What flavor of Android do you have? - HTC Sensation

Hello everyone
I'm conducting some research and I would like to know from you what version of Android you're rocking!
Once you done voting, reply on why you're using a certain version of Android (i.e. No stable ROMs -just an example, there are plenty stable ROMs-, no good battery life on certain version of android, to lazy to update etc.)
Then when you're done here go over to elvisypi's thread and vote on which ROM you're using
Thanks!

I'm on ICS
The reason is Sense, I love the HTC style! I will get on JB when HTC releases updates for One S, with the first porting.

I'm on CM10 (AKA JellyBean), Sense is amazing, better than any skinned Android OS on other brands, but i've found it to lag after heavy use and needs a reboot to kick up again. i never saw that on CM.

I can understand where you coming from. Sense is very "bloaty"... But there is things you can do to cut it down like ROM cleaner and freezing apps you don't use :cyclops:

This poll would be better if you had it set up like this:
Sense 3.0 GB
Sense 3.5 GB
AOSP GB (CM7, etc)
Sense 3.6 ICS
AOSP ICS (CM9, AOKP, etc)
Sense 4.1
AOSP Jellybean (CM10, AOKP-JB, PA, etc)
Sense 4.5 Jellybean (just for future-proofing the poll)
AOSP Jellybean 4.2 (again, for future-proofing)
That way you can see exactly the more detailed preferences of the community (and also the broad preferences) rather than only the broad preferences.
No harm, just a suggestion

For me the only way to go is jb. Paranoid Android is my daily driver. I've been through all android os and sense (which I don't really care for) with this phone.if i can only get WiFi to work i would not have to get another phone.

My only problem with JellyBean so far is none of the ROMs give a really smooth status bar feel, and thats really important to me...
Also my phone gets hot really quickly with JellyBean ROMs and the battery life isn't to good...

I was on Cmx by Bruce and it was good except the wifi signal is too weak. My phone could hardly catch any when I'm at school. So now I'm on ViperS 1.4 and it's the best sense 4 rom for the Sensation. It's very stable, great battery life and smooth performance.

I am using European ICS 4.0.3 and Sense 3.6 stock rom, version 3.33.401.53 to be precise. Since the last .53 update that rolled out in europe, sense crashes have become quier rare. Its very good and stable now.
So moved from Apex launcher to completely stock experience. Working great for me.
Custom Roms were never my liking coz of the kernel changes devs do. I prefer running completely stock roms if there are not any serious issues

I'm using ICS 4.0.3 and 3.33 firmware also I'm using jelly bean Android version 4.1.2 with paranoid Android by Dragun Korr. It's stable fast smooth, and you can turn your phone into a tablet, or a phone/tablet hybrid, or leave it a phone. It has a ARM V 7 processor . I really love this rom and Android version. I've had no trouble what so ever with it! Wi-Fi working, tethering working, no reboots, no lag, simply awesome! Use it as my daily driver. Development is very active and alive with this rom. Always improving or adding something else! It's been the best rom I've tired in my opinion! I don't miss sense for a second. Tons of customization available!

ics
imho, cm9 and sense on ics are the most stable and battery friendly roms you can get, for now. JB gave me a headache every time i had a look on the battery usage graph. but still, once you go JB it's hard to go back to sense or cm9. cheers.

ICS.
HTC Sense has a lot of useful stuff. Internet Pass-Through, Contact Sync is nice to have.
Tried a lot of JB ROMs still went back to Sense 3.6 and on rare cases, Sense 4.

Frankensteins Aokp Jellybean 4.1 here! Best battery life....solid and stable. Everything works....even have Android 4.2 keyboard, camera... ect

using ICS (Venom). i bought an HTC because of Sense.

After a number of attempts at JB I have elected to stick with ICS for the time being.
Not that I don't appreciate some of the improvements in JB but every ROM I tried just wasn't stable enough. I get better battery life and responsiveness with a fully tweaked install of an ICS sense ROM.

How much display times do you get before your battery dies? Also do you have a stock battery?

What's your favorite Sense 3.5 rom and why!

What is your preffered Sense 3.5 rom on Sensation today?
Is it the fastest one? The more stable one? the more ...?
I am using Senseay and though it's very stable I wonder if there is any rom faster and funnier out there.
LeeDroid's is the best one
InserCoin is the best ,then Elegancia
I'm currently using Sens-O-Matic (or so) and i like it. At the first day i had some random reboots but not anymore (just didnt accur anymore).
The good thing about it is, that you can choose which bloatware (HTC Hub, HTC Notes, HTC whatever) you want and what you don't want.
There is a thread with a poll, where you can see what people think. I think it is in forum general!
I agree with the poll, that is ARHD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849) is the best;-)
Why fast smooth and so on.
Elegencia is faster than Senseay? I mean in scrolling,drawer...
I which we can have the sgs2 speed with a sense 3.5 rom
The only 3.5 roms that ever ran up to snuff for me was Energy, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226564, and LeeDroid was probably just as good. I'm not sure how it is now, but when 3.5 roms first starting being uploaded, they ran really bad on my phone. They're good now though, but I prefer AOSP.

+1 Sense-O-Maniac is a very cool fast 3.5 rom!
I've really liked InsertCoin's stuff, especially 3.4.5 (the current one). It might be my imagination, but some of the releases are hit-and-miss, but 3.4.5 is absolutely a hit.
Smooth as silk, great battery life, no random reboots or force closures. Love it.
I also liked ARHD, but I had random reboots and boot loops that drove me insane. May have been the specific release I used though, who knows.
Sensay, insert coin, sense-o-maniac and digitalized are my favorites all are fast smooth and don't have bugs that I found just look at there features and pick

What about the new ''a la mode'' Elegencia rom?
I think I will choose between ARHD and Elegencia (for the themes).
Later when ICS port will be fully functional (Trip one) I will try it
I'm new to the sensation and I was going to post this same general question. I know many have their own favorite and it's an individual choice but I'd really like help narrowing things down. I came from the G2 and it seems like a LOT of these sensation roms are very close to each other, I'm having a difficult time trying to figure out the differences between them. I think it'd be helpful if more of you described WHY you like the one you like.
Synergy r93. Hands down nicest 3.5 ROM I have used.

My favorite ROM

I've spent the last two weeks trying out different ROMs. I was looking for one that had everything I wanted. I didn't find one, but this is what I've ended up with.
CM 7.1: it's my favorite. I love the speed (best Quadrant scores of all), flawless behavior, and ability to customize. My favorite tweak is the quick login (no Ok).
Flaw: FM radio is poor and needs Bluetooth turned on.
MIUI.us 1.12.9: (very close) second favorite. Use Go Launcher Ex as I don't like the MIUI launcher. FM radio works well, but makes noise when it starts/end.
Love the arrangement of Settings - three sensible tabs, not one long list.
ICS b4r1: (using it now) Love the new mail and browser apps. Browser comes with built-in sync of booths with Chrome.
Like the clean theme of the UI, in fact after seeing it, I installed the ICS themes for Go Launcher and CM. Can't wait for CM 9 to come out as it will combine all the goodness of CM with ICS.
Flaws: lots of them, but it IS just a beta.
Virtuous (unity 2.39) and Endymion 3.1: both of these are HTC Sense 3.0/5 ROMs. Beautiful look and feel - better than all other ROMs. Flawless FM radio. Great widgets.
Syncing with Exchange works well. Note, troubles syncing with Exchange calendar was the reason I went looking at other ROMs in the first place.
Dislike: not enough space on a window, so I use Go Launcher Ex. But this means I can no longer use the HTC widgets. And this is why I don't get the benefit of staying on an HTC Sense ROM.

Nice overview!
Personally, I'm mainly a Sense man, so i stick with Endymion as my daily driver.
I used MIUI for a bit, and agree with you about the settings arrangement.
Never really understood the hype for ICS, but when I tried it yesterday, I was blown away!
It's awesome! I think I could finally live with a AOSP ROM!
ICS is very consistent and clean.
I like CM7 purely for its endless advanced settings.
So I agree; CM9 will be so frickin' awesome!
Great thread man!

I have tried my fair share of roms.
I liked oxygen as it was pure aosp clean and quick. But it just wasn't fancy enough for me.
Tried most sense roms but I can't put my finger on why I can't stick with them. Suppose its just to normal and what's supposed to be on my phone.
Cm7 was good quick and fully functional I liked it a lot.
I'm on miui 1.11.25 at mo as had some issues with latest builds. Miui is what I always seem to stick with. Like you said settings menu is good. I'm addicted to changing the way my phone looks daily ( sad I know).
Haven't tried ics yet waiting for it to be fully functional before I do incase it taints my experience of it, but it all sounds good so far seems the egl issue has slowed progress down alot hope they fix it soon.
For now though I'll stick with miui but I'm getting itchy fingers again may have to change, maybe I'll give sense another chance

I've tried CM7, then LBC Mod, then Hyperion...for me I would say Hyperion is my favorite ROM as I have not installed other ROM for the past one months...hehe...before this constantly changing ROM...love android!!
ICS is the best really! Looks so nice
CM7
I have only tried CM7, looks good!
During my "investigation" of the various roms, I ran the Quadrant Standard test. CM was the fastest, closely followed by MIUI. The stock HTC ROM fared the worst.

Nope
Apologies, in my previous post i was meant to say I CAN'T tell the speed difference between MIUI and CM7.
I'm saying Quadrant Scores don't do justice of actual phone performance.
For me even though CM7 scores a giver score than MIUI, doesn't mean its faster
I tested both, and speed feels the same!
Also for e.g, Hyperion ROM scores 2500+ points, whereas Endymion scores only 2000+ points.
But in use, Endymion is MUCH faster and smoother, (as HTC optimised sense 3.5 better for single core)
Hope that clarifies - don't always truest quadrant!

I agree that user perception does not necessarily correlate with performance scores. I never felt that the stock HTC ROM was slow, yet it had poor Quadrant scores, mostly due to the database I/O section.
The performance scores simply give an objective assessment of *some* of the system's behaviour.

I don't see point of quadrant scores. I'm not bothered how quick my phone performs pointless tests but how good it feels when I use it. A good rom is far more personal then a bunch of scores. For me its about settings and customization so I like to use miui. Its all personal choice

I have a one newbie question...
If you try some new ROM youre data was lost? All youre application and all data on phone?
Only if you don't back them up! I use Titanium Backup (available on Market) to take copies if all my apps and their data.
I also use 4EXT Touch (used to use Clockwork Mod ROM manager, also available on Market) to take a full copy of my current system before I install a new one.

The HTC camera its a pretty good thing! I'll totally give it a shot!
It will be better with a sense base. Cm and aokp are just not stable enough to use as a base.for the sensation they used a sense base as well and it worked perfect

I'm glad to see One S users will have a choice. When this becomes official MIUI.us will release both, as I will be continuing my CM9 based port. The different ROMS will have different advantages over the other. I've never actually used one of these sense-based roms but some of the complaints have been file size and theme compatibility. But like I said we will release both versions just like we currently do with the Sensation.

Theme compatability is a big issue phone and camera and other frameworks don't theme cause of the sense framework. So it depends if u want a themable cm9 version with bugs. Or a non themable version with no bugs. Its a tough choice.
But the sense version didn't seem to loose any speed compared to the cm9 counterpart at least on the sensation

I tried to figure out what Sense 4.1 was, and after some searching and stuff I figured out most of the changes seems to be in Rosie. It is smoother because they have removed some of the 3D effects, and also added a fade effect. The thing is, the EXACT same behaviour is on the latest TrickDroid roms which are based on the latest 4.0.4 roms from htc. So we already have it in our latest updates, it's just not called 4.1

Link? Where did you read about Sense 4.1?
If that's really a screenshot of what it looks like, I don't really like the bezel they've added to the border of things. I prefer the flatter black with the pinstripes that Sense 4.0 has.
I wonder when we get JB it will come with a Sense upgrade (4.1/4.5), or stick with 4.0.
Android4.1+Sense4.X
HTC make a great progress.Hope .
If the JB update comes with a Sense update as well, that would probably mean a full wipe-wouldnt it? The whole reason behind HTC not giving DHD ICS was because it would require a full wipe!
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
No it wouldn't the reason they didn't give dhd ics because they would of had to make the system partition bigger which would of taken away like 40mb of space to the user that's all and One S wouldn't need it coz it has huge internal storage compared to dhd.

Sense 4.1 changes
There are more changes than just a smoother Rosie.
(I would have posted the original link but it seems that newbs like myselft can't post any links...)
1. Live wallpaper lag has been fixed.
2. There’s a dedicated button in the Camera app to switch between Front/Backward facing cameras. (earlier you’d have to go into the menu for that.)
3. A dedicated button to switch tabs in the browser. (You’d have to go into the menu for that, too)4.
4. Complete removal of all 3D-Effects in the launcher leading to a completely lag-free experience.
5. Probably the most important- Rebased on Android 4.0.4
6. Added ability to remap the recent apps button/ Long-press recent apps/ Long-press Home as Menu. (yes, it removes the Virtual menu bar) under Settings->Display, Gestures and Buttons
7. New, blazing fast kernel. We mean it. It scored a pretty impressive 59oo+ in Quadrant benchmark (compared to 5100+ on Sense 4)
8. Wifi-dropping/ Icon showing weak signal Fixes.
9. Better Battery life- 5 Hour+ Screen-on time as compared to a measly 3 Hour+ on Sense 4.
If you try the "HTC One maXimus V2.2" rom you can see all the changes for yourself.
Rosie is way smoother (even smoother than the ultra smooth Rosie addon for Sense 4) + the drawer won't lag any more.
Battery life is also better...
I will wait for team venom to out their new viper rom because I want all the tweeks, but sense 4.1 is a very good and anticipated upgrade.
(Waiting for HTC one X with Jelly Bean)
Ah, I see. Sounds promising!

Will this be ported to the one s then? I guess that's the only reason it's been posted here...

Sorry I was thinking 4.0.4 with key mapping..and no we won't port it from the X because the X is nearly double the resolution of the S, and that would be massive resizing. I don't think anyone wants to do that
Does anyone knows if the new update will fix the crackling noises in Skype?

I think Skype has to do that. Our device is not listed as 'officially supported' by Skype. I remember having green video results with my friends when video calling as well, but that was about a month ago.
Sense 4.1+Android 4.0.4 is a joke on my One X, nothing new to give it a new Sense version, so nothing you miss guys which can not be reached with a Custom ROM here

Good to hear. The new base 2.21 does infact bring many of the 4.1 improvements. one thing I would like to see that hasnt been carried across from the one X update is the dedicated camera button to switch between front & back. Cant see it when I open the camera!

+1, it all depends on what you want your phone to do and one that makes you love your phone
Try a few of them and then stick with The One.
This will probably narrow your options:
Gingerbread: mainly functionality and stability, great battery life.
ICS: Eye candy, stable, almost everything functional (look in the OPs for what doesn't)
Jelly Bean: Still developing but quite stable, fast (thank you butter )
Sent from my sweet & buttery Infuse
It's true... "Best" is in the eye of the ROM Holder...
Do you want a customised build of the default OS version? (Gingerbread)
Or do you want to try something new and cutting edge? (Ice Cream Sandwich or Jellybean)
Personally, I had a lot of issues with stock and ROMs of Froyo and Gingerbread on my Infuse.
This is often not the case for users, it seems... But it was hell for me.
I decided to give Ice Cream Sandwich a try when a stable build finally came out, and decided to try out Paranoid Android, due to the interesting aspect of tablet style options on the phone.
In my opinion, my phone has never ever run so great in its life!
So, for me, Paranoid Android ICS is definitely the best!
For you? Well, read the features of each rom, check the screenshots and read the user feedback, and make a choice for yourself!
It make a few different tries to find one you settle best with.
As for me... Paranoid Android was JUST upgraded to Jellybean after the stable release of CyanogenMod 10.
I know where MY next move is. =D
Good luck, and happy flashing!
I agree. It's all in what you are looking for. You'll probably end up trying several before you find one that works for you. For me its Caty ROM oc to 1.6. My phone is no where near as fast with other roms. The main thing I do on my phone is games and normal phone use text, calls etc. I want my phone to snap when I use it. I have no lag on the phone or any game. Modern combat 3 etc. FPS (according to Nena) run 53-55fps. Far lower scores on other roms. And you can see the difference in performance. But after flashing several roms and reading problems, comments etc it seems that not all infuses like the same roms. People having problems where others dont. So just try some ROMs out yourself. Read the first post of different ROMs, look at screen shots, read a few posts. And flash the ones you are interested in. Maybe check Odin/Heimdall incase something goes wrong with a flash.

"best" rom is relative. i'm using paranoid android jelly bean. it's pretty awesome but "best" i don't know.
i'd say cm9 is best, the only real flaw is that the tourch feature of the camera flash doest work like it should. cm10 and other jb builds have a few flaws, wifi tether has a fix but no kernel was compiled yet as far as i know, give that a day or two. also agps doesn't work and cm10 is only so far along in development, there has been wonky stuff happening with trebuchet launcher for some people.
as far as samsung roms go i wouldn't run a custom one. maybe a custom kernel. but all the deodexed roms i used had bugs, all of them. i've deodexed it myself but had bugs (force close on start, broken email app, other obscure menus that sometimes didn't work) and don't have the skills to debug it.

Holy crap! Those are out now?
Bloody hell, I'm way behind with my crappy G4 Infuse!
...does the song play during boot up?
(And why am I reminded of that Ozzy Ozborurne Best Buy commercial? "What's a 6G?" ... "What's a Bieber??")
Glad to see so many others love Paranoid Android as well. =D
