Hello folks !
Would anyone please help me out. I have two Questions.
1. I usually keep on switching from one rom to another. This is my only phone and hence would like to have my data in one place. I was using Titanium backup until recently but then I've read multiple times that restoring apps Using TI backup causes problems. Is it true ? and if yes then what other alternative is there so that I can backup my Apps with data ?
2. The contacts on my google account are not synced and during initial phone setup, the google contacts are restored. Hence the contacts are few and if I restore the vcf file which I made just before switching to another rom, the contacts get doubled, even if the names match perfectly. So i have two contacts with same picture, same name, same number which is frustrating :\ How can I delete all my contacts and then just restore the vcf file?
Thanks in advance
i don think there will be any problem using Titanium Backup. it will jst restores the app with data.. so no problem watsoever.. bt since batch restore option is not available in free version of TB, i m usng super backup.. which works similar to TB n supports batch restore.. in addition u can also back up contacts, msgs etc..
:thumbup::thumbup:
Use titanium ... it save all data
& regarding 2nd problem first delete all ur contacts..aftr tht go to contacts > display options > then uncheck all the other accounts except Phone.. that's it
:thumbup::thumbup:
if u dont mind the data going Apps backup and restore is pretty good ..and its free in the market .have all my google stuff backed up so no probs for me ..dont really care about other apps ..
Until now I have always used Titanium backup to restore the data, etc... and without problems and I have load several ROMS in the last months ( I hope Alpha 6 will be one of the last ones )
Now I'm only using Titatium backup to restore the settings/data for some applications as 4.2 roms automatically download from the play store the applications installed previously in the device.
Cheers
Thanks everyone
And yeah, how do I delete multiple contacts? :-\ there's no multi select option...

Does anyone else have this problem ? I want it to make silent backup on Monday while I am sleeping but nothing happened. Actually it was 02:00 on Monday, it should be last night then.

Working fine for me ?
Just tested this and worked fine for me ?
Am on rooted handset, running on the R2BA023 firmware (rooted).
Sheet, mine is 020 rooted. Will try again, dont know what could be the problem. I am talking about nackup when the screen is off and the phone is on sleep, over night. Hope you have tried that and that it works.
Wait, does TB backup phonebook, SMS etc ? I have just read that it doesnt backup that !?!?!? What else TB doesnt backup ?
It doesn't really backup stock apps. I mean it says its backed up but if u try to reinstall any if them the option for restore is blacked out!! although some sortof file its backed up within the folders but no apks.. I think they were .tar files or something! hope it helps!!

No, I dont need it to backup stock apps, I need it to backup data from those stock apps, such as phonebook entries, received/sent SMS etc. Can it do that ? Hope it can...
Erm I don't think it does!! Never has for me anyway
However for both, either use mybackup from the market
Or
the inbuilt backup & restore app (unles uve removed it)
http://db.tt/DlNSuy
the backup data option is usually the settings backed up for that app!

Backup stock apps and during restore it prompts you whether you want to restore app, app data or both.
Hello
Just got my new Google Nexus S : )
I wanted to know if It would be better to wait till google releases the new ICS 4.0 Andriod and get it updated and then go with New Roms
or
Should i install a new ROM now for better speed and stability ?
If yes, which ROM should i start off with as i am a total beginner with Rooting/Flashing etc.
I dont mind waiting till 4.0 Android is released...
Any suggestions ?
Putting ROMs on it now doesn't exclude you from putting ICS on it later. Go have fun with it and try out different ROMS. When ICS comes out, you can put that on it too. No restrictions !!
But wouldnt rooting the device bar me from updating to ICS officially from Google ?
Yes but there will be ICS ROMs released here that you can install
Stock Android is actually pretty good and very stable. But if you want to toy around, just go ahead and have fun with the great ROMs we have available now.
Greetz
U can also flash back to stock when ics comes out and update officially and reroot and your good

That is the one I used...how ever I would suggest getting a 5.0.2.0 recovery image as the one in the file that goes with that video is an older version...it will still work though.

Which ROM or Kernel did you try out ?
How about using Rom Manager by ClockworkMod?
Which program to use for backing up Data (contacts, messages etc) before Rooting the device ?
off topic, but since you asked about backing up contacts im sure this could help. Go to your contacts, and choose the option to back them all up to SD card. After that, choose to delete all your contacts from your phone, then restore the backup from SD, but choose to restore them as gmail contacts instead of to your phone. This way when you sync your gmail account your contacts will just repopulate. Very handy when flashing new roms ect

When i import "IMport from USB Storage", it does not ask me to import as Gmail Contacts.
How do i do that ?
For me,
I will import my contacts in gmail (via browser in pc) so i can manage easily, edit, create group, etc..
and finally sync it all to phone.
That was i done when i use android for the first time.

Just plug it in and transfer files bro. When you plug it in choose to mount as disk drive when your phone prompts you too. You can then transfer all your pics and notes etc like that. Then to be double sure, use super backup for your contacts, then transfer that file to your computer. But also be aware, rooting will not erase sdcard, UNLOCKING the bootloader will usually reset you. Hope this helps.. root it and boot it

Backup your contacts to Gmail. Copy and paste pics and videos to your computer as mentioned above. If you want, you can backup SMS using apps like SMS Backup+. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to backup app data without root, which of course doesn't help in your case.

I use "My Backup Pro" to backup my apps etc...(no root necessary). It will backup the apps but without the app settings info. So, if you restore the apps, you have to input your info again. It will backup everything.. sms, contacts etc... I use this app when I need to do a fresh restore. Make sure to copy the backup folder into your pc or Dropbox before restoring "fresh" your phone.
Hope this helps.

So it doesn't save app data, like game saves (unless rooted), right?
It looks like it does save MMS, which might be useful for me. SMS Backup+ doesn't do that (will backup your MMS pics to Gmail, but not restore them back to your phone).
No, won't backup saved data. If rooted, I would have used titanium backup. Would save apps+data.

I just saw this topic and hope share my experience, worried about the fact that HTC One doesn't Sync both ways like other ccounts (Blackberry iPhone etc). Contacts outdated on PC's Outlook now and most new contacts are put on the phone, bit concerned about no back up should the phone fail - can Dropbox be used for this or any other suggestions re how to protect all info in the People section?

The default on Android is to backup all contact info to Gmail. You can verify by simply logging into Gmail on a PC and see if all your contacts are there. If not go into Contacts settings on the phone and merge contacts.
BTW, you realize this is the forum section for the HTC One X/XL, not the HTC One? They are completely different phones. Your post history is all over the place, so I can't even tell what device you own.
Also, you are responding to a thread over a year old.
Everytime I flash a ROM, the biggest time investment is always merging contacts from different accounts. I have to spend an hour doing it everytime.
Is there a way to backup the changes that I have made and just restore it after a flash?

I've been using Titanium Backup which has a similar option but I wasn't sure if it would work as far as contacts displayed, merges, etc without screwing something else up. Have you ever used My Backup Root to backup changes specifically to contacts?
can you just export the list to a .vcf before hand? then just import back after you flash the new rom?
Hey guys,
I've recently changed my rom to slimkat and I had some important notes that i stashed in my google keep. Luckily i have a backup of the app and data on my titanium from when i used to run that version of google keep on beanstalk.
I've tried restoring the app on my current slimkat rom, but it wont let me. Whats the easiest way for me to retrieve those notes?
Cheers
Mubs
google keep notes are backed up with your google account, you dont need to backup the data using titanium backup.
log in to https://drive.google.com/keep/ and sign in with your google account. does the notes appear? if not then you will need to set auto sync on your phone and make sure keep is synced.

Google keep should be synced across your devices.. ? Check https://keep.google.com/
If your notes are there then they've been synced and syncing to your new rom should be fine. If they're not there then either you didn't sync it and now would need to restore the app's data rather than the whole app.
Thanks for the replys.
I've tried that and my old notes don't appear. Maybe I didn't sync them using Google before.
Whats my next option? Ive also gone and installed keep off play store. Now that I try to uninstall it using titanium it says failed to uninstall apk file. Come to think of it, its doing the same thing for all the system apps.
If you really need those notes, you may have to reinstall your old ROM, restore the data and sync properly. And restoring system data between different ROMs is often a bad idea.
I managed to sort it.
I installed a fresh copy of keep but had the data transfered over from titanium backup.
I still have the problem where I can't delete system apps though. Can anybody advise on this?
Cheers
