Galaxy S3 or One S ?

I've been searching everywhere for a comparison thread or video or anything between the T-Mobile One S and Galaxy S3 . I right now have the One S and I am torn between this and the S3, so simple question, what phone do you think is better and why? T-mobile One S or T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 ( we pretty much know the specs)

As always, this is a question of tastes, likes and dislikes.
Looking only at the specs, the S3 is better.
But looking at practicability I think the One S is better.

If you don't care for the money go for the S3.
The benefits of the one s over the s3 are better price, better haptic due to the smaller screen and better touch due to the aluminium body.
On the other side the s3 comes with bigger battery, sd card support, better screen (hd), better cpu and probably the bigger fanbase in the future... Therefore more developers.
I don't use touchwiz or sense so this wouldnt matter for me.

this is what ive been wondering. i have till the 18th to return my htc one s if i dont like it (since i get 30 days to return it here in california). ive had reboots, signal going in and out which has been driving me nuts and wifi calling dropping calls for no reason when i have full wifi signal. also i think the gs3 looks like crap to me and cheap and the htc one s looks way better, but the GS3 does have better features (IMO) then the htc one s.

Bigger screen
HD screen
Expandable micro sd card
Bigger battery and also can be replaced
More ram 1gb vs 2gb which might not even matter
I think the cpu and gpu is the same as the htc one s
NFC
HTC One S:
Much better design and sexier
Camera software is better (i think it is)
Htc sense 4.0 (which i think is much better then touchwiz)
I figure for the money im better off with the gs3 since i paid 250 plus taxes for my one s. but i will see.

Firstly the GS 3 does NOT have a better processor, just because it is "quad" does not mean that it is better
The S/XL/X AT&T/Evo 4G LTE uses the latest snapdragon chip, the S4 dual core krait. Have a look at the benchmarks comparing the GS 3 and the HTC One S and the HTC One X (Snapdragon S4)

Unless you are looking at the version that the USA is getting in which case the GS 3 will then have the s4 as well.
Also just because the GS 3 has a bigger battery does not mean that it is also going to be better
Many factors affect battery life:
- screen size/type/res.
- driver/software optimization for battery
- the hardware that is used especially the CPU
etc.
So due to the bigger screen/higher res, the bigger battery is needed.
From what I have seen (from people who know what to post for screenshots regarding battery life and the required info. ) and heard from a friend (who owns the GS 3), the battery life does not sound that good, seems very average and only slightly better than the X.
Also just look at the atrix, it had a big battery, yet its battery life was terrible.
However, due to the s4 being very power efficient, the battery life could be a fair bit better than the exynos quad gs3,
version.
At least you will be able to get an extended battery though
The GS 3 only has 1GB of RAM as well (USA version has 2GB). There really is no need for any more RAM.
The GPU in the GS 3 is better (the GPU in the GS3 USA version is the same as the HTC one s [adreno 225])
So to sum up, if you want a bigger/better screen, more storage for dropbox, internal and the choice of using an SD card, NFC, better 1080P video recording (camera/photos seems good, but not a huge difference from what I can see and the HTC one/Sense V4 has a lot more features and some of them are great along with a better UI IMO) and a larger developing community go for the GS 3.
Although play with the GS 3 first and see what you think of touchwiz as I personally don't like it one bit, hate the colour scheme, modded apps and feels like a big step down from sense V4 overall IMO. Although touchwiz is tweaked very well under the bonnet.
Also you may find the GS 3 to be too big.

I think the OP is talking about the T-Mobile Galaxy S3 which will have dual core not a quad. Sure it all comes down to preference, would you like to have "TAMPERED" written to your bootloader and documented by the same company that is supposed to honor your warranty ? How bout a VGA front camera ? Maybe the atrocious cut out for the ****ty front camera? How bout poorly designed antennae that struggle to get a signal inside a building ? What about a non expandable 16gb memory device of which only about 10 is free ?
Touchwiz and Sense both hog resources, but TW is much, much lighter. The One S restarts Sense every chance it gets, and has a serious multitasking problem.

Not an issue for a lot of people as some are happy with the stock ROM in its current state and see no reason to root and flash a custom ROM yet as the 1S is super fast and smooth out of the box with great battery life and features.
Also is that not only if you use their method via their website for unlocking or whatever it is?

Is the front camera really that important? Out of all my friends and family that I know who also have a front camera on their android phones, no one actually uses it......
The quality isn't amazing, but it isn't terrible....

That was taken with some light coming in through the window (however, it is very cloudy outside, so it would be much better when we have blue skies)
The "atrocious cut out" There is nothing wrong with it IMO.
On the other hand the notification LED is atrocious and probably the cheapest/tackiest way that HTC implemented it.
At least the entire design and looks of the S is far better than the white & pebble blue GS 3, which looks like a cheap fisher price toy IMO......
Might be built very well and durable (not as durable as the GS 2 by the looks of things though) but there is no denying that in terms of "perceived quality" the HTC handsets especially the S due to the aluminium unibody/MAO process are still leagues ahead of Samsung.

I have had my device since release day and have had no problems with the signal whatsoever no matter where I am, just took these SS when in a shopping centre in the car park level (bottom level out of three levels) and this is my signal with a H connection, which usually results in a weaker voice reception as opposed to a G/E connection:

Not an issue for some people otherwise we wouldn't have even laid eyes on the device just like the others....
Unless you plan on throwing your entire music collection (can use google music as well instead) on to your device along with films etc. then there won't be any problem with storage.
Over 500 photos including lots of 1080P recordings, along with emulator files, wallpapers etc. over 60 apps installed (including games) and I still have plenty of storage.

I have only had 2 reloads of the sense launcher when I was just using pure stock and it was only after returning from a game whilst using the browser as well. I have disabled a lot of sense widgets/apps etc. and use apex launcher, ics browser +, snowstorm weather widget, smooth calendar, APW calendar 4x4 widget, switch pro, and tasks free widget, swiftkey beta 3 and I have no problems with the multi-tasking, or any reloads whatsoever now.
And for the people who are experiencing the "serious" problems with the multi-tasking I am sure HTC will eventually release an update tweaking it or they could just root the mobile and install this app and then set the multi-tasking to what you want:

I have had the GS 2 (on stock ICS) right beside my 1S (complete stock sense) and the 1S was noticeably quicker and smoother in every area that I tried be it browsing, games, loading apps/menus, carrying tasks out etc.
The GS 3 seems to have just as many problems as well, seems to be some wifi problems, screen problems amongst other problems and I am sure as time goes on and more and more people get their GS 3 will see even more posts stating problems etc. just like what it was with the 1S.
No device is perfect out of the box, guaranteed that every single device will have problems, even the iphones, which are suppose "to just work out of the box" have problems with the screen, buzzing in ear piece, poor battery life for a lot of handsets and signal problems as well etc.
And just because people experience certain problems with their devices does not mean that it applies to every single handset there is in the world.....

When OP asks this question here, I assume you ask the same on s3 forum cos you will for sure have most of people recommend one s here and s3 there.
There is no definitely good or bad, or better or worse between these two. Even one s is not HTC's flagship, give it to other brands, it could enough take the crown.
We could only rationally compare the specs and provide personal preference which is so depending on individules. I wouldn't deny that s3 does have better specs in some areas but one s wins in others. And one s has a few issues such as the mao coating chipping off. But it does not stop us loving the phone, rather, it only makes us love it even more cos only when you care your device, you want it better, right? Just like me, I never know what problem s3 has and will have, simply because I don't really care, I am satisfied with my beloved one s and I am pretty sure I will keep loving it since it is almost almost perfect.
So, the best way to find out which one to get, is to see the specs first, then find out any issues with both, especially if there is any deal breaking one, if you still cannot decide, go play with both in your local shops and feel them yourselves. However, I do recommend avoiding black one s cos it has hardware issue, but grey one is fine.
In the end I would say, I lovey my one s! Hope lots of people do the same (of course, try love your one s, not mine )

if you're mad about the reboots and random issues it has when it first came out don't think the s3 is going to be perfect and bug free either cause you're going to be dissapointed if you gave up ur one S for a rebooting brick

Im in the EXACT same boat as you. I got my One S for 290 on Tmo with upgrade and am looking to sell back my One S for the GSiii. The only thing is I have til the end of this week to decide! Haha. If I sell back to T-Mo, will I be able to upgrade again?

Regarding reboots, since release day pretty much, I have only had 2 reboots and they both happened when I was using swiftkey beta 3, so it may have been related to that app due to it being in "beta" stages.....
Haven't had any more reboots since the latest beta version and update for the 1S *touch wood*

yeah u can still upgrade if u return it within the 30 days or whatever days u have. i probably will trade mine back in right before it ends. it just depends on how much the gs3 cost me. i cant stand no micro sd card expansion. i know we get drop box but what good is drop box when ur out and u get crappy 2g? its pretty much useless and so is google music. this is why i would much rather have expandable memory so i dont have to rely on my internet connection. it just sucks to give up such a sexy ass device plus i normally hate samsung and love htc but i feel like im getting more for my money if the gs3 cost me the same as the htc one s cost me. if it cost more then i will stick with the one s.

That is the exact same reason I am considering switching over for. Thanks for the reply, nice to know I get my upgrade privilege back. If you find out how much the GSiii will cost on upgrade, please let me know. I will do the same for you
EDIT: I read Samsung states that the newest device should be 199 with contract (upgrade I assume as well if TMo is good). So same price if not cheaper if TMo does or doesn't have the 50 mail in rebate like with the One S (at least for me in Chicago). I found that on THIS article.

Sweet if its 199 with no rebates then I will get it asap. I paid 250 plus tax and over night shipping which cost me 340 which is kinda to much money for this phone. I sent the rebate in but it can take up to 8 weeks to get my 50

Yeah the size is nice and its 720p which is also nice. I like the expandable micro sd and the removable battery is nice as well and NFC support.

I agree with this post almost completely.....except that I am definately having the data issue. I am hoping against hope that the ghost firmware update will correct this.
I returned mine yesterday and am having the same problem with this second one.
Edit-I think I'm in a fringe/low lieing area. I never get a real good signal, but the indicator fluctuates wildly. Mostly at 1-2 bars or less.
I myself would choose the One S over the SIII. Which I did.
I was a little concerned about the battery but it has turned out to be a non issue. Battery life is superb!

Changed my mind. I am sticking with the One S. Build quality is wayyyy better plus I would have to shoot myself in the groin if I had to deal with TouchWiz, even for one day. It's nice that you can have much more memory, but that's about it.

yeah it does suck but at least there is apex launcher which makes any phone nicer lol. plus im sure there will be a cm9 rom for it somewhere along the way. lol im still thinking about it. i probably wont make up my mind till i see the pricing official from tmobile

Nexus 5 or G2 if they are priced the same?

I can get a 16gb nexus 5 and LG G2 base model for around the same price (give or take 20 dollars) Which one would you choose? My concern about the nexus 5 is its battery life, which the G2 is great at.

Between the two at this exact moment, I'd take the LG G2 personally because battery life is quite important to me in a portable device of most any kind. Reviews show it has fantastic battery life (meaning the G2) and I doubt seriously - considering the size of the battery in the Nexus 5 - that the Nexus 5 will get anywhere near what the G2 is proving quite capable of.
So, for me the LG G2 would be a no-brainer since we know KitKat will be showing up quite soon since the source is available - we just had a 4.4 build created by houstonn for the LGOG which I happen to have, it's mostly functional but I'm sure soon enough it will be 100% to go.

Agreed. If battery is your main concern and the price is similar, I would choose the G2. Battery isn't that important to me though. All I really need from a phone is a full average day on a single charge and I think I will get that from the N5. I get a full day with my N4 on most days, but I run it conservatively.
I have a G2 now, and I get 2-3 days with the G2 and I get 1-2 days with the Note 3.

Another possible benefit to the G2 is that has Audience's Earsmart noise cancellation chip. It remains to be seen if the Nexus 5 will have it, but since it would impose extra licensing fees, I'm guessing it's more likely than not that the Nexus 5 won't have it (Google has to cut corners somewhere, to sell the Nexus 5 for a low price).
Audience's noise cancellation chip is by far the best noise cancellation out there. Much better than Qualcomm's native solution Fluence (which the Nexus 4 uses). The Nexus One had the Audience chip and was one of the first phones to use it. I really miss that. I could be in super loud environments and people thought I was at home. The Nexus 4 has been a huge step down in this respect. After the Nexus One, the iPhone 4 used the Audience chip (and of course everyone acted like Apple invented noise cancellation, even though they were late comers to the game). In any case, it got much praise on the iPhone 4. But it has been dropped from the iPhone 5 for Apple's own in house solution and the (very few) critics how pay attention to this have pointed out that it's much worse. These days for the most part it's only Samsung that consistently uses the Audience chip in its top tier phones.
Anyway, I care a lot about call quality, so I'd really like the have the Audience chip again. I'm still waiting to see if it's in the Nexus 5. But if I had to decide now, without knowing, that would definitely be a feature pulling me toward the G2 instead.

I would take the G2 because of the battery life and camera performance ... and I'm saying this while I bought the nexus 5

I had both and I'd recommend the Nexus 5 any second. KitKat runs super smooth and I love the looks! I hate the glossy plastic on the G2 and I totally love the soft silky back of the N5. I have been touching it nonstop for the last hour. I might need professional help.

+1 in a couple weeks, there'll be some announcement where this cpu is better than etc etc. Hardware gets better all the time but software more or less stays the same and that's what we as users can compete on. Not on the hardware because something will be better in a matter of weeks / months etc.
If having a good community in terms of rom and kernels as well as receiving the newest and latest android on a stock android experience matters to you then a nexus phone is a no Brainer.

I'm still disappointed with the 2300 mah battery, I would have been totally satisfied with a 2600 mah battery...
Better accu? :silly: this forum is filled with Germans , I love when i realize that I'm not the only one who keeps mixing the languages :laugh:

/edit: but it seems BATTERY seems ok from One can read from others. but be careful with that Information! people are still hyped to the Max with the new device the may get too euphoric about it.

Hard decision but honestly I got burned hard by the Optimus 2X and anyone else who owned that phone would likely agree with me, it was a solid phone but the software support was horrendous (not helped by Nvidia...). The only reason I got the Nexus 4 was the fact it was made by LG which make QUALITY hardware but lack a large software dev team so as the Nexus is done by Google it was a very easy decision . I wouldnt leave the Nexus series so long as it stays at the price point of £300 as the developer community alone is amazing, so many talented developers working on one device we would never get left in the dark.
The G2 is a better device interms of battery life but for me the device size definitely goes past the perfect spot which is the N4 and N5 (width is important!). Would I have paid extra if the N5 had a stepped battery in it, of course I would as I do want longer battery life but I think the N5 will meet my requirement now as its better than the N4! I think the decider for me if they were the same price would be the developer community as I would go for the one with the biggest following, if the G2 can keep up with the N5 in terms of custom rom android versions then it would be fine and I would be tempted but still would need to hold it in the hand as I think its too wide.
Tough call! Would wait till Jan before deciding on the community personally.

I would get Nexus 5. I don't use my phone 8 hours a day and I don't live in the woods so I have access to the charger most of the time.

Honestly, after Google said they stopped supporting the Galaxy Nexus I'm not that optimistic either. But it doesn't matter to me since this is a Nexus.

possibly because of Qualcomm being the cpu we may get Lucky to get One Last Update after that 18 month.
only time will tell.

Google did say the reason that the Gnex will no longer get updates... Im not a fortune teller but I think Qualcomm will survive more than 18 months.
Either way, once I see that the N5 will stop getting updates, that will be the moment when I root my phone.

And if its because TI is no longer making the chips, that's not convincing, while I'm no developer, TI OMAP chips are much more open than Qualcomm (which is why they are found in a lot of other opensource linux devices) so even if Google receives no help from TI it should still be easier to release KitKat for it than with a Qualcomm device having to deal with more proprietary codes (one of the reason a Nexus 7 factory image was temporary pulled).

Exactly - the reason for the lack of a 4.4 update for the Galaxy Nexus is because TI basically pulled out of ARM chip making and they won't provide support to Google so Google has no choice but to pull out of any potential updates for that particular device.
In time I'm sure you'll see a 4.4+ ROM appear soon enough for the Galaxy Nexus. Hell, if old devices like the Galaxy S can run 4.3 (and it does, surprisingly well, probably will run 4.4 too without a problem) you can be positive that 4.4 will make it's way to the Galaxy Nexus soon enough.
But it's not Google that pulled the plug for that update, it was Texas Instruments...

As the time comes that most of us who did a 2 yr upgrade are coming up on picking up a new device what is everyone gravitating to?
The waterproofing of the S5 is nice but inability to root is disheartening, the M8 is nice but I'm not sure about it.

I am moving to Sony Z2 for waterproof and style. Its slick lines just make it look like art.
I find the M8 good looking from the front but ugly from the side and back. Something about its big sloppy curved back doesnt sit right with me. The phone just looks fat and bulky.
S5 really does seem like the standout device this year. But I have never wanted what everyone else has. Plus I find it bland looking.

What about the M8 aren't you sure about? Its what I picked up last week, and its a fabulous phone.

The build quality of the M8 simply blows the GS5 out of the water.
The only "pros" I see on the GS5 side are:
- the waterproofing (M8 is still water resistant, just not meant to be completely submerged)
- better photos in good lighting (mainly outdoors, and how much this matter is going to depend on how you use your phone most often)
- much bigger market share and therefore larger community (but with the bootloader so locked down, how much does this matter?)
Side note: I haven't been keeping up with the GS5 root status, so I decided to hop over there and just take a peek before harping on the issue too much (to avoid spreading any possible misinformation). And the situation is bleak, to say the least. I don't think I've ever seen a Development forum section this empty. Even the EVITA (with a locked down bootloader) had some development threads before the phone was even released:

I changed my contract to the no-contract plan AT&T has now and save a lot of money on our bill. On the other hand, I'm stuck with this phone until something worth buying off-contract comes along. Not that it's a bad phone. I just installed a new battery and brand new white housing I got off ebay for under $25 bucks total and it looks and works like new! (better than new with CM11 and some overclocking) Every new phone coming out lately is too big. All 5+ inch screens and I can barely hold this phone with one hand as it is. Oh well, maybe the new Nexus will be reasonably sized.

I had my HOXL for just over a year, thinking of installing the HOX+ 2100mAh I grabbed a while ago.
I still believe the HOXL is a beautiful and capable device (for my needs anyways). Agree that nothing is very convincing at the moment
Could've gone for One (M7) when I got my Evita, many things I didn't like, and definitely the gap increased with M8, it seems after many years with hTC I am going to try something else, maybe until they come back to their senses
As for the size, was in shop the other day and compared my Evita to LG G2, the later is barley taller by 2 mm and wider by 1 mm, 14 g heavier but same thickness, it packs a 5.2" screen with thin bezel, just this is amazing, faster CPU 2. 2 and double ram, whooping 3000 mAh battery, There is the matter of back volume rocker and power button, which I was kinda sceptical to, but wen I tried the phone in my hand I was actually surprised it might be more ergonomical and less finger stretchy than Evita.
Not in a rush, wil wait and see what the rest of year 2014 has to offer.

Wow, just read this ( http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/05/16/lg-g3-leaks-continue-heres-what-you-need-to-know/ ) and the G3 is now my go to device! But the scary thing is...will the devs be able to unlock the bootloader or are the days of seeing talented devs rolling out amazing ROMs and kernals coming to an end?

Personally If I go for it I'll be satisfied with possibility to root and flash custom recovery, both of which didn't seem to be an issue with G2. This should be sufficient for flashing custom roms and kernels. There is good activity in G2 forums though.

I got my Evita last year, March 2013. It's still working ok, no real problems. I'm bothered that basically it's been abandoned by HTC though. I'd really like Kitkat, to use 4.4 only stuff like Google Camera etc.
I'd consider buying something else, but I've found the Evita too large and now all new phones are pretty much larger. I'm checking out buying the Moto G but sadly it's very hard to find the 16gb variant in Canada. I'm also interested in what the Moto X+1 turns out to be...

I'm hoping to get an invite for the oneplus one phone. If I get that, I will surely be purchasing it. if I dont get one before the next nexus (if there is one,) I will be purchasing a nexus. I'm also thinking about going to t-mob no contract. If I happen to renew my att contract, which I am unsure if I want to do, I will be jumping for the g3.

My earspeaker pretty much went out and gf dropped phone a few too many times so I took advantage of the $0.00 total for the LG G2 online at www.att.com the HTC One m7 is also $0.00 at Best Buy but I really wanted the updated processor. I really wanted the m8 or OnePlus One or maybe even the G3 when it arrives but Im too low on income.
Today I rooted it and was about to flash recovery but power went out. Made me super pissed. I was also low level formatting a hard drive at the same time so now I have to start that process over again.
I'd really like to play around with a Sony phone.

I see so many mixed reviews on Sony phones. On the surface they're incredible, the Z2 has amazing hardware, but I've seen heaps of reports of them heating up so much that the screen cracks. Among other faults. And Sony blames the consumer instantly when there's physical damage, no matter what the cause, which I guess I can understand because there's just no way to prove what caused it. But, you'd think after so many reports they might click.

Well, I picked up an M8 and while I'm blown away at how incredible it is, I'm sorely going to miss tinkering on the Evita. I have no intention of getting rid of it though. The Evita was my first smart phone to really get the most out of. I think I flashed and tried pretty much every Rom and Mod worth using in this forum. I'll still hang out occasionally. Thanks for the good times and making the phone 10 times better.

Pixel vs HTC10

Anyone have any experience coming from an HTC 10 to a Pixel? I've got both on order and am looking for opinion.
My htc will never run sense and I'll always run whatever stable AOSP ROMs that are available out there.
I feel that I will miss external sd on the pixel and I have a hard time justifying the extra $400 that the pixel will end up costing me.
Not trying to start a flame war here, I'm a lover. Just looking for opinions....

For what it's worth, I have both phones.
TL;DR:
I bought my wife and I the unlocked HTC 10 at the $500 price to use on Verizon. The next day I became aware of Best Buy's Pixel 32 GB deal for straight $9.99 a month (or $240 buyout like I and others did), and I ordered two. My main reason was because I was coming from a VS985 LG G3 with a Micro SIM and I didn't want to step into a Verizon store to talk them into giving me Nano SIMs to use with my unofficial configuration of using an unlocked HTC 10 on Verizon's network, plus to have to have said Nano SIMs activated via phone since in that case I wouldn't have had an actual Verizon device that was capable of activating the SIMs.
I activated the SIMs in the Pixels and then put them in the HTC 10 and purchased the SunShine license for both phones and jumped through the firmware/ROM hoops I need to in order to have it work right.
First, I'm not on an unlimited data account so to me, using the Pixel with only 32 GB is relatively unrealistic to me. In it's favor, Google Photos only on the Pixel provides free unlimited full resolution not-further-compressed picture and video backups, and also has the feature to automatically clear space on the storage when it's needed by removing backed up photos. This is an amazing feature and would use it even if I had a 128 GB Pixel.
Second, my wife just went without a working smartphone for more than a month, so I sold one of the Pixels and kept the other to play with and to keep as a backup in case one of our HTCs has an unexpected problem anytime over the next couple of years. So far I have only a) unlocked the bootloader with Depixel8 (which might not work now if a Pixel has received the December update before using it) and b) I put the complete 7.1.1 stock ROM image on there.
I likely will not root the phone so that I can take OTAs painlessly. If I were using the Pixel as my daily phone I wouldn't be able to stand it without root and modifications. I'm assuming that most modifications I would want don't even exist yet, and I know that others I currently use don't exist for Nougat yet, like Xposed.
Although I prefer not to have to jump through ANY hoops to use the 10 on Verizon, the fact that there are still little nit-picky preference things that cause me to want to use a stock-based custom ROM over completely stock makes the point moot since I still won't receive OTAs except as provided by the particular ROM(s) I use.
The phone is still a lot easier to deal with than the LG G3 regarding hoops needing to jump through when new OTAs come out, and mix/match firmware caveats/bricks/etc. I could handle the Pixel's 5" screen if I was using it daily but I prefer larger. I really wouldn't want to go smaller than the 10's 5.2" screen.
Both phones feel very well built, the 10 even more so than the Pixel. The Pixel is very...compact. I mean, it's heavy for it's size, but not overly so, and it is solid.
I don't think you'll go wrong overall with either, depending on what your usage will be, what your Verizon plan is like and what your expectations are. I have pretty high requirements as far as convenience so that puts the Pixel out in several ways, but it'll make a great backup phone for my wife and I.

I had the HTC 10 briefly before trading for a note 7 which I sent back to Samsung and now I own the pixel.
I really enjoyed my time with the HTC 10 especially the extra screen real estate and the capacitive buttons. The development is pretty solid if your into custom roms, kernels, etc. The max screen brightness is something lacking but the LCD is not a bad looking panel and it's QHD. I'm a huge fan of the capacitive buttons and dedicated home button on front. I use a car mount every day and if I want to wake up my phone without having to remove it to access the fingerprint scanner or reach for power button and put in a pin. Same applies to when phone is on my nightstand and I just want to open a notification/ check time it's convenient on the front plus you get to use all of your screen with capacitive buttons vs on screen. I'm don't take a lot of pictures but the camera seemed sufficient. Also the speakers sounded pretty good for YouTube and the little bit of music I listened to on it. Only con I really had with the 10 was the screen brightness.
I've only owed the pixel for about 5 days so I'll just say what I like and don't like as of now. The stock Android and frequent updates already make me wonder how I ever survived using AT&T Samsung phones for so long. I've got 2 updates since I've purchased the phone and the development is sure to be good into the future. The fingerprint scanner is the fastest I've ever used as well as all the software. I'm still struggling getting used to the 5in display coming from a long line of Samsung products. I still wish I would've held out for the Xl but the small display doesn't disappoint. The AMOLED is still my favorite type of panel and even at 1080p lookes better than the HTC imo.
Overall I'm happy and excited about owning the pixel and would pick it over the HTC again of money wasn't an object. I was lucky enough that Samsung paid me full retail for my Note 7 that I traded an HTC 10 for during the 2nd recall scare, so I had a little to burn. My 128gb quite black came in at $856 at Verizon with tax. You can pick up the 10 with 32gb and grab an SD card for around $550 or less I'm sure. I wouldn't mind going back to my 10 at all.
Things to consider is how long to you plan on owning, if your going to keep the phone for 2+ yrs I would lean twords the Pixel. That's why I went with it at least, I've been getting a new phone annually or sooner for past 3-4yrs and it needs to stop lol. I plan on keeping the pixel at least 18-24 months and I'm garenteed software updates for that long plus some.
Any questions about either ask and I'll try to answer.

Appreciate the comparison.. that really my dilemma.. I can GET a good deal on swappa for an HTC 10 for like 350...OR i see a guy locally selling his verizon Pixel for 450... so there is my struggle...

For a $100 difference I'd take the Pixel only of 128gb if not I'd go with HTC. That's just me, even though I do stream alot of media I also have around 30gb of music I have collected over the years. I also use my phone for torrents and then otg to an external drive that plugs Into tv. The extra storage is more important to me than a SD821 and amoled.

Hey there. I agree with pretty much what everyone else that has had both phones says. I'm sending my Pixel back tomorrow. Here are my personal pros and cons on the pixel. I got my HTC 10 from HTC direct for $550 tax and 2 day shipping included. Pixel was about $950 for the 128 model plus Pixel care or whatever its called.
Pros
I think the screen is marginally nicer even though its only 1080p
Using the same spigen cases, it felt better in my hands.
The camera is much faster and takes better pictures with no fuss
It felt faster but i think much of it has to do with Nougat and not 820 vs. 821 (My HTC 10 runs cm13 now. Looking like we are really close to cm14.1 now though)
Cons
No external SD. This crushes me. My biggest fear is that if your phone gets damaged, you loose everything thats not backed up rather than just removing the microsd card and moving on. (Nandroids, Pictures etc...)
Its too early for development to be great. There's only one rom so far. I feel that the price of the pixel is keeping developers away too. I couldn't get the pixel to do what I wanted it to in a few ways due to lack of roms + xposed etc... The thing is, this phone will likely have excellent rom support in the future, it will just take time. Might as well wait until it gets cheaper and supports the customization you want.
While my Pros outweigh my cons, there is no way I can justify spending another $400 for any two missing pros. This is how I arrived at my decision to return the Pixel. I might mention that I wouldn't keep either phone more than a year or so as I like to try and upgrade annually. Ordering from HTC direct gets you one year of replacement protection free stateside. Google charges $100 for two years. There was also value in the HTC over the Pixel for this reason. Something to consider as well.
Hope this helps. Having to decide between the two over the last few weeks offset a fair amount of anxiety. (First world problems, i know). I feel pretty good about my decision and am looking past the pixel to see what Snapdragon 835 devices have to offer. Its right around the corner.

I have both the HTC 10 and the Pixel.
Aesthetically, I prefer the HTC 10. I've had more people ask me about what phone I was using when I was using the 10 as my daily driver than any other phone I've ever owned. The chamfered edges have a way of catching light that just draws people's eyes to it. That's not to say that I don't like the Pixel, but the HTC 10 just seems like it's in a world of its own in terms of build design. The only person who commented on my Pixel said to me, "That's the weirdest looking phone I've ever seen. It looks like a weird iPhone."
I also preferred the sound coming out of the headphone jack and dual (top and bottom) firing speakers on the HTC 10 over the Pixel's setup. Blocking the sound coming out of the Pixel's single bottom firing speaker is just insanely easy, and I find myself contorting my hands awkwardly in order not to block it when I'm watching media or playing games.
I also liked the HTC 10's fingerprint scanner location and the off screen buttons better than the Pixel's setup. That's just a personal preference though.
If you're worried about receiving timely updates on either phone, it's a non-issue. The amount of OTA updates on the HTC 10 has also been seriously fantastic. I've never had any phone that has consistently gotten as many updates as the HTC 10. It honestly makes most brands look like a joke, and I'm still waiting for my first update for my 10 while my HTC 10 just received Nougat.
With that said, there are a few things that are far superior on the Pixel.
I prefer the AMOLED screen on the Pixel for outdoor viewing. The higher contrast ratio seems to make viewing and reading a lot easier, and it also feels a bit brighter than HTC's LCD screen, which could be extremely difficult to read in direct bright California sunlight. The Pixel is not the brightest screen I've ever used, but it's certainly a lot brighter than the HTC 10. This always bothered me about the HTC 10 since I spend a few hours a day walking to work or in direct sunlight.
The camera on the Pixel is just amazingly consistent for the most part. The HTC 10 has this weird lense flare issue where if the camera lens is even slightly smudged, it creates the most insane lens flares I've seen, and whatever material is used on lens of the HTC 10 is just absurdly prone to fingerprint smudges. It's also really difficult to wipe it off entirely. I'm not sure if this issue has been remedied with the Nougat update, but there are some posts floating around on the HTC 10 forum indicating that the lens flare has been significantly improved. The Pixel, even without taking into consideration of the HTC 10's lens flare issue, just seems to be an overall better camera.
It's also significantly faster at snapping shots than the HTC 10.
I also generally find my wireless connection better on the Pixel. Battery life on the Pixel also seems slightly better to me.
I bought the 128GB Pixel so storage has been a non issue with me, but thinking back at it, the only time storage might've become an issue on my 32GB HTC 10 would've been when I went to Europe and loaded my phone with media for that 11 hour flight. Otherwise, 32GB with non-expandable storage would still probably be fine for me. I only bought the 128GB since 64GB wasn't available for the Pixel.

I had HTC 10 and actually 2 of them (Unlocked and T-Mobile variant). HTC 10 is a pretty good phone especially at the lower price. My unlocked unit received Android 7 on Nov 25th , so there were no complaints and software was faster than any Samsung phone I had. The build quality was also good, as was the audio experience. Unfortunately I had to return the devices because this phone had/has an issue with mic not working in some situations during normal phone calls. I did many test and found out something interesting. The transition from Band 4 to Band 12 where the signal of Band 12 drops to -101 dBm or more, then people on the other side couldn't hear me. I would be completely satisfied with HTC 10 and wouldn't buy a Pixel(didn't receive it yet, but should get it next week). I am personally kind of concerned about the issue I have described here because Pixel was made by HTC. Does anyone know if there are mic issues(or experienced this) that I have outlined here?

I sold my HTC 10 after using the 5" Pixel for two - weeks hands down smoother and better device. Camera rocks and the wight is hands down a seller. I actually bought a back up Pixel as well.

I like the screen on the pixel better, and it seems faster (more responsive ui). However the 10's speaker was way better.

I currently own a HTC 10, and i have it since 3 years. I plan to get a new phone, and i can't decide which one. I was thinking of U12+, but i can't try one as it does not exist on any electronic market physically.
Do you recommend HTC U12+ on 2019? What are your experiences? Is it still fast after new updates?
How are the side buttons? I am worried most about those.

It's a good phone, but there are better choices. It's all about how much you want to spend and strangely, the U12+ is not significantly dropping in price.
The button issue has been largely solved directly after release, though there could be points where they are unresponsive, likely to block out erroneous touches when there's extended periods of pressure on them, like in a case.
The cameras are still among the best you can get and that, imo, is why you would buy this now. GCam makes it better, but doesn't work on the tele lens. I mostly use the stock app, as it works really well.
As for sound quality, it's tops, but one needs to deal with the USBc issues that are not unique to HTC. The fact thst there's no wireless charging makes the phone rather annoying at points. If I were buying and we're not talking budget, I'd just spend 900 Euros on a Snapdragon S10 5g.
The s9 plus might be a better option if you want better update support and wireless charging and a headphone jack. This is at the expense of cameras not as good as the u12+.

I've done your step one year ago and if my HTC 10 lasted longer I would do it now.
I really miss the alu body of my HTC 10. I don't use any covers and this glass back is not for me, but it's okay.
I can recommend the U12+. It's really fast and I don't have any negative aspect. Maybe the buttons. Sometimes they are a bit tricky.
The UI of the HTC phones is really good and I hope that HTC decides to launch new phones in the future. Don't want to change the brand

Well, the phone is really nicely manufactured, seems robust and feels great in hand (apart from being slippery). Question is whether its non-trendy look bothers you.
As for the side buttons, I've never had any problems with them. I really like the firm sensation of touching them.
However, I can't say a good word about tapping the pressure sensitive sides. It either doesn't work or works when not intended.
Squeezing works 90% right, sometimes getting stuck and not reacting to pressing really hard. In such cases I need to put down the phone and grab it again.
For me, the worst part is the software support. The Pie update was a joke, the security updates were a joke and I don't expect to see Android 10 on that phone. If you want new features in OTAs, then don't consider this phone.
All in all, I feel like there are better choices but coming with some trade-offs. I wouldn't have bought it again and settled for sth else, maybe hardware-wise worse but with better support.

Depends on the price you find, it's still a top-notch phone a year on, that's a testament to HTC's engineering team.
The phone was very fast already and now it's even faster with Pie, at least based on my past day so far. Battery life is now phenomenal with Pie, yesterday I got it off the charger around 7AM and after a regular day - w/ constant but medium or more use - I still had 15% after midnight. Also, support was great, they replaced my broken glass in 3-4 weeks.
Before the Huawei-mess I'd have said the P30 Pro is a better choice, mainly due to its camera, but with the current uncertain future of Huawei and the lower price of the U12+ I'd just buy this again.

I was in the same boat a few weeks ago and finally pulled the trigger on a slightly used HTC U12+ for $430. It's a big upgrade over the HTC 10 and good value at that price but I wouldn't recommend it. The buttons are a pain, poor software support from HTC, limited developer support on sites such as xda, and edge sense is more likely to annoy you with false initiations than provide you with any sort of meaningful usability.

If only i would had the chance to have check the phone physically, that would have been perfect.
I am really worried about the side buttons. And i cant understand how HTC have done this.

I bought my U12+ this year for around 420USD, brand new. This is the current selling price in Southeast Asia for the 128gb version.
If you're an HTC fan, I will definitely recommend you to buy this but there are so many options out there worth your money.

I am kind of an HTC fan. I had Htc Mega as my first device, which was runnin Windows Mobile.
Later HTC One M8, which was a great device and i had it for 3 years.
Now i am using HTC 10, which is also a great phone with a good built quality.
I planning to change the device mainly for speed and better camera.

I was also considering Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but after a brief search, i see that people are complaining about the screen problems. Especially that the screen turns green after a while.
Same goes for LG phones. Screen ghosting seems a standard issue.
Never liked Samsung, without any reason, just like that
I love the quality of HTC built phones. I wish that they launch a new flagship.

Camera is awesome especially compared to anything in its price range, it's a steal for the ~$400 others mentioned here.

If for the cameras, then you are making a good decision. I photograph professionally and use my U12+ for light carry duties and have had numerous publications with it.

If you haven't already bought it, I suggest you don't.
While it's a great phone at its price... It will lack longevity.
The phone is around 1.5 years old now - And HTC is already slow with software updates... Android 10 support on it is currently a gamble.
The HTC version of Android is also lacking in some key functionality compared to AOSP - Most notably lack of Navigation Gestures, lack of new Multitasking/Recent Apps screen, No "Users" support.
The best features of the phone truly are its audio quality and its camera quality. Everything else is on par with the competition, making it a great phone at its price.
But its software is lacking and its longevity is questionably.
Better yet, if you don't care about the camera, you could buy a much cheaper phone which doesn't have as good audio, but better software support and spend the difference in a pair of good headphones, and/or a set of bluetooth speakers.
Such as OnePlus, Xiaomi, Nokia, Oppo etc...
If you do care about the camera, you're stuck with Huawei and Xiaomi to get cheaper phones. Though OnePlus 7 Pro makes an appearance in DxOMark's top 5.
The OP7Pro in fact is probably the best recommendation I have for you at this moment in time, in the UK retail price is £649 for the 6GB / 128GB configuration.
That is £50 cheaper than HTC u12+ original launch price, but with a better screen, better camera, better processor, better software support.... Who cares is audio is worse, buy a decent pair of bluetooth headphone and loudspeaker and you've got a phone for the next 4 years.

How much did it cost to replace the glass? Mine's shattered and I've heard it's really expensive. Can't decide if I should repair or just buy a cheap phone

Great choice!!!!! I never have any issues with the buttons and my 12 Is the greatest phone ever HTC has the best android skin by far you don't need the new navigation bar! You couldn't have made a better decision!!!!

Attention where you have repaired! the best choice is direct from HTC! I had a screen replaced by a reputable repairer and back more sound! back again there the sound is OK, but the screen badly fixed and the edge is cracking! Expense of 300 € for nothing !!!
