[Q] please i need expert answer to this root question? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i recently rooted my device (gt n8000) using root inject method with a 1gb download by max on this forum.
i installed the european version and from that tutorial i learnt i only got root not clockworkmod recovery.
i want to install the updated unofficial jelly bean 4.2.1 as seen from this link
alaxy-note101-n8000-android421-jellybean-cyanogenmod101-official-417872.htm
but i will need to have cwm recovery to do that.
my question is do i unroot and reroot using cwm method or can i install cwm recovery directly without unrooting? if yes please how and where can i download it. Thanks

Root has nothing to do with CWM, CWM is a custom recovery which will replace the stock recovery.
Just download the latest version and install it using ODIN. Remember one thing uncheck autoreboot when you are flashing CWM and then before you start the note in normal mode boot into cwm by pressing power+volumeup button.
Once you do that copy the zip file on your sd card.
Also remember you will need to do a complete wipe and hence will lose all data so make sure you do a nandroid back or a titanium backup

what am trying to say is how do i install clockworkmod recovery on my rooted note 10.1.

You need to download ODIN
Install all the drivers on your pc (if you have kies installed it must have done it)
Download latest CWM image file
Start ODIN on you pc
Boot into download mode by pressing Power+volumedown key and when u see the warning sign press volume + key
Connect you Tablet with Pc using the usb cable
load the img file by clicking on PDA, make sure you uncheck autoreboot, and all other options around it then click on Start it will flash cwm
once you do that it boot into recovery mode
The other way is to download rom manager or install it from google play but it is a paid app

Remember though that the flash counter will increase so you will need to run triangleaway app after to reset counter.
I tend to find though that triangleaway works but when the tab resets, using the JB rom, the flash counter goes up to 1 again...

MobileODIN will also flash a recovery perfectly well... and it WON'T trip the flash counter.

Since i actually rooted using a rooted injected ics firmware....When i update to jellybean via OTA will the root be gone?
i actually prefer the root injected method

It goes up to one again because you are using custom recovery if you used cf root method you will get the original recovery back and the counter will not rise to one again

[Q] How to uninstall clockworkmod recovery?

I have a galaxy tab 2 7.0 [GT-P3113]
I just flashed cwm recovery on it and rooted it, I've just wanted to try and uninstall clockworkmod and go back to stock recovery, I searched everywhere but I couldn't find anything for my tab model.
I'm running android 4.0.4, didn't flash any ROMs yet.

Thanks, I have some questions because I coudln't post a reply to that post.
-I live in egypt and I bought my tab from the US, this rom is for the US so should I flash it normally? (will I get the OTA updates)?
-should I backup my data and so? (sorry it's my first device)
You should get ota's as its 100% stock. As far as flashing it no need to backup anything. You won't have root or cwr to use your backup. Flash via Odin and you should be good to go.

*I done that for my Galaxy Ace, I believe should be the same.
reverting back to Stock from CWM all you need is Odin and stock firmware which able to obtain from sammobile.
flash is with stock ROM via Odin will bring everything back to stock. *after flash, make sure swipe your data & cache OTHERWISE it will stuck and become boot-loop.

I did flash the stock ROM and recovery via odin, and it worked perfectly, thanks for the info thought because once I forgot to wipe data and it was stuck on boot-loop till I reached recovery mode.
I meant isn't there a normal way to go back to android recovery without flashing new ROM?
Can't really have stock recovery AND root... seeing as you install root via CWM
Besides you can do way more with CWM over stock.

Do you have a P5100 , P5110 or P5113 ? It don´t sounds like!
If not - don´t use this files! This might brick your device!
If you don´t have a P51XX you need to find a Stock-Recovery or Custom-Recovery for your Device.
If you have P51XX download and flash a StockRom - or extract the recover.img inside the XXX_HOME.tar.md5 and make it Odin-Flashable using this tool and flash it with Odin.

[Q] Rooted and can't install OTA update

Hi.
I rooted my Note 8010 using Zedomax' method. All has been fine. My note has now downaloded the JB OTA update, but it fails to install.
I assume I need to restore 'stock' recovery to install the OTA update? But where can I get this from.
Also will installing the OTA remove root? And will Zedomax' method still work to re-root after applying the update.
Regards
Installing the OTA should not remove root but if it does just use the exynos abuse patch app to root that is the simplest and safest method.
Thanks Samir_a
Do I actually need to restore stock recovery? If so, where can I get that?

Ok I ran the CF auto root to restore stock recovery.
But now I have downloaded the ota update 3 times, and on clicking install it fails immediately.
Previously it rebooted into CWM recovery.
Any ideas what's wrong now? I'm guessing I can download a full update and flash it another away, but I assume that will erase all settings.
Try to flash via odin or if u r rooted use mobile odin . Im now on jb 4.1.2 i flashed my note via mobile odin in 5 min
Thanks mexman_2010.
However if I use odin that will trash my settings won't it?
Is there no way of getting the ota update to work?
You dont need to retore stock recovery or fiddle with odin. Just use kies on your computer and it installs the update for you. All your data should still be intact after the process but it is recommended to backup first
Keep in mind that updating using kies removes root
The ota's are using the patch method;
effectively what they do is work out the difference between the new binaries and old binaries and just send a patch that changes the old into the new.. this is done to keep the ota as small as possible I presume.
so if the binary isn't identical to what was shipped with the rom its trying to update then it will have to fail, otherwise you'd end up with an almighty great mess of non booting or corrupted devices.
if they used the file method (complete apks etc like an cwm style zip) then it shouldn't matter, but as it is, the only way to ensure a patch will work is to make sure the files are identical to what the patch was generated against, root allows you to change system files, so root is the primary way of checking if the system has been altered.
ergo if you want otas then you're most likely going to have to run them from a stock rom.
Thanks for all the info guys.
Bizarrely though, having left the Note overnight. It downloaded the OTA update itself and this time when I clicked install it worked perfectly, so
all is well again.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Please every one. I need help with my n8000. Currently i am on stock ics rooted with zedomax cwm installed. Is it safe for me to install OTA update or can i just switch back to my stock recovery by flashing it through odin? I have downloaded the stock recovery so im waiting for your replies

Why don't you just install the latest version from sammobile with Odin or Mobile Odin instead of using the complicate way?
Can i revert to stock recovery by flashing through odin and still keep root?

Yes you can do that, install stock recovery using ODIN, you will need to use triangleaway to reset your binary count though.

[Q] Help Restoring P5110 to Stock

I am looking for some help regarding my Tab 2 10.1.
My tab was rooted and then flashed with Cyanogenmod 9.1.
Also ClockworkMod recovery 6.0.2.7 was installed.
What I want to know is how do I restore it to its stock firmware and have it as if it was new, root free with no evidence of custom firmware i.e reset flash counter
All help welcome!
I was in the same exact situation, i am now back to official stock rom with no signs of mods. Here's what i did. This works on all galaxy tab 2 devices by the way.
-First download stock official 4.1.1 p5110 rom and flash it with odin.
-Start up your tab to see if it's back to stock rom.
-Next you have to root it with CF-autoroot and flash it with odin.
-You should now have stock official rom with stock recovery and a rooted device.
-Now download Triangle Away app for free over at the XDA forums (google it) or support the DEV by purchasing it on Google Play.
-While using triangle away, reset the flash counter, the app would then close after it's done. Make sure that triangle away did the job by opening the app and viewing the status Official with 0 flash counts.
-Now open SuperSU and go to settings and select full unroot, your device would then be unrooted.
-Lastly, put the tab to stock recovery mode and factory reset the tab.
You should now be good to go as if you have never modded the tab, to confirm, go to settings<status and check what it says on the status. If it says official than you are done.
NOTE: Be aware that Triangle away is said to hard brick your device if mishandled, according to the DEV. However i have never bricked my device over the dozens of times i have used this nor have i seen anyone brick because of this. For more information view the XDA Triangle away post.

If you have a stock ROM, it will run /system/etc/install-recovery.sh which will re-install the stock recovery. If you're rooted, that's the easiest way to get the stock recovery back (chmod 544 /system/etc/install-recovery.sh then /system/etc/install-recovery.sh)

The firmware should come with Stock Recovery. If ODIN do not flash it with Firmware then you try to flash the Stock Recovery only..If still not done then use Odin mobile ver and try.

[Q] General Question About Odin and CWM

Hi
I plan on buying a new Galaxy Tab 2 and I've figured out how I plan on rooting it. I've found several guides that say you should install CF-AutoRoot via ODIN then install CWM then install custom rom. I haven't rooted an Android device before but I've viewed a ton of tutorials on how to do it.
However, I've gotten the lastest CWM build for my device on their website and created an ODIN flashable package with it. Couldn't I just flash my ODIN CWM packaged that I made then install a rom since roms come rooted or don't they?

hi
usually it's like this:
1- flash your custom recovery by odin
2- write your root file by custom recovery
or
just flash cf auto root by the stock recovery that the phone has.
it depends on your phone and your procedure you choose...

You just need to flash the cwm via Odin. Then insert the Rom you want to flash in your internal or external ad card. Access cwm recovery. Do a full data, cache, dalvic cache wipe. Then flash Rom and then gapps.
No need to root if you want to install a custom Rom coz most of it comes pre rooted.

Thank you I was just wondering that. I was confused because every tutorial I found for installing a custom ROM they always used some sort of thing to root first but logically that didn't make any sense to me. Because to install a ROM you have to wipe everything so you wouldn't have root access left. And I looked in the zip files for the rom I want to install and under xbin there was su which is the root command and saw busybox.
I don't think they come rooted

[Q] Help using CWM!

Hello,
today I tried to put CWM on my old Galaxy fit using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19204364 so then I could upgrade it and then install a ROM, I did the Odin Multidownloader process and it looked like it worked, but I wanted to test it and I didn't know how to use the CWM I just installed, so I went to ROM Manager and from there I tried to do the CWM Recovery option and when it started to reboot, it got like stuck in the Samsung logo and some kind of bootloop, the only thing I can do is press the home-volume up-power button so I can go to the Downloading... screen.
What can I do?
Does anyone know?
Thanks
I would recommend using download mode and Odin to flash a stock Rom. Once u do that and root ur phone again I suggest getting twrp. Seems to work better for me and easy to install.,

Which version of cwm did you install?
Installing Stock Roms
First, download the stock rom of your choice from samfirmware.com
Then download beni.ops and Odin Multidownloader
Remove the sim card and memory card of your phone, and put it in download mode
Next, run Odin, and connect your phone to your windows computer. Odin should respond as detected. Then, select “Ops” as beni.ops. (Doing this would disable all other fields except “One Package”)
After this, select your desired stock rom in “One Package”.
Do not alter any other option other than those mentioned, let them remain as they are.
Make sure that the color of “COM PORT MAPPING” is yellow, and then click “Start”.
Odin will start giving different responses, and the timer in Odin would also start…now all you have to do is wait till Odin completes flashing (You will get a message “Pass”, usually within 10 minutes)
Note: Do not disconnect you phone while the process is on, and till you get that “Pass” message.
After this, it is optional but advised that you reboot into recovery mode and wipe data, otherwise you *may* face bootloops.[/list]

Question 1: can you enter recovery!? By holding power + home buttons.
Question 2: are you sure you downloaded the correct ROM from the Samsung ROMs website (the correct ROM means the latest link from your carrier).
Edit: don't forget to take out the USB cable after the flashing is done.
Depending on your answer:
Try to redo the procedure without installing custom recovery (just flash thru download mode via Odin the downloaded ROM for your device) and see if it boots (first boot takes a long time so just wait.
If you're trying to install ONLY the cwm recovery be sure you are getting the one meant for beni (other will not work).

Well now on your phone is 6045 recovery which works ONLY with Cyanogenmod 11. Go to yajnab's thread and download the alpha5. Put it on your SD and flash though recovery mode (recovery mode : keep power + middle button "home" pressed until you enter recovery mode). Wipe data, cache and dalvik (Dalvik from advanced). Press install from SD card and navigate to where you put the zip downloaded earlier. Select it.... Wait... Wait.... After that wait some more... Then you can enjoy CM11 aka KitKat.
If you want a different ROM (cm7 - cm10.2) flash an older custom recovery and do the same as above.
Flashing is simple and practice makes it perfect. After all you have a Fit for spare.
Remember that different ROMs might have different flashing instructions so ALWAYS read the OP in the ROMs thread.
Enjoy!

Have you installed your ROM using 6045 cwm recovery!? Or you installed the 6045 recovery after installing ROM!?
Yajnab says:
Code:
This Recovery will only support Ext4, Ext3 or Ext2 formatted Custom ROMs.
No RFS support has been included here.
So dont come with the issues when having any stock ROM or stock based RFS custom ROM installed.
