Is probably that backup assistant is removed from the ROM. you could restore your stock and export contacts to SD or go to the backup assistant website and export the contacts. Then go to the Google contacts website and import them. Now your contacts will sync with any android phone you sign into automatically.

[Q] [Help] Newb Questions - I've tried searching

Hey guys, I'm back with another question.
Little info about the phone first.
I'm running MikShift v1.01
Kernal 2.6.32.21-gbd7abbd
I'm not getting Sprint's Visual Voicemail on my phone. It just text me and says I have a new voicemail. Is there a way to add this on? I've tried downloading MikShift v1.1, but everytime I do, it still says v1.01
Also, I've downloaded cyanogen mod7. The only problem is, when I flash to it, none of my messages or contacts come with it. Is there a way to load these on once I transfer over?
One last question. Is there Kernal I'm running current? Or is there another one I should be running at this time?
Thanks in advance for your help. Will "thanks" with any info given.
Thanks again!
Well for the voicemail u have to get the sprint voicemail apk. And install that ..and if u want ur contacts saved u can use an app called my backup from the market or just go to ur contacts and then hit menu and export them to ur SD card. That exporting method works on sense and cm7 and whenever u wanna put ur contacts back just go to the contacts app and then hit menu and import the contacts from ur SD card
Edit : oh and for ur messages u can also back them up with that my backup app from the market.or just look for SMS backup or something

Ok. I just went ahead and went with google voice after reading some reviews. I want to avoid the constant error messages from Sprint.
As far as the backup methods you suggested, I tried "my backup" and did a complete backup. Then when I loaded cyanogen mod7, I went into file manager and attempted to load it. It started to reboot and it stopped at a triangle with an exclamation point inside of it and the android guy. It just say there for 10 minutes. So, I assumed that means something was wrong.
Any insight on this? Thanks for your help on this too!

I think I may give up on these CM roms. Maybe I'll just stick with the Mik roms. I don't have any problems with them. Plus, they should have a sense with GB up and going, bug free here soon.
I appreciate your help though!

temporary solution:
get all contacts from TMO website manually
That's why you should always sync to Google

Yes! Especially with their new motto! They want to know as much about you as possible... and by syncing your contacts with them, you are feeding them what they need to survive... Reminds me of the Little Shop of Horrors... Google sitting around belching, "FEED ME!"

Copy the MobileBackup.apk to your sd card. You can use 'Super Manager' from the app market. Open 'Super Manager' then go into file manager. Check your settings in Super Manager by going into setup/root and make sure 'enable ROOT function' is checked. Find your MobileBackup.apk on your SD Card and copy. Press 'Back up level folder' twice. Go into 'system/app' and make sure 'system is set to (r/w). Paste the MobileBackup.apk in the folder.
But like the others said... you really should use GMail to backup your contacts.
Thanks!
haha thanks everyone, I think it is just a bug he hasent worked out yet cus when i use the app switch me (kinnda like dual boot, only just 1 rom) I found all of my contacts were there when i tried syncing tm contacts from the .apk I ported ...
my solution to get on my main boot was to save a .vcf to my sd.
BTW- Thanks everyone for your help

Contacts from backup?

I made a backup using TWRP before flashing over to a new rom and was wondering if there's anyway to recover those contacts from the backup? Maybe like restoring the backup then exporting the contacts to phone storage then re-flashing the new rom? Just want to know if possible before going through all that to find out i cant.. thanks.
Couldn't find any solid answers on google either.
I think that's what you have to do

If you are using a Gmail/google account when you setup your phone then use it to sync your contacts to your google account.
That way when you flash a new rom and setup your google account on the phone your contacts can be synced with your phone with no fuss.

[Q] Apps Backup

Hello folks !
Would anyone please help me out. I have two Questions.
1. I usually keep on switching from one rom to another. This is my only phone and hence would like to have my data in one place. I was using Titanium backup until recently but then I've read multiple times that restoring apps Using TI backup causes problems. Is it true ? and if yes then what other alternative is there so that I can backup my Apps with data ?
2. The contacts on my google account are not synced and during initial phone setup, the google contacts are restored. Hence the contacts are few and if I restore the vcf file which I made just before switching to another rom, the contacts get doubled, even if the names match perfectly. So i have two contacts with same picture, same name, same number which is frustrating :\ How can I delete all my contacts and then just restore the vcf file?
Thanks in advance
i don think there will be any problem using Titanium Backup. it will jst restores the app with data.. so no problem watsoever.. bt since batch restore option is not available in free version of TB, i m usng super backup.. which works similar to TB n supports batch restore.. in addition u can also back up contacts, msgs etc..
:thumbup::thumbup:
Use titanium ... it save all data
& regarding 2nd problem first delete all ur contacts..aftr tht go to contacts > display options > then uncheck all the other accounts except Phone.. that's it
:thumbup::thumbup:
if u dont mind the data going Apps backup and restore is pretty good ..and its free in the market .have all my google stuff backed up so no probs for me ..dont really care about other apps ..
Until now I have always used Titanium backup to restore the data, etc... and without problems and I have load several ROMS in the last months ( I hope Alpha 6 will be one of the last ones )
Now I'm only using Titatium backup to restore the settings/data for some applications as 4.2 roms automatically download from the play store the applications installed previously in the device.
Cheers
Thanks everyone
And yeah, how do I delete multiple contacts? :-\ there's no multi select option...

[Q] How can I restore after booting into recovery? All contacts, apps, sms lost

Hello,
I booted into recovery using the Down Volume and Power button. It seems to have restored the interface to factory default, although all my pics on the phone and SD card are there.
I cant find any contacts,SMS or previous apps. The app files are on the device. I can see them from my PC, but they are not installed.
After booting into recovery mode I just returned there a couple times. Finally I was able to boot normally, but into a fresh UI.
How can I restore or get back my (wife's) contacts and SMS's? I think that they should be there on the phone still. They were not backed up.
Thanks.

Is the phone rooted? Are you using clockwork mod recovery? Contacts are usually backed up with a google/gmail account. Go into her settings>sync settings and hopefully her gmail account is there. If it is, just click on it and her contacts should restore. You can also backup your apps through the gmail account as well. I believe the playstore has an option to automatically update via wifi, try looking in there for options about that. If her contacts were not backed up via gmail, then they are probably lost. I'm going to assume that you do not have a nandroid backup on the device via CWM that you could roll back to?

Thanks for your reply. No, it is not rooted. No CWM (yet). It seems there is no backup of the contacts because syncing was off. I used the phone first and then passed it to my wife, so she did not want all my contacts, she just managed contacts manually. That is why syncing was off. I kept my google account on the phone to manage apps.
I do not have a Nandoid backup. I looked at Helium, but it does not seem to work on Android 2.2.2. How would you recommend I back up the device to prepare for a custom ROM like CM7.2?
I am more worried about her manually added contacts and SMS's.
I did not install anything like CWM yet, just booted into recovery mode. Then the phone started asking me questions like in the initiall setup ei "Add a Google Account"
Is there a way that I can extract the contacs and SMS's from a directory on the phone. (Most of her data and directories seem to be there when viewed from a PC as USB storage).
Why would this happen from a simple reboot into recovery mode? Did I hold the Volume Down and power too long?
Thanks,

To be honest I do not know if there is way to extract the lost contact information. I am only knowledgeable about recovery protocols with a rooted device utilizing a custom recovery software such as cmw. I have never entered recovery prior to flashing cwm. There are plenty of guides in the stickies that show how to flash cwm via nvflash and guides on how to use it in order to flash a custom rom like cm7.2

Your contacts are unfortunately gone. With the stock recovery holding the buttons too long equals a data wipe which is where contacts and such are stored.
Been there, done that. I had a similar situation on my wife's phone and ended up creating a dummy Google account for her so contacts would be backed up automatically.
The noob says:
In the absence of a valid argument, 2+1=3 may be used to explain why the g2x did not get the ICS update!
I was hoping you would jump in here mansa! Thanks!
