I've got an AT&T One X that I've had for about 2.5 months now. It's all stock ROM and has been working fine up until recently. I've started to randomly get a "SIM not found" error and it says I can only make emergency calls. If I toggle Airplane mode on and off, it typically finds the sim and things work fine for a while. It has happened today 4 times over the course of about 1 hour, so it's getting really frustrating. I already had the sim card replaced the first time it gave me this error, so I'm thinking it's not the sim card causing this, but other than that I'm at a loss.
Has anyone here experienced this and is there anything that I can do to fix the problem? Thanks for your help!
Requested moving to at&t forums.

Backup your personal data, and try a factory reset.
Otherwise, if its all stock, and you've tried a different SIM, then you may have hardware failure, such as a broken SIM tray.

Hello guys,
I have my At&t version HTC One X for couple days. I notice there's the problem with network connection which happen 3 times already. I cannot connect to the internet even though I still see 2 or 3 bars of signal and 4g logo. My browser or any other apps won't connect to the internet. The problem's solved if I reboot this phone.
Also, I have seen couple times the notification "preparing sim card" even though I didn't turn off the phone, nor remove the sim card from the phone.
Do you guys think it's software problem or hardware problem?
Anybody has the same problem with me?
Should I get a replacement from the store?
Thanks..
First off, there are 2 threads like this in general...one from me.
Second, I called AT&T and HTC on the matter of "preparing sim card" along with a ! in a triangle and "changing restricted access" on the notification bar...they had no idea what was going on. They both told me to return it, it might be the sim reader going bad.
Just take it back to where you bought it and get another one. I did. So far so good. Good luck!
So I've been experiencing intermintent connectivity, "no sim card error" and extremely slow speeds. This is my second gs3 ("Updated" sticker), and I have not rooted or flashed the device.
What options do I have? Should I get replaced again?

I get the same error. I called Verizon to report the problem and they replaced my SIM only for the error to reappear hours later. I would try replacing your SIM, wiping your device, and calling Verizon to report the problem. I've google'd this issue and it seems like a fairly decent amount of people are experiencing this problem. It may have something to do with the area in which you're experiencing this problem, but that is only a guess.

I got this once. I restarted the phone and it went away and hasn't come back yet. Worth a shot at least.
I've had this same problem. Replaced both phone and sim card and nothing helps. I believe whatever is causing this is the same thing causing the notification asking to unlock the sim card on some aosp roms. It seems to only happen in certain locations which leads me to believe that it has something to do with the phone communicating with certain towers or trying to connect in certain specific situations. Unfortunately both verizon and samsung are ignoring the issue and I don't believe it is quite common enough for any developers here to try to fix it. So, I would suggest switching phones if it's not something you think you can live with.
this happened to me last night, I went to a concert in a rural area, the phone was working great until I got to the parking lot, then I had no sms/voice, 4G worked great though.
I am assuming we will never receive a fix for this?
I also had "no sim" errors a few times while using CM10, but nothing like last night, my phone was useless the entire time I was there.
Then as I drove away it magically started working again.
i have 2 phones one i us most of the time one is for drunk nights out etc bc i dont want my other one to get lost damanged stolen.
the 2nd phone is lg optimus black p970.
its been working 100% fine.
i havent used it for about a week.
tongiht i go to use it and keep gettin the com.adroid.phone error.
i have NO IDEA why.
i havent updated anything new (apps) i have updated the software or anything.
a week ago i powered it off and it had been working fine. all i did tonight was power it on, went to send a text and it gives me that error. the same with whatapp. dl'ing apps works.
any idea what it could be & why its happened? how to fix?
the phone is NOT rooted its entirely stock standard. (i dont want to root either.)
i'm on O2.
tried the phone with another sim (also o2) and it works fine.
but i dont understand because i have used the phone with my usual o2 sim card before like 1 week ago.
powered the phone off with that sim inside. used the sim in another phone for 1 week now put it back in lg and power on and get that error.
just a bump.
i was given a new sim card from my network provider but the error still exists.
i've done a factory reset of the phone and its still getting the same error.
COM.ANDROID.PHONE
i dont understand why its only that sim card. the sim works fine in my other 2 phone but on the other hand every other sim i've tried (a different o2 one,t-mobile & orange) all work in the phone that gives me the error with my usual sim.
i cant determine is it the phone or the sim. the sim works wiht other phones, the phone works with other sims :$
could it be my phone number causing the problem.
I’m rooted using qkster’s Heimdal 2.3.6 for almost a year... very few problems.
Lately I have a problem that occurs intermittently upon reboot.
1 – It shows a grey SIM card icon near upper right (not the blue sd scanning that always happens)
2 – Cannot make or receive calls, get message “not registered on network”.
3 - Can't use SMS or data
The only way to fix it is to reboot. Some reboots are successful, some not.
If successful, works fine until next reboot.
If not successful, doesn't work at all until next reboot.
The behavior only changes during reboot.. I guess maybe that’s when SIM card info gets red into memory?
I tried removing/reinstalling SIM card. Pressing on it during boot (other phones apparenlty have looseness of SIM card)..no change.
When the problem was really bad (9 out of 10 reboots come up bad), I swapped SIM cards with my daughter. **The problem followed the SIM card*.... Two successful reboots on my phone with her SIM card, Two unsuccessful reboots on her phone with my SIM card. Swapped my SIM card back into my phone and again unsuccessful reboots 9 times out of 10.
I called AT&T, they said go to their store and they’ll give me a new SIM card for free (which I’m planning on Friday)
To me, “intermittent” SIM card is a satisfying answer. It doesn't seem that software problem would create intermittent behavior like this. I haven’t really tried flashing new modem or playing wiht IMEI recovery stuff. ... I’m not tremendously familiar with those and don’t want to mess anything up when I have a success path to just swap SIM cards.
At this point I'm just curious and hoping to go into AT&T armed with more info.
Do you think is't a bad SIM card? Or is it instead maybe something simpler that could have been fixed without swappig SIM card?
And did my rooting the phone or other activities contribute to it?

you can try flashing a cwm-modem and then retry
you can try flashing one of zen's new kernel and retry
a factory reset and odin or heimdall back to stock and check for problems
sometimes it's the software corruption that reports the sim as invalid

Thanks qkster.
I'm thinking it must be the SIM because the problem followed the SIM to another phone and back.
I'm just not sure exactly what exactly is stored on the SIM and whether it could have been corrupted by my phone's actitivies and whether it's fixiable without SIM resplacement.
Again, just curiosity.

Np..sry I didn't notice that you had use the same sim and got the same problems on a different phone.
resolved
UPDATE - I went to AT&T today – new SIM card, phone works fine on three-in-a-row reboots. That seems to confirm bad SIM was the problem, although I don’t know why... seems like an uncomon problem for Infuse.
I asked the rep what might be the cause, he said it just happens every once in awhile.
It took me awhile to figure out.
Googling the error “not registered on network” gave nothing on Infuse forums (apparently it’s not a common failure... I’m just lucky).
Google search on that error led to lots of other devices including lots of HTC phones that had problems with the holder that could be corrected by inserting paper or tape as a wedge to put pressure on the SIM card. I actually seemed to have success with that once (because the problem was intermittent), so that kept me on that wrong track longer than I should have been.
Anyway, it’s here now for posterity for whatever future Infuser searches “not registered on network” and pretty straightforward in retrosepct. The key test to confirm of course is swapping SIM to another phone.
So I don't know what I was thinking, but last week while on the T-Mobile test run I tried to use the T-Mobile iPhone sim in my m8. I also tried using the VZW sim in the T-Mobile iPhone. Nothing worked. This isn't the problem.
After putting the VZW sim back in my m8, I no longer got 4G and my data connection kept dropping. This Sunday I spend 2 hours at the Verizon store trying to get them to resolve the issue. The idiot at the Verizon store tried to resolve the issue for over an hour using the original sim. After me begging him to stop wasting time and just replace the sim, the issue is still not resolved.
When he originally checked my phone in the database it was coming up as something like "Unknown device" which I'm assuming was caused by placing my sim in the T-Mobile iPhone. After replacing the sim, the IMEI and everything else seemed to be matching according to the guys at Verizon, but I still don't have 4G and data keeps dropping..
Any ideas?
I'm running a GPE rom so I'm wondering if I have to go back to stock to resolve this issue...
Probably need to flash stock recovery and do a factory reset from it. Might not need to fully flash back.
I had this same issue. I would love to fix it but I moved to a OnePlus One on T-Mo. I'd love to get this resolved though.
