Thought you all might find this interesting. My buddy got his Atrix yesterday and I got to play with it this morning and compare to my Captivate running FireFly 2.1 rom. Initial impressions are frankly not impressed. I think my screen is brighter and pretier. The resolution seems to be higher on the Atrix, which is great, but the fonts are hard to read and buttons much harder to press then on my captivate which has same screen size. My phone seems to be generally snappier and when I ran NeoCore on both phones the Cappy beat the Atrix by 2 FPS or more every time. Not too impressed with duel core or perhaps the phone just needs an XDA hacked rom to fix it. Anyway, didn't love it to be honest which was a surprise to me. Love my Captivate even with the few issues it has. Just my thoughts and initial impressions.
I got my GF the Atrix to replace her N1, played with it all day yesterday. I liked it.
I think I could be perfectly happy with this screen.......... if I had never seen an amoled before.
The resolution is great. Very sharp. Text looks awesome.
Its a tough call. Images look sharper on the Atrix, but the color/blacks is better on the Captivate. Both phones set to 1/2 brightness, and the Atrix just has that LCD backlight washout look. But its not bad, its slight. Way better than an Evo for example. (or my galaxy tab)
I'm looking at both side by side, and I can't decide. One is sharper, but one has better looking color/black levels. I guess it will have to come down to preference. I'm really torn. And I will admit I'm an amoled fanboy.
The speed is much better on the Atrix. (I have the latest paragon ROM on my cap) I tried some webpages that the captivate would choke on, and the Atrix was fine. Also moving around the market, installing apps, much quicker. And never any lag anywhere. Doing a Titanium restore was *much* faster than I've ever seen on the N1 or SGS.
If you bench with Quadrant or Linpak, it destroys the cap.
Here is a crude photo of the screens side by side, you can see some subtle differences, but to really compare you have to see in person.

My Cappy running FireFly 2.1 was very obviously faster to me moving around the phone and in the market. My friends Atrix right out of the box was visibly slower. Even found it laggy when moving from portrait to lanscape. Anyway, thanks and always neet to hear others impressions.

Do another test when 2.4 rolls out. That is when true dual core support rolls out for Android. I'm willing to guess then you will actually see a boost.

I will honestly say it went back and forth. Somtimes the Atrix would be quicker, sometimes my Cap. But one thing I did notice for sure, was the web page scrolling, the app installing, and the Titanium restore was much faster on the Atrix. (and the bench numbers, but they are meaningless I spose)
As far as my overall impression... I still have my Cap. And I'm a sucker for getting phones on release day. I think playing with it for a day was enough for me, I'm going to wait and see how things play out with the Atrix getting updates, and the SGS2 coming.
My non-techie GF does however like it, seems to be a good upgrade from her N1.
I'm a photographer and looking at the pics above I'd say the Cappy is better. The Atrix has slightly better color rendition, but the Cappy's shadow detail is much better. Look at the car's front grille and the dark area in the trees to the left. Look at the front wheel. On the Atrix it is almost all one color, but on the Cappy you can see some more definition. Better shadow detail means better pictures in lower light and more crispness overall, areas where many cameras fall short. Can't speak to performance, but on picture quality alone I would take the Cappy. Of course, what you see on the phone's screen could be completely different than what you see after you transfer the pic to a computer, but if something like watching a movie on the device is important, the phone that better renders pics will also look better with movies.

I am by no means a photographer, but I can see what your pointing out. Also for info, the pic on the phones was shot with my Nikon D80 w/Nikon lens, and the pic of the phones was shot with the same cam/lens.
Also forgot to mention I have a couple of the 720p Samsung movies that came on the vibrant (or epic or something) just like showcase vids. Played one on both phones, and the cap was the *clear* winner. If I think about it, I'll do it again tonight, and take some pics of that, the difference is *much* greater than my car photo.
Another thing to look at is the bright areas. On the Atrix they are just blobs, but the Cappy still shows some detail. Look at the bright hedges to the left and right of the light pole. Very little detail in the Atrix ones. The detail of the bricks is also clearly better on the Cappy.
So to the OP or anyone that also had hands on with the device, I am assuming that the Atrix, to you, is not worth the off-contract price and/or renewing your contract for 2 more years? Just need your opinion

It's not that cut and dry, I think the Atrix has it's purpose and performs very well at it.

Sorry, but it was to me after a couple of days with the Inspire. Yes I returned it.
Just wasn't worth the 2 year upgrade for that phone and definitely not worth the no-contract price.
Edit: But I probably won't get the Atrix either because I don't want to do it all over again with the buying and returning, just wanted some opinions. But I can wait til the 3rd or 4th quarter of new phones.

I haven't seen an Inspire in person, but on paper it would be awesome if it had come out a year ago. I would imagine the Atrix would be better in every single way. I would rather have my Cap than the Inspire.
I have to tell you that I thought this might be my next phone, but initial impression was not better than what I have now with the Cappy for sure. Maybe a future update will fix the speed and make it much faster. Funny, my buddy with Atrix just walked in the room while I was typing this and he is struggling to read the screen. I noticed that with the resolution being higher that the words and icons appeared smaller myself. He is an older gentleman and having trouble reading the screen. Have to admit that I think I would be struggling as well. Does anyone know how to increase the fonts overall on an android phone? His is not rooted yet of course.
Awww weak, I was planning on getting this phone but it looks like qdisplay or w/e it's called isn't for me. Guess I'll wait for SGS 2
2011 is a sucky year for smartphones, even though it's the most hyped I've seen in a while.

I haven't messed with this myself, but I've seen a lot of guys with the Galaxy tabs playing around with it, you can at least give it a shot.

Rooting the Atrix is super easy, only takes a couple of minutes. One click pretty much. I might even give this a try on my Galaxy tab for giggles..
Interesting write-ups and thanks for the information. I was impressed when I saw the Atrix on paper but haven't made it into the store to mess around with one. I love the screen on my cappy and it will be hard for me to migrate away from it. Once I finally got the ROM setup where I wanted it, I do like this phone. I am however, anxiously awaiting whats down the road this year.
Regarding the photo of the screens...
Think about it: a photo of an SAMOLED screen displayed on a computer's LCD display is not going to be of any use. By viewing the photo on LCD you're immediately eliminating 99% of the stuff that makes OLED stand out.
It's pretty useless to judge an SAMOLED screen (or a SAMOLED-vs-LCD comparison) via an image on a computer as a result.

New Phone coming to Boost Mobile MNVO of Sprint USA. It features 3.5 inch display or 3.2 inch. It is running Froyo. SD Card slot up to 32gb, no information so far on card that comes with device. 3.2mp camera (no idea if it has flash)
No actual information on processor but I'm going to assume it's an arm 11.
The actual phone is supposed to be announced at a Boost Mobile / Samsung event on April 5th.
I'm betting my money on $150 usd for the device.
If anything, it'll either be the qualcomm ms11 turbo, or the Samsung SC soc they've been using a lot more. I'd rather see the qualcomm one, seeing that their older SoC's suck.

I currently have a myTouch 4G, but unfortunately live in a 2G T-Mobile area. Thinking of moving to another carrier, that is also cheaper. Love Android, so this little device interest me. Came here in search of CM7 rumors for this phone. I'll sit back, wait and watch.
Since I have less than 8 posts here, I am not able to provide the Engadget link for this phone, which says: 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 2 megapixel camera, $180.

Boost is starting to give the customers what they want, i already have an android device on boost but Im thinking about getting this phone on a second line or give to my wife, is any rom cookers thinking about messing around with tricking out a rom for this one cause beleive me probally %50 of the boostmobile customers are gonna be all over this one! Its android baby!
I have my eye on this one knowing now that T-Mobile is about to become AT&T-mobile. I considered Boost for the $50/month unlimited plan which is a sweet deal, but at the time I was making my decision they didn't have any phones I was interested in owning. I'll definitely take a look at this once my contract is up, or able to be shredded due to AT&T related changes.
I've read that the Boost phones aren't as feature packed as some of the others... but with this being my first smart phone, will it matter much??
I currently have a phone that I just use for talk and txt on att's pre-paid service... so if I can get this and add internet and email for $10 less per month, that's what I wanna do. Coverage doesn't look too bad in my area... which hopefully it's not.
I'm mainly looking for something that I'd be able to tether with my Xoom and get 'net access to receive work emails and possibly transfer files via dropbox from time time when I'm on the road and not connected via wifi.
The Boost Samsung Prevail was finally released today. Will this entry level Android phone see lots of flashing love in the form of 2.3.3 or 2.3.4?

Picked one of these up this morning. To answer some questions:
- It only comes with a 2 gig SD card
- No Flash, samsung said its not supported due to hardware restrictions. I did try to install it, but it causes browsers to close.
- 179.99, I was told by the sprint store only the "boostmobile" branded stores have them right now, I had to hunt one down and they only had one on the shelf. Also they went on sale online this morning, and now the web page is reporting "sold out online".
- I have yet to root it, but haven't tried really hard yet either. SuperOneClick has failed for me.
That being said, it actually seems pretty snappy. It also has some weight to it, maybe because the battery is 1500mah. Quadrant results show 554, just a bit higher than the Nexus One, but below the Samsung Galaxy S.
CPU is an ARMv6, rev 5, 800mhz
Display is 320x480, but still looks really good. The biggest complaint I've been reading about is the screen size, but I'll be honest, it doesn't seem that small to me. Maybe thats because I've been using an Android loaded Vogue, and they are smaller phones.
Its also only sports a 2mp camera, but I took some pics today and they turned out better than expected.
My personal opinion is the phone is well worth 179.99.
I would like to hear more about the Prevail, and look forward to learning more as more of these get out into the field. I'm considering one of these for my first venture into the Android world. Seems like a decent deal with Boost plans, and the phone is affordable. I'm a little concerned that it may not get the kind of attention that other phones get in terms of rooting, custom ROM's, etc. I know this is something we can always customize to taste, but with the limited horsepower, I for one really like the fact that the original ROM is basically vanilla Android.
I hope many others will share their initial impressions and then their progress with mods.

That was my concern as well, that it might not get a ton of attention as currently the prevail is only for boost mobile.
My previous phone was a HTC Touch Vogue on boost, and I noticed some of the rom developers were Boost Customers, so there is hope. At the very least it would be nice to see someone root the thing.

keyboard is not an issue as you have swype, android and a
few that can be dowloaded from the market for free. I like
the fact that it comes with froyo stripped of all that
manufacturer bs...no sense or touch wiz to clutter it up.
It's well worth the $179 price tag.

i got it yesterday for my girlfriend after hunting it for like 3 hours.
i wasnt expecting much, i mean 215 after everything shouldn't give you much, but i was wrong.
the screen is really nice and responsive, the camera is eh, but come on, is snappy, and even better with adw launcher in it, boost 3g network down here is surprisingly good, browser experience is just nice, multitouch support and all the good stuff, yeah it lacks of flash, but im sure it can be enabled, the processor is not that bad, and with customs kernels and stuff, and little oc the phone should kick some ass and then some, i mean it already does. oh and sometimes it lags, but is minimum, even my g2 lags at times.
for 215 total is a great deal, and with cyanogen, or any nice custom rom this phone would be something just awesome. i really wish this phone takes off and devs look at it, because is worth it, yeah for the price range theres the lg for virgin, but you can't go wrong if you have boost with this phone.
again, i hope this phone takes off and devs and custom goodness comes afloat because is well deserved.

I am very interested in this phone as I am looking to leave TMobile and this combination of phone Android plus the all-inclusive plan with shrinkage seems to be the best option for me. What I am wondering is has anybody opened the phone yet? I currently have a Samsung Vibrant and I had a Samsung Galaxy S 4G, and would like to know if the inside components are similar? I would like to install the 4G camera (FFC mod 5mp back-facing) in this Prevail, just wondering if the ribbon/connector for the camera is the same, since the location and design seems the same.

Even if there were some parts compatibility (which I doubt; the SGS lineup are all 4" and roughly the same dimensions) I don't think you'd find a working ROM or other setup that allowed you to use that FFC.
Will Boost port your phone number from another carrier??
I'd like to be able to keep my #, but it's not a deal breaker if they can't.....
I've been searching everywhere for a comparison thread or video or anything between the T-Mobile One S and Galaxy S3 . I right now have the One S and I am torn between this and the S3, so simple question, what phone do you think is better and why? T-mobile One S or T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 ( we pretty much know the specs)

As always, this is a question of tastes, likes and dislikes.
Looking only at the specs, the S3 is better.
But looking at practicability I think the One S is better.
If you don't care for the money go for the S3.
The benefits of the one s over the s3 are better price, better haptic due to the smaller screen and better touch due to the aluminium body.
On the other side the s3 comes with bigger battery, sd card support, better screen (hd), better cpu and probably the bigger fanbase in the future... Therefore more developers.
I don't use touchwiz or sense so this wouldnt matter for me.

this is what ive been wondering. i have till the 18th to return my htc one s if i dont like it (since i get 30 days to return it here in california). ive had reboots, signal going in and out which has been driving me nuts and wifi calling dropping calls for no reason when i have full wifi signal. also i think the gs3 looks like crap to me and cheap and the htc one s looks way better, but the GS3 does have better features (IMO) then the htc one s.

Bigger battery and also can be replaced
More ram 1gb vs 2gb which might not even matter
I think the cpu and gpu is the same as the htc one s

HTC One S:
Much better design and sexier
Camera software is better (i think it is)
Htc sense 4.0 (which i think is much better then touchwiz)
I figure for the money im better off with the gs3 since i paid 250 plus taxes for my one s. but i will see.
Firstly the GS 3 does NOT have a better processor, just because it is "quad" does not mean that it is better
The S/XL/X AT&T/Evo 4G LTE uses the latest snapdragon chip, the S4 dual core krait. Have a look at the benchmarks comparing the GS 3 and the HTC One S and the HTC One X (Snapdragon S4)

Unless you are looking at the version that the USA is getting in which case the GS 3 will then have the s4 as well.
Also just because the GS 3 has a bigger battery does not mean that it is also going to be better
Many factors affect battery life:
- screen size/type/res.
- driver/software optimization for battery
- the hardware that is used especially the CPU
etc.
So due to the bigger screen/higher res, the bigger battery is needed.
From what I have seen (from people who know what to post for screenshots regarding battery life and the required info. ) and heard from a friend (who owns the GS 3), the battery life does not sound that good, seems very average and only slightly better than the X.
Also just look at the atrix, it had a big battery, yet its battery life was terrible.
However, due to the s4 being very power efficient, the battery life could be a fair bit better than the exynos quad gs3,
version.
At least you will be able to get an extended battery though
The GS 3 only has 1GB of RAM as well (USA version has 2GB). There really is no need for any more RAM.
The GPU in the GS 3 is better (the GPU in the GS3 USA version is the same as the HTC one s [adreno 225])
So to sum up, if you want a bigger/better screen, more storage for dropbox, internal and the choice of using an SD card, NFC, better 1080P video recording (camera/photos seems good, but not a huge difference from what I can see and the HTC one/Sense V4 has a lot more features and some of them are great along with a better UI IMO) and a larger developing community go for the GS 3.
Although play with the GS 3 first and see what you think of touchwiz as I personally don't like it one bit, hate the colour scheme, modded apps and feels like a big step down from sense V4 overall IMO. Although touchwiz is tweaked very well under the bonnet.
Also you may find the GS 3 to be too big.

Sure it all comes down to preference, would you like to have "TAMPERED" written to your bootloader and documented by the same company that is supposed to honor your warranty ? How bout a VGA front camera ? Maybe the atrocious cut out for the ****ty front camera? How bout poorly designed antennae that struggle to get a signal inside a building ? What about a non expandable 16gb memory device of which only about 10 is free ?
Touchwiz and Sense both hog resources, but TW is much, much lighter. The One S restarts Sense every chance it gets, and has a serious multitasking problem.

Not an issue for a lot of people as some are happy with the stock ROM in its current state and see no reason to root and flash a custom ROM yet as the 1S is super fast and smooth out of the box with great battery life and features.
Also is that not only if you use their method via their website for unlocking or whatever it is?

Is the front camera really that important? Out of all my friends and family that I know who also have a front camera on their android phones, no one actually uses it......
The quality isn't amazing, but it isn't terrible....

That was taken with some light coming in through the window (however, it is very cloudy outside, so it would be much better when we have blue skies)
The "atrocious cut out" There is nothing wrong with it IMO.
On the other hand the notification LED is atrocious and probably the cheapest/tackiest way that HTC implemented it.
At least the entire design and looks of the S is far better than the white & pebble blue GS 3, which looks like a cheap fisher price toy IMO......
Might be built very well and durable (not as durable as the GS 2 by the looks of things though) but there is no denying that in terms of "perceived quality" the HTC handsets especially the S due to the aluminium unibody/MAO process are still leagues ahead of Samsung.

I have had my device since release day and have had no problems with the signal whatsoever no matter where I am, just took these SS when in a shopping centre in the car park level (bottom level out of three levels) and this is my signal with a H connection, which usually results in a weaker voice reception as opposed to a G/E connection:

Not an issue for some people otherwise we wouldn't have even laid eyes on the device just like the others....
Unless you plan on throwing your entire music collection (can use google music as well instead) on to your device along with films etc. then there won't be any problem with storage.

I have only had 2 reloads of the sense launcher when I was just using pure stock and it was only after returning from a game whilst using the browser as well. I have disabled a lot of sense widgets/apps etc. and use apex launcher, ics browser +, snowstorm weather widget, smooth calendar, APW calendar 4x4 widget, switch pro, and tasks free widget, swiftkey beta 3 and I have no problems with the multi-tasking, or any reloads whatsoever now.
And for the people who are experiencing the "serious" problems with the multi-tasking I am sure HTC will eventually release an update tweaking it or they could just root the mobile and install this app and then set the multi-tasking to what you want:

I have had the GS 2 (on stock ICS) right beside my 1S (complete stock sense) and the 1S was noticeably quicker and smoother in every area that I tried be it browsing, games, loading apps/menus, carrying tasks out etc.
The GS 3 seems to have just as many problems as well, seems to be some wifi problems, screen problems amongst other problems and I am sure as time goes on and more and more people get their GS 3 will see even more posts stating problems etc. just like what it was with the 1S.
No device is perfect out of the box, guaranteed that every single device will have problems, even the iphones, which are suppose "to just work out of the box" have problems with the screen, buzzing in ear piece, poor battery life for a lot of handsets and signal problems as well etc.
And just because people experience certain problems with their devices does not mean that it applies to every single handset there is in the world.....
When OP asks this question here, I assume you ask the same on s3 forum cos you will for sure have most of people recommend one s here and s3 there.
There is no definitely good or bad, or better or worse between these two. Even one s is not HTC's flagship, give it to other brands, it could enough take the crown.
We could only rationally compare the specs and provide personal preference which is so depending on individules. I wouldn't deny that s3 does have better specs in some areas but one s wins in others. And one s has a few issues such as the mao coating chipping off. But it does not stop us loving the phone, rather, it only makes us love it even more cos only when you care your device, you want it better, right? Just like me, I never know what problem s3 has and will have, simply because I don't really care, I am satisfied with my beloved one s and I am pretty sure I will keep loving it since it is almost almost perfect.
So, the best way to find out which one to get, is to see the specs first, then find out any issues with both, especially if there is any deal breaking one, if you still cannot decide, go play with both in your local shops and feel them yourselves. However, I do recommend avoiding black one s cos it has hardware issue, but grey one is fine.
In the end I would say, I lovey my one s! Hope lots of people do the same (of course, try love your one s, not mine )

if you're mad about the reboots and random issues it has when it first came out don't think the s3 is going to be perfect and bug free either cause you're going to be dissapointed if you gave up ur one S for a rebooting brick

Im in the EXACT same boat as you. I got my One S for 290 on Tmo with upgrade and am looking to sell back my One S for the GSiii. The only thing is I have til the end of this week to decide! Haha. If I sell back to T-Mo, will I be able to upgrade again?
Regarding reboots, since release day pretty much, I have only had 2 reboots and they both happened when I was using swiftkey beta 3, so it may have been related to that app due to it being in "beta" stages.....
Haven't had any more reboots since the latest beta version and update for the 1S *touch wood*

yeah u can still upgrade if u return it within the 30 days or whatever days u have. i probably will trade mine back in right before it ends. it just depends on how much the gs3 cost me. i cant stand no micro sd card expansion. i know we get drop box but what good is drop box when ur out and u get crappy 2g? its pretty much useless and so is google music. this is why i would much rather have expandable memory so i dont have to rely on my internet connection. it just sucks to give up such a sexy ass device plus i normally hate samsung and love htc but i feel like im getting more for my money if the gs3 cost me the same as the htc one s cost me. if it cost more then i will stick with the one s.

Sweet if its 199 with no rebates then I will get it asap. I paid 250 plus tax and over night shipping which cost me 340 which is kinda to much money for this phone. I sent the rebate in but it can take up to 8 weeks to get my 50

Yeah the size is nice and its 720p which is also nice. I like the expandable micro sd and the removable battery is nice as well and NFC support.

Is the front camera really that important? Out of all my friends and family that I know who also have a front camera on their android phones, no one actually uses it......
The quality isn't amazing, but it isn't terrible....

The "atrocious cut out" There is nothing wrong with it IMO.
On the other hand the notification LED is atrocious and probably the cheapest/tackiest way that HTC implemented it.
At least the entire design and looks of the S is far better than the white & pebble blue GS 3, which looks like a cheap fisher price toy IMO......
Might be built very well and durable (not as durable as the GS 2 by the looks of things though) but there is no denying that in terms of "perceived quality" the HTC handsets especially the S due to the aluminium unibody/MAO process are still leagues ahead of Samsung.
I have had my device since release day and have had no problems with the signal whatsoever no matter where I am, just took these SS when in a shopping centre in the car park level (bottom level out of three levels) and this is my signal with a H connection, which usually results in a weaker voice reception as opposed to a G/E connection:

I agree with this post almost completely.....except that I am definately having the data issue. I am hoping against hope that the ghost firmware update will correct this.
I returned mine yesterday and am having the same problem with this second one.
Edit-I think I'm in a fringe/low lieing area. I never get a real good signal, but the indicator fluctuates wildly. Mostly at 1-2 bars or less.
I myself would choose the One S over the SIII. Which I did.
I was a little concerned about the battery but it has turned out to be a non issue. Battery life is superb!
Changed my mind. I am sticking with the One S. Build quality is wayyyy better plus I would have to shoot myself in the groin if I had to deal with TouchWiz, even for one day. It's nice that you can have much more memory, but that's about it.

yeah it does suck but at least there is apex launcher which makes any phone nicer lol. plus im sure there will be a cm9 rom for it somewhere along the way. lol im still thinking about it. i probably wont make up my mind till i see the pricing official from tmobile
I can get a 16gb nexus 5 and LG G2 base model for around the same price (give or take 20 dollars) Which one would you choose? My concern about the nexus 5 is its battery life, which the G2 is great at.

Between the two at this exact moment, I'd take the LG G2 personally because battery life is quite important to me in a portable device of most any kind. Reviews show it has fantastic battery life (meaning the G2) and I doubt seriously - considering the size of the battery in the Nexus 5 - that the Nexus 5 will get anywhere near what the G2 is proving quite capable of.
So, for me the LG G2 would be a no-brainer since we know KitKat will be showing up quite soon since the source is available - we just had a 4.4 build created by houstonn for the LGOG which I happen to have, it's mostly functional but I'm sure soon enough it will be 100% to go.

Agreed. If battery is your main concern and the price is similar, I would choose the G2. Battery isn't that important to me though. All I really need from a phone is a full average day on a single charge and I think I will get that from the N5. I get a full day with my N4 on most days, but I run it conservatively.
I have a G2 now, and I get 2-3 days with the G2 and I get 1-2 days with the Note 3.

Another possible benefit to the G2 is that has Audience's Earsmart noise cancellation chip. It remains to be seen if the Nexus 5 will have it, but since it would impose extra licensing fees, I'm guessing it's more likely than not that the Nexus 5 won't have it (Google has to cut corners somewhere, to sell the Nexus 5 for a low price).
Audience's noise cancellation chip is by far the best noise cancellation out there. Much better than Qualcomm's native solution Fluence (which the Nexus 4 uses). The Nexus One had the Audience chip and was one of the first phones to use it. I really miss that. I could be in super loud environments and people thought I was at home. The Nexus 4 has been a huge step down in this respect. After the Nexus One, the iPhone 4 used the Audience chip (and of course everyone acted like Apple invented noise cancellation, even though they were late comers to the game). In any case, it got much praise on the iPhone 4. But it has been dropped from the iPhone 5 for Apple's own in house solution and the (very few) critics how pay attention to this have pointed out that it's much worse. These days for the most part it's only Samsung that consistently uses the Audience chip in its top tier phones.
Anyway, I care a lot about call quality, so I'd really like the have the Audience chip again. I'm still waiting to see if it's in the Nexus 5. But if I had to decide now, without knowing, that would definitely be a feature pulling me toward the G2 instead.
I would take the G2 because of the battery life and camera performance ... and I'm saying this while I bought the nexus 5

I had both and I'd recommend the Nexus 5 any second. KitKat runs super smooth and I love the looks! I hate the glossy plastic on the G2 and I totally love the soft silky back of the N5. I have been touching it nonstop for the last hour. I might need professional help.

+1 in a couple weeks, there'll be some announcement where this cpu is better than etc etc. Hardware gets better all the time but software more or less stays the same and that's what we as users can compete on. Not on the hardware because something will be better in a matter of weeks / months etc.
If having a good community in terms of rom and kernels as well as receiving the newest and latest android on a stock android experience matters to you then a nexus phone is a no Brainer.

I'm still disappointed with the 2300 mah battery, I would have been totally satisfied with a 2600 mah battery...

/edit: but it seems BATTERY seems ok from One can read from others. but be careful with that Information! people are still hyped to the Max with the new device the may get too euphoric about it.
Hard decision but honestly I got burned hard by the Optimus 2X and anyone else who owned that phone would likely agree with me, it was a solid phone but the software support was horrendous (not helped by Nvidia...). The only reason I got the Nexus 4 was the fact it was made by LG which make QUALITY hardware but lack a large software dev team so as the Nexus is done by Google it was a very easy decision . I wouldnt leave the Nexus series so long as it stays at the price point of £300 as the developer community alone is amazing, so many talented developers working on one device we would never get left in the dark.
The G2 is a better device interms of battery life but for me the device size definitely goes past the perfect spot which is the N4 and N5 (width is important!). Would I have paid extra if the N5 had a stepped battery in it, of course I would as I do want longer battery life but I think the N5 will meet my requirement now as its better than the N4! I think the decider for me if they were the same price would be the developer community as I would go for the one with the biggest following, if the G2 can keep up with the N5 in terms of custom rom android versions then it would be fine and I would be tempted but still would need to hold it in the hand as I think its too wide.
Tough call! Would wait till Jan before deciding on the community personally.
I would get Nexus 5. I don't use my phone 8 hours a day and I don't live in the woods so I have access to the charger most of the time.

Honestly, after Google said they stopped supporting the Galaxy Nexus I'm not that optimistic either. But it doesn't matter to me since this is a Nexus.

possibly because of Qualcomm being the cpu we may get Lucky to get One Last Update after that 18 month.
only time will tell.

Google did say the reason that the Gnex will no longer get updates... Im not a fortune teller but I think Qualcomm will survive more than 18 months.
Either way, once I see that the N5 will stop getting updates, that will be the moment when I root my phone.

And if its because TI is no longer making the chips, that's not convincing, while I'm no developer, TI OMAP chips are much more open than Qualcomm (which is why they are found in a lot of other opensource linux devices) so even if Google receives no help from TI it should still be easier to release KitKat for it than with a Qualcomm device having to deal with more proprietary codes (one of the reason a Nexus 7 factory image was temporary pulled).

Exactly - the reason for the lack of a 4.4 update for the Galaxy Nexus is because TI basically pulled out of ARM chip making and they won't provide support to Google so Google has no choice but to pull out of any potential updates for that particular device.
In time I'm sure you'll see a 4.4+ ROM appear soon enough for the Galaxy Nexus. Hell, if old devices like the Galaxy S can run 4.3 (and it does, surprisingly well, probably will run 4.4 too without a problem) you can be positive that 4.4 will make it's way to the Galaxy Nexus soon enough.
But it's not Google that pulled the plug for that update, it was Texas Instruments...

So I was on the fence for a while going back and forth with the leaks, but I think after the official announcement I'm in. Everything about this phone sounds great. I'm also liking their new ad campaign. HTC's #1 issue has been marketing. Yes the M9 was a miss for most of us on this forum, but that's because we already had the M8 and there was little reason to upgrade. The M9 was in many ways still an excellent phone. I really hope that the HTC 10 + Vive can help HTC recapture the market. The fact that they are releasing a new phone that pushes the envelope in nearly every direction despite shrinking margins and posting a net loss is very impressive.
I can't say with certainty, but I'm very hopeful of the s-off / rooting potential of this phone, even then VZW version. The unlocked GSM model will be able to unlock the bootloader via HTCDev.
As it seems is always the case these days, with everything new we get, we lose some features as well. Let's take a moment of silence for stereo front facing speakers and the IR blaster... add them to the Qi wireless charging we lost after the DNA.
My only complaints with the HTC 10 so far: Facebook will come preinstalled and can't be removed (ugh), and the rear camera sticks out, which is fine if you use a case, but I almost never do, so that's annoying.
Oh, and I apparently the Camellia Red colorway is a KDDI JPY exclusive, which stinks. I have the red M8 and I love it! If I could buy a red 10 I'd be so happy.

I have a feeling S-Off will come to the HTC 10, Jcase had this to say

HTC 10 will be on all carriers except At&t, the unlocked variant will of course work on there still. I am so excited for this device, it has everything you could want in a phone. Sense UI is still great & it being closer to stock is a plus. This & the Galaxy S7 are the only 2 devices right now that have my attention, its either a phone that can be Rooted & Boomsound or a phone that is Water Resistant & has Layers Support.

Thanks buddy, I love my ?8.
I recently dropped it and cracked the screen. So I have been looking for a replacement.
Would like it to be better then the M8.
Being I'm on VZW unlimited. I know Big red is locking all doors. I would like to use my phone with the least possible restriction. Would like the phone to have great community/dev support.

And a built in battery which makes it a totally useless phone for me. My M8 is the only phone I'll ever own with a non-removable battery. Sorry HTC, not for me.
No removable battery or no removable storage card = NO!

One out of two = NO! Micro SD slot AND removable battery = minimum acceptable features.
I may pick up a used Galaxy 4 again and activate it, the M8 is now two years old and the battery life has dropped quite a bit... <sigh>
Removable batteries are not a priority for the majority of users. In all the years I've had a phone I've never swapped out batteries. While I understand there may be use cases that require removable batteries, I've found that portable battery packs solve most use cases. If you must have the ability to swap batteries than I suggest looking at the LG G5.
I like the HTC 10. Seems like a solid upgrade, especially the camera which is now one of the best on the market compared to the M9 being one of the worst. Sense 8, and lack of bloatware seems fantastic for the unlocked version. If Javacard can s-off the HTC 10 on Verizon, that might pull me over! Sense is probably the cleanest, smoothest UI I've used.
I ended up getting a Nexus 6P in mid-march. Love the screen size. I'm holding LTE band 4 a lot better than I did with the M8, and can now get LTE in my basement when I was only able to get 3G on M8.
The 4G issue you were referring to could have been fixed by the last major firmware update, but who knows. Haven't had a problem with mine. Go figure. Every phone has its own personality
Only annoying part is Verizon includes free visual voicemail, but no way to use it (no app compatible) so I keep getting a text for each voicemail. Can be rectified by calling CS and downgrading to basic voicemail, but don't care enough. I may get 1 voicemail every month? lol
I use Google Voice for my voicemail, it's free and much better than Verizon's offering. As an added bonus, you get a 2nd phone number which is great for when you don't want to give out your actual cell to anyone (filtering calls is much easier in Google Voice than through Verizon).
I'll wait until the first or second price drop. Since my m8 just got marshmallow, I'm very happy with it and don't need to be on the latest and greatest. I'd rather have the money in my pocket.
I would love to get another HTC phone but the 10 isn't up to snuff compared to the Samsung Galaxy S7. I was leaning towards the S7 just because of the wireless charging ability and better camera.

I was interested (more so bored with having the same phone over a year) but then I bought my wife a galaxy s7 and I can say for certain other than camera performance, faster charging and specs nothing has changed since 2014 worth upgrading for. For two days I ran app after same app on both with no real difference in real world speed (running stock rooted marshmallow with NO mods) despite benchmarks and specs. Increased resolution serves no purpose other than specs on a 5" screen and human eyes. Both screens look perfect. I guess a fingerprint reader would be nice for people who lock their phone or think it's easier to pull out a phone than bank card (she doesn't use it. Never even been set up).
Point is after real world comparison nothing revolutionary has changed. They aren't even getting prettier and thinner anymore (m8 and m9 look better and thinner).So I bought a skin/wrap and I feel like I have a brand new phone. Pretty sure this is why at some point they stop supporting newer software. From 2014 many people would never need to buy a new phone except for outdated software.

I'm considering the G5, hoping someone will unlock the bootloader. I suspect people with newer phones haven't encountered the battery problems I have with my M8 (my LAST PHONE with a non-removable battery!) which is over 3 years old, the battery was fine until around 30 days ago...
I hit the sack around 11 PM and connect the phone to the charger, I get up at 7 AM and take the phone off the charger. When new, I could often get to 10 PM w/o recharging, recently I have to recharge TWICE during the day and today I noticed the phone won't charge more than 85%!
So now my options are: Replace battery, this involves losing the phone for some days and spending a bunch of bucks or new phone, again a bunch of bucks or buying a used phone from Swappa, again a bunch of bucks all of which would never have happened if I could only remove the old battery and slide in a new one!
I'll definitely try to get it. When ever they decide to release it on VZW. Way worth the upgrade from the M8 . 4 gigs of ram, SD 820, fingerprint, new boomsound/headphone audio, better cameras, 4k video recording, USB C, QC 3.0, a little bigger screen size but without the size of the phone increasing, I assume better battery life.
I stopped by a Verizon store yesterday to play with their display 10. It's a nice phone, but I don't think it's worth the $600-700 price to upgrade over the M8. I like the physical design of the M8 better, not a fan of the chamfored edged on the back or the rear camera bump. For the "best mobile camera ever" I was underwhelmed. Maybe it's just the awful lighting in the verizon store, but the image quality wasn't substantially different. I noticed the 10's front camera is much less wide-angle than the M8's. Moving the headphone jack to the top sucks. Back to the days of wires sticking out the top and bottom of your device. Also, you know how the M8 has that glossy plastic strip across the top, which blends well into the IR blaster power button? Well the 10 has the same strip except it's a soft matte grey plastic that I just don't think works at all. It looks like the original M7 did.
To be honest I'm a bit disappointed. I rushed out to buy the Thunderbolt when it came out, I waited for the store to open to pick up the DNA. Upgrading to the M8 felt like a major upgrade. Going from M8 to 10 though just feels like a slight iteration, gaining some new bells and whistles but losing others. Maybe HTC will get the 11 right, if they survive that long...

Pixel count the image is wider. The m8 only has a 4MP camera while the 10 has a 12MP camera. It shoots @12mP in 4:3. The wide-screen mode is a cropped version of the 12MP and still is a lot more MP than the m8. Also the screen is a much higher resolution than the m8 so the same pictures from the m8 would take up less space.
Honestly the phone is solid. Battery is great. Been using mine for a couple days now.

Got my G5, great phone. I miss unlocked boot loader, root and custom roms but that may come later...
So adios to the M8 forums and THANKS for all the help, advice and ROMs from some amazing devs.
