Hey guys, my phone has downloaded the official OTA and I would like to upgrade using it.
Where can I find the stock recovery image?
If I flash a stock ROM I would have to wait till the OTA comes again, right? So I would like to only fast boot flash the stock recovery. Is this possible?

You don't need stock recovery image to apply the update. Just the stock 2.3.6 rom

You can manually flash stock roms in stock recovery never having to wait for the official to arrive by going to recovery in fastboot mode and when you see the android guy question mark hold volume up and power buttons then you'll have the option to apply the update.zip make sure your stock rom is named update.zip

I really hate to do this, but i've searched for a while now and can't seem to find anything that matches my situation.
i'm on stock 2.3.4, but rooted with a different kernel, boot image, and a different radio flashed. I realize that i'm not going to be able to install the update directly from my phone, but I can't seem to install the signed update file through cwm or the stock recovery I just flashed. cwm fails with a status 7 error, and stock recovery won't even let me bring up the menu to manually install the update.
i'm just wondering if I should flash a stock rom with recovery and then try to flash the update that way, or is there some other way that I could do it? I don't want to lose any data from my phone, and I would flash the full 2.3.6 rom instead, but I can't connect to the download link in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664.
once again, I really hate to do this, but I am pretty much stuck right now.
thanks

Hi,
I'm currently using Koush's ICS Alpha 11, I've downloaded the official 4.0.3 version and tried to rename it "update.zip" and flash but it fails.
I'd really appreciate any help.
Thanks!
Did you go back to stock 2.3.6 and flash in stock recovery

Oh, so I should download this:
Android 2.3.6/GRK39F/UCKF1 Radio/KA3 Bootloader
Official, signed, can flash with ClockworkMod or stock recovery. Contains recovery, radio and bootloader.
... rename it to update.zip and then back into CWR and then ICS?
Download stock 2.3.6 and flash it you will loose clockwork mod.you have to do this to apply the official
Rename it to update.zip
In fastboot mode go to recovery and select it with your power button
When you see the android question mark hold up and power again
Choose apply update.zip and bam your done
I forgot get voodoo ota root keeper from the market and run it before flashing the stock rom
Good luck and keep ne posted

Can't seem to find FULL stock 2.3.6 for nexus S, some links floating around the web are just the update packs (around 12mb), not full.

There's a stickied post right here on the forums (this forum, in fact). It has every OTA released.

You do not need to go back to stock recovery. Do it all from cwm recovery.
Full wipe and flash the 2.3.6 from
Flash the ota file.
Reboot. The reboot into the os will flash the stock recovery

Hey guys, I'm in a similar situation too, I'm on Carbon ROM and I was waiting for a Stock update. So is there any way that I can update and keep the root? Because I think when I'll flash the stock 2.3.6, I'll lose root.
ok so I went back to 2.3.6 stock, and susprisingly I didn't lose my root/cwr or anything, then I went into recovery again and tried installing update.zip (which is ICS official stock) but the same error:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
When you go back to stock you need to do a wipe.

I did wipe partition as well as cache. let me try again though.
Format everything but sdcard. Flash the official 2.3.6 T-Mobile rom. Flash the official ota update for said rom and your good. You would have to have a the 9020t model of course

How do I format? from PC? delete everything from the mounted usb volume?
From cwm recovery. Mounts and storage. Just DONT format your sdcard. Your backups are there.

I don't have clockwork anymore. I see limited options now, and the title on top is "Android System Recovery <3e>", but I do see an unlock icon when the phone boots.
You need to reflash clockwork from fastboot. When you load a stock os it overwrites the recovery

I have no clue how I did it couple months back, can you please point me to a guide that shows how to flash cwr on 2.3.6? many thanks
What rom that is on the phone does not matter . You just need to get your phone recognized on a computer with fastboot. Then flash the recovery from there. Or just boot the recovery directly from fastboot.

Does anyone know if flashing the stock recovery here will work to get OTA updates with the ICS leak? or do I need to get the recovery image that was packaged with the leak? I would really like to put the stock recovery image back on my phone so I can get the OTA updates.
Just reflash ics and don't flash cwm or superuser and you will be stock and should get ota's.
That is if I am understanding your question and issue
That is correct, but I would like to keep it rooted and put the stock recovery back on.

If you stay rooted you won't get ota's

I tried flashing stock recovery after installing ICS leak and I got an error in Odin and fail. On reboot I got the connect to keis screen (forget the exact wording) I ended up flashing k0nanes stock. tar to get back up and running. For some reason it didn't like the solo stock recovery flash, but it flashed stock recovery with k0nanes .tar

This leak isn't official. There may be problems with an update if you do get one OTA. Be careful!! Personally I will wait for an update to come out, flash stock and grab it. I wouldn't do it with CWM or even rooted though being rooted didn't matter for 2.3.6.

If I want the ota do I have to lock fastboot or can I just flash a fully stock rom. I saved my stock rom from when I first rooted.

The bootloader can stay unlocked.
Sent by pocket technology.
Cool as long as I have the original rom, kernel and ect...... I think it was 2.3.6. I don't need to lock bootloader thx

You can't flash an OTA on anything but stock recovery. You would be better off waiting 10 minutes for a flashable .zip to be posted on the forums so you don't have to do anything but wipe data.
Since you are going to restore to 2.3.6, you will probably be able to update the phone to 4.0.4 atm. And if that works, then the OTA for Jelly Bean will probably work too!

Wrong
Again in order to manually flash a official ota you NEED a custom recovery. It no longer works on stock recovery. The ota installs on stock recovery IF you get it pushed to you. It will fail to automatically flash ( as far I know) if the ota is pushed to your device and you click on reboot and install with a custom recovery.
You NEVER have to wipe data when applying a ota.
I've not been able to catch up to speed with the new custom roms and need some help from the community.
When I brought my UK WIFI Xoom (MZ604) back in Autumn 2011 I had it rooted, Clockwork recovery installed and a Tiamat custom rom on it. I switched it on earlier in the week and the boot screen just kept on loading in a cycle and wouldn't stop. I thought to save myself time I grab a new rom and install the ZIP as normal. Now the Xoom just goes in a cycle of the loading rom screen. I don't think I've bricked it because I'm able to get into the recovery mode.
I've been out of touch and need some clear guidance in what I need to do next.
1. All the ICS roms have ceased development? Reason why I ask is that its easier to 'recover' my Xoom with just install a new Rom over the old?
2. Jellybean requires additional steps to put the customer rom? Its not just a simple case of install new Rom over the old via clockwork.
EDIT: Just to note I'm still on HoneyComb so looking further I might need to put a new CWM on my tablet and reroot?
Thanks.
Question: As I've got CWM currently installed, if I perform flashing eos recovery, will this resolve my issues?
Can you download the stock firmware and flash it through fastboot and start from scratch?

I think I can revert it back to stock but I was hoping to do a quick win solution and download a rom and install. I might have to follow some guides tonight and get it up and running again.
Try installing rogue touch recovery and flashing a different rom.
