Sweet mother. We need a block on people who cannot adhere to a simple set of rules. I'm very close to giving up on forums altogether -- barely holding my patience.

lol. You complain and whine, but you still took the time to open another browser tab to find this thread for this person. If it bothers you that much, than simply don't reply. It's that easy to not let the internet get to your head.

Just follow MartyHulskemper's link. Though for next time; We have this bar, top right corner of your screen (unless you're on the app). It says "Search All Forums".

And therein lies the difference between a Youtuber and a true XDA member.
A Youtuber wastes a comment by commenting one another's actions. An XDA member complains, but is still helpful. Sadly, half of XDA these days consists of Youtubers.

Of course, you have simple youtube geeks, xda geeks, and people who actually have a life instead of reading hours of posts to fix a simple problem. I tend to spend hours of research to learn more about android. If everyone did research, then these boards will eventually get boring. People who ask these simple questions make it easier for the searchers to find the answer. So answer the question and know that you are helping more people than just the op.
On a side note, I don't comment on youtube. I only comment when someone is being a douche bag for no reason. If you feel that they are wasting your time by not searching, simply don't reply.

Same goes for you. Difference between me and you is that you are part of the illness of internet fora, while I try and keep it viable for us contributors to actually make ourselves useful.

You are absolutely wrong here. There is no merit in answering the same questions over and over and over. If everyone did research, we'd have like 15 threads in here with condensed information, all you needed to know to do whatever we would have found out. We would not have the like 200 useless threads with people asking trodden-path questions drowning the really interesting threads we have going as well.
On a side note, I don't comment on youtube. I only comment when someone is being a douche bag for no reason.

I pressed for adherence to the rules we have in here. Still, I helped out. That's what ShadowLea was referring to. You were just being a douchebag yourself, without providing any insight or information at all.

Then they will just ask over and over again, and bump, and bump, and bump some more.In the SGS2 community forum, we have lost some VERY, VERY good developers because of the n00bs asking these kinds of questions. WE HAVE A FAQ FOR A REASON. READ IT.
And whether you like it or not: we have RULES on XDA. SEARCH BEFORE POSTING. If you do not like it, go somewhere else. The internet is free for all, but you're not always free to do as you like -- just the same as with family birthdays: you're welcome to drop by, but keep your bloody pants on.

[Request] Use the search button first, please!

Hi everyone,
So I've seen this issue resurface many times in many different threads, most recently in the updating inspire thread. My requests are simple:
IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE FORUM, PLEASE USE THE SEARCH BUTTON BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION. IF THEN, YOU STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND, FEEL FREE TO ASK (AND MAKE SURE YOU MENTION THAT YOU TRIED).
IF YOU ARE ABOUT TO FLAME SOMEONE THAT DIDN'T SEARCH, BE POLITE. If you want to answer their question too, go ahead.
If someone doesn't answer their question but asks them to search first, please don't flame them either. It's absolutely useless to redo the debate that's been had many many times before. Some people prefer not to answer questions in these cases while others don't. Let's all live happily ever after and not get on each others' backs because we're all experienced and veteran users trying to help others out. There is no need to get testy or question why someone does or doesn't answer a question. To each their own.
Now, back to my ORD (obsessive rom-flashing disorder for you newbies)...
Agreed.
I try to be as polite as possible without compromising the message. Sometimes it's difficult not to come across like a jerk when all you have to communicate with is text and smilies.
I often start feeling bad, thinking I was too harsh, and end-up going back and trying to make amends, anyway.

I never feel bad about it.
I've been living in forums for far too long to fret over this. I have a whole like 15 posts here but started back over a yr ago with my Rhodium. Now I'm getting into the more modded styles and am enjoying passing on what I've read here even gotten a few other friends to join. All cause this forum has a huge database of knowledge with an actual small amount of flaming.

I've noticed. Your one of my heroes, actually.
I try not to get to upset or flame to much. But sometimes I cant help it lol. I just had someone tell me not to be a douche when I gave them the answer and told him to search. He said theres 214 pages on this thread. I have to admit I lost it called him out and said my fair share of bad words lol. And told him exactly what i searched for and what page to find the answer on. There is no excuse for ignorance or stupidity in this age of google and forums. I have come to find more often then not its laziness and just wanting someone to give them the answer rather then find it out. I personally find that I learn more when I search and usually find even more useful info out. That's my 2 cents.
Here is his comment with a quote of my original answer. (post number 2102)

P.S. I did apologize to the op for the flame also.
There is now excuse to reading; almost any answer is already posted. when I first joined XDA I spent 2 days solid just reading. If one does half as much as I did, you end up with a good sense of how rooting, flashing, customizing the Inspire is done and also use the IRC chat rooms.
Guys don't let up! I never got hurt by anyone here, it only inspires to search, read, AND LEARN!!!
Holding someone's hand never encourages or lets them learn!
This thread already exists, use the search button next time.
Jk jk that would be ironic no?

Glad you posted this, cause I missed your response. But dude, once in a while, someone could read over something easily. I shouldn't post this here, since this thread goes against flaming, but you were out of line. And by the way **** face,I unchecked the tell HTC box,it didn't work. But not being the newby you treated me like,I figured it out on my own. Your vision on someone not searching or being lazy,is outta this world ****ed up bro. You are the type of user who completely does not care about anything but trying to prove there intelligence. Here is what a user should do when having a problem:
1: read,read......read!
2: read over all you read, again
3: do a couple searches
4: retry what you did that caused the problem
5: after all that fails, ask the question you need an answer too
I DID ALL OF THAT YOU ASS.
I read all 200 and something pages of the thread before i ever asked my question, and as hard as it is for you to beleive,I read over what I was looking for.
And before any of you write this up as flaming, his whole post here was flaming me. Have a nice day captain douchebag

LOL! I think you posted that video in that thread too.
The reason search isn't as effective it could be is because there is so much duplicate content from noobs asking the same quetsions over and over.
In a way XDA site has become a end user support site more so than a tech/dev site.

Its not about whether or not people should search, im sure alot do and alot dont. Problem is some the the questions they are asking might be answered to someone who already knows the answer. To the one asking the question it was only partially answered in the post they searched for, then u get these forum nazi's jumping all over them saying search search search, usually the one saying that says it for post count or just to have something to say period, because they dont have any answers.
If i know the answer, I will answer it if it wasnt already answered. There are plenty nice peeps on here that answer, and not half assed. What is clear to peeps that have a good understanding of what there doing to begin with, is not always clear to someone with little to no knowledge of modding there phones.
Thanks to everyone here that does have the patience to help all the noobs out. If everyone was a smartass about everything what good would the forums be.

That's what all of this is about... Community moderation.. reminding people of the rules when mods aren't around to do it, which is a lot of the time.
But, as I'm finding out, it's not a very popular thing with a lot of people. I got accused of "acting like god of this forum," because I reminded someone, after that person had their question answered by another poster, to search a little better next time. It was one of the most commonly questions here.

Your rite. See knewbs can be aggrivating, but we were once all one our selves. And yes, knewbs should search and read first, and if they have a problem, then ask a question. But someone shouldn't jump down there throat off the bat, assuming they didn't search first. I mean, sometimes I have a hard time finding something by googlin it and my gf will find it with one search LOL. So its not just the knewbs clustering the place, its also people who Jump down there throat and cause an argument that lasts 2 pages worth of thread. Here's an example of how I think it should be done
Knewb: " i tried to install android evelution and keep getting reboots"
Member: " did you search?"
Knewb: "yes and I can't find anything on it"
Member: "ok try full wiping, then reflashing. If that doesent work, post back here and im sure we can help you out"
See,like give them an easy answer ya know? And if they cone back saying it didn't work, then its time to be the members of a great forum, and help the guy, atleast tell him what to read through to resolve the problem. On the other hand,if a knewb comes off like there not even willing to try and help there selves, then don't even respond. In the long run it will save a lot of space on the forum. Instead of being jerks,we can guide the knewbs to being a intelligent user, that way they will be the ones answering questions down the road. Of we did that, then it would save time for the more experienced users to make great stuff for us here at xda. I'm not taking up for knewbs here,I'm just saying that there not the only ones clustering the place. And I'm not talking about the guys who come off as a jerk because there responding to something over the internet,I mean the ones who snap on a knewb, without leaving nothing but an half ass answer, and a rude comment that leads to a huge argument.
My 2cents,I have plenty more

Rite. See the users that have knowledge, need to guide the knewbs so there will be more experienced users to do so. Sometimes I come off as taking up for the knewbs, but its just that the people that's been here a while or have intelligence about all this, can make this place better, and control situations if we just do like you said, and say hey "try searching a little bit next time bud" instead of "omg you rlidiot,go search before you post" ya know?

These are basic questions that have been answered 1000 times before.
You'd be amazed at how beneficial a little time spent searching would be...
First off let me apologize for Scotts response to you. It was neither helpful or informative.
In order to better help you, give us more details about the rommanager errors that you recieve. Have you considered flashing to another ROM? I use virtuous unity (now v1.25) and think it is rad. Overclocking is a pretty advanced skillset and difficult to master even for old pros. My inspire let's my ROM do the clicking for me, I love it.

My ears were burning for good reason.
Just to clarify... My post history speaks for itself. I'd say 6 or 7 out of every 10 of my posts are actually helping people, the other 3 or 4 of the 10 are telling it like it is.
I try to make them as sarcastic as I feel the situation requires, and trust me, it gets worse, but I restrain myself.
1 or 2 of those 3 or 4 "not so helpful" posts of mine, I'll often come back to the thread later on, and, if the poster has offered some degree of acknowledgement or reasonable justification for their lapse, I'll often apologize and even help... at that point.
Why not just help them in the first place?
Great question, glad you asked!
It's called. . . wait for it. . . behavior modification.
I've never started a single new thread, and I've managed to learn quite a bit in a short time. There's no excuse for others not using the existing knowledgebase that is already available to them here on XDA.
I feel it's only fair that people make a reasonable attempt to carry their fair share of the load... Learning how this **** works a little. . . just a little. . . on their own first, instead of assuming everyone here as nothing better to do than sit around waiting for the honor of answering the same questions over and over and over again.
Because if you don't nip it in the bud, often times, some people take it for granted, and start posting every little question that flows through their mind.
You aren't helping those people, you're making them lazy, and setting them up to get flamed harder in the future.

Indeed. I mean, it's next to impossible not to come off sounding like a prick. How does one get the message across otherwise?
Like I said, it's all in the way the initial question is posed that determines for me the way I'll respond, and the context.
When it comes to radios, I usually help with no reservations whatsoever, because it's a little trickier than other stuff, people get tripped-up on the different methods out there, and because it could mess up your phone if the perfect storm of events comes to pass for somebody.

When it comes to radios, I usually help with no reservations whatsoever, because it's a little trickier than other stuff, people get tripped-up on the different methods out there, and because it could mess up your phone if the perfect storm of events comes to pass for somebody.

Over clocking has gotten a little more difficult in certain roms. For instance,I run unity, and with the newer version they say don't use set CPU. Set CPU is just easier and does the work for you. Make sure to read the lee Droid thread through and through to see what others have had the best of luck with. As far as searching try "lee Droid overclock" to see if you can narrow it down quicker. The answer is out there, and with a little motivation you will be answering your own questions in no time. Also, don't be offended by any member that post a somewhat rude post, because those are the poeple who 9 times outta 10 answered the same question a million times. By these member being blunt,it sometimes actually helps the situation. What I do if someone answers my question with "its already been answered",I assume they have answered it somewhere or,since they know where the answer is,I go to there profile and read through the post's to help narrow it down. If you look through my profile I started a lot of threads my self, but quit because by sitting back and watching you learn more. Hell lately I haven't even been active in the dev threads lol. Anyways, best of luck to you new comer. It all gets easier in time

Why is this site so rude....

I can't stand to read this site these days. Everytime there's a post some self important ass has to jump and tell the person posting just how stupid they are for making the post. If you xda experts don't want to the rest if us here then lock it down. It would be no great loss. There's nothing here that can't be found in 100 other places.
For some reason this site seems to encourage rude moderators that love to trash people especially if someone failed to find existing threads using the terrible search tools provided. Maybe xda just can't carry the weight created by its success. One thing is sure and that is if it doesn't change a lot of people with go elsewhere....

Just take it with a grain of salt man...there are douches everywhere but I mean without the developers we wouldn't we able to accomplish much, if anything. And most of the other forums I've seen directly get their info or sources from XDA. Its ok, hug time?
Thanks for the hug... It's not about me I can hold my own and enjoy giving it back. What bothers me is when someone clearly struggling to post and is asking for hlep (And English may not even be their language) then one of these dicks trashes them. I just looked at one where a guy asked how to find a specific item, he got an answer that said check the xxxxx forum and we are not your slave so don't expect us to do it for you. Who talks like that and why aren't they stomped on for acting that way. He gave an answer then added the boot. I see that everywhere here.
The people who respond here do it for their own reasons. It's nice when people help and I have found some helpful threads. Still when I see stuff like the one above I start to think there are people here who get off on acting that way. Being a developer doesn't mean doing sick stuff is OK.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Yeah I agree but I mean some people are gonna be douches regardless of the question asked. I'm also inclined to think there are more decent people on XDA that like helping people as opposed to bashing them so even if the douche answers first, doesnt mean he represents XDA...
and this is why people lurk...
...or ... why i have lurked for so long
but now i just dont care...
so.... here goes nothing
There should be a Douche button, just like a Thanks button.

While I don't agree with people being rude please understand that this is a developers site. Not a tech support site, not a rom flashing site, and not a cool place to be site. It was made by developers for developers. And sometimes people can get rude. That is what the report button is for.
I like this site, and the way I see it,
They are sick of repeat posts, it's like people aren't bothering even looking anymore for what they need, they just post... As I have made that mistake a few times... That said i my self use the Site for my personal use or for the work I do but I ALWAYS give credit where it counts and is a great site for this Canadian to learn the ways of the DROID...
Also i mean maybe some devs like to poke fun, maybe they are tired of people taking time away from thier great works... Who knows, I talk to, a few decent people on here and have learnt alot and intended on learning more when my desktop is back up and running...

i agree, xda really needs a douchee button. im also new here, but i been using the forums for a while, just rencently registered and i have gotten all the info i need, so basicly yes, the douches are somewhat right, but they should just say it a little more politely
I just saying that there is no excuse for treating posters badly. I've been a registered user for more than a year but I find myself coming here less and less because I can find as good or better info on other sites and most don't have the xda attitude.
I want to be clear that most people don't act this way and that plenty of nice helpful people respond here every day. The point I'm making is that there are a few that need to be cleaned up. I hadn't thought of the report button but in the future I will use it freely. Maybe that will get the attention of the powers that be.
It would be interesting to start a thread on the xda **** of the day. People could cut and paste insulting behavior into the thread including the name of the poster. Every day/week members could vote. I bet it would dry up fast....

Really, Really???
Makes me laugh when people chant that mantra of "this is a developers site. Not a tech support site, not a rom flashing site......". maybe when the site was made 5,6 years ago it was a developers site. But things grow and evolve as is in the human nature. XDA has evolved into more than just a Dev site, its a site for development, education and learning.
It amuses me when people try to alienate the devs from the users. Don't give excuses for rude or egotistical people, if someone is in doubt, use your knowledge to help him or shut up. afterall, the great devs of today all learnt from scratch. Nobody was born with code in their brain from the womb (except chuck norris ). Because the way this site is going its going to drive users away from its fold.
And when you succeed in alienating the noobs, and xda becomes a dev-only site, who will test the bugs in the developers' software? how will developed apps get publicity? I know some devs who've made alot of money from donations for their software; heck, this site's servers are supported by donations from users.
XDA is a leader in development and mobile collaboration and we've seen the amount of clout and influence XDA has, the mobile companies HTC,Samsung, motorola all hear the voice of XDA (as evidenced by htc's bootloader unlocking, htc dev, making motorola answer for locking bootloaders) but dont think that XDA will have such influence if all of the over 4 million users are gone and like 1000 developers ( if they are even that many) remain.
Also I'm not excusing some very stupid people who ask the wrong questions, and don't follow rules.for example, I only registered here last year but I've followed this site for 3 years. If I had a problem, I also come here to search and I always got my answer. I only had to register when I got the lenovo thinkpad, which didn't have any active development forum so I could post a question. So I guess I'm one of those who likes to search before posting.
The summary of everything I just said is help people who are truly in need of it, (not the silly ones) and XDA isn't a dev only site.

Well I disagree on this one point, if they don't take the time to try and look it up and find it on their own it does give you the right to be a little rude, because that's pretty rude of them, expecting you to take time out of your day to give them an answer when they don't take any of their own time to even try..but, of course, I'm not in favor of going crazy on them..just enough let them know that's unacceptable
I don't like rude people too, and I met quite a few here...
I do am agree thus, that newcomers should look VERY well into the proper thread and all over XDA site.
I like to help when I can and if I can, but I have seen more and more often people asking simple questions like:
"someone can show me some guide?" or " does an xperia thread exist?"
Well don't need help really for this question, is just enough to search..
I guess developers or user generally can get tired of this.
However I am agree that some users normally answer by jokes or in a rude way, although people like this could be everywhere..
Sometimes you have to be rude to let people know they should google first before they post a question

I think most users dont consider themselves entitled or expect any helpful posts in regards to their questions, I'm sure they're just hoping someone can point them into the right direction. I've searched and gathered everything I needed to know myself but its not like I ever expected another user to help me. I figure if users want to help other users, awesome, but don't give attitude when doing so.

I understand but to a point, there's no need to curse at someone and be rude just because he asked a question even if its been asked before a 1000 times, if you don't like the question he asked then don't answer it, I see that a lot on here, noob ask a question then gets an answer "why do you ask so many questions?" I thought to myself why does it matter to you its a q&a forum, just skip over the post or answer the question with some respect without rude remarks

Users not updating after finding resolutions here.

I really wish users passing thru here looking for answers to problems would update the forum after asking then getting an answer.
Most do this others pop in get an answer then disappear.
Knowing if an answer solved a problem or didn't work would benefit us all and promote the helpful attitude.

I agree. I someone asks for a question, and someone answer, it would be expected to show gratitude for someone taking their personal time to help you. Though I think I only saw an incident where someone did not maybe once, there should never be a question that the poster is not maintaining.

Actually after one of my questions have been resolved, I tried to find out whether there is a common sense here to somehow mark that question as resolved in the thread title. I have seen that in other forums and find it quite useful. In that particular case, the people who cared to look into my question told me that there is no such habit as of right now. What could we do to change that?
Fully agreed. May I add the additional request of pushing that "Thanks" button? ; )

I've seen the thread titles preceded by [Resolved]
I think one has to hit the report button then ask a moderator to modify the thread title.
Unless a user is an RC\RD then I believe an OP with a title can do their own title change.

Thanks are always a good thing.
Seems as though there are a few users who ask a lot get answers then never show any appreciation.
I know for me I'm always out of thanks.
I really wish XDA would up the number per day to at least 15...25 would be nice however
Agreed!
It would also be nice if they specifically mentioned which solution helped them... Often enough you read a thread looking for a solution to an issue, and people say "Fixed it!" to a thread with over 200 replies. Yea, great, so which one was it?
But this is a common supportforum issue. I encounter it elsewhere often too, sometimes people go as far as to ask a question and never even log back in to see if there's an answer. *sigh*

Has anyone been able to flash android on an iPhone yet? I see in the "forum" that we have even the kindle fire rooted with android on it. How about iPhones? Just curious!

@zelendel is a Moderator on the forum and is far more tolerant than I am. I said that if you were serious you should search. The first rul of XDA (read them if you haven;t done so before) is to "Search before asking anything". This question has been asked many times, sometime by noobs, sometimes by trolls, so the answer and the reasons why not are on XDA and Google in many, many places already - starting a new thread to ask the same thing is contrary to the rules of XDA and, to be honest, is just ignorant and lazy as well.
While Simon is correct about searching. I will break it down the best I can. The device is just not compatable with android. All the bootloaders are locked down tighter then fort knox. The kindle that you mentioned is based off of linux like android is. The iphone will never be allowed to run anything other then apples software.

Oh wow! So you took all that time to post two responds and then went ham on me calling me all kinds of things and still didn't even answer the question? And you are calling ME ignorant? who are you, the owner of the xda developers website or something? You can't just judge a book from its cover, homie! Do you know how long I have been a "member"? Do you know if I know everything about this website or not? Do you think I would have asked if I had known the answer? I have been an Iphone owner for several years and I have just switched to the android community and I am still exploring it which means I am new. And I actually love it, but people like yourself make it a little unpleasant. Man, this is ridiculous. I am being insulted for just a questione. You are more then welcome to ask question, but please understand that this is a developers site. Alot of the questions most new users have already have been asked a few hundred times. So searching first will most likely save you time and frustration. So of the people here are a bit short but that is due to people thinking we are a support site. This is the furtherest from the truth. So my advice would be to search and read. Things will come to you in time. You will also notice how the same questions are asked over and over again. After some time this will start to annoy you as well when you are looking for info and you have to read over hundreds of posts of the same question.
I will close this for you as you can not close or delete any threads. Even ones you make.
