Hey guys I was meandering through the forum reading up on the root progress, and I read about a member's idea and work on an automated root, I just want to say that from a dedicated member to the inc forum I am disappointed in the flaming and garbage that all you "experienced" devs are throwing at the people who haven't used adb before... Come on guys if you can't be kind why say something, you know? They won't learn if somebody is discouraging them from even trying... So just a thought, be kind because discouragement is not what these forums are about guys.
Peace to all you silly android fans out there and happy rooting!
People will make those sort of comments unfortunately.
And people will make these sort of posts about it.
Just another day on almost every community forums.

Just saying man, coming from the inc forum where we actually help eachother... Its no way to talk to somebody who could actually turn into a decent dev, its happened tons of times
It has nothing to do with being rude or polite... The root process is very crude at the moment, recovery is not fully functional and You really can't back up if you fubar your phone... There is a very strong possibility of making a paper weight with the current method ... Just be patient I hear unrEVOked is working on root which won't come out until a solid recovery is running

Here is a link for anyone needing adb help. i made a post in a thread with links to help users learn adb and understand it. i understand the being new and needing help. the link in the post are the links i used to learn adb and everything with it.
Will go directly to my post with links:

I agree with the OP...it was just the attitude of some of them that was the issue. Very rude and condescending. I do agree that right now it's a crude root method and that without a solid working recovery it's not advisable for anyone but the experienced. BUT that is no reason to denigrate those that want a one click solution down the line when things are solid.
When the Inc first was rooted, I remember the same types of posts about not knowing adb = shouldn't root.
It's just part of the territory. Also it leads to the same hand-holding through the process 50x a day.
It'll pass, just like it did with the Inc

The above post is correct. Don't let anyone discourage you. We were all new to this at one point, and I don't think there is a single one of us that did not get an impolite comment directed towards a valid question at some point during the learning process.

People are just rude in general. If you say something someone doesn't agree with, they make damn sure you know they disapprove. I took my leave from the INC forums after the iPhone 4 debacle that happened in the general forum. That and someone told me my ROM list was stupid and worthless in a PM...
I concur, I can ADB like I'm typing a paper (I have extensive command line experience) but my gf, who bought her first android phone recently, can hardly turn a computer on.
Long story short, some people don't want to risk breaking their brand spanking new phone just to have more functionality. If an easy, tried and true method presents itself, people will not only flock to it, but they will gladly give money for it (I know I would). Calling someone a noob or making fun of them is counter-productive and will deter all future forward progress here. No one wants to dev for a bunch of ingrates and jerks.
+1 to the OP.

I would, respectfully, disagree w/that statement.
IMHO what happens is people get tired of listening to the same questions over and over and over - this is why we have a search button and why google kicks ass too. I think people get snippy after seeing the 8 millionth person come in and ask "what's root" or "what's a ROM".
I'm not sure of the rudeness the OP was mentioning as I haven't seen it in regards to NOOB developers, but from my own personal experience around here I've found this place to be very helpful. I learned all I could about rooting my Eris via google and on another one of the android forums, ultimately a google search landed me here and I took the plunge and rooted and started w/the Kaos ROMS before trying many, many others.
People shouldn't just come in and start asking Q's - they should look around first and when they don't, that's why trouble starts (not here, on ANY forum).
As far as the OP here goes, I haven't read the posts he was talking about, but I can understand why -if somebody was looking for legitimate "how to" info on development and that person was met w/a bunch of crap - they would be frustrated.
I love it here

We also have a chicken and a kraken (sp??) ....
As one of the newer users here, I understand where both sides are coming from. The amount of content here is kind of intimidating for some people, and those who are looking for a "do everything" solution such as one-click root are going to be dissappointed. And then some people are so impatient to root that they'll be pestering people, asking any question that helps them out immediately, not checking for already posted questions, and that's the hand-holding that is being criticized/attacked here.
But I do see where they are coming from. There is a lot of information here that is important, but with the volume of posts, it gets lost, and there seems to be no direct go-to thread or threads for people to ask questions like that in this forum. Unfortunately, not everyone is going to read all the threads here, nor will many set foot in the general Android forums here I think, so they don't know where to start, and many will ask their own questions in their own thread(s).
If anything, some of the most important information that needs to be more accessible IMO is the links to the driver/tweaking the driver for the device to be picked up with adb.

We all have our moments. I tend to answer the questions first, then include something like if you have to ask this, you're probably not ready to do it on your own yet, or here's your answer, but a simple search would have revealed it.
Google and search are our friends. Most of the "old timers" just get annoyed when people ask something that could have easily been found with either a Google search (set site to xda if only interested in xda responses) or with a forum search (search from main area that covers all subsections, use "show posts" and skim through the results), because the same question has been/asked answered dozens of times already.
All that said, the sub-forum structure across devices is inconsistent, the protocols of where to ask/post isn't consistent, and the search feature in xda absolutely SUCKS. I've always considered myself a pretty good query builder to find what I want quickly, but even I have to run through multiple searches to find what I'm looking for. The 30 second delay between being able to start a new query can be very frustrating, if xda dropped that to 10 seconds or so, it would probably encourage more multiple searches before asking. It's no wonder newer members get frustrated, though many are just too lazy or desperate to take the time to look...

I just want to say that until last night I HAD no idea how to use adb. One of those devs that you are complaining is so rude, got me the help I needed, to the point that they were on RDP with me and handheld me thru it, even straight did some sections.
In ither words I'm finding nothing but help from the dev community.

I never said they aren't helping, I'm saying that rudeness is not what forum communities need to be based on, its not right that people have to have attitude online, nor in general, people come to forums for help and communication they don't want to get on a thread and see that somebody has posted a reply being rude to their work and or statement, its just something I'd like to see change but it never will
My voice search on HTC hero is extremely accurate, but on my Asus transformer it is rear if it is correct. What CA do about it?
Not only is it wrong it thinks I am using prfoanity most of the time. I get f*** all the time. I thought maybe I had a virus.
Whole foods solace - this what the results were when I just tried it. I said is there a way to uninstall it? I will try a few more times and see what the results are. Here goes:

Is there a way to school?
So in 4 tries, the last one was the closest.
Cheryl lee ralph - well I thought maybe if I tried one more time it would work. I was wrong.
This is really important to me as I usually dictate rather than type. I just don't understand why this is so bad. Do I need to RMA this thing?
I've heard the microphone on here isn't the best but for me speaking loudly and clearly usually does the job.
As far as the profanity goes, you must have unchecked 'block offensive words' under voice recognizer settings under language and input settings.
Can I get some TF users try Voice recognition on their TF and post the results.
Just say "is there a way to uninstall it?" Just click reply and say what is in the quotes, including the question mark and let's see what you get. I think there is a real issue with this, but maybe it is only mine.

Mine got it on the first try, but failed on the second. Just messing around (not sure), it seemed like the mic worked better when I spoke in the direction of the webcam. Maybe it's hiding up there somewhere. tbh, it might just not work well at all.

Actually I made the mistake of thinking the request came from the poster that my original comment was directed to. That said it would take you less time to search the post than it would for me to find it and then post it here. It also might yield some other posts that could help you. I don't think the usefullness of this forum depends on my doing this for you, just the opposite, people being lazy about searching is what diminishes the usefullness of the forum.

Why are you referencing it? Did you uninstall and reinstall? Did you RMA your device? I don't see how your post provided any useful information for me? I referenced my post because I think it makes more sense to have fewer threads on the same issue. That way information is consolated and is easier for everyone to access. Your post is essentially a duplicate of mine. No there is no information on that thread to help you, or me for that matter, with our problem. I did not make the post to help solve your problem though I certainly would have if I could. The post was meant for the benefit of the forum. If you would chill a bit and think about you might see my point. It's not all about you.
Can you please be more specific about "So much energy is wasted and threads are hijacked by your comments." If this is true I would appreciate your examples so I can alter my behavior. If this is not true you are just being nasty. That is truly "aggressive". I don't think my post was particularly aggressive.
I don't intend to get into a flame or pissing match with you but your comment was so insulting I felt I had to respond. I think you are acting like a child.

And therein lies the difference between a Youtuber and a true XDA member.
A Youtuber wastes a comment by commenting one another's actions. An XDA member complains, but is still helpful. Sadly, half of XDA these days consists of Youtubers.
Of course, you have simple youtube geeks, xda geeks, and people who actually have a life instead of reading hours of posts to fix a simple problem. I tend to spend hours of research to learn more about android. If everyone did research, then these boards will eventually get boring. People who ask these simple questions make it easier for the searchers to find the answer. So answer the question and know that you are helping more people than just the op.
On a side note, I don't comment on youtube. I only comment when someone is being a douche bag for no reason. If you feel that they are wasting your time by not searching, simply don't reply.

You are absolutely wrong here. There is no merit in answering the same questions over and over and over. If everyone did research, we'd have like 15 threads in here with condensed information, all you needed to know to do whatever we would have found out. We would not have the like 200 useless threads with people asking trodden-path questions drowning the really interesting threads we have going as well.

Agreed.
Firstly i'll admit this may come off as a rant, but i will be making some valid points that i believe need to be addressed
Secondly, i really don't care if anybody finds this offensive because well points need to be made and sometimes they have to be bluntly made.
Thirdly, i'm sure many of you will agree with me on these points.
Fourthly, @Mods i understand this may come off a bit harsh to some people but again things need to be said.
Finally, please enjoy this read
Well here's the story of how i ended up writing this thread, ever since the Galaxy S3 came out many of you probably noticed that i was constantly helping people every single day, basically answering the same questions day in and day out. For a while i was fine with that, but the past few months i've almost ceased posting entirely, why you ask? Because answering the same questions everyday when their are plenty of stickies, and plenty of threads already asking those exact questions just got tiring and frustrating. Its very simple to search the forums as well as google, and to post a thread asking about a problem that can be answered by simply looking 1 to 5 threads down is just laziness and not needed. I understand people want answers quickly, but sometimes where you post these issues becomes an issue as well.
Issues #1: READ THE ORIGINAL POST (OP)
Example A: Bajee11 brought rootbox to our phones, and now he's closed his thread. Why? Because people couldn't just read the original post and keep non-development talk out of his thread.
Thread can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2134052
If you read his original post right below the downloads section is a Non-development | Discussion | Support banner in big bold letters with a link to where non-development talk should be discussed, simple enough to read and understand. Its not hidden away at all, so their should be no reason why somebody can't see it.
What happened? Somebody flashed the i9300 (european) rom onto their i535 (verizon) phone. And essentially bricked the phone (wouldn't boot up) and that user posted about it asking for support. (ALL posts in their have since been removed so i can't show them to you but please take my word for it)
At this point, support should not be asked in the developers thread when he's stated not to post non development stuff in his thread.
But that's now what happened, people started helping him which is nice to do, but again in the wrong place. And posts continued which clogged up the thread and made things more difficult. Eventually the developer asked that it be stopped and taken somewhere else so that his thread wasn't clogged up with that junk, and this is what happened.

Bajee11: Dude, this is my thread so I expect the rules to be followed. I have over 20 threads to maintain and I don't want to come back here for every single post when it's not development related. You guys have no clue how hard it is to track bugs when users don't follow any rules and specially when you got several devices to maintain. Not only do you not know what a development thread is, you even take on me for pointing out this not the right place for bricked phone discussion? This is why XDA has different sections for these kind of things and users like you should learn that. Anyways, closing thread.

Somebody goes and decides to challenge him instead of being respectful and taking NON ROM DEVELOPMENT talk somewhere else, it could've easily been dealt with in PM's, or searching the forum, or help me god making yet another thread about it.
This user that had an issue could've solved his problem by simply looking at this sticky thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2079399
Why is this a problem?
Well quite frankly the people that were using the Rootbox rom now have to sit, wait and wonder whether support will continue for D2VZW or if they should move on, just because some people couldn't read the OP and follow the simple requests, and had to feel the need to then challenge the OP instead of just respecting him.
Oh but that only applies to one rom my rom is fine
Have you ever tried to figure what bugs are in a rom only to be forced to read a million posts that aren't related to that rom at all but instead somebody doing something stupid resulting in user error not rom error? I know i have, its so frustrating to have to skim through 20 pages when in reality if people could keep things where they belong we wouldn't have that issue. Once you flash something that's not stock on the rom, ANY BUGS that occur are not the roms fault, because their is no way of knowing whether whatever you flashed caused it or not.
Flash a different kernel, then have x,y,z errors? Post in the KERNEL thread about it, i guarantee you'll get more kernel support their than in the Rom thread. You could make a simple post in the Rom thread and say "hey guys i flashed X kernel and now Y isn't working, just letting others know" Bam end of story, its simple, alerts other users and keeps thing clean.
Okay so that's one post but i see a million of them, okay well lets say User A posts that, then users B-Y post irrelevant nonsense then user Z posts the same thing as A, that's why you see it a bunch. Because B-Y or a combination had irrelevant information in their posts.
Solutions:
Option 1: I realize this is hard but please people have some respect and self control and keep posts where they are relevant. Or maybe the mod's should just start warning/giving infractions to people that can't obey the rules and have some damn respect when a developer asks you to please take business somewhere else.
Option 2: Instead of cluttering up the development thread, go make some thread in Q/A even though that'll go against my second issue it'll be better than clogging up relevant rom information/development, that users want to see. I'm sorry but if you brick your phone flashing something that's not meant for your phone that your own damn fault for not reading what you're download and flashing.
Option 3: If you can't read the OP then you shouldn't be rooting your phone. Honestly folks its not hard to read the OP, its their for a reason, not for you to skip down to the downloads link, flash the rom, and then say "X and Y are missing" when in the OP it clearly states they aren't there. And what do you know that's one more useless post.
Time for me to take a breath...
Issue #2: Not using the search function
I realize this may be hard for people to understand but its their for a reason, not to just look pretty. Its sole purpose is to try and keep things clean and help users to find helpful information. How many of you use google search everyday? i know i do, probably over 100 times a day and its very helpful, so i KNOW that you other users have used a search engine before, so why not use the one on XDA? Its not rocket science and its got plenty of options to help you narrow stuff down.
Hell even before you post a thread, it'll automatically search for relevant threads related to your title.
Notice: When you enter a thread title the system will search for similar threads which have already been posted. That should help you to find answers.
Click to collapse
Now tell me are you blind, or do you choose to ignore it? I'm guessing its the second one. Or maybe people are too lazy to just read the titles of threads, i guarantee you whatever issue you are having somebody else has had and already got an answer for it. Obviously we can't force people to use it, but please people, google is your friend, the search bar is your friend.
Solutions:
Option 1: Up the post requirement for development sections, i know i know this probably will be hated but its clear that it's needed. People still can't seem to just get it right anymore. Maybe if they have to spend a little more time actually using the forum they'll actually start to realize all these helpful things around them.
Option 2: Can we just start banning people? haha i kid i kid. But seriously, can we give Rom developers the right to edit posts in their respective threads, so if they deem something as pointless, then bam deleted
At this point i'm out of breath and tired from staring at the screen.
But i'll leave with this 99% of errors are user errors not rom errors. Yes that's right i'm blaming the users, because hey its your fault for messing something up. I flash rom's everyday and yet i don't have these crazy errors that others have, but hey i'm flashing stuff that's meant for my phone People really need to stop being dumb and start reading the OP it contains so much information, i swear some of you will flashing anything even if in the OP it states "THIS WILL DESTROY YOUR PHONE" and guess what, you'll flash it anyways because you're too lazy to take ONE minute to read it. You could read while making your nandroid backup, oh hey that's a great idea And when you have an issue, just use the search function.
I understand we were all noobs at once, but still... like i said, most issues are user error.
TLTR:
-Please read OP's
-Please use the search bar
-Please post issues in their respective threads
-Please don't post irrelevant nonsense in development threads, that's not the place for it.
-Please if you flash anything not stock with the rom, don't blame the rom.
-Please post rom issues in rom threads, and kernel issues in kernel threads.
-Please if you do something stupid, keep it out of the rom/kernel thread.
-Please read stickies, they contain more information than your heart desires and will help you in the long run.
-Please try and understand where i am coming from
Oh and again, i don't care if i offended some of you.

Haha, you quoted that?
I don't let phone stuff get to me. Life's too short. But maybe this will help, maybe not

On accident. I'm so used to replying with a quote that I forgot not to.

The final straw for me was that a recognized developer closed his thread due to people being rude, inconsiderate, and not reading the OP. Figured it was time to say something.

Happened when I was on the Rezound as well. People made Erishasnobattery really mad, and he and Apophis closed off the paradigm thread.

Its a damn shame things go down like that. But i can't blame the developers for getting sick of it. People expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter, but that's not how life is.
Good thread Neverendingxsin. I've had this problem too and had to get mods to intervene multiple times due to childish behavior -_-

Thanks As a user myself i find it hard enough to deal with, as a developer i imagine its a whole lot worse. Just trying to make things a bit easier for you guys!
This really needed to be said. People feel way to entitled around here. You don't realize what you have until you lose it.

I couldn't agree more. Everything that i know to this day about android i learned by reading threads, reading stickies, and paying attention to problems others are having and the solutions to them. Its not hard to do.

If only everyone could have that mentality, it would make the drama on XDA far less than what it is.

The problem is the people that post all that clutter aren't going to find this thread. They are way too lazy.

Not even that they won't find the thread, but they'll just skip over it. And then anyone that actually opens the thread most likely won't bother to read this OP either...
That's the truth

Unfortunately, it's always going to happen. The best we can do is report the offending posts. The more you report, the more the mods, and admins will take notice. They will in turn, notify the offenders, and remove the posts/threads.

Mhmmmm. But when developers decide they don't want to develop for a particular phone due to users being like that it starts to become an issue.

Shouldn't be necessary in the first place. My entire point is that people should be reading OPs and showing respect for them.
Hi guys, I installed CleanRom 7.0 on my HTC One X yesterday, and it has restarted by itself 2 times now, I know there was a bug with CleanROM 6.5 that if you had wireless activated, this COULD happen (not too often though), but with this new release (7.0) I didn't even have the wireless on and still the phone restarted.
Do you guys know what could be the problem?
Thanks
Ha, no seriously, do you guys keep posting this question as a joke?
Its been asked and answered so many times, I assume this has to be the case.
To be nice, just read the last page or so of posts on the CleanROM thread (which I always do anyway, whenever I install any new ROM), and you will find the answer.

To be completely honest, I could not find the exact same problem for my phone and the ROM that I am using in any forum, but if this has been asked and answered a lot of times, could you tell me the answer once again so I can fix this problem?
Thanks
How could you not find the answer? You literally can not go through any more than a few pages in the Cleanrom thread without finding this issue (and the fix) reported. Redpoint even told you exactly where to look in his post, in the time it took you to ask him for the answer again you could have found it yourself. One of the most important rules of XDA is to search before posting. This thread is yet another one to add to the ever growing, ridiculous stack of unnecessary threads which would have been avoided if the OP simply searched properly.

Read my previous response again. I think I edited it while you were typing your reply.
It will tell you exactly where to find your answer.

Don't know why you get so mad... as the other guy said in the post below, he EDITED his previous post while I was posting my reply, after I read his edit, I went and search for the problem, which I found it exactly where he told me, so now it seems that my phone is working again.
Anyway, thanks for you answers, I did manage to fix my phone with your replies...
I didn't get mad. The point was that you can't have searched very hard because as I said the answer is plastered all over every single Sense 5 ROM thread in this forum. Even without Redpoint's directions it should have been easy to find. The point is to do the searching before the posting, as I said it's part of the rules and is your responsibility as a member of XDA.

I agree with all timmaaa said. I was feeling charitable when telling the OP exactly where to find the answer. Really, it does no good for us lead folks by the nose to the answers that they could have easily found themselves.
There is a wealth of info for the taking on XDA, without folks having to ask the same questions over and over.
