Hi, my HTC One S sometimes displays 'no service' when the phone is booted. A restart fixes the issue. This only happens when I turn the phone on first thing. Spoke to HTC about it and they said it sounded like a sim problem. I ordered another sim from giffgaff and still have the same problem but not the 'restricted access' messages. I have googled this and people seem to have had the same issues with this device but the posts have never detailed a solution. Is there one?
Thanks.

so here is the problem I am having with my phone(almost once a day)
I have unlocked it and I have been using for T-mobile
It shows carrier name and also signal strength but when i call any number it would ring but a person on other end would never receive it...same thing happens if someone else calls me they would call me and it would go to my voice mail and i would never receive their call...the only way to find out is when i txt some one it will give me an error saying failure some thing then i would know that the phone is having unusual problem again once i restart the phone it would work just fine then after few hours it will do that all over again..so far this is what I have tried in order to fix it....
odin to stock
tried different roms (froyo, gingerbread)
so here is my take it's not a rom problem..then what is it?
any help would be appreciated and thanks for taking the time to read my problem...
Have u called tmobile and gotten them to text u their settings? I was not getting mms and they sent me a text that i had to install then everything workef
but if it was a setting problem y would it work all this time? like I mentioned earlier that if I restart the phone or tun on/off airplan mode...it solves my problem for few hours...
if you have tried different roms that kind of rules that out which points back to possible network issues, and or hardware issue. how long has the issues been occuring for, and in multiple locations (outside of say a 5 mile radius) or just just one specifci area/location?
edit: maybe you have a different phone you can put your simcard into for a day or two and see if the issue continues?
well I bought this off of ebay and seller didn't mention anything regarding this issue but I think that person was having same issues. It's not a sim card b/c I have tried my sim card in other phones and it works even in iphone 4 originally i was using Iphone 4 I had to turn my sim to mini sim but to make it regular sim I just use the left over piece and it works in other phones w/o a problem. Like u mentioned I have been thinking it's a hardware issue...oh well i m getting rid of this phone pretty quick...thanks to both of u to take the time and answer me...
Hello guys,
I have my At&t version HTC One X for couple days. I notice there's the problem with network connection which happen 3 times already. I cannot connect to the internet even though I still see 2 or 3 bars of signal and 4g logo. My browser or any other apps won't connect to the internet. The problem's solved if I reboot this phone.
Also, I have seen couple times the notification "preparing sim card" even though I didn't turn off the phone, nor remove the sim card from the phone.
Do you guys think it's software problem or hardware problem?
Anybody has the same problem with me?
Should I get a replacement from the store?
Thanks..
First off, there are 2 threads like this in general...one from me.
Second, I called AT&T and HTC on the matter of "preparing sim card" along with a ! in a triangle and "changing restricted access" on the notification bar...they had no idea what was going on. They both told me to return it, it might be the sim reader going bad.
Just take it back to where you bought it and get another one. I did. So far so good. Good luck!
So I've been experiencing intermintent connectivity, "no sim card error" and extremely slow speeds. This is my second gs3 ("Updated" sticker), and I have not rooted or flashed the device.
What options do I have? Should I get replaced again?

I get the same error. I called Verizon to report the problem and they replaced my SIM only for the error to reappear hours later. I would try replacing your SIM, wiping your device, and calling Verizon to report the problem. I've google'd this issue and it seems like a fairly decent amount of people are experiencing this problem. It may have something to do with the area in which you're experiencing this problem, but that is only a guess.

I got this once. I restarted the phone and it went away and hasn't come back yet. Worth a shot at least.
I've had this same problem. Replaced both phone and sim card and nothing helps. I believe whatever is causing this is the same thing causing the notification asking to unlock the sim card on some aosp roms. It seems to only happen in certain locations which leads me to believe that it has something to do with the phone communicating with certain towers or trying to connect in certain specific situations. Unfortunately both verizon and samsung are ignoring the issue and I don't believe it is quite common enough for any developers here to try to fix it. So, I would suggest switching phones if it's not something you think you can live with.
this happened to me last night, I went to a concert in a rural area, the phone was working great until I got to the parking lot, then I had no sms/voice, 4G worked great though.
I am assuming we will never receive a fix for this?
I also had "no sim" errors a few times while using CM10, but nothing like last night, my phone was useless the entire time I was there.
Then as I drove away it magically started working again.
Hi Everyone,
Are any of you receiving the "No SIM" error? My VZ S3 will start up fine, but within a few minutes, it says No SIM at the top and then the radio restarts. It will do this a few times and then the radio will just lock up. No data or voice. I took it back and they tried a few different SIMs including the SIM from my Nexus. All of them did the same thing. I asked for a new S3 and they wouldn't exchange it because they've been told it is a known issue and Samsung is working on a fix. Anyone else having this problem or know of a workaround?
Thanks,
Rob
Sorry if there's another thread on this. Searched for No SIM error and didn't find anything

Yep. Mine never fully locks up, but it happens constantly. Was gonna return it but from everything I've read Verizon won't do anything about it. Just waiting on a fix from Sammy.

I went to a different store. They replaced the phone and used the SIM from my Nexus. It's been working for a couple hours now, and before I couldn't get past a few minutes. I also got an apology for having to go to another store.
I had this problem only once. I believe it has something to do with the cell tower. This particular area I was in had 4g/full bars. Once I got to this job site. I tried to make a call and I got a "No SIM" error. Then my service status would change to a "No service" Icon. Seconds later 4g would come back up. I was at this location for 3 hours. I tried to make many calls/texts within that time and out of 30+ attempts I was only able to make 1 call. The rest were "No SIM". Once I left the area...2 miles out. I was able to make calls. I have not experienced "No SIM" error since then.
Mine was definitely not location specific. It happened everywhere from Milwaukee to Green Bay. I still have not had it happen on phone number 2.
I've been dealing with the same thing. Mine appears to be location specific. It only happens when trying to make a call or sending a text. I can use data all day without a problem. I've had my phone and sim card replaced neither fixed it. I tried loading cm10 to see if that would fix it but instead of saying "no sim" i got the locked sim card prompt asking for the pin to unlock it.
As for samsumg working on a fix, I've called them several times and every time they assure me that this is the first time samsung has ever heard of the problem. I've given up on them and just hope this becomes a big enough issue for our devs here to take a look at it.

I've got an AT&T One X that I've had for about 2.5 months now. It's all stock ROM and has been working fine up until recently. I've started to randomly get a "SIM not found" error and it says I can only make emergency calls. If I toggle Airplane mode on and off, it typically finds the sim and things work fine for a while. It has happened today 4 times over the course of about 1 hour, so it's getting really frustrating. I already had the sim card replaced the first time it gave me this error, so I'm thinking it's not the sim card causing this, but other than that I'm at a loss.
Has anyone here experienced this and is there anything that I can do to fix the problem? Thanks for your help!
Requested moving to at&t forums.

Backup your personal data, and try a factory reset.
Otherwise, if its all stock, and you've tried a different SIM, then you may have hardware failure, such as a broken SIM tray.
