Hi
I plan on buying a new Galaxy Tab 2 and I've figured out how I plan on rooting it. I've found several guides that say you should install CF-AutoRoot via ODIN then install CWM then install custom rom. I haven't rooted an Android device before but I've viewed a ton of tutorials on how to do it.
However, I've gotten the lastest CWM build for my device on their website and created an ODIN flashable package with it. Couldn't I just flash my ODIN CWM packaged that I made then install a rom since roms come rooted or don't they?

hi
usually it's like this:
1- flash your custom recovery by odin
2- write your root file by custom recovery
or
just flash cf auto root by the stock recovery that the phone has.
it depends on your phone and your procedure you choose...

You just need to flash the cwm via Odin. Then insert the Rom you want to flash in your internal or external ad card. Access cwm recovery. Do a full data, cache, dalvic cache wipe. Then flash Rom and then gapps.
No need to root if you want to install a custom Rom coz most of it comes pre rooted.

Thank you I was just wondering that. I was confused because every tutorial I found for installing a custom ROM they always used some sort of thing to root first but logically that didn't make any sense to me. Because to install a ROM you have to wipe everything so you wouldn't have root access left. And I looked in the zip files for the rom I want to install and under xbin there was su which is the root command and saw busybox.
I don't think they come rooted

Hey guys,
Finally got around to working on my phone. I have a question. I've been following this guide here to the letter. But I skipped step 1 as I thought rooting was only for 2.2 Froyo G2x owners as mine's already been updated to 2.3. Do I still need to root it to flash CWM while I'm logged into my phone??
Thanks in advance!!
If flashing cwm via nvflash doesn't work then you'll need to root first, it's been quite some time since I last did this, but I'm pretty sure all you need to do is flash cwm using nvflash and then install the rom of your choice

Followed the guide here and flashed the root file.
One last question. Can I install roms and kernels from rom manager, or do i do both from cwm?

I honestly never tried to install roms, or kernels, from rom manager, I think you need to buy the premium app to be able to do so. Either way, it's always safer to flash from cwm since you can wipe everything you need to from there (ie. cache, dalvik cache, system, and data) which is very important when flahing different roms, and kernels

Just to reiterate, on this particular phone it's not the best idea to flash with rom manager at all. Always go with cwm.

Super One Click has been updated with a new exploit that can root the G2X Gingerbread without flashing CWM Recovery. Get the new version of Super One Click and root it that way. Or flash CWM Recovery and then flash my root zip.

ICS for G2x is a work in progress. I believe CM team is working on it.
I want to install the ClockworkMod TOUCH 5.5.0.4 v4 . but I found there are many ways to install it , odin and cwm
I have both , but somebody said they have trouble to flash in Cwm and some others said there are some mini error happened when they use the odin way. which way is more safe to flash the ClockworkMod touch instead of my non touch CWM.
if i flash with CWM, the touch will replace the CWM, or they will both installed on my phone???
I've always used Odin with no problems. To my knowledge you can't flash a recovery from a recovery. You could use rom manager from the market if your rooted but I hear bad things about using rom manager to flash clockwork. My advice use Odin

please take a look
i agree with you that we can not to flash a recovery with another recover. however, please take a look the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472954
the first one is a zip file and the instruction said
( Just flash in CWM
- this one creates the .hidenandroidprogress file for you so you dont need to create it manually)
what is that mean??
i have already flash the non touch CWM on my phone, is it ok to flash this touch with odin , do i need to wipe the data or something i need to be careful before i flash, please let me know. i did not find a instruction detail with that.
Some phones you have to create that file and some you don't. On mine when creating a backup it would hang up. So what I did was flash in Odin the recovery image then installed the zip thru cwm then wipe cache and dalvick cache... also it is important that you have the latest version of busybox installed...
Try flashing the recovery in Odin first and if all works well then don't do anything else but if it hangs on making a backup then do what I said above... if you get stumped just let me know and I'll try to walk you thru it

1. Yes you can just use Odin and flash cwm touch. I had an earlier version installed and wanted to update so I just cranked up Odin 1.85 click PDA navigate to where you downloaded the tar file make sure repartition is NOT checked and flash away.
2. All you are flashing is a recovery image so no need to wipe anything.
3. Yes if something goes wrong you should be able to restore your backup or if you wanted you could look in the dev section and find the Odin one click 2.3.5 att stock firmware and flash it and start over. But that is not necessary. However I do recommend you download the phones stock firmware from sammobile.com and store it on your PC just in case you ever need it for any reason....
OK I think I covered everything so if you need anymore help let me know and as always happy flashing....
Oh btw flashing is very addictive. I'm a flashaholic... so flash at your own risk

i recently rooted my device (gt n8000) using root inject method with a 1gb download by max on this forum.
i installed the european version and from that tutorial i learnt i only got root not clockworkmod recovery.
i want to install the updated unofficial jelly bean 4.2.1 as seen from this link
alaxy-note101-n8000-android421-jellybean-cyanogenmod101-official-417872.htm
but i will need to have cwm recovery to do that.
my question is do i unroot and reroot using cwm method or can i install cwm recovery directly without unrooting? if yes please how and where can i download it. Thanks
Root has nothing to do with CWM, CWM is a custom recovery which will replace the stock recovery.
Just download the latest version and install it using ODIN. Remember one thing uncheck autoreboot when you are flashing CWM and then before you start the note in normal mode boot into cwm by pressing power+volumeup button.
Once you do that copy the zip file on your sd card.
Also remember you will need to do a complete wipe and hence will lose all data so make sure you do a nandroid back or a titanium backup
what am trying to say is how do i install clockworkmod recovery on my rooted note 10.1.
You need to download ODIN
Install all the drivers on your pc (if you have kies installed it must have done it)
Download latest CWM image file
Start ODIN on you pc
Boot into download mode by pressing Power+volumedown key and when u see the warning sign press volume + key
Connect you Tablet with Pc using the usb cable
load the img file by clicking on PDA, make sure you uncheck autoreboot, and all other options around it then click on Start it will flash cwm
once you do that it boot into recovery mode
The other way is to download rom manager or install it from google play but it is a paid app
Remember though that the flash counter will increase so you will need to run triangleaway app after to reset counter.
I tend to find though that triangleaway works but when the tab resets, using the JB rom, the flash counter goes up to 1 again...
MobileODIN will also flash a recovery perfectly well... and it WON'T trip the flash counter.

It goes up to one again because you are using custom recovery if you used cf root method you will get the original recovery back and the counter will not rise to one again

Hello,
today I tried to put CWM on my old Galaxy fit using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19204364 so then I could upgrade it and then install a ROM, I did the Odin Multidownloader process and it looked like it worked, but I wanted to test it and I didn't know how to use the CWM I just installed, so I went to ROM Manager and from there I tried to do the CWM Recovery option and when it started to reboot, it got like stuck in the Samsung logo and some kind of bootloop, the only thing I can do is press the home-volume up-power button so I can go to the Downloading... screen.
What can I do?
Does anyone know?
Thanks
I would recommend using download mode and Odin to flash a stock Rom. Once u do that and root ur phone again I suggest getting twrp. Seems to work better for me and easy to install.,

Which version of cwm did you install?
Installing Stock Roms
First, download the stock rom of your choice from samfirmware.com
Then download beni.ops and Odin Multidownloader
Remove the sim card and memory card of your phone, and put it in download mode
Next, run Odin, and connect your phone to your windows computer. Odin should respond as detected. Then, select “Ops” as beni.ops. (Doing this would disable all other fields except “One Package”)
After this, select your desired stock rom in “One Package”.
Do not alter any other option other than those mentioned, let them remain as they are.
Make sure that the color of “COM PORT MAPPING” is yellow, and then click “Start”.
Odin will start giving different responses, and the timer in Odin would also start…now all you have to do is wait till Odin completes flashing (You will get a message “Pass”, usually within 10 minutes)
Note: Do not disconnect you phone while the process is on, and till you get that “Pass” message.
After this, it is optional but advised that you reboot into recovery mode and wipe data, otherwise you *may* face bootloops.[/list]

Question 1: can you enter recovery!? By holding power + home buttons.
Question 2: are you sure you downloaded the correct ROM from the Samsung ROMs website (the correct ROM means the latest link from your carrier).
Edit: don't forget to take out the USB cable after the flashing is done.
Depending on your answer:
Try to redo the procedure without installing custom recovery (just flash thru download mode via Odin the downloaded ROM for your device) and see if it boots (first boot takes a long time so just wait.
If you're trying to install ONLY the cwm recovery be sure you are getting the one meant for beni (other will not work).

Here you can get stock ROM :

Be sure you follow the instructions in Odin.
Are you sure you can't get in recovery with home + power!? Seems strange. Try to reinstall CWM recovery thru download mode then try to get into recovery mode. You can find more than five Odin flash able recoveries in XDA for fit. Try all.

Ok, sorry, I forgot to give an update during the weekend (and sorry, I was interested... but I didn't have time to give the update ) :
1.- I wanted to get CWM 5 and I tried to reboot, but I got that bootloop (I anyways wanted the CWM 6.0.4.5 version because I heard it is better)
2.- I finally got the stock rom using Sammobile.
3.- I flashed the stock rom to get rid of that annoying bootloop.
4.- I got CWM 5 with Odin
6.- Updated CWM to the 6.0.4.5 version.
7.-I got Cyanogenmod 10.1.4 version
I actually was able to get into recovery mode, but the thing is that I didn't know how to get into it... lol
I am doing this as an experimet because I don't use the Fit as a phone, so... what should I do next?
Anyways; thank you all for your help, ahmetakin and johnny.

Well now on your phone is 6045 recovery which works ONLY with Cyanogenmod 11. Go to yajnab's thread and download the alpha5. Put it on your SD and flash though recovery mode (recovery mode : keep power + middle button "home" pressed until you enter recovery mode). Wipe data, cache and dalvik (Dalvik from advanced). Press install from SD card and navigate to where you put the zip downloaded earlier. Select it.... Wait... Wait.... After that wait some more... Then you can enjoy CM11 aka KitKat.
If you want a different ROM (cm7 - cm10.2) flash an older custom recovery and do the same as above.
Flashing is simple and practice makes it perfect. After all you have a Fit for spare.
Remember that different ROMs might have different flashing instructions so ALWAYS read the OP in the ROMs thread.
Enjoy!

Have you installed your ROM using 6045 cwm recovery!? Or you installed the 6045 recovery after installing ROM!?
Yajnab says:
Code:
This Recovery will only support Ext4, Ext3 or Ext2 formatted Custom ROMs.
No RFS support has been included here.
So dont come with the issues when having any stock ROM or stock based RFS custom ROM installed.
The Device wont boot up
So, honestly I didn't tried to install other rom than cm11 on this recovery.
