Hello, tried finding a thread with the same issue but was not able to.
I did my first flash to a custom and the ROM flash went without any issues.
(TrickDroid for the S4 ROM)
Installation went fine, phone started up and I started setting up the accounts and WiFi.
Then when those steps were done the "update is available" screen came up.
There I have to choose data connection, WiFi only or any connection with the OK button at the bottom.
Well nothing happens when clicking the OK button and same result choosing either of the two choices.
Update available screen is the first thing I see after each reboot.
Done this update a few times before when phone has been reset due to updates and then it has worked just fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
EDIT: I reinstalled Trickdroid and removed my simcard before booting.. That way I got past the system update screen and am now able to use the phone.
Also disabled auto update and hopefully will not get stuck at that screen again.

I seen this subject discussed but never really saw a answer, seems like everyone resorted to re installing firmware which I would like to avoid if I can.......
so, Ran into some trouble today trying to trying to do the 3e recovery mod today and had to reinstall stock firmware (using odin and gtg). Got root access and and was up and running. I went to updates just to see if anything was there and a update started and completed. the phone rebooted and was on the white and red update screen for about 4 secs and the phone rebooted again. When Got back to the home screen and got a message saying the update had failed. since then device management will not stop popping up. it stays in the task bar and if you use any process that needs it, it crashes and restarts itself. the message in the taskbar says "connecting to DM server" like its trying to get a update. how can I stop this without resetting the phone?

First we don't use Odin. As it is a different device post this in that device section.

it shouldn't be a prob after you flash a new rom on it.
If it really bugs you, you can try freezing it or remove the update manager pak with TiBu
So I installed clockwork and then installed an unlocked bootloader, after that I booted into recovery and installed cm 10 and gapps after I wiped data. Once that all finished I started the phone up I was already activated and stuff like that, but every time I would restart it would bring up a screen talking about activating my phone, and it never did anything just sat on that screen.
So I looked around and saw a post with someone having the same issue, and someone told them to wipe data and clear dalvik cache, so that's what I did. Once I started it back up, I had to go through the setup process again, this time it stopped and activated my phone, but it fails every time.
How could I fix this? I also tried installing cm10.1 and Liquid and neither of those would activate either.
If all else fails I will do http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867253 but I'm afraid that won't work correctly either..
Had the same problem after flashing the Carbon rom. Try going in settings>More>Mobile Networks>Preferred Network Mode. Select CDMA / EvDo auto. Reboot.
Ah that fixed it! I didn't have to activate either, it just started working.
Oddly though I tried dialing *22890 and it failed to activate.
I do have another question though, when I reboot it still seems to come up with the activation screen. Any idea how I can stop that from happening?
Hello fellow xda-ers,
I have a OnePlus One, but i cannot seem to update the phone.
What is the exact problem?
- there is a system update ready, so i download the update and it asks me to install and then it tries to reboot
- the phone shuts down and doesn't reboot, i have to manually turn the phone off which makes the update sequence stop.
- the phone tells me again theres a update, but it doesnt reboot after it shuts down.
- even just giving the phone the command to reboot, just shuts the phone off and the phone doesn't reboot.
What did i try?
- via oneplus toolkit (mac) i flashed it to stock default, but still the problem persists.
- i flashed a 5.1.1. firmware straight from cyanogen mod, but still the problem persists.
- i flashed a custom recovery (while unchecking the update cm recovery), but the problem still persists.
I don't know what to do... Anybody have advice? It would be much appreciated.
I am pretty aware of what to do and not to do, i have been flashing phones since the iPhone 3gs. But this is just odd.
I was having similar problem. Except mine was booting into the bootloader. From there I tried to manually install the update. It kept failing so I gave up. Then about a week later (today) I let it try to install and it seemed to be working, except when it finally booted back up, it had completely wiped my phone!!! Now I'm midway though reinstalling all my apps and it gives me the "There's an update available for you phone". So apparently it didn't even update in that process.
I've got the exact same problem here.
Hi all. Hoping someone can finally help me get my Galaxy Tab 2 working again.
A few years ago I decided to root it and install CyanoGenMod. It worked much faster after that and everything was fine. Then one day out of the blue I turned the tablet on and it eventually loaded to the home screen but it was messed up. A few seconds later the Tab 2 reboots itself and this just repeats over and over.
If I go into recovery mode I get the message "installing system update" for less than a second and then it changes to "no command" and eventually a message loads:-
# MANUAL MODE #
-- Appling Multi-CSC ...
Applied the CSC-code : BTU
did not match sized '/system/csc/common/system/csc/others.xml (No Data Available)"
If I try selecting the wipe cache partition option, it will try for a second or two and then shows error and reboots.
If I try the wipe data/factory reset option, it says the data has been wiped but the Android logo in the background changes to say 'error' underneath it. It then powers itself off. Turning it on brings up the boot loop as before with the messed up home screen appearing for a few seconds before it reboots. So it doesn't appear to be wiping any data at all.
Can anyone offer any assistance on how to get this working again please? I would be forever grateful.

See the best way to get out of this is to install the stock Samsung firmware using the ODIN tool.
Then if you ever wish to install a custom rom again you can do as you like. Hope this helps. If you are require assistance, feel free to reply to this conversation.
I have tried a few times to flash the stock firmware with ODIN but it would either install the whole thing but it actually didn't work, or the install would crash part way through.
Unless there is some error with the stock firmware I've found online, is there a link to the proper one that I can download from somewhere? Or a specific version of ODIN that is needed for it to work?
