[Q] Get rid of the Infinity? - Asus Transformer TF700

I am awaiting the arrival of a brand new ASUS Transformer TF700.I have read almost 90% of the issues, pros and cons with this tablet. This has thrown me for a loop and as an IT student I don't think one should have to be on a constant lookout for such an expensive item.Fortunately for me the tablet comes with a 14day return for money .I am not even going to open it,I am thinking of replacing it with the NEXUS 10. I am really afraid of taking a chance with such a tablet that can go defective at any time. There is no telling just how good the NEXUS 10 is,but from initial reports its better than gambling on the Infinity. What are your views on this ? Is the Infinity worth the stress ?

If you don't want the Infinity than get the Nexus. They are two different products for different purposes and use cases.

It is all a matter of personal preference.
I owned the Infinity for 3 months before selling it. During that time, I exchanged it twice thinking I kept getting a defective tablet, because each one was slow, sluggish and had the occasional screen flicker. Not to mention the bad I/O. Another thing that bothered me is, most of the apps I used, and games I played, even YouTube, looked really washed out. I kept it until the JB update to see if it would make the tablet any better, but it didn't(to me anyway it felt more sluggish after). From day one of owning the tablet, I tried pretty hard to convince myself that I like the tablet, but after a while I gave up, and decided to sell it.
I bought the Nexus 10 when it launched, and from the moment I got it, I loved it. It's smooth, it's fast, the screen is awesome, and it feels real comfortable to hold. The front facing stereo speakers are also pretty cool, they sound great, and they can get pretty loud. All the apps that I used on the Infinity look way better on the Nexus 10.
This is just my personal opinion and preference though. It all depends on what you are going to use it for, and what you prefer.

I have owned the tf700 for about a month.
This is a fact. The read/write speed to the internal flash is really slow. To overcome this problem you will need to unlock and install a custom ROM/APKs. This will void your warranty.
It's not that the tf700 is unusable with slow flash IO, instead it makes the user experience so very aggravating.

I am going to get the ASUS TF700T for the holidays. In 8 days to be more precise. I can't wait. I am a big techie and want flash some custom stuff to it.

Also waiting for Nexus 10 to come to my country and most probably its bye bye to my infinity then.
User experience just isnt what it should be. I also have ipad and even if I hate itunes and iOS I must say that the performance is so much better. And I am talking about the very first ipad.
You could think that there is something very badly wrong with Android but I also own Samsung Note 2 and there the performance is perfect. Also what i have tried some Samsung tablets they are smooth also. I just dont want lo-res screen on tablet so will try Nexus 10

The nexus 10 has pretty much the same issues. But everyone's so busy drooling over it they forget to read the Nexus 10 forum and see that there's hardly any improvement.

I just got a nexus 10 and a week old tf700 and the user experience on the n10 is far better than the tf700. Everything just works and hardly any lag. I'm not sure how an unlocked tf700 compares though. Where the n10 fails for me is the lower contrast level of the n10. Black arent as black either. And the lack of kb with extended battery. I'm not sure which to keep.

Thanks ..I like the expandability of the Asus Infinity, and as you rightly said its preference.I will have to do without the Infinity, and hope the Nexus 10 can deliver over the future problems it just might have. After all the Nexus10 has flaws as well

Thanks

I wish you good luck with it,just find its too expensive for me to risk bricking it.I' ll let you know my experience with the Nexus 10

I appreciate that so much as I 'm going to get the NEXUS 10 16gig as its all I can afford.Just worried about the lack of expandability, and no card slot.Guess I'll make do with it somehow.I love games movies and music...16gigs is nothing close to that enjoyment.

I thought it was just me that thought the tf700 was not all it's advertised to be. Whatever browser I use seems slower than it should be and seems to force close too often. The biggest irritation is that I can't keep the email working. I have MS Outlook on my PC and used that to put email on my Razr Maxx and rooted Nook tablet and they work fine. On tf700 it either doesnt work at all or works a day or 2 then all emails disappear. Sometimes it will load a few msg then as soon as I read one all the rest disappear. I have uninsalled, reinstalled several times and even tried to install it using K-9 mail. Nothing works. Is mine a lemon or an I just doing something dumb? I just know enough to be dangerous!

I assumed you unlocked yours? I haven't seen any complaint yet with an unlocked 700 so it must be the best solution for the lag.

Honestly I don't know why I bother to respond to a thread like this, but the TF700 Infinity is the best tablet available, bar none, once you have unlocked and flashed a custom ROM/kernel. The best one for performance, smoothness, speed and stability is without doubt CleanROM Inheritance v2.7 with Clemsyn's oc kernel (gpu oc to 700). With a few additional tweaks available during ROM installation, nothing out now comes close to the Infinity. It's worth jettisoning ASUS warranty to unlock the goodness.

Any info helps man and thank you. I'm stuck between my n10 and tf700 right now so I'm really concerned that unlocking wont make it on par with the N10. Dull screen and no kb dock is the only thing steering me away from the n10 but performance is awesome. But I might have a hard time reselling an unlocked tf700 or I'll probably have to take a major los$. Christmas time rolling around so I have to support my hobby and xmas $hopping the best I can =)

An unlocked infinity is by far the best thing you can find. The community has offered a lot to this machine that Asus just couldn't. Laggy Internet are you kidding..? With browser2ram outperforms my pc. 870 on browsermark bench. Yes the io issue is there its poor hardware but we have come a long way since stock now you can't even notice it. This think now flyes. Plus dock plus amazing screen that you can actually see outdoors. N10 or ipad come out in the sun and play.. No way..

TF201 vs TF700, benefits of the switch?

I just caught wind of the generosity from Bestbuy in allowing users to return the TF201's under manufacturer defect. So I am contemplating my move.
is the TF700 the way to go? Or is there a better option at the same price point? I definitely dont want iOS so ill be sticking with Android, just not sure which device to push for in exchange, assuming they allow me to switch.
I see some people talking about the Note 10.1, how does that compare to these TF's?
Thanks for helping me
PS if it makes any difference, I would like to eventually Root and play with ROM's
Definitely worth the switch. I had to go to two Best Buys to make it happen (kinda my own fault), but I'm definitely happy that I did. Runs better, feels better. Go for it.

The default clock speed is 1.6Ghz on the Infinity in Performance mode. I will agree that GPS is better, and obviously better screen resolution. However I notice quite a bit of stutter/lag while navigating through menus and switching apps. Hoping Jelly Bean or another OTA update will help.

There is currently a rom (Zeus v3.0) that greatly improves the TF700's performance. You don't have to suffer.

totally agree with you. glad I went from my TF201 to my TF700T. Not looking back.
+1 for the comment about Screen,GPS, WiFi and Speed. I did mine and have been very happy. As for the stutter and lag, I don't do a lot of gaming on mine, but I have not seen any of those problems.
As for the need to use a custom ROM, with my TF201 I finally put AndroWook on it and said "Oh, this is how this is supposed to perform," I have been running the Stock ROM, rooted with the basic Performance Tweaks (frozen apps in TiBu and some build.prop edits) and do not always feel like I am still handicapped.
Fantastic feedback, thank you everyone

Uhh. The WiFi and GPS also work. Some people might find one or both of those useful. LOL.
I was one of the few who were actually happy with my Prime. The wifi worked fine and the GPS didn't bother me since I never used it. The only reason I sold it and got the Infinity was because I could not re-unlock my Prime after RMAing for a broken HDMI port. For me, the only thing better on the Infinity is the screen, and although it is a really nice feature it is not worth it for that alone in my opinion. Overall, my experience with the Infinity has been the same as with the Prime (minus the development, which I hope will pick up soon).
If you are happy with your Prime I would stick with it. If you fancy a change or feel like spending some $$ then the Infinity is a good choice. Like the Prime it is a solid tablet that offers a really nice user experience.
Edit: I forgot to mention the 'speed' issue. In every day use the Infinity and Prime are equally as speedy as one another in my opinion. I would say that the Infinity's superior processing power is sucked up by keeping all of those extra pixels going...

Actually, my last post was just a little sarcastic, I had a similar experience with the Prime (liked it, did not call for ASUS' head, etc). The Prime is a pretty awesome tablet and the Infinity is really just an evolutionary upgrade, when you can secure working unit with decent WiFi the Prime is still pretty cutting edge. And some of the custom ROMs make the 201 very sweet, indeed.
But that said, my GPS was DOA and the WiFi was merely "acceptable" (but not near the Infinity which I would class as being actually good).
Since like me, the OP is basically looking @ a $0 upgrade via a return, in my experience, the "upgrade" was well worth the five minutes of effort and had no real downside ESPECIALLY if you like the Prime, IMHO!

Made the switch today, came home and rooted+unlocked. Now im seeing all these issues and hoping my tablet is good! LOL
One change i noticed was the MicroSD card no longer protrudes from the device!!! Everyone who picked up my device immediately would push on my memory chip thinking it was a power button.
On the TF700 it is perfectly flush with the device, sweet!!
Bad news for me, i rooted specifically to run GameCIH to manipulate games. Now im rooted and see GameCIH is not even supported by this tablet. Fan-fvckin-tastic! LOL
otherwise very happy so far.
I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I kept the tf201. It was a dud from day 1 and Asus knew it.

Amazon Refunded My Prime
I just spoke with Amazon this morning and they've agreed (without any hassle) to refund the money I paid for my TFP. I bought it in December 2011 and received it in late January. I worked pretty well but lately I was having a lot of issues with dropped wi-fi connections.
Anyway, I've decided to pick up the TF700T and use my Prime keyboard with it. My question is: Can you use the GPS dongle that Asus sent the Prime users on the TF700T. If so, is there any difference in the GPS sensitivity?
Thanks,

I can't try any tablets out, cause they din't release in India still now, nexus 7 might come out next month,,,but might be overpriced here :/
Actually i'm asking my uncle whose in USA to get this for me, and only Asus tablets have international warranty
If nexus 7 comes out with 32 gigs ill get that then.
The newest tablets I can compare for you is this and the GNote 10.1
GNote 10.1 runs faster and the s-pen is great
TF700 is a bit laggier but amazing res and yes, a lot of apps aren't that great for 1080p
But we know apps will be

Lets ignore the higher than average build quality issues, since you can just pick a place that will let you return many times until you get one without visual hardware flaws. (make sure you do that.. pick a place with a good return policy)
I am seriously disappointed in this tablet. (it's my second one) It's really slow and really choppy. I would NOT spend my own money on this device. But that's your decision to make. I shouldn't have to unlock and void my warranty to make my tablet work at an "almost" acceptable level. Running Cleanrom 1.0 makes the tablet way better, but still nowhere near the level an expensive device should be at. I'll try Cleanrom 2.1 tonight.
When I say really slow and choppy, this isn't even with games or items that really tax the resources. This is while using things like Pulse reader.. or pretty much anything that has to scroll or requires multiple touch actions in a row. like open email, scroll to bottom to check something, and press delete all in pretty quick succession. You have to pretty much pause between each screen touch so the tablet can keep up or you get "Application Not Responding". This is likely related to the poor I/O. (my 2 year old phone, and 2 year old ACER dont have this issue)
I helped out a previous employer and was given this tablet as a gift.. I keep it because depending on how you look at it, it wasn't really my hard earned cash that paid for it. I'm sure there are many people out there who love their tablet... But compared to my much older and much lower spec Acer A500 this thing sucks. If you dont NEED the keyboard.. try the Acer A700 instead.
The screen on the TF700 is very nice (the serious light bleed is only really noticeable at start-up). I have had no issues with blurriness or general ugliness. Obviously with the high resolution things must scale and any applications built with low quality graphics will be fuzzy when scaled. This is not an issue with the tablet, but rather with the App developer. Any high res screen will have the same issues until all app devs convert to higher quality graphics.
After dealing with my friends terrible TF201 (prime) and now this TF700 (2 of them).. Which proves ASUS is either not capable of fixing the performance issues, or simply doesn't care. Either way it will take a lot for me to throw any cash toward ASUS in the future.
Moved to the correct board.
In the future, for faster service, and be sure to use the report thread button, and to alert one of us...
Okay, but so so many people say tf700 is really good, Wont JB make it better?
or am i better of getting nexus 7 32 gig + OTG to add my external HDD.
I would love to get the note 10.1, but sadly it doesnt have a international warranty.. and i makes no sense getting it from India as its around 40,000rs(800$)
So,i'll be getting either T700 or Nexus 7 or yea ipad mini(though am not intrested in apples products).
Honestly, i don't know why so many people say bad things about this tablet. No device is perfect, they all have their flaws... you just have to choose which ones are most important to you. Since I've gotten this tablet I've experienced nothing but good things... apps and games are fine and will only get better. Speed is fine with the browser2ram apk installed... and the look and feel of this thing is just amazing. Don't let all the negative comments here mislead you. I was worried when I bought this tablet then came here to read only negative things, but after taking the leap of faith I have no regrets.

No don't get it.
Why?
Because if you can't get rid of it easily after being disappointed then there you are.
Stuck with it...
...unless your not too worried about having a problematic tablet.
Well. i agree with all your point's.
Acer and 2-3 more compaines are coming out with 1080p tabs + htc butterfly which is a 1080p phablet.
So, i assume all these "might" lead to a quality full HD app's?
And does the nexus 7 support OTG
Great now i find out it has dead pixel issues :/
I think it's a good investment. I love the **** out of my Inifnity. Yes, there are some QC issues like light bleed (very little in my case) and screen adhesive issues (again, very little for me) but I still think the price is justified. This is why stores have return policies. The best thing a consumer can do in this case, is to give the company as much feedback as possible. The majority of consumers don't realize how much influence they really have. Even the iPad has issues like these. Granted, Apple customer support is probably a lot more responsive. I still think people should not go into the tablet market, being so young as it is, and expect perfection.

I wouldn't recommend this tablet. I have had it since it launched and I waited too long to return it.I waited for JB to be released on it. It ran ok with ICS but now that it has JB its pretty sluggish and choppy compared to other tablets in the Transformer line that run JB(which was a huge letdown considering the hardware in this thing). And as of now, there nothing optimized for its 1080p screen. This tablet is just a little too far ahead of its time. If i could make any recommendation, I would say wait until the Nexus 10 is released.
Yea nexus 10 will be too late(and probably when it comes out i wont be able to get it, cause next year my uncle might not come down to india).. now i'm looking into nexus 7,ipad mini and ipad 3 :/

Well, to be honest, my 700 is flying since CleanROM 2.2+ -- it's a difference of night and day, absolutely incomparable. I'm wondering what's wrong with your unit -- or your expectations, or perception -- that you are so unhappy with it.
Out of the box: performance that did not exactly overwhelm me.
Now: happy. Just happy.
I think one of the best indicators of this machine just doing what it should is the fact that I'm slowly dropping in activity in here. It's not that I've lost interest, but I am busier doing stuff with it than looking anxiously for fixes for this and that (mostly I/O).
I've finally arrived at reading that large pile of pdf magazines, for example - I hardly ever game, and certainly not hardcore; that's what my desktop is for -- Borderlands 2 ftw! )

Having to give up your warranty (especially when that also means Asus saying "**** you" even for hardware/manufacturing faults) for acceptable performance is not okay in my book.
@MartyHulskemper I don't play a lot on my mobile devices I have a PS3 at home but I really wanted to try that game just to see it doesn't goes ok.. but well after wasting 580 mb download on Tablet now 580 more on my SIII and there it runs just amazing
I think seriosuly we can't play anything on the Infinity it only can run Angry Birds and Temple Run lol! and I thought that the 12core gpu could handle that res but nope
Relativaly my tablet it's fast with CM10 just some slow animations that when using other tablets that animation are all smooth I'm talking about all animations of the system.
Is CleanRom some safe app from ASUS to use?
I was just reading the Transformer Prime board and found a thread where many are celebrating the discovery of factory resetting their TFP updated to JB and experiencing must faster performance from tablet, have eliminated the ANR message, and some are seeing a boot in I/O from Jellybean and are stating that the increased performance stayed the same as they loaded apps back on their device.
Two questions:
Why is there no thread on the Infinity board like that?
Is this what CleanRom is about and safe to?

Somewhat agreed. The "somewhat" is necessary because your use of the term "acceptable performance", which is something specific to every individual user and as such cannot be applied generally. I take it performance was not up to your standards OOTB; as I said, neither was it to up to mine. Insofar, we agree.

Where did you get that 12-core GPU from? I want it too! It's a 4-core with a 5th low-performance helper core. Please get your info straight before making statements.
CleanROM is VERY smooth, animations and all, but yes, you'd have to unlock first.

CleanROM is an optimized ROM (so specific to the TF700 and as such it cannot be used on the Prime, sorry). Also, the forum is filled to the brim with reports of factory-resetting being good for overall performance and of JB goodness posts. Guess you just have to look better.
But again, CleanROM = no go for Prime!

This pretty much sums up my current attitude for all the QQ -- as I said before, we've had loads of issues in the beginning (I had the device three weeks before retail) and we were vocal about it. It has now come to a point where I am slowly, but surely, losing my patience with all the people who: cross-post, double-post, thread necrophiliacs, ask questions that have been answered at least twenty times in at least five threads. This doesn't target this thread -- this is a mere opinion to which the OP is entitled as much as we all are -- but a lot of people are aiming for hand-holding in here. Use PMs for that.

I know you dont think flashing the OC kernal helps either but hell if you are already unlocked and on CleanRom then I would definitely try it. It makes a difference plus it gives the GPU a boost I think ( dont quote me on that one.)
Stock OFW made me want to pull my hair out. I had the TF300 before and it ran way more stable than the Infinity did at release.
However, with cleanrom 2.3 and Data2SD Enhanced, this has become the tablet I've always wanted. It sucks that it took so much work to get it to speed, but that's the price you pay sometimes to be ahead of the curve. I knew with all of the Infinity's connectivity and immediately unlocked bootloader, the xda developers would fix most issues and they did.

First, I registered here when I had my Galaxy S. A phone that I could mod without losing my warranty (unless you hardbricked it, which was possible, but took some effort). Asus should at the very least also give access to nvflash if people are to lose their warranty. Then hard-bricking the device will be pretty much impossible at least. It's still a ****ty move to ignore manufacturing faults just because someone chose to unlock, though.
Second, SquareTrade isn't available outside of the US (and UK it seems from their website?). Not everyone who's on here lives in the US. There are alternative warranties when buying from certain stores here in Norway as well, but that means actually buying from those stores. Not an option for me, for various reasons.
I was really quite disappointed in the Infinity initially also.
Not angry enough to spew discord all over the tablet world, yet not really happy.
I was hoping firmware and Jelly Bust and project butter would make the dream come true...NOPE!
Tell ya what though after muddling thru flashing the tweaks mentioned earlier in this thread I'm one happy user.
These "I'm bummed" threads seem pretty popular here on XDA.
Same complaints...same responses...
I was on the verge of selling mines too. But after being convinced to root it, i took the plunge and installed Cleanrom. After that, i was very satisfied. Then a few days ago, i installed Clemsyns Kernel, and i am even more impressed. No reboot, no force closes, no lag. This thing flies now. It works like it should have worked out the box. Its a shame ASUS couldnt get it right and we have to do all this just to get it stable. But i am happy with the tweaks.

Stock vs custom rom

Hey,
I have transformer only few days and im really surprised hows the stock rom unoptimized when its the most powerful tegra 3. My question is if custom roms are really better with higher performance, because i dont want to lose warranty for nothing.

Hi there. I just unlock my tablet yesterday. Install clean rom and very suprised with browser speed and tablet itself. Amazing stuff.
I have played with a lot of tablets and when you have to root/unlock it to make it better your wasting your money. What I have found is stock rom or custom rom made no difference to the problems Asus 700t have been having. Its not allot but its more the most.
Makes me wonder if these guys can make a custom rom making the 700t better and faster why in the world would Asus not do the same and let people root it. You know the thing would sell even more.. lol what do I know.
I havent decided to root yet, because maybe im going to buy ipad 4 or nexus 10 instead, but they dont have as good keyboard as infinity. If there is someone with rooted phone, can make a short clip from the rooted ui and upload it to yt? The only thing i dont like on the infinity is performance and possibly low battery life but its synonyme for android hd device.

Low battery life? No single device will last as long as the 700 with a dock, dear friend. It even outlasts the iDevice series in whatever iteration you wish. So that's the poorest reason you an put up for buying into something else. The performance with a custom ROM (in my case CROMI) is pretty good, and although some other device may have its own perks (like a tad more 'snappiness' out of the box), you won;t get the full package deal the 700 offers with any of them (connectivity, external storage battery-carrying (!) keyboard dock, FullHD screen with high screen brightness, etc.)...

I mean the speed and optimalization of custom ROM. I really first want to see how big improvement is to upgrade it to custom ROM, because I dont want to lose warranty for nearly any improvement.
EDIT: Im really thinking about the iPad 4, only it can offer me high battery life and smooth system, I dont want to have android tablet anymore. I spent about 800 dollars for tablet with unique and beautiful design, but with laggy and ****ty system and with low battery life. What to say...
EDIT2: I tried to factory-reset it and now it works without lags and apps crashes, ill see later if i still want to buy iPad.

Just wanted to share my experience - some time ago I got ipad 3, exchanged it to tf700 and then exchanged it to tf600 and now I have some thoughts that might help you deciding what tablet is right for you.
If you don't want to root your tf700(I didn't root it because it stops official updates and voids the guarantee, and from the start I knew that I'll probably sell or exchange it anyway), then you won't get normal performance from it, I tried resetting it, disabling stock apps, etc, and interface finally stopped lagging, but to really make experience smooth, you'll need to unlock it. About battery life - in my experience, it isn't much greater then ipad's, but it definitely lasts longer, that's a fact. Surfing the net is more enjoyable on ipad because of its 4:3 screen, but maybe it's just me. Video playback on infinity's screen is outstanding, though, and I am not even sure, on which tablet I liked to watch movies more, on ipad or tf700. The keyboard is also not the greatest - tf600's stock dock is better, at least you can press backspace anywhere and it registers - I had a problem with it on tf700. Build quality of tf700 is great, tf600 feels worse after it, but ipad's build quality is better then tf700's.
So I guess, you should make a decision - which OS suits you best, because all three are great devices, and you definitely shouldn't make your decision based on stock tf700 firmware - it is very bad and it's a fact.

Why Asus wouldn't put the cleanest, fastest ROM on their device is a very good question.
And the answer probably has a lot to do with marketing, time-to-market cycles and other things we don't know much about.
But your statement that custom roms don't make a difference is booooogus! Try CleanROM Inheritance and you never look back! And scr... the warranty!

Let's not measure power by raw specifications - it works only in android world. Maybe, if he tried nexus 10 instead of tf700, he would have different opinion on android, but the fact that top android tablet on android sucks in out-of-the-box condition is kind of sad.

So torn on what tablet to keep... N7 vs Infinity

So I've had my Infinity + Dock for almost 10 months now. While performance is good we can all relate to the I/O issues and laggyness of the device.
So recently decided to grab the Nexus 7 to give it a whirl. Really want to try the new one, but could be a few months away and so want to try something else affordable. So with that now, I've had my Nexus for just over a week now. It really is a solid piece of equipment then comes to really the differences.
I'm sure this has been beaten to death but...
Infinity +'s
Large Screen
1920x1200 (so nice)
mini HDMI out (it is a nice feature)
microSD Card Slot
Dock with more battery/SD Card slot
Very quick recharge of both tablet and dock.
Infinity's -'s
Weight (quiet heavy with the dock)
I/O issues (Yes I understand you can help it some what by using Data2SD... though still its an issue)
Size in hand (large tablets really aren't that user friendly in the hands)
Nexus 7 +'s
Small
Lightweight
Same Tegra 3 chip as Infinity
Google Product (little more support for the device)
Nexus 7 -'s
Less Battery
No SD Card Slot
Slower Recharge time
Might have more plus's for the Infinity, but just weighing at least my needs the Nexus 7 almost seems better. At this point im sad to say I might sell my Infinity off. I like the device but ever since I've gotten my Nexus 7 I haven't really touched the tablet except for showing a movie on my TV (first time actually). And now in comparison to my Nexus 7, and seeing how badly my Infinity lags with commands its amazing why I never noticed it this much before.
Might try a few more things here before making a true decision of what to keep and what to get rid of.
What ever happens in the future I hope Asus's next product fix the dang I/O issues and get some good speed to internal memory.
Has anyone else also been in my shoes?
I think you probably already know your answer to which tablet you want but looking for validation on it. Given you have found the 7'' to fit better in your hands and perform better for you, why keep the Infinity? You can buy a bt keyboard and external battery pack to give 1 or 2 extra charges if your out an about. You do lose the micro-SD slot but there are ways around storage limitations (cloud storage, usb card readers, wifi enabled external drives). If the tablet is not meeting your needs or expectations then move on. Sticking with it will leave the nagging lag issue in your mind and probably looking for it during use.
Since your manufacture warranty is almost up then you could try unlocking it for better performance.
Yeah I know. Just feel bad that a $250 tablet is crushing a $500 in performance using the same hardware and made by the same manufacture.

The n7 has a different version of the tegra 3, the cheaper version. The infinity has a new version and can go to 1.7Ghz.
But more Ghz don't mean more smoothness. Also the infinity has more pixels so it needs more power.
If I was you, I would keep the infinity if you don't go out often and the n7 if you do.

I actually debated what you are going through a few weeks ago and decided to sell my Infinity and Dock on eBay and keep my Nexus 7. I went out and bought a Logitech k810 (the typing experience is amazing and highly recommended) to replace my typing needs. I'll keep the Nexus 7 and wait until the next round of next generation 10 inch tablets are out, as nothing is really doing it for me at the moment, but liking the benchmark results that are coming out of the Tegra 4 and Snapdragon 800. Hopefully those live up to the benchmarks that we are seeing. I wouldn't mind going back with ASUS, but they seriously have to fix the I/O issues

That is ALL that IS really wrong with the infinity is the i/o. ASUS is stupid for not putting a better internal storage in this device. Actually, the N7 has newer parts than the Infinity, but newer does not always mean better. The only reason the N7 is so much smoother is the i/o, and ASUS is quite dumb for not putting a better internal storage in the Infinity. I am hoping for a new infinity, and if the i/o is not fixed, then I wont be going with it.

Yeah the I/O just became too frustrating to deal with, even with CROMI. Having come from the Prime, I was hoping that issue would have been fixed. There are a ton of things that ASUS did right but the /O issue is just too difficult to overcome and the Nexus 7 runs circles around it because of it. I'm hoping Computex brings us some new hardware, especially a new high end Transformer.

I love the ATI so much better. My 32gb GN7 was running low on storage. Now, I have 96gb in my ATI. It's great that I can add another 64gb SD in the future with the dock.

Yeah the limited storage stinks but did the kickstarter that has a micro SD/mini USB connection in one (really small) so expandability isn't an issue for me. Though I do support the 32GB + 64GB + 32GB cards on my ATI. It's nice to have the space that is for sure.

Maybe i need glasses. But the N7 is so smooth. SOD is quite annoying. Even with cleanrom installed, my N7 is still more productive

I dont understand how with CromiX everyone is getting SOD. I havent gotten in SoD in months. Have you tried doing a fresh install timrock? Wiping everything including internal storage? and again installing CromiX?

plenty of times. i just spent a whole weekend clean installing it because of kernel issue. Just got an SOD about a half hour ago.
Well thankfully I have never gotten a SOD on the device. Actually first time I've heard of the term.
Now had anyone else gotten the issue where say you try to turn on the screen and it doesn't go on or delays so long it times out on you just to repeat it? I've been getting that a lot more lately.

My Nexus 7 feels much smoother than my TF700.
That being said, i've tried 2 different types of keyboards on the N7, bluetooth an wired (usb otg) and I keep coming back to the transformer.
The dock makes this device!
Since installing CromiX, i've found it a much better device.
I've now just removed a bunch of apps from startup and it is buzzing!
I can only tell from my own experience that:
1) IF you have a TF700 with perfect build quality
and 2) IF you are prepared to unlock
You will NOT be disappointed in this device.
However, it's also a question of how much you are willing to spend on a device. This one's nearly a year old
Maybe you could have a look at the Nexus 10, if that's available in your country?

i believe that the SOD (sleep of death). Example, you are done using the tab and you just put it to sleep (not turn it off), you press the button to wake it, and it doesnt wake up. At least not right away. It either takes a while to wake, or you end up having to reset it. This is what happens to me on occasions.
