[Q] RDP Performance on TF700 vs TF101? - Asus Transformer TF700

Hello,
I currently have a TF101 and am looking at getting a TF700. I'm wondering if anyone who has used both tablets or similar tablets has noticed any difference in RDP performance? Specifically non-Splashtop RDP (using a client like 2x or Wyse). I noticed that the redraw was a bit slow on the TF101 and am hoping the TF700 improves things.
Thanks!

I cannot give you a comparison, but I use XTraLogic's Remote Desktop with my computer and it's pretty damned fast. Audio and video stream without hiccuping for shorter videos. I haven't tried anything too long yet. Control is flawless, something that I have been missing for a while with their app and ICS leaks on my BIONIC.

any Nexus 1 Owners here?

I bought a G-Tablet from ebay for about $320 (shipped), but it hasn't arrived yet. I recently had bought the Nook Color and rooted it, overclocked it to it's max, and still was severely disappointed in its performance. My nexus one, *not* overclocked, although rooted but pretty much stock with launcher pro...blew it away in every performance measurement I used: flash
videos in the browser, general browsing, video playing.
I guess I should have asked this question before I went ahead and actually bought the gtablet, but are there any Nexus One owners here who can make the strange apples to oranges comparison between the Gtablet and the N1 as far as performance? Once you've rooted and modded the Gtablet of course, I'm not looking for a stock to stock comparison (even though my N1 is nearly stock)

Are you just looking for quadrant scores?

No, not at all. I'm actually not looking for performance "benchmarks".
I am looking to see if anyone who has the N1 and the GTablet can comment on if web browsing, flash video playing, playing videos that neither device have codecs for via RockPlayer...., how well the Gtablet does compared to the N1. Because like I said, I bought the nook color, and overclocked it all the way, put launcher pro on it.....but it was still so sluggish when it came to browsing smoothness, flash video playing, playing videos in rockplayer and so on...my N1 which is not at all overclocked or anything blew it out of the water.

Hmmmm?
Quadrant, Linpack, and Nena are all trusted benchmark tools for android devices.
And although I own both devices you're asking about I've never really ran benchmarks on them side by side.
I will say that my N1 does perform better from experience with using them both.
What I take into account is the fact that froyo and gingerbread are better suited for devices with calling capabilities and the gtab is would be better suited for honeycomb.
Maybe someone else has done what you're asking.
I would say that on the G Tab flash is smoother, web browsing is just as fast (I use dolphin browser hd), launcherpro on the g tab is a little faster, and most apps are about the same (Gmail has a little lag but not major). I use Cyanogenmod 7 on my N1 and VeganTab on my G Tab, and I love them both!
Thanks you brutusbucknuts, that's the kind of comparison I'm looking for. I'm glad to hear that. Anyone else?
Have both, though my N1 is running stock Froyo and my G-Tab is running Vegan Tab with the 5.1.1 supplement. In general the experience is comparable between the two, although web browsing is easier on the bigger screen (so is Angry Birds for that matter).
tl;dr brutusbucknuts review +1
I agree with the previous comments provided. General usage, the gtab seems a little speedier, but overall, both are fairly comparable.

TF101 as a citrix thin client

I have gotten a TF101 to test it out as a supplementary mobile client.
We are running Citrix and I have a desktop published throug Citrix Receiver. I have found keyboard and mouse that works with this wonderful machine but I want to have an external display also.
But I find the HDMI support quite bad. The content fills more than the TV Screen and I cannot change the screen resolution. I would like to have a larger screen resolution on the external display but cannot find any way to do this.
I have a LG Optimus 3D phone and on that I can adjust a lot of options on the HDMI port so it should be possible.
One snag: I am testing out this to be used in large scale for hundreds and eventually thousands of users so this needs to be working on completely stock operating system.
Maybe the Asus HDMI to VGA Adaptor is something to think about?

Ok. I got this one and it almost fills my need. I need to get a higher screen resolution on the external display. 1280x720 is way to small for a permanent workstation. At least with the tools I use.
Maybe I just have to wait for ICS to get this working?
Are you trying HDMI on a TV or a monitor? If a TV does it look washed out and a little zoomed in? TV's have some over scan options that really mess with the signal from PCs. Look around the menu options of the TV and see if you can turn it off, alot of em can't tho. Just google HDMI PC overscan and you'll get a better picutre of what I'm talking about.
For res I don't think it can do better than 720 and I've never seen any options for it. I'd call up Asus if your going to be making a decision that could mean eventually thousands of sales for them.
Also don't forget that they said they're launching the Windows 8 Transformer this year. That should suit your needs beautifully.
How are you accessing your Citrix Desktop? Using the Receiver? Or is there another app specifically for Citrix Desktop access?
EDIT: Never mind, the VDI i was trying to access was taken down recently by the systems team. Do'h. Time to build a server.
Me personally I've been using the citrix beta app, seems to work better.

I tried with the VGA adapter on my 22" samsung syncmaster and the desktop filled the screen perfectly. Via HDMI to my 42 inch HDTV I got overscan problems.
It is though the monitor I need to use to acheive my goal of using it as a citrix thin client. I hope we can manipulate the HDMI output more in ICS. It would be nice to use the monitor's native resolution (1680x1050).

Agreed. It has more options and seems more stable. Go figure.
The TF101 does not support greater than 720p output for mirroring. No word from Asus if they will ever bump it up to 1080p capability, since the Tegra 2 already struggles with 1080p video playback. You should wait for the TF700T for full 1080p output.

Actually 1080p is not what I need. 1280 is more than enough horisontal resolution, but 720 vertical is too little. If it could output 1280x1024 on an external monitor I'd be very happy.
What I say is that there should be an alternative to mirroring on the HDMI port. With the dock and usb ports the interal screen could be switched off and a resolution of choice be shown on the HDMI-connected display.

Does netflix selection menu lag?

I currently have the Infinity tablet and was wondering if the netflix app has any lag in the video selection menu on the Note? The lag is really bad on the Infinity when trying to find a video to watch. Everything is fine once the video is playing though.
I also wonder if anyone has tried Nova 3 on the Note. It plays ok on the infinity but it does stutter from time to time and the overall framerate isn't perfectly smooth either.
Thinking about trying the Note out for comparison
so far this tablet has the smoothest netflix scrolling i've seen without forcing gpu acceleration. it's still a bit stuttery and not nearly as smooth as ios' version. but i'm sure it could be if netflix put their mind to. forcing gpu (on the tf700) is the closest i've seen comparable to ios netflix scrolling, but still a bit buggy turning it on - the touches sometimes don't register. i haven't had the need to force it on the gnote.
No it's no where as nearly as bad as the prime or infinity. Both of those were laggy big time. It is at least tolerable on the note. It stutters sometimes but you can definitely use it.
Netflix lags for the menu on everything I have tried to use it with but less on the Note 10.1.
I guess its a netflix problem. It lags on any device I try it with, note included even if less.

Getting the most out of my TF101 now that i have a note 8

Now that I have a new tablet I have found that my old TF101 is sitting on the self gathering dust. I'm trying to think of ways to make the most of it.
My note 8.0 is now my day to day use and travel companion (gaming, social media, notes and sketching)
I have traditionally used my PS3 for Games, TV (playTV), streaming services and watching media on my NAS but since the DRM has started to prevent me watching my ripped DVDs I barely use it for that any more.
I've been looking into XBMC for the TF101 and have been wondering if there is away i can control it remotely so that I dont have to get up from the sofa everytime I wish to change shows etc.
I'll also probably continue to use it to view magazines and comics as i preffer the larger screen for that use.
I dont intend on taking it out of my flat as I find the 10 inch form factor too large for portable use.
Can anyone suggest other or improved ways that I can utilise my tf101 in conjuntion with my other gear?
Im running TEAM EOS4 rom and kat kernal (release is about 2 months old), OC'd to 1400.
I'd love to be able to run skygo from it but it doesnt look like it is ever going to be supported.
Hey I am planning to sell my transformer and buy an nexus 7 and I was wondering that r u satisfied with you note 8 as its kinda similar to the nexus 7, cuz I am being conflicted with the idea of selling my tf101 for an nexus 7 but with a much higher speed and gaming performance.
With that how is the gaming, movie and web experience compared to that of the tf101 , Oh and mail experience too l

I hadn't seen your reply until just now.
Yes I'm very satisfied with my note. The performance is excelent and it is much more convenient as a day to day companion. I found the Nexus 7 a little to small, but thats just personal prefference. For gaming performance is should be about on par with the note and I'm happy with the results. The one downside of the Nexus 7 is the lack of expandable memory, so for gaming you will need to be looking at the largest possible memory size. I use folder mount on my note to transfer the game files to my external micro SD. this isnt an option with the nexus.
Gaming experience. Better - less combersome and heavy (tired arms with extended play on tf101)
movie experience - on par. better PPI means sharper images but its a smaller screen. bigger is always better for movies in my opinion.
web - on par. same screen resolution means I can fit as much on the screen as I could on the TF101.
email - id say better, mainly because i preffer the lighter tablet. makes it more of a pleasure to use.
reading - for books i think its better but I like to read comics as well and find that the screen is a little to small for my liking.
Main benefit - performance and portability. I always new my TF101 was in my bag due to the size and weight. My note is far less of a burden.
At the moment im only keeping the tf101 as a comic book reader, but im trying to make it my media centre for home use as my ps3 is a little overkill for that task and I am energy consious (both cost and environmental reasons). If I didnt have my note, I'd still be making good use of the TF101 though as it is a really good machine (especially if you have a JB rom and have it overclocked).

is this good/bad for streaming game?

hello there. Is ASUS tf 101 capable of streaming games (using limelight for example) smoothly? I'm thinking to buy a IPEGA 9023 controller since it can fit Asus tf 101 perfectly, but I wonder if Asus tf 101 itself is good enough to stream games. since I upgraded into katkiss 4.4.3 I have been having issues with youtube videos (lag) so maybe it's not strong enough to stream games?
Short answer is no.
I tried using mine for this purpose and it's far from being decent, even at 720p @30fps. The decoding delay is about 400ms on top of a lot of stuttering and dropped frames/packets. It's impossible to play any action games. Not sure why or if it can be improved, but sadly it does not work well.
As a comparison, my nexus 4 can handle [email protected] fps fine and can somewhat do [email protected], going to 60fps it cannot keep up either. You also need a serious router to handle it as well, 5GHz band and very close to it.
