[Q] Signature Verification - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello folks I have the US Verizon version of the Galaxy S III and when I try to install a rom from either Rom Toolbox or Rom Mananger I get sent to the recovery screen. Once I navigate to the selected rom I set a Signature Verification error and the little Android fella drops. What can I do to fix this. Not all roms act this way but this Miui rom doesn't seem to install. As a matter of fact, any rom I install via the recovery acts this way.
Please help. Thank you.

What recovery are you using? Instead of Rom manager use ez recovery and flash either cwm or TWRP and then flash the rom. Check the md5 of the rom to make sure it matches. I also think there is a setting in a custom recovery for signature verification

You cant flash roms from stock recovery...you need cwm or twrp recovery.

Being that I'm a newbie with this particular phone, I need help in terms of the method you guys are suggesting. I either use Rom Manager or Rom toolbox for flashing but was only successful with Rom Manager for at least two roms but were unstable. Please get back to me on steps on how to get around the Signature Verification where the little Android falls with a red error message.
Thanks.

Thank you for all the advice. I just installed Goo Manager which works with TWRP. I hope it works. I'll update as soon as possible.

[FIX] Status 7 in Clockwork Recovery on Nexus S 4G during zip flash

I kept getting flash issues after using the unlockr's root method on my Nexus S 4G, specifically the inability to flash roms due to a status 7 error.
BEFORE you run around searching every forum, or use someone else's old nandroid to revert to 2.3.1, or do any craziness... if you flashed Clockwork via fastboot, install ROM Manager from the market, and install the latest ClockworkMod recovery via Rom Manager, and give it another try.
Hopefully this is easy enough to find, that no one else has this problem.
Happy hunting
Hi,
This didn't help
I installed ROM Manage from Play Store and tried to install ClockworkMod recovery from ROM Manager. Howeve, it kept on getting stuck while installing ClockworkMod recovery....
Are there any other solutions for Status 7 error?
Flash the latest CWM manually via fastboot. Have a look at the Nexus S rooting guides, they all detail how to flash a custom recovery.
Yep, it was all about updating the CWM. In my case I had to update it to the one that supports touch mode (don't remember the version number). Once that was done all went quite smoothly.

I don't read every thread, and I don't know where you got this from. was it stated that this is in the format required for i9003, or did you just pick it up from somewhere else and try to install it?
if it's not for the i9003, then you have to re-flash some stock rom to fix your problem.
if it's for i9003, did you ensure you're using the same fw as was designated for the ics port? for example, is it for kpq and you're using kpq? if not, then you have to restore the backup you made before attempting this. if you forgot to do that, then you have to flash a stock rom to fix your problem. if they were matching and you're having problems, why not ask for help in the thread where you got it from?

Thanks for you review and comment.
First of all, i would like to stated that i have fully meet the requirement of flashing a custom rom. I'm user of KPQ of course i will find a custom rom for my i9003 KPQ. The purpose of this tread is to mention why every time i flashing a new custom would have the same problem occur whereby my device always stuck at the booting logo or reboot over and over again. This has make me troublesome to reflash back to stock rom when every time i failed to do that.
First, i root.
2nd, install rom manager
3rd, Flash CWM recovery
4th, do nandroid backup (use rom manager)
5th, application & data backup (use titanium)
6th, then istall .zip (custom rom)
Is't i missed any step before i flash a new custom rom??
What about deodex ?? it's necessary for us to deodex before we proceed to update our device?
However, i have fully meet all the requirement but why every time i flash different custom rom also failed.
Thanks again for your kindly advice

oops, first, I misread 9lock as clock
then, when flashing a custom ROM, in general, you must be deodexed first. if it's required, I would expect the dev to mention it in their thread. after flashing custom rom, you must also wipe dalvik cache. I don't know if it's necessary, but I do both dalvik and "plain" cache after flashing. have you done these two steps?
then, if you're installing the alpha ics release from the other thread, as stated, it's alpha, so not bug free. in general, custom ROMs will have at least one or two bugs, due to not every potential possible combination of operations can be performed without extensive testing and correction, and especially on our phone, the testing isn't so extensive since there aren't so many users.
edit: I found the thread you're referring to. it's "RC2", which means not necessarily stable (Release Candidate 2). go ask tripin for some help
Thank you for your advice.
Now i can taste my new themes with having a few tiny bugs. I'm so impress you can solve my problem. By the way, i will post up a new thread which guide other people to install custom rom for detail step. TQ

oops, my bad. as you can see, I was conversing with the OP, and this thread was actually for another specific problem, but since the title is a generality, here goes:
first, follow these steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19663863&postcount=754
then install cwm, put kishen's rom on your sd card, and flash and wipe normal and dalvik cache

[Q] Can I remove ROM Manager and its recovery lock?

I installed ClockworkMod's ROM Manager v.4.8.0.6 which includes ClockworkMod (CWM) to backup stock ROM on brand new Samsung i9000m.
Problem #1 with ROM Manager
CWM won't install because it does not have verified signatures which my device requires to install it.
I removed ROM Manager and re-booted.
I installed ROM Toolbox.
Problem #2 with ROM Manager
With ROM Toolbox, when trying to backup ROM I get the message:ROM Manager blocked other apps from creating backups in recovery unless ROM Manager Premium is installed.
Once you install ROM Manager Premium you can use ROM Toolbox to backup your ROM. From stock Recovery I wiped and restored, tried all over again with same results. I can reboot into stock recovery, but I cannot backup my ROM.
This is bad. No application should hook into and lock-up your device in such a way that you cannot get it properly recovered, or prevent another application from properly backing-up your ROM.
I have sent emails and tweets to the developer but have yet to receive a reply.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I cannot proceed until I get a full backup, which from the message I am getting, ROM Manager is preventing from doing unless I send money.
you can search google or xda for cwm recovery or amonra and flash it

[Q] error message with clockworkmod and 3e recovery install

so i poked around on the infuse 4g forums, and didn't find much relating to clockworkmod, sooo i apologize if this is repeating another thread
i have a few questions about a rooted samsung infuse 4g on at&t. i am very new to this. my phone had been having random shutdown issues, and was reverting app settings to the initial settings. i'm hoping a root can help with this.
i installed clockworkmod recovery on the device (which requires 3e recovery as well).
after placing the files in the directed spots, and while booting into recovery and selecting "reinstall packages", i got the error message "E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted." for both recovery installs.
both were in the proper place and all, i'd triple checked everything. i attempted to "backup current rom" using rom manager and got the same message. the backup file was never created.
2nd question:
if i can't fix this, would it be a bad idea to forget it and flash a rom via odin instead? i assume (optimistically) that the problem is with the install and not the phone itself.
3rd question:
i've backed up all apps and info with titanium backup, do i need to backup my current rom? (firmware version 2.2.1 kernel version 2.6.32.9 no custom rom or anything, just rooted)
Did you install 3e or clockwork recovery first? I he the same happen to me because I flashed clockwork from rom manager before I got 3e recovery taken care of. If so, uninstall rom manager, install it again and flash clockwork recovery. It worked for me.
Sent from my Infuse 4g running MIUI v1.12.23
I installed clockwork first, assumed it didn't matter >,< do i need to remove 3e as well and start totally over? thanks so much! i figured it was something simple like that. I'll try it out

1. You might not want to back up anything with cwm. At least, I don't. Bad things happen when you try to restore them.
Rooting won't make a difference.
Back up your contacts and your apps only.
2. you can flash with odin or heimdall. if you go odin, use h8rift's.
3. just back up the apps. no need for froyo 2.2.1. gtg's and h8rift already created the orignal image
Great, then that's taken care of. Let me see if I'm understanding correctly; if I ever need to unroot, the stock rom will be available with h8rift? Therefore, no need to backup the current rom.
2. I will try that. Do you have a preference between odin and heimdall?
Before flashing and whatnot, would it be a good idea to uninstall 3e recovery, cwm recovery, or rom manager? or all 3? If I should uninstall rom manager, would a replacement app be useful and which one?
Read my post ...top to bottom.
got it. thanks
just rebooted into recovery using rom manager. i am still getting the same error message. how can i fix this? i did not see a solution in your article, nor did i see one in the forums for the infuse 4g.

Download sgs kernel flasher and flash entropys daily driver with it. There are multiple other threads with this problem resolved. Most of the old methods dont work if you just got your infuse and it came with 2.3.6 on it, but from what I've read(yes, even though I don't have the problem I found how to resolve it) the sgs kernel flasher is the way to go.
I would help more, but if you can't read enough to figure out the process, then maybe you shouldn't. Sorry, I'm just a bit bugged by this being reposted in more than 5 new threads very recently. I'm not trying to be a ****, but everybody just needs to take it slow and read. Most problems have been solved for the most part.

(Q) Error on the Samsung S2 // I give a reward!

Hi guys,
I followed some steps on xda and I rooted my Samsung S2. The program superuser is running on it and I installed Rom manager.
My cellphone runs the following kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKL1-CL809037
When I reboot my cellphone in recovery mode, then it gives an error when I want to install a rom from SD card:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I don't know what to do or how to fix this. I give a 5$ paypal reward to the one that can help me.
Greetings!

You'll need CWM recovery to flash custom roms.
AFAIK you are able to flash it through rom manager or with Odin. With Odin, just find proper custom kernel with CWM recovery. For rom manager, I can't really help, because I'm using SGS which aren't supported in rom manager.
Sent from my sandwiched SGS
Kurre is correct. Do not use Rom manager to flash a custom recovery to the Galaxy S2. I tried it once on a test build of ICS and was able to boot into CWM once but the next time I tried it booted into the phones stock recovery. It won't always stick. I believe the recovery you are looking at is the phones stock recovery and you cannot flash an unsigned Rom with it. That's why you are getting the error.
Thanks for the responses.
So what should I do exactly? Do I need to change my kernel or should "re-root" my phone again?
Total noob here .
Thx in advance!
What Rom are you running? Unless you flashed a bare Rom only, most of them are packaged up with a kernel and a custom recovery. The short answer is yes, you need a kernel with a CWM based recovery. You'll have to flash it with Odin and make sure you get a version that works with your Rom
Maybe I'm confused and not helping you. What is a Samsung S2? I thought you were talking about a Galaxy S2.

As I said, flash custom kernel with CWM support with Odin. For example this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263838 has Odin package (tar). I'm still assuming you are using Samsung Galaxy S2 (gt-i9100)??
But before you flash anything with Odin, I'd suggest reading flashing tutorials..at least couple of times. So you'll know what you are doing and what to do if something goes wrong.

Indeed, it is a Samsung Galaxy S2, sorry for the misunderstanding.
i''l try your tips Kurre, i'll let you know something!
I have the stock recovery on my phone now running ICS while waiting for a new kernel to be released. It says 3e at the top like yours so that is definitely your stock Samsung recovery. You can't flash a new rom with that. Good luck and keeps us posted if you get it worked out. Search for Qbking77 on you tube. He has a video on how to flash with Odin. It's so easy even a caveman can do it.
