Unresponsive Touchscreen - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Some weeks before my sg3 got drenched a bit(I went to a beach & sg3 was in my pocket). Now its touchscreen is acting weird. Sometimes it works just fine, sometimes not.
Anyways all hard buttons are working. I tested soft keys in CWM recovery. They failed to work on recovery sometimes, so that means it is not a ROM problem. I reflashed CM7 twice. Problem remained.
I noticed, in moisted weather, it becomes unresponsive.
Any suggestion or trick/tweak or fix?

^AFAIK, there isn't any other option but to replace your touch panel. And trust me, I'm telling this from my experience. I faced the exact same problem a little over a year back. The touchscreen as well as the soft keys would occasionally behave weirdly. I even tried a few fixes that I found on the internet (like putting it in a bowl of uncooked rice for a few hours, etc..), but to no avail.
So finally I gave up and went to Samsung Care. Although my phone was still under warranty back then, water damage wasn't covered under it. The guy initially demanded 1.5k to replace the touch panel, but after a l'il pleading, he agreed to do it for free.
Anyways, so I'd suggest you to simply walk into the nearest Samsung service center or your local mobile repair wala and get it replaced. Initially they might demand ~2k, but try bringing them down to around 1.5k!
Hope that helps.

When my sg3 fell into the water i quickly put it in a jar full of rice and it sucked out all the moisture from the phone...

Did my touchscreen die?

Hello everyone,
Today i installed my parrot bluetooth carkit. And after i connected a couple of times my phone became unstable.
So unstable that i'm not able to tap the screen.....
I don't know what happened due that i have hard resetted the phone a couple of times and even switched from m-rom to energyrom 3.0 with the same results.
Only one thing that was strange is that the touch pro start up screen with the red characters in the right bottom.
That after i flashed m-rom to energy rom that the touch pro characters in the middle were still different like the way that are made in m-rom. With the addition : powered by m-rom
So this means that the phone doesnt format his core
Help please give me any advice.
UPDATE:When backlight is dimmed, it will be bright if i touch it once. Afterwards it will maintain the same.
I have tried several roms and tried to restore my SPL aswell, without any results till now.
I'm getting desperate now. Due that i stays in the screen of ALLIGNMENT, so i'm really not able to start up anything from now.
Have you dropped your device recently?
Try flashing a stock/shipped rom and hard-reset when after flashing the rom when you get to the "Tap here to set up your device" screen.
I have a OIL spot in the screen when i keep it in bright light.
This could be occured when the phone was inside my bag during my beach visit.....
I guess the phone turned liquid by the sun....
Does somebody ever experienced the same issue?

I have a oil spot, and the raster of the phone with little dots in visible in the ligt.
I have made a repair order at HTC.
Which didn't satisfy me at all!
They told me that it is not covered by warranty. I was shocked, this will cost me around 70 euro to fix, and my shop warranty is still valid. So i called the shop to explain this.
And they said if this is not caused by a user, we will change the phone, but first we what to have a diagnose from HTC.
So i decided to let HTC pick up my phone . They will have a repair time of 5 up till 10 days.
That's fair, but i'm not really happy with this situation. Because i think that the screen is the most harmful component. And this means that if this part fails that my phone becomes obsolete.
I will post my conclusion after i got my phone repaired.
I will return to the STOCK spl and the original rom just for warranty purposes.
dont tell them that you spilt anything on it or dropped it. Although they will be able to tell if there is water damage to the device you might get lucky and they won't notice.
Now is the oil spot from leaving it in the sun or suntan lotion getting in the device?

Nope nothing happened at all.
Thats the strange thing about this situation.
I was in the shadow of the sun and the bags were only filled with clothes. So it didn't drop or something else.
I was able to use my phone during the day.... and was getting more unresponsive during the time that went by.
So i will not accept any blame of myself, due that i have a warranty of 1 year from the factory which will not cover your display :S
But also have the store warranty... So i told the store that i will return the phone if there are any costs.
The store told me that they will wait on the diagnose of HTC which i have sent it to myself to reduce the time.
If the diagnose tells that it's not my fault, then i can return my phone probably.... He couldn't promise it due that i want to see the diagnose first.
So I will wait on HTC's conclusion.... And i'm afraid that they will try to blame me for it....
They better not I will be a pain in there arses
Hello, I have exactly the same problem. After flashing from energyrom 3.0 to Aurora, a few hours later, i couldn't get my phone out of lock. (slide a button to the right or left on your touchscreen)
I tried a soft reset, but the phone started up with the same locked screen. So, i tried a hard reset. From that moment on i got stuck at "align screen". I ve flashed several times with several ROM's but nothing. (by the way, whatever rom i install, the first screen always says: Energyrom by NTGZ28)
I used the trick to paste welcome.not on the micro card, to bypass the align screen. That works, but the touch screen doesn't work. I 've removed the protection of the screen, but that doesn't make a difference either. My device didn't fall, came into contact with water or anything that could harm the thing. Oh, when the backlight is dimmed, the screen reacts to tapping it. Please help me out ??
resolt the issue. Because of a lot scraches (spelled ok?), i removed the protective screen. When i put the new screen on, everything worked !

[Q] Froyo problem or water damage maybe?

Hi all,
First post into this forum so be gentle
I've got a Samsung Galaxy S (i9000)
About two months ago I did drop it in a bath (parties eh?) and dried it out for a couple of days in rice, which seemed to have recovered it - bottom buttons did flicker for a bit before I did this (i know, i know, i shouldn't have even switched it on!) Problems seem to have been solved, drying it out seemed to have worked perfectly!
Few weeks ago I got it flashed manually by Samsung Service Centre from Android 2.1 to Froyo 2.2,
However, for about a week now I've been having issues with the same buttons on the bottom of the phone (touch sensitive Back button and Options button) but no problems with the Home button. Odd thing is it isn't persistent, every so often they will work - about 20% of the time - sometimes after hitting the lock button and unlocking the phone.
So.... the ultimate question is, do you think this is a software problem or hardware problem? (Froyo or water damage?!)
I havent done a factory reset just yet, need to spend some time to back stuff up - first thing to try?
Any suggestions would be great, or if you have experienced any similar problems.
Thanks!
Most certainly looks like the water did some damage, but maybe you could try formatting and hard reset but i dont think Froyo has this issue
Ok an update on this, restored the phone back to factory settings. Still having the same issues with the buttons, however they work after a few locks and unlocks of the phone, last about 15-20 presses within the same screen but can go if I switch application.
I'm suspecting there may still be some dampness in the phone so I'm going to try the rice method again and ordered some mini screwdrivers to have a look inside and see what the issue could be.
I just find this odd the problem has only occured within the last week, unless the phone has been exposed to more water (rain) without me noticing.
Do Samsung Galaxy Ss have a water damage indicator?

I think its on the back when you remove the back plate, there is a white sticker

Captivate with soft button issues.

Hey guys I'm posting today because I have a little problem or a huge problem I should say at this point. Anyways, I've owned a Captivate since they first came out a couple months ago. I've never had any problems with mine up until about 2 or 3 months ago when the phone started doing something weird. The bottom row of soft buttons on the phone will press themselves. Now only the back button and home button press themselves. The problem started out around the time I flashed Serendipity for the first time (not blaming the rom) I noticed the buttons would press themselves randomly at times and it started out slow, maybe once or twice a day and it didn't really annoy me. Flash forward to today and my phone is practically unusable because of this problem. Any time I wake the device from sleep the home and back buttons will rapidly press themselves over and over and over until I furiously tap either button to get the buttons to stop pressing themselves.
The problem will restart itself about 30 seconds after stopping it and It never stops. I've tried numerous re-flashes with no avail. At first I thought the problem was caused by a bad flash on my part because the problem started after I had just flashed a new rom. But I've known for a while now that wasn't the case. I've never dropped this phone or submerged it in water. This problem just popped up out of the blue one day and never went away.
Do I have a defective phone?
Thanks for the help.
Had the same problem, not to the extent your having more like once an hour they would go crazy. Placed the phone in some rice over night and the problem was gone. Im pretty sure, for me at least, was condensation had worked its way under the glass and was causing contact problems. Worth a shot for you. Never had the problem again after that.
I never even found out how it happened, though I suspect the steam from a hot shower did it.
how is your gps? if it sucks, go for warranty while you can, samsung has a 1 year warranty cross your fingers for a better replacement, or if you go through Att and you get a refurb who knows..... the board inside wont match the date under the battery and who knows how it will work.

I'll try the rice thing, can't believe I've never thought of that. I've never dropped water on the phone but it has been in the bathroom with me when I've taken showers or what not. Thanks for the idea.

My GPS does indeed suck, It takes about 5-10 minutes to get a lock on anything sitting outside. My phones still under warranty until this November so I think if I don't solve the problem soon I'll just get a new one.
Does ATT upgrade the phone to a newer version if you replace it with the warranty? I might hold out until ATT releases the Cappy 4g or whatever they're going to call it.

Touchscreen stopped working after soft brick...

Ok..
I had this phone for a while and I started using it again recently. I have fully replaced the digitizer/lcd bezel before with no problems (been a phone repair tech for 10 years) And it has worked fine.
The other night I reverted it back to stock because it seems to be the only way to get a constant data signal. Worked fine. I then updated it to the newest OTA update without a problem.
I then rebooted it and it stuck on a black screen loop with the buttons going on and off for hours. I spent 7 hours trying to figure out what was wrong, flashing, re flashing.. Nothing. Finally I get CWM recovery installed and find out my SD card is fried. So I put a new one in, and transfer over the roms I want t flash. 3 different roms, all with no touch screen.
Revert back to stock, still no touch screen.
Could something have gone bad on the board to have caused this? Is there something system wise not getting wiped that may cause this? Its to much of a coincidence that the touch screen and buttons would go out after all this happened.
Any help would be appreciated. Im waiting on a new digitizer now to check because Ive already gone over all the connections. But if its something software wise, Id like to try that before doing another digitizer replacement.
Thanks
funny you made this thread. i just got my hands on a soft bricked g2x that was stuck on the blue lg logo. after a quick nvflash it boots right up......but with no touchscreen. not sure if it ever worked as im not the original owner.
but i'll be keeping my eyes out on this thread for sure!
Id give a pretty to see inside both of your phones. Sounds like a bad contact on the ribbons.or one of them may have been ripped during a screen installation. I've never heard of the screen just up and quoting working without some major stuff happening to the phone. My guess is these screens were replaced with the wrong screen.just a guess though.

I have done phone repairs for quite a few years, It wasnt a wrong screen and has worked fine for a year since its replacement. I have already opened the phone again and made sure all contacts were fine. What Im trying to figure out is if there is maybe some part of the system/boot that holds the touchscreen drivers and they have bee erased?
Again, I find its a huge coincidence that it worked fine up until this happened then as soon as its booting again, stops working... Which is why I think its a software issue.
Try touching the corners of the screen after booting up start with the top left and go clockwise. One of the roms used to mess up the connectivity between phone and screen. And that is supposed to reset the touch screen. A old g1 trick

Touch screen is irresponsive

So I took my phone out when I got home, and suddenly the touch screen wont work at all. I can still get notifications and phone calls, but cannot answer or anything because the touch screen just will not respond at all. I haven't dropped it since I used it last or anything. It just like... isn't working?
I think this might have happened for a little bit a while back, but it fixed itself really quickly... But this time its just not responsive. I've tried letting the battery die and charging it, and the soft reset of the phone many times to no avail.
My G flex 2 is on AT&T if it matters
Any ideas?

It looks that it's really not software problem, but hardware malfunction, so you should take your phone for repair.
Try a factory reset of no avail then prob a hardware issue are there any major scratches on the screen and be honest lol some scratches can interfere with the xigitizer
yeah no scratches on the screen or anything. Only thing I can think of is it fell out of my pocket as I got out of the car into a bit of snow and got a bit wet, It was in a case and thers no physical damage. It also worked after being wet and stuff. All I can think of is that some got under the screen or something later. It didnt stop working until about three hours after that.
also, a hard reset did not fix my problem. I really have no idea what caused this or how to fix it. I have insurance on the phone, so Ill just have to send it it.
Sorry if anyone else has this problem! I have found no solution
