One X Sense 4.1 - HTC One S

What about that guys? Sense 4.1 on HOX (i think?) from Android Revolution HD facebook page:

Anything about HOS?

I tried to figure out what Sense 4.1 was, and after some searching and stuff I figured out most of the changes seems to be in Rosie. It is smoother because they have removed some of the 3D effects, and also added a fade effect. The thing is, the EXACT same behaviour is on the latest TrickDroid roms which are based on the latest 4.0.4 roms from htc. So we already have it in our latest updates, it's just not called 4.1

Link? Where did you read about Sense 4.1?
If that's really a screenshot of what it looks like, I don't really like the bezel they've added to the border of things. I prefer the flatter black with the pinstripes that Sense 4.0 has.

I wonder when we get JB it will come with a Sense upgrade (4.1/4.5), or stick with 4.0.

Android4.1+Sense4.X
HTC make a great progress.Hope .

If the JB update comes with a Sense update as well, that would probably mean a full wipe-wouldnt it? The whole reason behind HTC not giving DHD ICS was because it would require a full wipe!
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2

No it wouldn't the reason they didn't give dhd ics because they would of had to make the system partition bigger which would of taken away like 40mb of space to the user that's all and One S wouldn't need it coz it has huge internal storage compared to dhd.

Sense 4.1 changes
There are more changes than just a smoother Rosie.
(I would have posted the original link but it seems that newbs like myselft can't post any links...)
1. Live wallpaper lag has been fixed.
2. There’s a dedicated button in the Camera app to switch between Front/Backward facing cameras. (earlier you’d have to go into the menu for that.)
3. A dedicated button to switch tabs in the browser. (You’d have to go into the menu for that, too)4.
4. Complete removal of all 3D-Effects in the launcher leading to a completely lag-free experience.
5. Probably the most important- Rebased on Android 4.0.4
6. Added ability to remap the recent apps button/ Long-press recent apps/ Long-press Home as Menu. (yes, it removes the Virtual menu bar) under Settings->Display, Gestures and Buttons
7. New, blazing fast kernel. We mean it. It scored a pretty impressive 59oo+ in Quadrant benchmark (compared to 5100+ on Sense 4)
8. Wifi-dropping/ Icon showing weak signal Fixes.
9. Better Battery life- 5 Hour+ Screen-on time as compared to a measly 3 Hour+ on Sense 4.
If you try the "HTC One maXimus V2.2" rom you can see all the changes for yourself.
Rosie is way smoother (even smoother than the ultra smooth Rosie addon for Sense 4) + the drawer won't lag any more.
Battery life is also better...
I will wait for team venom to out their new viper rom because I want all the tweeks, but sense 4.1 is a very good and anticipated upgrade.
(Waiting for HTC one X with Jelly Bean)

Ah, I see. Sounds promising!

Sorry I was thinking 4.0.4 with key mapping..and no we won't port it from the X because the X is nearly double the resolution of the S, and that would be massive resizing. I don't think anyone wants to do that

Does anyone knows if the new update will fix the crackling noises in Skype?

I think Skype has to do that. Our device is not listed as 'officially supported' by Skype. I remember having green video results with my friends when video calling as well, but that was about a month ago.

Good to hear. The new base 2.21 does infact bring many of the 4.1 improvements. one thing I would like to see that hasnt been carried across from the one X update is the dedicated camera button to switch between front & back. Cant see it when I open the camera!

[Q] CM7 On Sensation

I asked Cyanogen if we should expect Cyanogenmod on the Sensation, and he's definitely leaning towards YES. He's thinking about buying a Sensation himself. I'd rather get a phone that I know the man himself will have it. This news, is great news! I'm excited! Does this change anyones mind about getting this phone?

Excellent news!
Wow!
The most important feature of this phone is becoming true . Beyond this point I don't care if the devil himself would be holding the phone in his death grip
Thought that someone will propably bring CM7 to this, but after having Nexus One and having the honor to use CM6 and CM7 on it, the dream about Steve himself changing from same phone to same phone at the same time feels like dream come true
Be very welcome Steve !
Cyan is the best mod maker. Ill glady use his rom.
well still need the phone unlocked before we get anything, htc is yet to come with their magic they promised

Nice. They also posted that the S is coming off soon.
i didn't know what CM7 was, so i went to check it out. found a youtube video with a guy doing a detailed review of CM7 on a galaxy S (not S2). and, i gotta say the performance was absolutely mindblowing. if my sensation was just half as smooth as that... MAN. what astonished me most was how easy he pulled down the notification bar... just a swipe down from the top and it came down, following his finger perfectly in a buttery smooth motion. that does not work at all on my sensation. in fact i stopped trying to swipe the notification bar down cause it's too hard to accomplish, always takes 3 or more swipes to do it - and when it finally comes down, compared to that CM7 on galaxy S video, it stutters down and looks just awful while doing it. damn. i felt really good about my sensation (coming from a blackstone touch hd) but now that i've watched that video... i'm pissed at HTC for making my phone look like a weakling compared to older single core android phones... when i decided to get the sensation, i never would have thought that the UI responsiveness and overall snappieness were going to be my biggest issues with this 1,2 GHz DUAL CORE "uberphone".
i know this doesn't exactly belong in this thread, sorry. didn't feel like it was worth opening another *****ing-about-the-performance-thread.

I heard that s-off is here so I went and bought mine today.
Will be good to see CM7 on Sensation in the future, I just hope it performs well. When I had my Desire I found CM7 to be a tad buggy (random restarts mostly and boot loops) even on a stable release, same thing on a friends Desire HD. For this reason I turned away from CM7 and flashed LeeDrOid.
I'm currently running Android Revolution HD on my Sensation but when CM7 comes out for it I'll give it a go.

CM7 has always been super stable for me.
When in doubt, fastboot wipe, then flash, then don't set up right away but let it sit there on the sign-in screen for 5 minutes before you touch it.
I've been running cm7 on my Glacier for like 7 months and it's way more stable than the stock rom, lol.
I cannot wait.... stepping up from good old hd2 to the sensation with CM7 should be amazing....
I've heard something about, that CM on HTC devices is allways WITHOUT HTC Sense.
Is this correct?
On my htc Desire i've used LeeDroid and InsertCoint but never CM... But as it looks like CM will be the first ROM with android 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 for our sensation. So finally google talk with video will be available...

CyanogenMOD ROM is AOSP Android (with tons of addons/tweaks/etc) with ADW.Launcher as the built in Launcher.
No Sense. Never will Sense be on a CyanogenMOD ROM.
why the hell would you WANT Sense on a custom rom?? Sense is what makes your phone BUGGY and SLOW! My first phone was the original Desire (bought it in China, brought back to the US, unable to use 3G as a result of it being a European model with no American radio bands) with stock Froyo and 2.2. I rooted it and put CM7 on (2.3.3, later updated to 2.3.4 as a result of the nightlies).. it easily ran 3x faster and much smoother...
CM > all.
Sense = garbage, even 3.0..
I could have picked up another Sensation while I was in China for Steve to abuse, lol..
Really hope this comes out soon.... Tired of all of these sense port roms. I just want my stock gingerbread.... I can't believe that I miss my nexus one because of this...

Seems MIUI is working on getting their new version working on the HTC One S! They say testing by the Beta Team will start soon!
Looks like it includes the original HTC Camera App? (unless that's like that in very MIUI V4?)
Who's thinking of using this instead of Sense or AOSP, when it's released?

I will try it, if it fast like the AOSP, becuase now i have some data connection problems...
And i like the HTC Camera..
VERY nice, finally with a working Camera.
Im probably gonna switch over to MIUI, since I prefer to customize the UI the way I want to make my device even more unique :-3
The HTC camera its a pretty good thing! I'll totally give it a shot!
It will be better with a sense base. Cm and aokp are just not stable enough to use as a base.for the sensation they used a sense base as well and it worked perfect

I'm glad to see One S users will have a choice. When this becomes official MIUI.us will release both, as I will be continuing my CM9 based port. The different ROMS will have different advantages over the other. I've never actually used one of these sense-based roms but some of the complaints have been file size and theme compatibility. But like I said we will release both versions just like we currently do with the Sensation.

Theme compatability is a big issue phone and camera and other frameworks don't theme cause of the sense framework. So it depends if u want a themable cm9 version with bugs. Or a non themable version with no bugs. Its a tough choice.
But the sense version didn't seem to loose any speed compared to the cm9 counterpart at least on the sensation

I loved MIUI on my G2x, but I've been hesitating to root my HOS solely because of the camera. If they keep it in the official Rom I will puke rainbows and root faster than Usain Bolt can run 100 meters.

What flavor of Android do you have?

Hello everyone
I'm conducting some research and I would like to know from you what version of Android you're rocking!
Once you done voting, reply on why you're using a certain version of Android (i.e. No stable ROMs -just an example, there are plenty stable ROMs-, no good battery life on certain version of android, to lazy to update etc.)
Then when you're done here go over to elvisypi's thread and vote on which ROM you're using
Thanks!

The reason is Sense, I love the HTC style! I will get on JB when HTC releases updates for One S, with the first porting.
I'm on CM10 (AKA JellyBean), Sense is amazing, better than any skinned Android OS on other brands, but i've found it to lag after heavy use and needs a reboot to kick up again. i never saw that on CM.

I can understand where you coming from. Sense is very "bloaty"... But there is things you can do to cut it down like ROM cleaner and freezing apps you don't use :cyclops:
This poll would be better if you had it set up like this:
Sense 3.0 GB
Sense 3.5 GB
AOSP GB (CM7, etc)
Sense 3.6 ICS
AOSP ICS (CM9, AOKP, etc)
Sense 4.1
AOSP Jellybean (CM10, AOKP-JB, PA, etc)
Sense 4.5 Jellybean (just for future-proofing the poll)
AOSP Jellybean 4.2 (again, for future-proofing)
That way you can see exactly the more detailed preferences of the community (and also the broad preferences) rather than only the broad preferences.
No harm, just a suggestion

My only problem with JellyBean so far is none of the ROMs give a really smooth status bar feel, and thats really important to me...
Also my phone gets hot really quickly with JellyBean ROMs and the battery life isn't to good...
I was on Cmx by Bruce and it was good except the wifi signal is too weak. My phone could hardly catch any when I'm at school. So now I'm on ViperS 1.4 and it's the best sense 4 rom for the Sensation. It's very stable, great battery life and smooth performance.

I am using European ICS 4.0.3 and Sense 3.6 stock rom, version 3.33.401.53 to be precise. Since the last .53 update that rolled out in europe, sense crashes have become quier rare. Its very good and stable now.
So moved from Apex launcher to completely stock experience. Working great for me.
Custom Roms were never my liking coz of the kernel changes devs do. I prefer running completely stock roms if there are not any serious issues

I'm using ICS 4.0.3 and 3.33 firmware also I'm using jelly bean Android version 4.1.2 with paranoid Android by Dragun Korr. It's stable fast smooth, and you can turn your phone into a tablet, or a phone/tablet hybrid, or leave it a phone. It has a ARM V 7 processor . I really love this rom and Android version. I've had no trouble what so ever with it! Wi-Fi working, tethering working, no reboots, no lag, simply awesome! Use it as my daily driver. Development is very active and alive with this rom. Always improving or adding something else! It's been the best rom I've tired in my opinion! I don't miss sense for a second. Tons of customization available!

imho, cm9 and sense on ics are the most stable and battery friendly roms you can get, for now. JB gave me a headache every time i had a look on the battery usage graph. but still, once you go JB it's hard to go back to sense or cm9. cheers.
ICS.
HTC Sense has a lot of useful stuff. Internet Pass-Through, Contact Sync is nice to have.
Tried a lot of JB ROMs still went back to Sense 3.6 and on rare cases, Sense 4.
Frankensteins Aokp Jellybean 4.1 here! Best battery life....solid and stable. Everything works....even have Android 4.2 keyboard, camera... ect

using ICS (Venom). i bought an HTC because of Sense.
After a number of attempts at JB I have elected to stick with ICS for the time being.
Not that I don't appreciate some of the improvements in JB but every ROM I tried just wasn't stable enough. I get better battery life and responsiveness with a fully tweaked install of an ICS sense ROM.
How much display times do you get before your battery dies? Also do you have a stock battery?

Though I don't run it, macek's is an "AOSP style" rom, and isn't AOSP at all, but sense-based with elements of the sense ICS OTA removed, theming, and mods adapted from AOSP. The file size of the official ICS RUU is huge, 550+MB, it would be unrealistic to expect even a slimmed (desensed) rom based from it to be under 100mb and retain essential functionality... macek's rom is roughly 250mb in size...
I'm currently running it and it doesn't feel bloated at all. Battery life is superb as well.

People have reported stats similar to those running UnSense on a newer oem battery.

Is this with an extended battery/rezound battery, or is this with the OEM HTC battery that comes with the Tbolt? I would flip of this was with the latter..

Can't post in the actual thread yet but I'm liking this ROM a lot. It's pretty much Ice Ice Baby with some changes. I replaced the mms apk with the one from Liquid ICS (because emoji and a few other issues with it) and I replaced Google Now with the Google search files from Ice Ice Baby (because it was force closing and Google Now always sucks on tb roms anyway).
Also switched to Nova Launcher since I already had the paid version.
I would love to be able to find a stock messaging apk with emoji AND a dark theme. Also I removed the contacts app and left the HTC people app because even though it's ugly, the contacts app was buggy and doesn't have the Facebook link (and I'm too ocd to keep both).
I would love to be able to customize the lock screen as well.
Overall I'm just happy this outdated phone is still getting some love.

There's currently an SMS app being written by someone named Shortfuse. It's still in rather early beta, but I'm looking forward to exclusively using it once it is fully finished with a basic feature set (mms, etc)
So the MacecksMod thread has been locked. something about "use your own base" or something. Whatever, I'm not interested in dev drama. I am on version 2 of this ROM, didn't want to skip to Version 3 with the bluetooth problems people were reporting.
So....what now? is the ROM dead now that the main dev thread was locked by XDA? Any other forum I can get updates? I'm not interested in stupid dev drama, I just want a solid ICS ROM for my Thunderbolt.

I'm not sure. I'm having some trouble with root on v3, but I don't use bluetooth. Hopefully it'll be sorted out soon?

Thanks, I checked it out and downloaded it. Concept looks cool but still obviously needs some work. I wonder if he'll be able to get the contacts pictures that were synced from Facebook to work. That only seems to work in stock messaging for me. Also working emoji in would be great. I know it's stupid but it's annoying to get texts with boxes in them.

I'm on 2.0 and pretty happy with the way it is now. Like I said in my other post I fixed the Google search and sms problems with apk's from other roms. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether mms works because I never use it.

closing this thread as well.
Rom will be back up soon as Jester gets time to put together his own stock base to build off of.

There's a lot of discussion around about that update, ports and roms to come. I don't consider myself a noob either until I commit some mistakes, like posting in the wrong place or not reading anything around (either general or development sections have info on some future projects).
Check the ViperS thread, they are planning a release soon (just don't go asking for ETA's like that).
Also check general discussion, there's threads with a self explanatory title.
When there will be a fully functional Sense 5 UI port then it will be POSTED HERE! Work to some new port is not easy! A mighty lot of bugs and not working properly functions and a lot of testing testing testing.... So you - home user get almost the full 'official' experiance!
ViperS is working on something and I guess sometime in this year their project will be finished for sensation!
I repeat myself its a very hard work to build completely new port on some framework that isn't 'officially' supported by HTC... easy part is when its is already done and on that base you build you'r ROM.... Need to wait and eventually there will be one... If you cannot wait there are skins... or new phones!

Let's hope what you're talking about comes to fruition.
If that's not a joke, that is.

From what I've seen, Venom is working on a Sense 4.5 for JB (Per venom hub news). Which from what I've seen, I would prefer to Sense 5, But variety is always nice.

Well not sure what u mean, of course, i could port HTC ONE rom, but we have problems even with perfect donor rom (VILLEC2), and dont wana even think how a port would end up, also porting sense it self onto VILLEC2 port is posibble but its also tricky, and would produce bugs.
So theres no point to bother as HTC gona release sense 5.0 relative soon for ONE series...

Thread moved to correct sub forum.
I believe it's actually possible and might happen by the end of the year or something. HTC already officially announced its plans to update all One series to Sence 5 and that includes our One S brother...
As for me, I just wish CM to get even better, cause Sense makes no sense to me - waaay too heavy & slow compared to stock interface of CM 10.1.
Cheers
