A chip or ding in the RAZR HD MAXX frame? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all
I love my phone, but I noticed this morning a little chip in the black frame surrounding the display. The chip is not on the glass front, it is on the black edging. Anyone else have this? I've only had the phone a week, a bummer that this is already happening and I haven't dropped it or anything...

Yup same here. Sucks ballz.

Damn.
Also, have you noticed that the metal bands around the phone are not flush with the black Kevlar? That they are recessed?

Nah...mine is flush

RETURN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it's really only been a week, and that is the only damage to the phone (as in, its clear that the phone has not been dropped and the chip you mention is clearly not your fault)...RETURN THAT SHNIT!! You paid good money for a brand new phone and if you are within 30 days of purchase you should have no problem returning the phone for a brand shiny new one with no chips, dings or scratches.
If there are other marks on the phone, and it looks like you dropped it, you might not be able to return it. But its worth a try either way. I mean, you're basically stuck with the phone for the next 2 years, unless you wanna drop another ton of money on a different phone soon. So why start your 2 year term with a chipped phone?
Just make sure you act quickly because after 30 days, and in some cases 14 days...you're screwed

Is it about an inch and a half up from the bottom on the right side?

Weird. Maybe some underpaid Chinese worker dropped it during inspection and was scared to report it. I think verizon is gonna blame you for it.. but worth trying anyhow.

Dust under glass? anyone else have this problem?

picked up 2 Nexus S on release day, went home happy. Preoccupied with work, so I only powered them up last night.
To my Surprise, both phones have dust under the glass! WTF Samsung? Removed the plastic sheet on the front to make sure, and yes, it's under the glass.
on one phone the dust was smack in the middle, while on the other phone it was a little left of the middle.
Can't be seen on a dark screen, but once you switch to a white background like the web or texting you can see it.
I know I am probably being OCD and anal about this, but heck I paid over $1k for both phones out of contract.
Went back to BestBuy and returned them promply, of course now they are sold out, and I have to wait for the next shipment.
Just wondering if others have similar experiences? BTW, I also had a Galaxy Tab and before returned it, it also had some dust specs under the glass...
I also own an HD2 and G2, seems HTC is better at QC.
Shame, really want this phone but WTF samsung?
Nope you sure its under the glass?

No dust under the screen here.
It seems that this first batch of phones is a rather mixed bag; some have defects and others are fine. It was a good idea to return them, hopefully your replacements will be free of issues.
My first S had a little speck of something. I initially thought it was a dead pixel, but I could see it when the screen was off also so I assumed it was dust. I returned it and checked the next one out before I left the store and it seems to be good.

100% sure, remove the screen protectors on both of them and rubbed the area where it was, thought it was a dead pixel too, but no it was fine on a dark background, but on a white background could see it easily.
sold out at my local bb, but still available online might go that route.
just wanted to see other people's experiences or maybe they didnt notice yet, lol.

this happen when you have 2 layers for the screen. the internal part and the upper part where you touch.
there is an advantage for this. if god forbid you dropped and broke the screen, only the upper part gets replaced. and wouldnt cost you much to do so " and you wont get another screen with dead pixel and being OCD whatever the new screen is good or not. because the actuall inner screen isnt touched.
the bad thing about is what you said. dust can enter in the middle between both layers of the screen.
even if you get a new nexus S without dust under the screen, if you leave it in the open area with sun and wind always hitting it, you will get a dust somehow inside as well. so make sure your phone is in a pocket most of the time.
the only phone i remember right now that had both layers of the screens touched as 1 part is the iphone 2G and the iphone 4 " i am sure there are others but i dont know "
this result to no dust under the screen no matter what " unless the dust came from factory while they were attaching both screens on top of each other and glue them "
but if you break your screen in the iphone 4.... god help you.
Yeah, after about a week and couple of days of usage, I've got my first spec of dust in the top left area of the screen. Really, it's nothing noticeable but I do have some sort of OCD with my phone (god help me if I get a visible scratch on the screen).
I don't think it's really worth taking it back to get it changed as this Nexus S I have currently has no problems whatsoever, I don't even have the pink or yellow screen issue with this one. I think I'm just gonna have to live with that one spec of dust for now...
I think this may be just bad QC. I looked at ifixit taking apart the NS. Basically they said the trickiest part to the disassembly was the screen, and they had to use a heat gun to soften the glue just to separate the 2 screens. So dust entering between those 2 screens would be pretty difficult unless the glue wasn't properly applied from the assembly line.

I don't have dust under my Nexus S screen... but I do have dust under my front facing camera! And its only recently just got there - I remember playing around with it extensively when I first got it 6 months ago and the camera was really clear and sharp.
Now it is all fuzzy and white haze. And I can see all the dust particles on the underside of the glass. Annoying!
Anyone know if there's an easy way to clean it? Or is it a case of back to Samsung?

[Q] Dust under the screen!

Love the phone, but the dust is really annoying me. I have 3 specks which are really noticeable when i'm outside.
I ordered it online to be delivered instore. Has anyone else been able to exchange a phone instore if they ordered online with Vodafone?
Don't think I can be arsed to arrange a return only to have the same problem or worse. I would rather exchange the handset instore so I can check it before I leave.
Sorry to put a downer on things, but it's really bugging me now
That's why I never pre order, i rather buy it from tmobile corporate store so i can check everything.

Wow HTC phones still have this problem? My Nexus One and MT4G eventually got dust under the screen and it annoyed me to no end... like it or not dust will eventually find its way in if there's a gap.
Samsung fuses the screen to the glass so no dust can get in but it makes repairs more costly (since you have to replace both at the same time, but warranty should handle that).
hmm this is not good. Please report more cases of this. I returned my G2X because of this very reason. 2/4 of the units i had, had this issue.

actually from what i know, the desire s and incredible s are also with dust in some of them. so i think maybe u have to accept it though its annoying. eventually the dust will be there.
If I cant get it replaced instore, I will most probably stay with my Orange contract and upgrade to the Samsung GS2 next month. Will work out cheaper too.
I am torn though as the Sensation is a lovely piece of kit.

Thats not acceptable for me unfortunately. I had an iPhone with dust underneath which I got swapped out and it has been dust free since
still lucky
under my incredibles screen i found a rat
what happened to HTC's amazing build quality??
Hi folks. Just registered to let you know that I also seem to have dust under the screen of my HTC Sensation.
There seems to be just one speck, but it is very noticeable. On white backgrounds it nearly looks like a black apostrophe or comma. On colours such as the light blue part of the default wallpaper it is a bit less so, but still plain enough to be seen on pretty much any colour, except black or really dark shades, if one looks a bit closer.
Mind you I am a little bit less upset than initially, when I though it was a bunch of dead pixels in the LCD. I only figured that it was trapped dust, when I inspected it holding a very bright LED light close to the location of the speck while the screen was auto-locked/gone to sleep. Then I tried while powered off. I assume that on a phone that's off, dead pixels don't stand out from other pixels under bright light, hence my conclusion that it must be dust.
My phone was bought from Vodafone's (Ireland) online store.
Same problem here.
Same dust problem here .I just noticed it and my phone is beeing used for 3 weeks.
I have just had my Sensation replaced which managed to get dust underneath the screen as it was quite visible and really annoying as I initially thought it was a dead pixel. My new sensation which I recieved this Monday has also already managed to get specks of dust under the screen. Athough these are not as visible I guess it is a common problem and will have to just deal with it !!!
unfortunately I too have dust under my screen.
having been using it for 3 weeks , I don't have the dust problem as yet, but for those who have dust inside the screen, where the dust goes in ? (e.g. from the headphone jack, usb charge port, etc) just wonder if we know where it get in, any precaution we may take.
Just noticed dust under mine. Never got dust in my G2 and i had that thing way longer than Ive hhad this.
I've got the same problem. After about an hour of use I noticed it, although it could have been there when I got it. It's not too noticeable as I've put on a screen protector and that's got a speck or two under it because I suck at putting those on.
The dust has come in from the right hand side about 1cm up, so not near any ports.
Not sure that it bothers me enough to take it back, but if more appears, I may be.
Having the same problem with HTC Sensation 4g - Dust under the screen
I have the HTC Sensation 4G from T-mobile and I am having the same problem. It started with a speck, then it got gradually worse. I have only had the phone about 6 weeks, but it's bugging me to no end.
This is a known manufacturing defect guys. There's a whole nother thread about it in general section. Htc knows about it and if you contact them they will replace it, including sending a prepaid slip with it for the return is the defective unit.
The defect is some sort of crack between the digitizer and the screen on the right side just above the midpoint that let's in lint and dust and junk....

Just got off the phone with tmobile, told them I had dust under my screen, they asked if I dropped it in water, idk what water and dust have in common but, there sending me a new device with express shipping so ill get it tomorrow. And they said "its a known defect and HTC has since fixed it and the new sensations they are sending out won't have this problem." Idk how true that statement is but one can only hope.

I’m on my third Sensation the current device has been back twice, and I’m still waiting on its return...
Originally returned 25th July – Eventually got it back 9th August. Less than a week later I had to return it for the same dust fault. It’s now been 15 days and there’s little or no news on its return.
By the looks of it they are replacing the digitiser and LCD, as they did in the first instance...
If this is a known problem to HTC they sure as hell are taking me for a ride.

Screen almost falling off? [SW2]

Hi there,
I have the Sony Smartwatch 2 since it was just released.
I ordered it via the Sony website, so it was delivered from Czech.
Anwyays... the Smartwatch 2 worked pretty fine for me so far.
Unfortunately, I experienced something strange yesterday.
Yesterday I noticed that the on/off button wasn't working properly anymore.
I wondered how this was possible, and then I noticed that the screen was a little bit lifted out of the case.
I could push the screen back in place, and the on/off button worked fine again too, although it seems it comes back up a little bit after a while.
I have seen this before in a video where they showed the watch at a conference, so it seems to be a common issue.
Does anyone have this too? and what did you do to solve it? Because I would hate to send it back.
Right now I'm actually waiting till it comes off a bit more, so I can place a little tip of glue beneath the screen (if there is a safe place for that beneath the screen), so it won't lift up again.
I had it too.
I put a little pinch of glue in the rear of the watch and all is good now.
its not the screen lifting. The actual watch hardware is glued into a frame of the wrist band. The glue is simply coming undone.
Yep, I've been able to completely push the watch out of it's frame.
Used some glue on the frame, and pulled it back in.
Let's hope it stays there now.
The glue that was on it already propably became loose when I took the watch under the shower?
Although... it should not do that, because it's waterproof.
Them problem as with mine, I got the watch off my arm and the clock pops out off the holding

I've been under the shower for a few times with it, so it's definitely waterproof.
Although, that the glue came loose might be the result of that.

This is definitely BS. I shower with it every single day and didn't have any problem at all.

Maybe if you shower 50 minutes with boiling water... I repeat, I think I had like 60 showers with the watch on (and even pressing the power button or tinkering with the screen to change song etc.) and zero problems.

Not BS. I just received my replacement watch. I felt the original vibrate, looked down, and watched the screen fade out. Never to come back after 4 days of drying it out with a small fan on it.
I am rubbing silicone grease in the cracks and charge plug on the replacement. I ride a motorcycle year round. I need some water resistance and my first one had very little.

It's my first Sony device, so it's not a good device to impress people who are new to Sony hahaha.
But I love the Smartwatch though
SONY is for target practice. You spend about $750 on their latest technology and then have it work for about 2 years at the most, then put it up on a pedestal to play target practice with your new .9mm. You get to vent the frustrations of buying such an expensive and overpriced device and promise yourself you won't do it again.
When they talk about cheaply designed, overpriced, Chinese assembled items on Black Friday, they are talking about SONY.
I saw posts before about screens popping out, but thought it was just that and hoped it wouldn't happen to mine
wish I had read this topic before, I have the exact same thing, this build quality is REALLY poor
seems this is happening to quite a few people, I think they used the wrong glue
would certainly explain why the watch isn't waterproof for everyone
I have a problem with my watch, I broke the screen and I cant find the replacement, if you have a unusable sw2 maybe you can sell me the part that I need, please PM with any response, thanks

Does your phone have a slight curve/bent?

It's been bugging me a bit today as I noticed that this thing is not only very flexible and has those infamous hairline cracks on the sides, but it's also not entirely straight when looking at it from the profile. I mean, if you put it on the flat surface screen facing downwards, the middle of the screen will have a couple of mm clearance and won't touch the surface unless you apply mild pressure to it. Is it just me or is pretty common and nothing much to worry about? Cause you know, I just got this phone, and if something is terribly wrong with it would be great to know that.
Yes. The top half of my phone is slightly twisted. I actually noticed it a few weeks out of warranty.
Yep, the top half. Added poll to make this easier.
Mine is bent too.
Sold my white Nexus cause all the scratches and wear on the back/discoloring were starting to annoy me (had that phone for a couple of weeks or so). Now the new (used) black one which I bought several days ago isn't visually bent at all, I wonder if this happens mainly with white models.
PS. In case you are wondering, the demand for them nexuses in my local 2nd hand market is pretty high, so yeah it's easy peasy to sell one.
My white model is warped a little. Bothered me for a while but since this phone was the result of an rma I didn't do anything about it in case I got another faulty phone.

1 drop = completely dead touchscreen

One of my clients just informed me that a crack on the top left of the touchscreen of his S7 Edge caused the entire touchscreen to be completely inoperable. The entire screen was flickering like crazy. BE WARNED. I have not heard of anything like this before. Touchscreens are usually usable even if the entire screen is cracked.

Duh...
It all depends onthe way the phone falls. There are no proven examples that screen A will always survive because iti s only cracked a little and screen B will go dead at whatever conditions. Only probability and nothing else.
Lol sent from iphone.
Mines dropped and cracked on the back and a slight crack in the corner. touchscreen still works fine ... no worries tho my insurance phone will be here tomorrow yay ???

It's possible on any device. Like mentioned above, chances are that the way it dropped (force, speed, angle, etc) damaged the hardware and that the screen crack as nothing to do with it.
All in all, be careful gents, devices aren't indestructible

So I guess the moral of the story is, don't drop the phone, Of course nobody ever plans on dropping their phone. But if you are trying to say that if you drop the phone then the screen may break, and if the screen breaks then the touchscreen may fail, that's not news to anyone.
mine drop, still got case on...still work fine....lol
Should be more careful.
I once dropped my s7 edge and only once and it stopped working completely. I'll remember next time I'm 30ft up to secure my phone better. Can't believe 1 drop and my phone won't power on geeez Samsung must be making low quality phones now.I BLAME SAMSUNG

Lol, not every single phone will be exactly the same, and the goes for any and all manufacturers of anything. My first S7 Edge I dropped like 5 times at waist height, a few lower, only a few cracks on the back glass and a few dents on metal edges. Not once did the front glass get scratched or dented thankfully. I ended up exchanging it for a new one since I had GSP and the MFG warranty. Granted I preordered mine and the way Best Buy had to do the GSP plans on those pre orders meant no matter what was wrong with my phone I didn't have to pay for a new one. Got an Otterbox Commuter case and my new ones been flawless I love Samsung. I've already swam with it in a 9 ft pool and no problems since. Granted like I said above, any company who makes anything, even electronics will unfortunately have some that can't take as much abuse since these things are mass produced.
what?
-_-
gotta be carefull than using this phone and don't forget to have an insurance for your phone.

My phone slid off a table that was maybe 4 ft high and caught one of the stabilizing bars (that connect table legs) on the way down. Entire screen cracked, mad flickering.
This is a very delicate phone. I have dropped smartphones before (without a case) and this is the first one in my history (starting with the original iPhone!) that got any serious damage from a fall. The other three people I know who own an S7e all cracked theirs in the first 3-4 months too. A case is a definite must.
As someone that works in this field, I lol'd. Its usable if you didnt crack the LCD or Digitizer. For simplicity sake lets say there are three layers, the glass your finger touch, the digitizer right under it, then the LCD. You crack either of the bottom 2 layers, you got a non-working phone. You crack the top glass, put something like tape or tempered glass over it, it'll work just fine.
me 2.. I will pay around 300 euro.
Your phone drop dead,?
You guys are also talking about dropping glass phones. Sure it's technically a plastic glass composite material, but they will crack with enough force. Like I said above, I dropped my first one like 5 times without a case and only got a few cracks on the back glass, the front has hit the ground at waist height several times and it never cracked which really surprised me that the back cracked but not the front. I definitely would get a case. The Otterbox Commuter case is really nice because it's tough but still slim enough for easy entry and removal of your pocket. And yes insurance plans like Best Buy's GSP is definitely a must for this price point.
Same happened to mine, a couple of low drops (1 bounce) with no external damage.
The display turned green and eventually died.
From the way the support centre answered, it seems that they have high numbers of this problem.
