HTC repair is **** - HTC One S

I've sent my phone in to Htc for repair 4 times because every time it comes back to me it has new physical damage done by the repair engineers. I just got my phone back yesterday after it was showing some white lines across the screen but they weren't able to see the damage, now i'm asking for a replacement. I'm totally frustrated with this, its been going on for over a month now.Is there anything i can do to convince them to give me a new phone? Has this happened to anyone else?

That's why i try to never send the phone to "assistance". It happened 3 years ago with my nokia. I was forced to send it back 6 times!! Every time is came back with various damages made by stupid repair engineers. The 6th time, after talking with the "boss" of the offcial repair center, he was able to get me a replacement. But guess what. The re-used the same plastic cover they opened and slaughtered for months..half victory, but phone cover full of aesthetic damages...

Yeah I won't send it in again unless they give me replacement.
I was thinking of getting insurance and claiming after a few weeks.

Yep I wouldn't trust them, after I bricked my sensation I tryed calling HTC to see if they could repair it but they wouldn't give me a quote or even a ball park figure, they wouldn't even give me a eta on how long it would take. The only thing they told me that the postage would be free. I never sent it in the end lol. Silly ****ers

How did you manage to brick your Sensation? lol

After trying s-off it lost its imei number and reading stupid tutorials on how to fix it and me being very impatient it went south for the winter here's a pro tip for you guys, if the guides not on xda, don't use it. It worked out in the end tho, my gf took it to the shop that I got it from and cried for a bit and they replaced it for an XE

mine came back with a scratch once, was fine the second time

If HTC don't give me a replacement would contacting T-Mobile be of any help?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app

well that's why they let you unlock the bootloader via htcdec so they know that you've voided your warranty. its worth ago giving t-mobile a call but i wouldn't be holding my breath.

I was told by them through email is that if u can get the phone back to stock with locked bootloader and everything is still working warranty is still intact I was gonna send in my 1s for Chipping but didn't their customers service sucks never buying another HTC

Please my htc one x does not display and it doesn't light up either I need a jumper for the display ic and backlight inductor or suitable alternatives cos d ic of htc one is not sold singly in my area. Please can any one help?

Isn't the one s screen a AMOLED display?
Sent from my HTC Desire C using xda app-developers app

Or just yolo it like I did and break off a SIM tray pin. Then they will be forced to give you a new phone or motherboard.
They sent me what appeared to be a brand new phone, locked bootlaoder, no scratches, no dents, damage. with new water damage stickers stickers and new IMEI Number. Or I just got lucky....
EDIT: IN NO WAY AM I RECOMMENDING YOU CAUSE PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE.

This is the the one s forum, you should've posted under the one x forum. Also the one s has a super amoled screen whereas the one x has a super lcd 2 screen.

if you have insurance with tmo, then just claim it as lost. You're not going to get a new phone when they have hundred of refurb'd ONE S' they could give you.

[Q] Question about Sending in my Sensation for Repair (Dust Problem)

Hi guys, like many others, my Sensation has the problem with the dust underneath the screen. I called HTC today and set up an RMA. I'm all set to ship it out, but I wanted to know if when they fix the problem, do they replace the entire screen assembly (glass, digitizer, lcd) or just clean the dust off the existing screen and put it back together with the same parts?
Bump.
Also, would I be able to get T-Mobile to replace it (even though I have AT&T) or if I gave it to a friend with T-Mo, could he get T-Mo to replace it even though neither of us are the original owners?
Why didn't you just ask them those questions while you were on the phone with them?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
That's actually a good point. I guess I didn't think of it then . Well I called them up and the guy said that they would attempt a repair first and only replace it if necessary, but that seemed like it was a typical response read off a script or something. In any case, I sent it for service and will hope for the best.

Warranty void from physical damage?

So my WiFi signal is unreliable and I also get the "Restricted Access Changed" "preparing SIM" messages daily and was thinking about calling ATT for a warrantied refurb.
Problem is, my girlfriend dropped my naked HOX a couple weeks ago and I have a small, but deep ding/gouge on the top left corner of the phone about 1/3 the size of the front cam hole. It's just cosmetic, but probably obvious that it was dropped since it would need quite.an.impact to make a gouge as deep as it is.
Any experience with HTC warranty? Will they screw me
? I can't afford to get charged for the refurb.
PS, I did not dump the gf.

Only water damage will void a warranty for damage
if 95% of the phone is in good shape and the screen doesn't have any super noticeable scratches, one ding will not matter to at&t warranty. They replace the casing when the phone gets reconditioned anyway.
In fact, i tripped and tossed my phone tumbling down 20 sidewalk blocks. Other than some big gauges by the power button, it looked fine. I sent it back to at&t due to a dead pixel and they never said anything.
I had to send my Nexus One in because it would constantly heat up and reboot. It started happening after I dropped the phone and I let them know that I have kids so, yes, its been dropped. They ended up replacing the mainboard and I didn't have to pay a thing.

My replacement is on its way. During phone call I just said there was no physical damage. I'm getting nervous about this as I cannot afford to pay if they void my warranty. Considering just refusing delivery of the replacement to avoid a bad outcome.
Anybody else with similar experience?

If they already shipped it back to you without discussing and cost, you should be free and clear of any monitary obligations. When I sent my N1 in I had to keep calling to see when it was coming back. Then one day I called and was told it was already in the mail. I asked how much it would be and they said that they would have called to confirm I wanted it fixed if I had to pay.
If the same holds true for you, awesome!!!

Insurance fraud is also an issue. :-!
Well I'm not one to commit fraud.but I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time it has happend. Lol
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
First off, this is a warranty claim (after 30 days) and not insurance claim. Also, it was done through ATT's advance exchange program where they send you out a refurb, then you send them back the defective phone. Once they receive it they determine whether or not warranty is void.
Anyway, I took the phone to a ATT warranty center today just to ask them if they thoughty.warranty would be void. The kid who worked there said it would be ok as long as the screen wasnt cracked. I'll take that with a grain of salt, though, as he seemed to be not so sharp.
good luck! Hope everything gets fixed up and doesn't cost you a dime!
Thought I'd update this old thread.
Mailed the unit back to ATT back in July. To make it worse, I retardedly dropped it unto a blue USPS mailbox around midnight on the most humid ~100 degree day if the year. I was ****ting bricks that the water damage sensor might go off from the extreme humidity.
Apparently it didn't, everything turned out ok and I have not heard from ATT since.
Sorry to bring up an old thread. I was wondering if you could provide a picture of the damage done to your phone. Thanks!

[Q] Water damaged insured Sensation, what will happen?

Hi
About a month ago my senny fell out of my training bag, and spent a night out in the rain. When I got it back, it seemed to work fine, until I discovered a few things:
I had to charge my phone 3 times a day
I could not hear the other person when I spoke to them in the phone
It does random shutdowns/reboots about ten times a day.
I have a insurance that follows my sim, and I'm thinking about returning it. If I return it, do I have to return to stock/s-on, and if I return it, what will they do with it? Fix it? Replace it? Send me another phone?
Thanks!
If they discover it's rooted they will deny your claim and blame rooting for the problem. So you have to go back to stock. Someone more knowledgeable about returning to stock can help you with that .but I'm positive it must be done .unfortunately .then it's up to your carrier to decide what to give for replacement. It could be another sensation, your sensation repaired, or another device they consider comparable. Likely it will be another sensation. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you!

I'm pretty certain they will not cover an damage whatsoever if there is evidence of water damage (meaning that little white moisture indicator turns red)
Doesn't matter what the damage is, they will deny warrenty due to water damage.
So unfortunately, you are probably screwed. You can call HTC or your phone company and ask (I'd leave out the part about rooting, even though there are many many reports of peopl ewho've sent a rooted phone in who got warrenty repairs no questions asked, but not with water damage) and quite frankly that's probably your best option right now. Get REAL answers, not our guesses.
But be prepared for them to say you have to buy a new device or pay for repairs out of pocket.
Sorry, bro.
Actually I had the same problem and By myself can change the digitalizer and the upper electronic without any problem, the process is so easy and Youtube is full of how-to videos.
I can reapir my sensation for 70 euros.

Warning to those with T-Mobile Warranty

Last week on Tuesday I decided to get a warranty replacement, now... I'm well aware that these are refurbished phones and that they can be damaged, etc. T-Mobile, however, assures you that they are to appear "Like-new". Well, the device came the next day as promised and what do I see? 10-12 dead pixels and... spotting behind the screen... like WATER DAMAGE! At this point I'm thinking... "Wtf T-Mobile?" So I give 'em a call, they tell me they'll send out another and that they are sorry for the inconvenience... Well, this time Friday rolls around and the delivery comes... I grab the box and get ready to open it with my Partner, jokingly I say to him... "Let's see how messed up this one is!" and I open the box... Well, the second one they sent has a LARGE chunk out of the MAO in the bottom left corner of the device... like it had been dropped. I'm pissed at this point... I call T-Mobile and because it's a defect in the "hardware" I had to take it down to the store to get a rep to verify that the device was damaged (also still in the warranty box they send out) and at this point they take $25 off my bill and offer me yet another warranty replacement!!! UGH!! So, the new one is coming today... If it's messed up I am demanding that they send me a new one. I'm so upset at this point... My device I sent to them to begin with was damn near flawless other than (from what I could tell) software issues.
What do y'all think? I'm starting to believe they don't even perform these so-called "Quality checks"
Been there done that I had to go through 6 phones. they offered me a brand new Galaxy S 2 . But it's backordered so I decided not to do it

If I even get one more messed up one I'm gonna make them give me a new One S... I bought this phone, I'm sticking with this phone. They WILL give me a new one. Heh. Also, I came from the GSII... Don't do it... the DPI is weird and everything is HUGE on the screen. Lol. I didn't like it mainly because with the default TouchWiz roms you can't change DPI or the UI is all diff sizes and messed up... Now... On custom CM10 roms, etc you can change DPI and it looks amazing at like 200 DPI or so... but back then the bugs were too much to stay on custom roms.
Went through these with my wifes amaze. I demanded a brand

what are you going to do if they tell you to go pound sand?
I don't understand why you are warning people about their warranty...they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. I understand the frustration of having to keep getting a replacement, but at least they are cooperative and doing it. ..sounds like a good warranty to me.

they sent me 4 defective replacement sensation 4g's until i demanded a comperable android replacement... after a couple of other rep's and explaining to them why a nokia lumina is not a comperable device then asking for a supervisor they sent me my One S free of charge, I offered to send my sensation back but they didnt send a box to return it in.... Thats a Win in my book. I did have to call back twice to get them to take the charge for the One S off my bill, which they did
Yea, I've never had an issue with T-Mobile warranty...that's how I got my One S...I had a Sensation, then complained enough, and they upgraded me to the One S at no charge. It might be a pain to go through numerous phones before getting a good one, but you can't beat the fact that they overnight you a phone with just a simple phone call, great service.

Agreed. Doesn't make any sense. You would figure that since he's on XDA, that he'd try to flash a new ROM, reflash the original, etc, to get it back to normal.
Then again, some people are hardcore about not wanting to touch their phone's ROM. I on the other hand, am absolutely disgusted by HTC Sense and all the fancy pants bull**** it has. Simplicity, minimalism, and speed are where it's at.

It stopped saving screenshots (not a big deal) however, it shortly after started saving all photos taken with the camera as 0byte files. NOTHING fixed it. I even put the phone back to S-On and unlocked, re-rooted, redid the S-Off... Nothing helped. Kinda useless if I can't take pictures. I also tried many different roms.
Also, the warning was to say that if you need a replacement... make sure you can deal with going through 4-5 before you get one that is fully intact. The last one they sent me (#3) had the screen popping up out of the device. You could see the button backlights fron the side if you looked at it, got yet another coming tomorrow.

Bricked. P4 got nuked. Was on 1.09.

There was an Evita Unbrick thread that died months back and I was curious if any new methods have been discovered for fixing phones that don't enumerate their partitions and are stuck in QDL.
Today I fat fingered an update from the terminal emulator. I stuck TWRP 2.3.3.1 in P4. Aaaand I'm never using terminal emulator again. It was a really busy day at work and I was totally not thinking about what I was doing. It was one of those moments where you're staring at your phone thinking "oh my God what did I just do". All this so I could try out the new CleanROM that doesn't work in 2.5.0.0. I haven't failed this hard since I put the power connectors on wrong on a pentium motherboard. Don't judge, I know at least a few of you guys did that too!
I doubt anything new has been discovered since I wasn't able to uncover anything when searching, nor could I find much on the RIFF Box (not like I'm actually going to rip it apart and JTAG it or anything). HTC wouldn't quote me a repair cost just "send it in and we'll see if it's covered under warranty".
If anyone has any info they can link me to it would be much appreciated. I may just have to send it in to HTC and hope they're feeling generous. Honestly though if they want me to pay $200 to replace the board I'll probably just say no. That's pretty poor customer service when they could be fixing these for a reasonable cost.

That's why I won't send it to get it j-tagged. Paying $60-100 to have someone else crack open my phone and take a whack at it v.s. seeing if HTC will be reasonable about the repair. I love HTC. Their phones are awesome, their customer service is extremely friendly, it's just their repair practices (from what I've read from others) that may leave something to be desired. I did read other posts of them fixing it under warranty when the people told them straight up how they broke it like I did, but then others ended up paying for a new mainboard. HTC can totally fix a bad flash without replacing hardware. If they wanted to be real nice they could release those tools to the community.
I dusted off my old EVO (running SOS ROM) and I'm using that in the mean time. One X on Straight Talk > EVO on Boost. Phone still runs like a champ though. Except for the water damage to the screen from putting on a skinomi. I had one of the first EVOs where they didn't seal the screens right.
Worst case scenario if they want too much to fix it I use this as an excuse to buy a RIFF box, crack my phone open, and probably destroy it so I can convince myself to buy the One X+ or whatever AT&T calls it. I just realized I have passwords and what not that would be sitting in the open on that phone if I sold it and someone managed to fix it without destroying all the data, so my idea of selling it for parts went out the window. I have to either repair it myself or let HTC do it, or destroy the phone. I'm a geek and I love tampering with things as long as I don't think I'll totally break it. I've messed with my phones, my PCs, and my car. I modded a wii, a PS3, and an xbox 360 just for the fun of it even though I don't play console games. It's an addiction.
HTC will bill you just for sending the phone in even if you choose for them not to fix it.
