I just get my unit and it is 2nd hand. The previous owner has modded it with custom JellyICS ROM.
I prefer more the local version(Malaysia) official ROM, and wanted to unroot it to be able do the OTA update.
Can someone guide me to unroot this SGNote10.1?
And I have a few question.
-What disable the OTA update? (The root, recovery or any other conditions?)
-What is actually the difference between the official ROM of different country?
Thanks for taking time to reply.
Flash malaysia stock rom using odin...
It will lose the root...

You can find stock roms at sammobile.com. Flash the correct on to your device (in download mode hold volume down + power button) using odin. After flashing hold volume up + power to get into recovery mode and clear date + cache.
But before unrooting make sure to run triangleaway.... This will reset the flash counter to 0....

Hey guys, my phone has downloaded the official OTA and I would like to upgrade using it.
Where can I find the stock recovery image?
If I flash a stock ROM I would have to wait till the OTA comes again, right? So I would like to only fast boot flash the stock recovery. Is this possible?

You don't need stock recovery image to apply the update. Just the stock 2.3.6 rom
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
You can manually flash stock roms in stock recovery never having to wait for the official to arrive by going to recovery in fastboot mode and when you see the android guy question mark hold volume up and power buttons then you'll have the option to apply the update.zip make sure your stock rom is named update.zip
BEST DAMN PHONE BECAUSE WE HAVE THE BEST DAMN DEVELOPERS!
Hey guys I've been on sprint for six years and I'm switching over to Verizon now. I have the s3 for Sprint and my s3 for Verizon is coming on Monday. I've been trying to catch up on the Verizon one so I can open it up and root it. My questions are how do you boot into recovery? I've seen volume up, plus home plus power (same as sprint) and then I've seen volume up plus down and power. Which one is it? Also once cwm or TWRP is flashed does this phone have the scripts that will re flash the stock recovery? On sprint once we got root we had to delete two scripts in /system so our custom recovery will stick and won't be erased, does Verizon have this? Thanks guys and looking forward to flashing with you all

Vol. Up + Home + power will put you into Recovery
Vol. Down + Hole + power will put you into Download
As for the recovery, I just flash CWM via odin and completely replace the stock recovery.
Also I can't stress this enough UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER! If this doesent get unlocked you will brick your phone and you'll have to odin back to stock.
Use EZ Unlock 1.2 to unlock the loader with a press of a button. Don't use 1.4 for its broken.
You can find the APK in the development section.

I'm curious about this part as well. I've noticed a few people who have the latest VRLG7 update have mentioned their custom recovery doesn't stick once they root and install it.

There were two scripts that needed deleted on the Sprint GS3. Look for these two scripts and see if they are present. I can't look cause my phone won't be here until Monday.
System/recovery-from-boot.p
System/etc/install-recovery.sh
These two scripts caused the custom recovery to be overwritten by the stock recovery on boot. So once the phone booted up u lost cwm or TWRP recovery. In order to fix this we had to obtain root and then rename or delete these two files and then flash recovery. I was just curious if this phone had that problem cause I haven't seen it mentioned in the forum.

it will not overwrite the recovery
No it will not overwrite the recovery. You're safe.
My nandroid backup was made after rooting, so after a restore from cwm (I was on jb deodexed) I was still rooted. I flashed a stock image from sammobile with Odin from PC and I lost root (that was my intention). All my apps and data are still here, did not lost anything. No wipe no cache clear nothing else. Binary count 0.
I want to be sure that when jb ota is released I'll be able to install it from the device without any issues.
Do I have to do anything else? I read in some posts that I have to flash the stock recovery, in others that the stock recovery is flashed within the stock firmware so I'm not really sure. Is there a way to verify?

try booting into recovery by holding down the power and volume up button at the same time until it starts to boot then release the power button and keep holding the volume up. This will boot into recovery and there you can tell if it's stock or CWM.
It's stock. After the nandroid restore from cwm when I wanted to reboot I was asked if I want to keep cwm or to restore stock, and I choose stock. I think I''ll do a wipe and whatever I can from the stock recovery. I'm just bored....

yeah and if all else fails when the update comes and you aren't able to get it then you can just factory reset and odin the stock firmware and then all should go smoothly.
I already did that
The red triangle in the stock recovery is normal?

Use TriangleAway to get rid.

+1 it's worth the money to always have that as an option, just make sure you follow the directions (pretty simple)
It was the first thing I did after flashing the jb. As I stated in my first post, everything is ok on my device, I just wanted to be sure that I didn't miss something and that I'll be able to receive and use future OTA updates. I guess I'll have to wait to be sure, no point in making a tutorial on this yet.

i recently rooted my device (gt n8000) using root inject method with a 1gb download by max on this forum.
i installed the european version and from that tutorial i learnt i only got root not clockworkmod recovery.
i want to install the updated unofficial jelly bean 4.2.1 as seen from this link
alaxy-note101-n8000-android421-jellybean-cyanogenmod101-official-417872.htm
but i will need to have cwm recovery to do that.
my question is do i unroot and reroot using cwm method or can i install cwm recovery directly without unrooting? if yes please how and where can i download it. Thanks
Root has nothing to do with CWM, CWM is a custom recovery which will replace the stock recovery.
Just download the latest version and install it using ODIN. Remember one thing uncheck autoreboot when you are flashing CWM and then before you start the note in normal mode boot into cwm by pressing power+volumeup button.
Once you do that copy the zip file on your sd card.
Also remember you will need to do a complete wipe and hence will lose all data so make sure you do a nandroid back or a titanium backup
what am trying to say is how do i install clockworkmod recovery on my rooted note 10.1.
You need to download ODIN
Install all the drivers on your pc (if you have kies installed it must have done it)
Download latest CWM image file
Start ODIN on you pc
Boot into download mode by pressing Power+volumedown key and when u see the warning sign press volume + key
Connect you Tablet with Pc using the usb cable
load the img file by clicking on PDA, make sure you uncheck autoreboot, and all other options around it then click on Start it will flash cwm
once you do that it boot into recovery mode
The other way is to download rom manager or install it from google play but it is a paid app
Remember though that the flash counter will increase so you will need to run triangleaway app after to reset counter.
I tend to find though that triangleaway works but when the tab resets, using the JB rom, the flash counter goes up to 1 again...
MobileODIN will also flash a recovery perfectly well... and it WON'T trip the flash counter.

Since i actually rooted using a rooted injected ics firmware....When i update to jellybean via OTA will the root be gone?
i actually prefer the root injected method

It goes up to one again because you are using custom recovery if you used cf root method you will get the original recovery back and the counter will not rise to one again

Hi.
I rooted my Note 8010 using Zedomax' method. All has been fine. My note has now downaloded the JB OTA update, but it fails to install.
I assume I need to restore 'stock' recovery to install the OTA update? But where can I get this from.
Also will installing the OTA remove root? And will Zedomax' method still work to re-root after applying the update.
Regards
Installing the OTA should not remove root but if it does just use the exynos abuse patch app to root that is the simplest and safest method.
Thanks Samir_a
Do I actually need to restore stock recovery? If so, where can I get that?

Ok I ran the CF auto root to restore stock recovery.
But now I have downloaded the ota update 3 times, and on clicking install it fails immediately.
Previously it rebooted into CWM recovery.
Any ideas what's wrong now? I'm guessing I can download a full update and flash it another away, but I assume that will erase all settings.
Try to flash via odin or if u r rooted use mobile odin . Im now on jb 4.1.2 i flashed my note via mobile odin in 5 min
Thanks mexman_2010.
However if I use odin that will trash my settings won't it?
Is there no way of getting the ota update to work?
You dont need to retore stock recovery or fiddle with odin. Just use kies on your computer and it installs the update for you. All your data should still be intact after the process but it is recommended to backup first
Keep in mind that updating using kies removes root
The ota's are using the patch method;
effectively what they do is work out the difference between the new binaries and old binaries and just send a patch that changes the old into the new.. this is done to keep the ota as small as possible I presume.
so if the binary isn't identical to what was shipped with the rom its trying to update then it will have to fail, otherwise you'd end up with an almighty great mess of non booting or corrupted devices.
if they used the file method (complete apks etc like an cwm style zip) then it shouldn't matter, but as it is, the only way to ensure a patch will work is to make sure the files are identical to what the patch was generated against, root allows you to change system files, so root is the primary way of checking if the system has been altered.
ergo if you want otas then you're most likely going to have to run them from a stock rom.
Thanks for all the info guys.
Bizarrely though, having left the Note overnight. It downloaded the OTA update itself and this time when I clicked install it worked perfectly, so
all is well again.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Please every one. I need help with my n8000. Currently i am on stock ics rooted with zedomax cwm installed. Is it safe for me to install OTA update or can i just switch back to my stock recovery by flashing it through odin? I have downloaded the stock recovery so im waiting for your replies

Why don't you just install the latest version from sammobile with Odin or Mobile Odin instead of using the complicate way?
Can i revert to stock recovery by flashing through odin and still keep root?

Yes you can do that, install stock recovery using ODIN, you will need to use triangleaway to reset your binary count though.
Also make sure the stock recovery is for your devic
