I just caught wind of the generosity from Bestbuy in allowing users to return the TF201's under manufacturer defect. So I am contemplating my move.
is the TF700 the way to go? Or is there a better option at the same price point? I definitely dont want iOS so ill be sticking with Android, just not sure which device to push for in exchange, assuming they allow me to switch.
I see some people talking about the Note 10.1, how does that compare to these TF's?

Definitely worth the switch. I had to go to two Best Buys to make it happen (kinda my own fault), but I'm definitely happy that I did. Runs better, feels better. Go for it.

Basically the screen and that's it. And that's enough too to make the switch. I did because I can't stand anything under 200 dpi.

The default clock speed is 1.6Ghz on the Infinity in Performance mode. I will agree that GPS is better, and obviously better screen resolution. However I notice quite a bit of stutter/lag while navigating through menus and switching apps. Hoping Jelly Bean or another OTA update will help.

There is currently a rom (Zeus v3.0) that greatly improves the TF700's performance. You don't have to suffer.

totally agree with you. glad I went from my TF201 to my TF700T. Not looking back.
+1 for the comment about Screen,GPS, WiFi and Speed. I did mine and have been very happy. As for the stutter and lag, I don't do a lot of gaming on mine, but I have not seen any of those problems.
As for the need to use a custom ROM, with my TF201 I finally put AndroWook on it and said "Oh, this is how this is supposed to perform," I have been running the Stock ROM, rooted with the basic Performance Tweaks (frozen apps in TiBu and some build.prop edits) and do not always feel like I am still handicapped.

Uhh. The WiFi and GPS also work. Some people might find one or both of those useful. LOL.
I was one of the few who were actually happy with my Prime. The wifi worked fine and the GPS didn't bother me since I never used it. The only reason I sold it and got the Infinity was because I could not re-unlock my Prime after RMAing for a broken HDMI port. For me, the only thing better on the Infinity is the screen, and although it is a really nice feature it is not worth it for that alone in my opinion. Overall, my experience with the Infinity has been the same as with the Prime (minus the development, which I hope will pick up soon).
If you are happy with your Prime I would stick with it. If you fancy a change or feel like spending some $$ then the Infinity is a good choice. Like the Prime it is a solid tablet that offers a really nice user experience.
Edit: I forgot to mention the 'speed' issue. In every day use the Infinity and Prime are equally as speedy as one another in my opinion. I would say that the Infinity's superior processing power is sucked up by keeping all of those extra pixels going...

Actually, my last post was just a little sarcastic, I had a similar experience with the Prime (liked it, did not call for ASUS' head, etc). The Prime is a pretty awesome tablet and the Infinity is really just an evolutionary upgrade, when you can secure working unit with decent WiFi the Prime is still pretty cutting edge. And some of the custom ROMs make the 201 very sweet, indeed.
But that said, my GPS was DOA and the WiFi was merely "acceptable" (but not near the Infinity which I would class as being actually good).
Since like me, the OP is basically looking @ a $0 upgrade via a return, in my experience, the "upgrade" was well worth the five minutes of effort and had no real downside ESPECIALLY if you like the Prime, IMHO!

Made the switch today, came home and rooted+unlocked. Now im seeing all these issues and hoping my tablet is good! LOL
One change i noticed was the MicroSD card no longer protrudes from the device!!! Everyone who picked up my device immediately would push on my memory chip thinking it was a power button.
On the TF700 it is perfectly flush with the device, sweet!!
Bad news for me, i rooted specifically to run GameCIH to manipulate games. Now im rooted and see GameCIH is not even supported by this tablet. Fan-fvckin-tastic! LOL
otherwise very happy so far.
I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I kept the tf201. It was a dud from day 1 and Asus knew it.

My Prime was actually great! Ran like a champ. Only reason for the switch was the FHD. A lot more people then you think had a satisfying experience with the Prime.

Amazon Refunded My Prime
I just spoke with Amazon this morning and they've agreed (without any hassle) to refund the money I paid for my TFP. I bought it in December 2011 and received it in late January. I worked pretty well but lately I was having a lot of issues with dropped wi-fi connections.
Anyway, I've decided to pick up the TF700T and use my Prime keyboard with it. My question is: Can you use the GPS dongle that Asus sent the Prime users on the TF700T. If so, is there any difference in the GPS sensitivity?

I dunno maybe... But the infinity's GPS is pretty good all by itself, picked up satellites pretty fast even indoors (first floor of a second story house with metal roof and 4 feet from the window.

i just wanted to vent a little cause the sluggishness is really getting to me. After the JB update this tablet got worse. i factory reset and nothing.. Im thinking of taking it back to bestbuy and trading it for a note 10.1 but then again i will miss my keyboard and usb port... but i kinda had it with this tablet 540$ plus 100$ keyboard and this runs worse than the galaxy tab 10.1 witch is 2 years old... i haven't unlocked yet but from what i have read it does not make a huge difference.
I don't understand how this 4uad core tegra 3 tablet gets beaten by a iPad 2 or iPad 1 and definitely iPad 3 witch has a higher resolution.. The only thing i fear is that BB wont exchange since is past the 30 days policy arrrggggg what to dooooo!!!!!!????

I agree with you, unfortunately. I understood how bad my tablet was when I played with my friend's iPad 2 the other day. iPad 2 was flying through the screens effortlessly with beautiful animations. My Transformer was on the other hand, despite being supposedly the best that Android can offer, like a 10 year old technology in comparison. Sad.
I am also in the same boat here as well. I really want to love this device however for the money it needs to perform better. Not to mention android apps for tablets are just not good enough yet. I have a few days left on my best buy return and have a bad feeling I will be coming home with an Ipad 3. Hoping a 10" nexus tablet will finally kick up the android tablet development to where it needs to be in the future.

Right now I'm on my wife's ipad 2 because my xda app force close on me on my infinity.... I love android and I keep trying to love my tablet but just using this ipad 2 makes think twice about not selling my infinity and getting the ipad 3. App wise I don't really care because I can actually find better apps on my tablet than I can on my wife's ipad although their rpg scene is crazy good. But the only think holding me back on getting and ipad is the storage because I'm the type of person that likes putting shows and movies on my tab. That's why I'm leaning more towards the note 10.1 since its smooth and has storage and keyboard (although not like the infinity) but the screen resolution lmao... I'm a picky bastard n I like the best technology that is out. For me the infinity would be great if it wasn't for the above problems... So I am kind of stuck in a loop and I don't know what to do.. Any suggestions?

If you're not happy with your Transformer return it and get an iPad.
That's what I might just do... Witch is sad cuz I hate apple but I wasted to much money to get sluggish performance.
My old phone ( SE X10i ) with android 2.3.3 is smother than my JB tf 700. Browsing and typing are perfect, no lag no crashing or random reset... Tomorrow i'll get it exchanged for the loose screen, hope i get a better one.
i made the exact same statements a few days ago. I was so close to selling mines. Then i got convinced to root. I saw a major improvement in everything. I have not had and lag, reboots, stutters, anything, since i rooted. As sad as it may seem, this may be the only way to get the device stable (for those that are having issues). I recommend rooting before you return it.
but i agree with the other poster, if you are not happy and think you will like the ipad better, just get it.
I'm in a love/ hate type of relationship with my tab. When it works, it's a really great experience, but when it doesn't ( which is most of the time), I'm ready to chuck it out of the window. The random reboots, constant sluggish performance, and the copy and pasting snafu's really make me dislike this tablet. What really irks me is that there isn't any reason why this tab should be showing these symptoms. From what I've read the nexus 7 and transformer prime aren't victims of these issues to this extent, and the infinity is better tech wise. Like i said before, when the infinity works, it works very well, but the performance is far from consistent. I'm hoping a CM10/custom Rom can iron out these issues, and I'll have an infinity that outperforms my GN running CM10.

With respect, you read wrong. It's not unlocking that makes the difference in performance, it's flashing a custom rom that has been formulated specifically to improve performance and eliminate lag. The best and most complete ROM currently available for Jellybean is the CleanROM v1.3. It really is a huge improvement.

You guys must be over exaggerating your experience, expecting to much, or you have a defective unit. Mine was smooth from the beginning and after rooting/unlocking and installing Clean Rom this thing flies. The only gripe I've had so far is browsing websites with lots of flash the browser tends to get a little sluggish.

I really like the Infinity but it's pisses me off to no end that they decided to cheap out on the internal memory and this is what you have to deal with. This thing is frustrating to use and chrome is about useless on this. I guess I'm going to have to unlock, which is NOT what I want to do and try out some different roms because this tab makes me want to punch my fist through it's beautiful screen.

So you used it for a few days presumably before flashing a DIFFERENT rom and it's working fine for you, that's great. I've been using mine since pretty much release and it was pretty quick at first too, or at least it seemed that way. I'm probably going to flash a custom rom and see an improvement as well but the fact remains that I shouldn't have to. If the iPad performed as badly as Asus tablets, it would be all over the media. I wouldn't buy an iPad, because I don't care much for Apple, but I know they wouldn't release a half baked product like the Infinity. It's a real shame that the Android OEMs can't bake a complete product, seems like there's an endless sea of garbage and I'd wager to say no real competition among Android tabs.

From what I read it is a improvement but not a huge one that I would be willing to give my warranty away for it. The Rom is in ver 2.0 already and is a clean experience, but it does not fix the issues I have on a daily basis. The thing that irks me the most is that this tablet has so much potential and it looks
awesome and then my friend comes over with and iPad 3 or I play with my Wifes iPad 2 and I feel like my infinity is two years old technology wise compare to them. I wish at least my browsing experience would be good (which is what I am suffering with the most lately). I tried the debug settings and also browser to ram before when I had root with ics, and it was good for a while but it began acting up again for no operant reason. I just hope we get a update from Asus with some more fixes, and funny thing is my build quality is superb, no lightBleed, screen lifting, nor did I have random reboots till recently when I updated to jb.
On another note, how can I downgrade without unlocking? So I can root again and use root keeper to get back to jb with root? I read those threads they have on how to root jb but no one has answer my question if I need to be unblocked.

That's not a solution, because iPad has no sdcard slot, needs to be jailbroken to work properly, dependant on iTunes etc. That's not the point. The point is, why can't a latest technology Android tablet run half as fluently as a 3 year old iPad?

Get a note 10.1 if you want to stay on Android. It's very fast and lag free at the cost of screen resolution.
This lag reminds me of my old Samsung Galaxy S that has a nand chip with slow write i/o, but good read i/o.
The lag was fixed by moving /data/data to the much faster but smaller onenand chip as it requires alot of write i/o. The rest of /data and /system was moved to the nand chip as it uses alot of read i/o, but very little write i/o (updating apps).
I wonder if a similar fix will work for the TF700?

The problem, imo, is too many people apologize for Androids performance woes. There's no reason a tablet with a quad core processor and so much memory should be outperformed by the ipad.
But the reason it is, is because of software. Even after all these years Android still hasn't caught up. They never will if ppl continue to apologize for them.
I can't just up and leave Android but i do wish it would improve. When i use my wife ipad 3, I'm amazed at its fluidity. Sucks that the infinity doesn't come close to that.

It's not a software issue, Asus specifically chose to cheap out on the internal nand memory. It's performance is dismal, at best. It's the reason why their tablets have lots of anr issues and laggy performance.
if you have used the infinty for any length of time you will not be able to use the note 10.1 the screen is poor - i bought the note and used it for 2 hours and returned it
i cant speak about the stock jb as i have never used it - i am unlocked / rooted and running paranoidandroid 2.2 with holo launcher hd and it is very fast no lag whatsoever - also just ran pimp my rom v2.0 to speed it up even more !!

This is exactly my point. Why should the fluidity on a 3 year old iPad surpass ours?... I really don't like the Apple ecosystem, I love downloading things from my tablet and being able to use it right away not having to go to iTunes for everything music n video related. There is some hardware issue but to be honest is mostly software. Android as whole has not been fully optimised for all the different kinds of devices that support it. From full HD screen to non HD, from 10.1 screen to 4.0. There is to many different devices and that might be one of the problems with Android. Google should be a little bit more strict when it comes too software specially from other manufactures like Asus. Things like this put a bad image on Android as a whole. But like some one said earlier even this thing works good is the best, but why should I be relying on it working good sometimes and sometimes not. For 544$ this should not be the case.

I don't know about that, lag and sluggishness has been an issue with Android devices since the beginning of time. When i first got jb on my nexus i really thought they had finally figured it out, but within a couple of months the lag has returned in full force.
If it was an asus thing, it wouldn't be like that for all the Android devices i known.
Like i said, im not leaving Android because i still love it, but I'm also not going to pretend everything is fine when it's not.
I'll try to keep it brief:
1. I'm a little annoyed that ASUS makes you sign off your warranty to unlock, everyone is annoyed by this I'm sure but you deal with it or you don't. The flip side of this coin is that a product like this shouldn't have to be sent in for warranty work if you don't brick it. I've never had to send in any handsets I've owned because of original equipment malfunctions. You can't guarantee that you'll get a perfect device if you buy it but I would think as long as you take care of it, it'll be fine, right?
2. Speed of the tablet. If you wanted to play it safe and keep the bootloader locked until the warranty expired, I've read that the tablet is sluggish. If I buy the tablet on Amazon I can unlock it, load a custom ROM on it, and decide within 30 days whether or not I want the warranty back. Is it worth giving up the warranty for the extra speed or is the sluggishness of the tablet overexaggerated? Can the tablet run Chrome well with the stock ASUS rom?

The biggest concern i had with this tablet is QA. I went through 5 tablets until i found one i was happy with and there are many others in the same boat. What you DONT hear is from the people who got one they were happy the first time, either because they dont exist or because they dont complain.
Asus has shown that they will update this thing regularly, we keep getting updates and even the original transformer is still getting updates. that shows that in a year from now i will likely have updates to whatever version of android is available. Other top end tablets (like samsung) as much as i hate to say it dont update as often or as quickly.
I'd say get yourself a tablet if its something you will use. Use the hell out of it for the return period and make sure everything is working. If its not, return it and get another one. And after your 14 days or 30 days or whatever your retailer is if you personally dont like how some aspects of the tablet can be slower than expected return it. For me, its not an issue. Everyone is different.
Quick answer as I'm at work...
I have a completely stock tablet and it is not sluggish at all - I find many of the issues mentioned here are exaggerated! I played around with a Note 10.1 in a store and found no difference in the speed but I did notice the quality of the screen was not as sharp as the Infinity. If you have a 15-30 day return policy why not order one and if it's not what you expect then return?

I am stock and unrooted and I like my infinity now (and I love the dock). I was a little disappinted at first (I bought it in july) because I find it too slow for the price it was, however this is my first tablet and I don't know how are other tablet. But now for my everyday use it is fine. I was really tempted to unlock and flash cleanrom but I don't want to loose my warranty. If I had known about square trade waranty at the time of purchase I would have got one, but it is too late now. My advice is the same as the previous, if you really want an infinity, buy it when you can easily return it after x days and return it if you are not satisfied. If you like it and want to unlock and keep a warranty, if you live in the US you can buy a square trade warranty and they enjoy your unlocked tablet.

Hey , it's a great tablet trust me ..it's light, fast , and you can do so much with it. Soon it will get even better because the nexus 10 is coming out with that ridiculous resolution so deva will start making apps that support high resolution tablets. This tablet is awesome you can buy 32gb one and not worry about space because it has expandable memory.

dont buy this tablet, you will regret it. It is sluggish. Very sluggish. It is so annoying that I am returning it monday. This is by far the worst Android device I have ever bought.
And btw, I also have the TF300 + dock and I love it.
Just do like anyone with a brain and order a Nexus 10 tuesday.

Oh we exist. We just have better things to do than post in every single bloody thread where people complain. I've got about 30 post saying mine's fine from the second i bought it, weeks before the release, without unlocking.
People only speak up when they have something tocomplain about. there were thousands of sales for this tablet. Tell me, did you see all of them post here with cmplaints?

Sorry your experience has been so negative. I've had and currently have a number of Android devices and I love the TF700 Infinity, especially unlocked, CleanROMmed, and Clemsyn Kerneled!
I got one of the Square Trade warranties and it was very affordable for two years with accidental damage coverage. I have peace of mind that if I every screw-up so badly that it's bricked, I'll have my coverage without worrying about ASUS. Oh, and by the way, my unit and dock have both been perfect from day one...beginning of August.

Dang! For a development forum there's a lot of people who aren't interested in modding, even if it's proved to increase performance exponentially.
It's your device and you can live your life as you please, but the OP has a point...that the complainers (justified or not) seem to be louder and more insistant than the fun-loving, happy go lucky crackflashers like me! I hate the fact that people who would really fall in love with this tab (especially with its keyboard dock, expandability, long battery life, etc...) may not even try it out.

For folks wanting to dive into the Android tablet quagmire who might expect things to be pristine right of the box...stay away!
For gadget gurus, tweak monsters, modification masters, code writers, app developers, people who trust Asus or guys that want a device to learn on...go ahead!
For me my experience with this device has been everywhere from "Wowee cool" to "Awww...This piece of poopoo" and back to "Mmmm Yeah Baby I love you now"
Boils down to patience along with perseverance.
I'm a firm believer that Android is heaven for those who enjoy adjusting rather than using.
It's kind of like a hotrod shiny on the surface...always needing more under the hood.
I'm very satisfied with my tf700. Sluggish? Nope. Well, I'm on cm10 and development on this Rom by the cm10 has been very excellent.
I don't think there is enough of the satisfied folks who express their happiness. I'm one of them so I felt the need to break that. Excellent product asus.

This ^^. Tinkering is half the fun. No, almost all of it.
I'm stock also, but rooted. I've never had any issues with my TF700T. It runs great. No FC and fast.

I, too, didn't have any problem with my first tablet. I absolutely LOVE it now after installing CleanROM & Data2SD. I even bought mine on Ebay and got it for a great price.
I've enjoyed my tablet very much. Never noticed any sluggishness. I've also been very happy with the update frequency from Asus. No complaints here
I recommend picking up SwiftKey tablet edition from the play store. Makes landscape typing really easy.

We are all interested in modding. The point is, no amount of modding makes a difference.
Try this. Get yourself a three year old iPad 1. Put it near your transformer with CleanRom or CM10 or whatever. Start an app on both devices and see which one has smoother animations. Then open a slightly big webpage. Scroll around and pinch to zoom in and out a few times and tell me which one is smoother.
This tablet is running on hardware that is not suited to the resolution that it's running and it has very very slow flash storage which makes almost all operations sluggish. No amount of software modding makes a difference with hardware flaws. They can improve benchmarks, but not the user experience.

I have a contrary opinion: software tweaks have failed to improve benchmarks significantly across the board, but they did improve my user experience significantly.
I'm looking to get an ASUS tablet but with all the different models I'm looking for input from you guys that are rooted and running custom roms.
I'm a cellphone guy and this will be my first tablet. I'm not looking to get some pile that I'm going to be pissed off about because I can't do this or that.
I don't really have a "need" since I'm just looking for something to hack on...(root, roms, customization, web browsing..running benchmarks because I like looking at the speed, OC'ing... ya know the normal nerd shiz.
The "tinkering" is what I like, probably the same as alot of you guys, just trying new things on it and that stuff...just like my S3.
I'm looking at the tf700t right now for $300 used. I can't really find the difference with the "t" specification on the end..?
Which model should i be interested in if this isn't the "one?"
Am I going to be happy with this, being able to root and flash roms?
Is this the one with the plastic piece/bezel on the top so the GPS actually works decent?

The first one is not the same as the second, the first one was the model before called the transformer prime, that one was removed from stores within about 6 months. I advise you to stay away from that one. The one on the bottom is the transformer infinity the one that is the better one. I have mine rooted and unlocked with cleanrom 2.4 and clemsyns 1.9 kernal. Boy can I say that its a sweet device now, stock it was okay but now its amazing. I would totally get it with the price of 350$.
This tablet has some advantages over the nexus 10 too.
Transformer Infinity's (TF700T) Advantages:
It has a micro SD card slot.
It has a dock that you can always connect to for extra battery life along with more ports.
Development is stronger AT THE MOMENT for this tablet.
For 350$ you can get 32 gigs of storage.
Nexus 10s advantages:
Better processor inside.
Better screen resolution.
Better support from manufacturer.
Disadvantages:
No micro SD card slot.
No docking station that adds battery life.
400$ only gets you 16 gbs of memory.
Not a lot known about this tablet yet to judge how great it really is or can be.

That is not the infinity. That is the prime (tf201). And yes you will be happy if you get the infinity

How does the n10 have better support? Asus is considered to be the best. Even if the n10 is a nexus, it's made by Samsung, considered to be the worst...

The infinity has USB OTG right? I'm assuming it does.
The processor difference between the N10 isn't that great and I don't really do anything that requires that much power..besides wow'ing myself with benchmarks, so i think it will be fine.
I'm not too worried about the updates since I won't be stock ever. I'm sure we'll be at 4.2 within no time if isn't already.

The resolution on the infinity still wows me though, its a nice looking tablet regardless. Sadly the infinity doesnt have USB on it however there is an adapter that plugs into your charger port to give you that support.
I have to agree that the dock is sweet but pricey, I personally dont own one yet and am patiently waiting for a Ubutu port before I make any further purchases.
Yeah the benchmarks on this thing are crazy if you do some tweaking, I will attach a pic with my benchmark on this post. It is pretty good.
Just make sure that it is indeed the infinity as the post says the transformer prime which is different then the transformer infinity. If the guy has the box the box should say infinity. Good luck man!
EDIT:Yes that is referring to is color not a stupid question either lol.

Except it's still Samsung.... updates still have to go through the original OEM... So if the oem sucks, so will update. Look at the galaxy nexus as an example...

No, it’s a Nexus device the software will be updated by Google. The OEM means nothing.

So far so good. I really haven't played with it, been busy with some other stuff but i'm glad i got it over the n7 or n10 even.
Once I root/rom i'll let you know, stock isn't what i like on anything.

Congrats on the Infinity purchase!! You'll love it! Better choice than the N10 in my opinion. I had the Prime, then bought the Infinity when it was released and my girlfriend got the Prime. The only thing about the N10 that excites me is that GameLoft and EA said they are going to support it with their games. So that means the Infinity will get support too with its high res display!! Bonus!!!

Thats good that your liking it man, once you root it and get that custom rom on it you will be amazed believe me. I only have one complaint about the tablet and its the my left side of my screen creeks but other then that I dont have any of the other problems people are complaining about.

As an Infinity owner I would have gone to Nexus 10. It is so much better device than this.
Just saw a video where some guy had opened 6 3D games and was multitasking and playing fluently those games. You just can't do that with this tablet. This will die under 2 games already.
I am awaiting the arrival of a brand new ASUS Transformer TF700.I have read almost 90% of the issues,pros and cons with this tablet.This has thrown me for a loop and as an IT student I don't think one should have to be on a constant lookout for such an expensive item.Fortunately for me the tablet comes with a 14day return for money .I am not even going to open it,I am thinking of replacing it with the NEXUS 10. I am really afraid of taking a chance with such a tablet that can go defective at any time.There is no telling just how good the NEXUS 10 is,but from initial reports its better than gambling on the Infinity.What are your views on this ? Is the Infinity worth the stress ?
If you don't want the Infinity than get the Nexus. They are two different products for different purposes and use cases.

It is all a matter of personal preference.
I owned the Infinity for 3 months before selling it. During that time, I exchanged it twice thinking I kept getting a defective tablet, because each one was slow, sluggish and had the occasional screen flicker. Not to mention the bad I/O. Another thing that bothered me is, most of the apps I used, and games I played, even YouTube, looked really washed out. I kept it until the JB update to see if it would make the tablet any better, but it didn't(to me anyway it felt more sluggish after). From day one of owning the tablet, I tried pretty hard to convince myself that I like the tablet, but after a while I gave up, and decided to sell it.
I bought the Nexus 10 when it launched, and from the moment I got it, I loved it. It's smooth, it's fast, the screen is awesome, and it feels real comfortable to hold. The front facing stereo speakers are also pretty cool, they sound great, and they can get pretty loud. All the apps that I used on the Infinity look way better on the Nexus 10.
This is just my personal opinion and preference though. It all depends on what you are going to use it for, and what you prefer.
I have owned the tf700 for about a month.
This is a fact. The read/write speed to the internal flash is really slow. To overcome this problem you will need to unlock and install a custom ROM/APKs. This will void your warranty.
It's not that the tf700 is unusable with slow flash IO, instead it makes the user experience so very aggravating.
I am going to get the ASUS TF700T for the holidays. In 8 days to be more precise. I can't wait. I am a big techie and want flash some custom stuff to it.
Also waiting for Nexus 10 to come to my country and most probably its bye bye to my infinity then.
User experience just isnt what it should be. I also have ipad and even if I hate itunes and iOS I must say that the performance is so much better. And I am talking about the very first ipad.
You could think that there is something very badly wrong with Android but I also own Samsung Note 2 and there the performance is perfect. Also what i have tried some Samsung tablets they are smooth also. I just dont want lo-res screen on tablet so will try Nexus 10
The nexus 10 has pretty much the same issues. But everyone's so busy drooling over it they forget to read the Nexus 10 forum and see that there's hardly any improvement.

I just got a nexus 10 and a week old tf700 and the user experience on the n10 is far better than the tf700. Everything just works and hardly any lag. I'm not sure how an unlocked tf700 compares though. Where the n10 fails for me is the lower contrast level of the n10. Black arent as black either. And the lack of kb with extended battery. I'm not sure which to keep.

I appreciate that so much as I 'm going to get the NEXUS 10 16gig as its all I can afford.Just worried about the lack of expandability,and no card slot.Guess I'll make do with it somehow.I love games movies and music...16gigs is nothing close to that enjoyment.

I thought it was just me that thought the tf700 was not all it's advertised to be. Whatever browser I use seems slower than it should be and seems to force close too often.The biggest irritation is that I can't keep the email working. I have MS Outlook on my PC and used that to put email on my Razr Maxx and rooted Nook tablet and they work fine. On tf700 it either doesnt work at all or works a day or 2 then all emails disappear. Sometimes it will load a few msg then as soon as I read one all the rest disappear. I have uninsalled, reinstalled several times and even tried to install it using K-9 mail. Nothing works. Is mine a lemon or an I just doing something dumb? I just know enough to be dangerous!

I got the tf700t yesterday i see what lag urtlking about but honestly it rlly does seem better unlocked with custom rom w/out not very good.... i didnt get any sods or RRs yet everything seems fine the batteey life is better than expected im not sure how the n10 is but the 700 isnt bad, the keyboard is pricey seems..... JUST MY EARLY OPINION

Honestly I don't know why I bother to respond to a thread like this, but the TF700 Infinity is the best tablet available, bar none, once you have unlocked and flashed a custom ROM/kernel. The best one for performance, smoothness, speed and stability is without doubt CleanROM Inheritance v2.7 with Clemsyn's oc kernel (gpu oc to 700). With a few additional tweaks available during ROM installation, nothing out now comes close to the Infinity. It's worth jettisoning ASUS warranty to unlock the goodness.

Any info helps man and thank you. I'm stuck between my n10 and tf700 right now so I'm really concerned that unlocking wont make it on par with the N10. Dull screen and no kb dock is the only thing steering me away from the n10 but performance is awesome. But I might have a hard time reselling an unlocked tf700 or I'll probably have to take a major los$. Christmas time rolling around so I have to support my hobby and xmas $hopping the best I can =)
An unlocked infinity is by far the best thing you can find. The community has offered a lot to this machine that Asus just couldn't. Laggy Internet are you kidding..? With browser2ram outperforms my pc. 870 on browsermark bench. Yes the io issue is there its poor hardware but we have come a long way since stock now you can't even notice it. This think now flyes. Plus dock plus amazing screen that you can actually see outdoors. N10 or ipad come out in the sun and play.. No way..

Both will feature tegra 4, 2560x1600,microsd,front & rear facing camera I assume new Asus will be unlockable but nothing is definite-
Do you think Toshiba will have better i/o?
I wouldn't mind a change but I will wait to see how it plays out ?
IF Asus fix the I/O then I think with ASUS pedigree in the Tab market and hopefully strong Dev Community which is already here you'd feel and hope it would be the better purchase. But it mostly rides on the I/O will have to wait nearer the time I suppose.

Haven't seen a release date, as it may have to depend on how fast they are cranking out Tegra 4 chips. I would go with ASUS based off their past performance in updating devices faster than other manufacturers. But like most, the I/O performance is going to influence the upgrade from those on these forums, or Toshiba or HP may be getting some customers. I would imagine an mid-July early August release for these devices.

You can order june 25 from toshiba direct
The Toshiba 32gb apparently will be $100 less than the Asus. The catch is no keyboard dock option, or steady updates. They also like to use proprietary connectors, so no advantage there. If Toshiba updated more, I would lean more to saving $100. I rarely use my TF300 dock.
I think the Tegra 4 chip is going to be a watershed point and be a near death blow for some laptop segments. The iPad 4 is already causing it and this should be a near final straw.
Edit: Both 32gb models are same price, so getting the Toshiba IMO would make no sense due to lack of updates.

Well not only that the Toshiba has locked boot loaders. Good luck rooting it as it does not seem like even the existing models have support for that.

I have the Toshiba Excite 7.7 and appreciate the locked thing Device works great though

Well, I hope Asus has learnt from their mistake in ruining all of the good components in Infinity with I/O issues. This, however, makes me wonder what were they thinking when they released Infinity with such a laughable I/O performance. Mind you I eventually sold my Infinity. It was very frustrating to install ROMs one after another just to gain a bit of performance. Despite of loving Android as a mature OS, I am going back to iPad to focus on using the tablet rather than fixing mistakes of greedy careless hardware manufacturers. Are you listening Asus?!

Now cool down and read this: If it was not for the great work some of the developers do here I wouldn't keep it for a day. TO name a few, CROMI and CM10.1 really made it tolerable and even great in some aspects. But I cannot blame you for simply being a fan. There are fanboys in all of the camps. Android and apple.

Not a fanboy, I lack a few dangling bits between my legs for that.
I do not regret my purchase at all. I have not noticed much in terms of lag, certainly not as much as people claim there to be. Compared to my GT 2 10.1, which I most certainly do regret buying, it is razorsharp and very smooth.
Maybe others are too proud to admit a mistake, but that is a male ego trait. I have neither pride nor ego, let alone the need to defend it.
All I meant was that it is a little lame to go on an Android forum to say Apple is better.
I bought the Excite Pro, good piece of equipment, some cons ofc but i'm really enjoying it, to bad about support though.
Toshiba is pretty bad for update efforts. My Toshiba Excite 7.7 is an example. Toshiba are also awful with making efficient firmware that does not bleed the battery while in sleep mode. Even with wifi off it bleeds more than most tablets. Wonder if same for the new T4 tablet.

And it looks to be a damn fine tablet. Antutu scored 28k+ and the graphics power is phenomenal. Has built in video and audio enhancements, seems pretty stable on this kernal build, although I expect an update soon because of a couple of weird quirks. The stylus works great (love the eraser by turning over the pen!), but not as developed as the Note 10.1, however, the screen rez is fantastic at 320 DPI and looks as good as the Nexus 10. The rear camera is REALLY great...best I've seen so far on a tablet, and the speakers are clear as a bell with excellent surround sound controlled in hardware, so anything you play gets enhanced. It does get a little warm on the left side under the camera when running an intensive app.

I pre ordered from Toshiba and they shipped it the next day even though it said they weren't shipping till the 18th. I guess they wanted to live up to the Excite part...lol

Our guess is as good as yours. They have been really quiet since the reveal. I would guess mid August for back to school season
