Remove brightness slider / Add Wifi toggle to stock TouchWiz Jelly Bean - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I created a mod to get rid of the brightness slider (I use auto-brightness 99% of the time) and added back the Wifi toggle that I had in another mod that was for ICS. Here's a screenshot:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So the mod only involves:
Adding the Wifi toggle
Removing brightness slider
Changing the padding around the 'No notifications' text (it gets funked up after removing the slider)
Removed useless e911 location icons from showing up in status bar
That's all that was done. Just unzip the file and drop SystemUI.apk into /system/app, change permissions on the file to rw-r--r-- and then restart and you're good to go. You have to be rooted obviously.
This has been tested on latest JB leak VRBLK1.
I hope others might find it somewhat useful. Thanks.
Edit: I've moved on to adding a blue theme to this original mod which can now be found here. I'm sorry about the multiple posts. Moderators, please feel free to delete this post if you catch this.

What file manager do you recommend. I have never moved a system file.
I tried this with ghost commander, and it will not let me over write a system file
Thanks

I may be missing it- but I don't see a downloadable file and/or link. Also, if you just want to remove that annoying slider (I too use auto 99% of the time), do you have a mod for that, or know where one is? Also, I'd like to keep the green, but I'm not picky- I just want that darn slider gone.
Let me know.
Thanks

Is there any way to make this work on an SII? (E4GT) I have scoured XDA and other sites looking for a mod or hack to remove the slider for my model, and have had no luck thus far. There are many different toggle mods I've found out there, and yet none of them put in an option to remove or edit the brightness slider.
I am still amazed by this, because personally I think it is the stupidest add to JB, and even more idiotic that there are zero setting options to enable/disable it. I did see that in a recent update for the SIII, they added this option, but still no one has adapted it for the SII yet. I too use auto-brightness, so the slider is worthless to me, and it takes up a third of the space in the notification bar when you drag it down- poor design and zero functionality for me.
I've posted a question in the E4GT Q&A section twice about a mod for it and not one person had anything to offer one way or another. I guess I'm just really surprised there is little discussion and even less progress on this.

Cool! Thank you very much for support!!
Love tha theme u and Doc should work together ;-)
Updated to Cyanogen 5.0.3
this is the coolest theme ever .i love it
Cool... thank you for the flowers...!!!
Know I know, that it is the right way to put my own themes to the world wide web.
It's nice to make somebody happy with it!
Only problem for me is that when using apps like the Browser where the background is white, you can't see the text on the statusbar :\
I'm getting FC on the Market during installation in MetaMorph. SMS notification icons don't get updated. Tried it on fresh install of CM. Anyone else getting this issue as well?
Do I push this somewhere or apply it in recovery as a .zip?
Sorry, new at this.
Hi,
at first, the market FC is normal by changing some things. Nothing matters, click it away.
The sms is icon is still in there. If you unzip this theme, you see a folder called "Mms", there is a folder named "res" and in it is "drawable-hdpi"
In this folder is the message icon. If it isn't there.....
I've changed it yesterday.
@mortzz:
This is no update file for recovery.
This is a metamorph theme. Install metamorph from market, put this file here on SD Card in the folder "AndroidThemes" The rest is quiet easy as looking on screen, understand what the Metamorph app says and only do it.
Update:
From now with

Just noticed my issue. I am using TracballColorNotify 1.0beta3 and the program replaces the icon with the stock.
Anyway you could incorporate the morph to include changing the icon in the TrackballColorNotify apk?
Do we still have the issue with the white notification bar in the browser and gmail etc.?
You can't change the white statusbar on browser and gmail and market. Sorry.
This is not only a picture to change.
At trackball notify thread there is a link to a vresion with a modified notification icon. Is that, what you mean?
I can't do this in an metamorph theme. Then, everybody without that app becomes an failure.
I did it so:
I've downloaded the statusbarnotification app, opened it with 7 zip, put my sms notification into it and signed it new.
I don't know if I can share this version. I can ask lilhermit for permission if you dislike the notification icon on his app.
Nice, a wish from me though is that u can add and see the date as well in the status bar...can this be done?
Yes, we can! ;-)
I've released a new GlasStatusBar which can that exactly.
I think you've found it here in forum.

You can opt to skip adding morphs to each item the morph touches. This will allow you to add the option to morph trackball notify leaving it up to the user to either opt in or opt out for the change
Even if the user leaves it on without the app installed, the morphing of the rest of the items will succeed. I always remove a handful of stock apps that morphs look for (email.apk for example) and have yet to have one fail.

remove clock from notification bar-how do i?

been trying to figure this out. i really want to remove the clock from the notification bar on top--i hate seeing to clocks on my phone. i don't need to see the clock ever on the notifcation bar.
any way to remove it? i don't want to theme my whole phone, just the clock.
i've been searching at came up with nothing. thank in advance!
guess its not possible huh.
Been waiting on this one myself... I really see no purpose of having 2 clocks on the homescreen. I really DONT need it there at all.
I wouldn't mind reclaiming that chunk off notification bar space myself.
Posted by my rooted EVO 4G
closest option would be to use Launcher Pro, it can hide the notification bar altogether on the home screens.. this will eliminate having to see two clocks on the home screen and you can still tap menu to peak at the notification bar when needed
this was done on the hero and i do not see why it cannot be done on the evo as well? id also like a vanilla lockscreen with no text. hopefully a dev can sort this out.
It can be done, just no one has done it. I removed the battery icon from my taskbar because I use vader's battery droid widget. I also removed the GPS disabled icon because I see no point in showing an icon for something that is off. I'll poke around and see if I can find the damn clock.

I'm not deleting my clock because if I'm not on the home screen, then the status bar clock is the only clock on the screen.
The new CM6 nightly rom has an option to remove the clock from the taskbar

Unfortunately simply removing the battery pngs only removes the battery icon, it doesn't shift the icons over Anyone know how to completely remove it from the task bar? (and no I don't want an entire custom ROM for this) I suppose while we're at it remove the clock as well from the otification bar as several people would like that as well.
Anyone figure this out yet??
As someone above posted, the CM nightly will do as you ask.

In the OP it suggests trying to reflash with the other file too, might help you out. After i put a custom launcher on mine, it seems as fast as before I upgraded.
Yea I put launcher pro and it helped but the Droid X keyboard kept FC when I tried to load it and i had to flash it again

I have noticed that is does Vibrate More than it used to. I see there is an option to change the strength of it now
Here is a direct download link from my server for Froyo : http://filehostonline.com/files/1/SCH-I500_USCC_EA11_REL_ROOT.tar.md5.zip
where do you adjust the vibration? the only thing I found was adjusting the vibration for the haptic feedback. nothing else. my phone now vibrates longer for notifications than I want.
I also found that launcherpro helped, although the phone was no slouch either. Battery life is much better for me.

Remove recent apps from notification pulldown

Hello all,
Big thanks to everyone involved in root/s-off.
With root is there any way to remove the 'recent apps' from the notification pulldown?
TIA All
I would also like to see a patch of some kind that replaces the recent apps with a on off bar..
+1 that recent app bar is so annoying
+2, add power widget options in instead!
Definitely needed!
I will never understand why they put the Recent Apps there when you can get to them by long pressing the home button.
There is a workaround until someone does this, not the best solution but it works.
In the market there is an app called Power Control Plus (it is a paid app) that will put the toggles in your notification area but it doesn't replace the Recent apps.
yeah, the toggles in the pull down are one of the few things I miss from the Fascinate I have. Another being the convenience of being able to drag left or right on the notification bar to quickly change the screen brightness.
I'm working on Rosie and Framework mods right now and this is on my list. I removed the recent apps from notification on a custom Hero ROM and will do it to the Tbolt. As far as adding the switches, that's a whole other story. We would have to port JsChiSurf's Evo work and I think I'll just wait until someone ports a Gingerbread Sense ROM, which has the switches in a tab.
Does it actually have to be ported or could you just rip the required framework elements from an evo rom and copy them to your tbolt framework?

I imagine the dependencies are different, so things wouldn't match up properly.
Question here: I too find the recent apps feature useless and liked the pullldown toolbar in Slayer's mods.(my personal favorite) I assume a mod like this could be ported or created?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Just getting rid of the Recent Apps would be an improvement until someone gets this done.
Another thing you might do if you can figure it out, one of the Z roms for the inc had the Verizon Wireless banner made about half the size it is now. It looked better and took up far less space.
Even better if you could remove the banner entirely, I think we all know we are on Verizon!
Here is a screen cap with "Power Control Plus" It's a paid app but usable, now if we could at least get rid of the recent apps.

I tried widgetsoid but I didn't like the fact that when you click on any of the toggles it dissapears. If I want to cycle through a toggle (for instance "Brightness") you have to bring the notifications down again.
Maybe a setting I was missing but that's how it worked for me.
Yep I would be happy with the recent apps removed and using widgetsoid or something for toggles.

Recent apps gone, along with some other mods here. Now on to JsChiSurf's power control mod and Lockscreen mods.

Get rid of GPS "crosshairs" in notification bar

Hi guys,
This should work on a rooted phone using stock rom.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So I didn't even notice that this icon just sits there for no real apparent reason and found it to be a nuisance, seeing as how the information it intends to show is pretty useless.
So I changed SystemUI to look like this (this is a screenshot in landscape mode). No more GPS crosshairs:
It's cut off in the image, but the last two toggles will be "Mobile data" and "Sync" on the far right.
100% credit goes to MAD Industries and the packages that he uploaded to this thread. It was one of the first mods I even tried when I first rooted. Killing the gps crosshairs was on his to-do list and was sad to see that there weren't any further updates on it.
Rather than completely delete those crosshair images from the SystemUI package, I just edited the opacity of those images in Gimp so you just don't see them.
Just drop systemui.apk into /system/app
SystemUI will start freaking out and force close repeatedly. Just reboot the phone and you're good to go.
I know this is a ridiculously minor mod, but I was thinking if I had been searching for it, then maybe I might be able to save someone else out there some time. I'm one of those folks that hasn't yet jumped to a stock rom like CleanRom, Synergy, etc.
Thanks.
Nice!:good:
If you don't mind deleting the icon (or saving it elsewhere), here's a writeup:
Disclaimer: Do not attempt this if you don't have a nandroid backup and/or are not comfortable flashing your phone if you brick it. This method alters and replaces crtical system apk files. If you've never used ninjamorph, well then you need to go read. I'll try to answer questions and help.
In ninjamorph:
open a project with systemui.apk, then exit ninjamorph
In a file browser:
go to sdcard\AndroidThemes\workspace\SystemUIapk\res\drawable-hdpi\
delete stat_sys_location_on_2.png and stat_sys_location_e911_2.png
Edit: I just figured out that you can delete files within ninjamorph. So the steps where you delete files from within the file browser, well you can just do it all in ninjamorph and save time.
In ninjamorph:
finish the systemui project
Once it is done, immediately hit power and reboot the phone. If you don't do this quickly before something uses systemui.apk, then the phone will freeze and you'll have to battery pull. After the reboot, you should be AOK and without those annoying GPS icons.

Thank you so much. I was looking for this. Works great.
Very glad that I could be of some help.
DUDE! Thank you so much for that write up! Been dying to get rid of that icon!
This also added a wifi on/off button in the notification bar which I wanted. The downside is that the data button is now at the end of the right side but not a big problem.
Deleting the file gets rid of the Icon but the space in the noti bar cannot be filled by another icon. So you cant see it but the space is still filled. Any way to fix this?

I notice that too, but I only notice it when the 'smart stay' icon pops up.
What other icons are there to the left of the gps-crosshairs/location icons?
As far as I know, MAD mentioned that completely editing out that area of the status bar takes a lot of work, smali edits, etc.
The other alternative may be to resize the .png files to a 1x1 pixel image and see if that helps, but I don't have much time to give that a try today.
Just tried shrinking the png files to 1 pixel in width. Doesn't work. The space is still reserved but again, I only notice it when the smart stay icon pops up. I drive myself crazy over a lot of things but not going to with this lol.
It would be nice to just turn this "feature" off and reclaim a little screen real estate.

When I was on stock I was able to delete it without any ill effects like the space not being filled again. I used ninjamorph.

No I didn't find a fix, I restored and have been living with it the crosshairs.
