I don't really care about dropbox storage (I've used about a dozen mb) but I would like to know what this is doing. I never heard of a 50gb promotion. I got 3gb thanks to my HTC phone.

A friend just got this promotion legitimately and it's ONLY for a year anyway.

Its a promo given to phones like the HTC ONE series that doesn't have a microsd slot. I got my 50gb the RIGHT way when syncing Dropbox to my HTC one s. Its a modified Dropbox app that tricks Dropbox into thinking you have one of those devices. And its usually for 2 yrs because that's the length of your phone contract

IM POSTING THIS THREAD AS A FOLLOW UP FOR THOSE WHO USED MY ROOT PROCEDURE AND DOWNLOAD FOR THE BACKFLIP AND THIS WILL BE TELLING YOU WHICH FILE IS THE ROM MANAGER IN THE TOOLS DIRECTORY OF THE SDK I PROVIDED AND HOW TO INSTALL IT! and also a tethering app!
IF YOU JUST WANT TO TETHER WIFI SKIP THIS AND GO TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS THREAD. THIS ROM IS NOT NEEDED TO DO SO!
I AM ASSUMING YOU ALREADY KNOW AS I TOLD YOU IN THE 1ST THREAD YOU NEED TO BE IN USB DEBUGGING AND CHARGE ONLY WHILE USING SDK TOOLS CMD OR THE PUSHES OR INSTALLS WILL FAIL!
1st and foremost i HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU MAKE A BACKUP! go here~~> http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...nandroid-backup-and-clockworkmod-rom-manager/ (i take no credit for this backup tutorial all credit goes to Artem Russakovskii @ androidpolice
NOW IF YOU DID THAT IM ASSUMING YOU NOW HAVE THE ROM MANGER APP! if not you must be awfully confident! (and you still need ROM manager from the market...) i dont think u need the paid version to do this but just in case download the free version and in the tools directory of the sdk i provided, the pay version is there just open the command MAKE SURE YOUR CONNECTED (TYPE "ADB DEVICES" AGAIN NO QUOTES DUH!! AND MAKE SURE YOUR SERIAL NUMBER COMES UP ON DEVICE LIST)and simply copy and paste
adb install com.koushikdutta.rommanager.license.apk (YOU MUST ALREADY HAVE THE FREE VERSION!) NOW THIS APP IS INSTALLED ALREADY WITH NO PROMPTS!
NOW FOR THE ROM!
get it here~~> http://www.uploading.com/files/9d5m32fc/signed-j_r0dd.preclair.v1.0.2.zip/ (i take no credit for this ROM all thanks and credit go to J_r0dd @ modmymobile!) (DO NOT UNZIP)(there are other places to get this ROM but i forgot where exactly i got it so i just uploaded it myself!
I tried to push the ROM to my sd thru adb and for some reason couldnt ?!?!?! WHO KNOWS! maybe u know the codes better than me! BUT IF NOT NO WORRIES! just open your notification bar and assuming you havent unplgged your usb yet, select usb connected then select usb drive(or use a sd reader and transfer that way!)
now right click and copy the zip file and paste (DO NOT DRAG AND DROP WEATHER USING YOUR PHONE OR A READER) it onto your SD cards ROOT (not in any folder JUST DIRECTLY ON THE SD CARD!) it will take a few being that its 80+ Mb in size
With that done we will go back to the ROM manager and select Flash ROM from SD card. You will be prompted to "wipe data and cache" and "backup the system" Being that you have already backed up the system using the search info provided above (I HOPE FOR YOUR SAKE) just click wipe data and cache follow the prompts and the manager will do the rest! Your phone will shut down reboot and you will get the motorola screen twice like usual and then an android icon will draw its self out and flash green! (WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?) and this will stay for 1 to several minutes DONT BE ALARMED THIS IS OK! then your phone will load. Now you can put in your blur account info and whatever else you choose! any apps that you paid for prior to this will still be saved in the google cloud and will be available to reinstall from the market! YOU CAN NOW USE LIVE WALLPAPERS AND MANY MANY OTHER THINGS YOU COULDNT BEFORE ALL LISTED AT MODMYMOBILE Just look up J_r0dd's PRECLAIR and he has a list of the ups, downs, and all arounds! AND AGAIN ALL THANKS TO J_r0dd for the ROM and to Artem Russakovskii for the BACKUPS
NOW after this (not imporntant just really cool to have!) hook up your Phone through SDK (If you disconnected that is!)... type "adb install barnacle-24.apk" and for the last time NO QUOTES DUH! this app is in the SDK tools you downloaded from me already and AT&T has it blocked from the market! (your welcome again ) now in your app drawer you will find barnacle wifi tether open it click the button left of your home button (three hollow squares and a solid square also know as the settings button lol) check "skip wpa_supplicant" and hit the back button and you are ready to tether wifi to anything that accepts AD-HOC wifi EX. laptops PCs XBOX360 ect ect BUT unfortunately PS3 Wii DS... only run AOSS wifi
Rooting Galaxy S 4G & Deleting Fota Files
Hi guys - I wanted to shared with all of you the methods that I used to Root my phone and getting rid of the FOTA files and "Bloatware" which free up ALOT of space.
****I want to thanks "Theshadowman" for the Fota files and to the developer of SuperOneClick, the awesome tool that makes rooting possible.****
Before this fix I was getting the "Internal low space" message.
Let's get started
Programs and Files you will need:
-Samsung Galaxy S 4G Drivers 32-bit: http://rapidshare.com/files/456420295/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.rar
-Samsung Galaxy S 4G Drivers 64-bit: http://rapidshare.com/files/456420354/usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip
-SuperOneClick 1.7 (To root your phone)
-File Expert (to Unzip files)
-Super Manager (Access to /data/fota)
-Fota.zip (Files that will free up all that space)
Additional Files
-Bloatware (Thanks to Chadster)
http://db.tt/RFzd364
***Note:*** You will find all the files you need attached at the end of this post with the exception of Root Checker and Titanium Backup. You can download those by simply doing a search in the Market.
How to Root your Galaxy S 4G
1- Download Samsung Galaxy S 4G driver and install it. Make sure you know what version of Windows you've got. (I posted links for 32bit and 64bit)
2- In your Phone, Go to Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging.
Note: You will have to check USB debugging or else it will not work.
3- Download SuperOneClick 1.7
4- Open SuperOneClick 1.7
5- Under exploit MAKE SURE you select "rageagainstthecage" and then click Root. Let it do what it needs to do Note: the whole process will take between 5-15 minutes
6- Download Root Checker from Market
7- Run the test and it will confirm you that your phone is Rooted
How to Delete Fota files
Step 1: Download all three files in your computer and send them to your email and open them from your phone.
Alternative method: Download them directly to your phone.
Step 2: Install File Expert
Step 3: Install Super Manager
Step 4: Open File Expert and navigate to the directory aka folder that you downloaded the files to.
Step 5: Press and Hold the fota.zip file and select Unzip files
Note: File Expert will unzip files by default in same folder.
It will create a Fota folder with two files fota_delta_dp1 and fota_delta_dp2
Step 6: Open Super Manager and then open setup and check the "Enable ROOT function" then press menu on your phone and switch to r/w (stands for read and write)
Step 7: Navigate to the folder where you have the 2 Unzipped fota files (fota_delta_dp1 and fota_delta_dp2)
Step 8: Select both and cut them
Step 9: Navigate to /data/fota and paste the 2 files in this folder
Step 10:Reboot phone and WAWAWIWA! between 150mb-300mb of free space
If you want to get rid of Bloatware - Download Titanium Backup from Market open it and uninstall every app that you don't need.
Warning: Becareful with what you uninstall.
Hope this helps and let me know if have any questions.
damn dude that worked! thank you, this helps the phone a lot right?? Hey man I was also wondering if you know a way to fix the lagging for this phone?? I've heard of oneclicklagfix thru superuser once u root the phone, but I can't access it because, like I was told not too long ago, there isn't a oneclicklagfix available for the sgs g4 right now. any pointers? thank you
Worked perfect. Have 400mb free. I'm also wondering about the a lagfix for this device.

now you've tried using that titanium backup app...now how would you know which bloatware you can removed and which you can't.
Just in time omg!!! Lol just got the galaxy s 4g today for $280 ahhhh yeahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its safe to say that if you didn't read about a lagfix in this forum, then there is none yet. I would only attempt tools for other phones if your an advanced user.
If you have the bloat zip file, use that as a template to delete apps. Im not that experienced.

If you use the paid version, you can freeze the app first to see if it causes any problems.(trust me, it's worth the money)
If not, just do as fknfocused said. Download chadstet's bloat zip (in the themes and apps forum) and use it to see which bloat can be removed.
But it is pretty basic. If it ooks like 3rd party software, just rip that sucker out of your phone.

I'm glad this helped. No lagfix yet for this phone, but once you get rid of all the bloatware you should experience less lag. I'm pretty sure it will come out but I am giving it time.
Here is a list of apps i have removed and haven't experienced any issues after deleting this apps:
Folder organizer
Kindle
Amazon mp3
Double twist
airsync
facebook
news & weather
talk
layar
T-mobile tv
video chat (qik)
Desk home
media hub
add to home
gogo
inception
buddies now
feeds and updates
y! finance clock
slacker
telenav
drivesmart
drivesmart system
I have 328.23mb available on my Internal memory.
Awesome thanks for your help, I hope the lagfix comes out soon.

No problem man, Glad to help.
Dude I was fine until I got to part where I have to paste the files in the
/data/fota file. I cannot locate it how do I find it.
In super manager go to setup and select "Enable ROOT function" and then press the back button of your phone in super manager and then you will see the /data/fota make sure you are not in /mnt/sdcard/data. Let me know if you still need help

I'll try this when I get home thanks.
Thanks a million
The fota.zip rocks! It was driving me crazy that I was removing the bloatware, but not gaining any internal storage. It went from 24M to 356M after your fix. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
If we replace the fota (firmware over the air) are we not going to be able to get our firmware updates over the air?

Quite likely, without restoring them, if you've used the space freed for something else.
The files aren't really replaced, but the "placeholder" files that reserve space for FOTA have been truncated to zero length.
Removing the files completely will likely allow them to be regenerated, assuming you have cleared the space for them on the internal storage, should you want to get any FOTA (which, unless you're running stock firmware or are a dev and need the new firmware, is an open question).
=D my memory storange application space is at 318 mb now =D
Please give credit to the ones who made the files in the OP.

When I Go & do it The Xda Way & Hit Save I Get A Message Saying "Error occurred when trying to save the file. It Will not be saved". Also, here is some info about my phone I am running the ota 2.3.3, I am thinking that's why I cannot do it? If anyone can help me out I will appreciate it thanks in advance. Oh & by the way I did root the phone, if that makes any difference.

You can't get skype with video working, and if you do please PM on how to haha, second you have to go into settings and check "root helper" or like "root something" and right below that check "make writable" this is assuming you have a rooted phone, wont work without it. Sorry.

use root explorer to edit...... go to system and the tab at the top touch it.. the folder will become r/w... then long press the build prop and open in text editor.... it will automagically save the old prop as a backup...

I can't get root explorer because you need a credit card to buy it & I do not have one & you can't get it billed to the account like a lot of apps let you do. PS I got it free & the newest one I am going to try it out now what you said
Be very careful. Some roms, especially stock and also some CM roms, won't work if you change the name in the build.prop. This info is used for booting the phone. You could render the phone in a bootloop or just locked up at boot. Better to leave the build.prop alone if you are not an expert in Android development.
You can also change build prop using root tools. Google search for the apk or download aptoide from market and dl from there if the server hasn't already been killed.
I changed mine a couple months ago to htc visions for netflix purposes, long story short I went back to p999. I suggest you leave yours as is.

I HAVENT TRIED THIS ON MY KINDLE BUT IT WORKED ON MY T989 SGS2
GUIDE] Get 50GB FREE storage with Box.com on any device [until Dec 31, 2011]
First off, I'd just like to mention that I did not write this OP. I saw it over in the: xda Android Development and Hacking > Android Apps and Games section originally posted by K Dotty. All credit for this hack/mod shoud go to (her?).
I just wanted to post it up here so that everyone in our wonderful KINDLE FIRE section can take advantage of this awesome promotion before it's over. I did this myself and can confirm that it's: quick, painless and works flawlessly. Reboots and all; this whole process took me about 5-6 minutes. Hope this works for all of you, and if you need help or have a question about this please do just ask (but search the thread first).
*Random Side Note*
It does mention a backup in K Dotty's post, but I just thought I'd take one more quick opportunity to remind everyone to MAKE A BACKUP of your build.prop before you begin any of this. And in case you're wondering, I used a root explorer to edit mine (ES File Explorer to be exact).
--------------------------------------------------
OP:
I've seen this guide in various places but i thought it would be most useful in here. I have searched to see if anyone has posted this here but found nothing.
Basically Box.net are offering 50GB online storage (normally 5GB) to anyone with an LG or Xperia phone. If you dont have any of these phones you can still benifit from this offer by quickly editing your build.prop.
What you need:
- Rooted phone
- A way to edit your build.prop - build.prop editor, root explorer, etc.
- box.com app
First open your build.prop using yor prefered method and edit these two lines to look like this (MAKE A BACKUP FIRST):
ro.product.manufacturer=LGE
ro.product.model=VS910 4G
Save, reboot.
Open the box app and register for a new account and you should receive a 50GB account.
This offer ends on the 31st of december so make the most of it.
Dont forget to restore your original build.prop after.
Post a link to this thread wherever you can so everybody can make the most of this offer!!
I did this on my Motorola Triumph. Not sure if I'll ever need 50gb though.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
thank you very much kind sir. did this on my kindle without issue
Tested on CM7.
Thanks for this.
Peace...
I had gotten 50GB few weeks back, but realised that it got a file size limit of 100mb. So switched to Sugarsync which got no file size limit, but user interface wise Box is slightly better compared to SugarSync.
Is this 50GB of internal storage or is this storage outside of the device?
its like dropbox, its cloud storage
Followed the steps to the letter
a) edited /system/build.prop
b) rebooted and registered
;-( Got only 5GB

Actually for those iPhone users, there's no need to do all those steps. Just simply download the Box app from iTunes, then launch the app, then register directly from the app itself. For those who had already registered, close your account and register a new account from the app itself.
That's how I got my 50GB.
movieaddict this worked perfectly on my CM7 KF thank you!

There is a post on droid life about downloading it and I have tried that work and currently have 50GB. I would advise of changing your password though just to be safe/smart.

Awesome stuff! My steps, I am on CM7, using adb on mac:
- ./adb devices
List of devices attached
0D76000600000001 device
- ./adb pull /system/build.prop /Users/User/Desktop
582 KB/s (3041 bytes in 0.005s)
- The build.prop popped up on my desktop, I backed it up and edited it as explained in OP.
- ./adb remount
remount succeeded
- ./adb push /Users/John/Desktop/build.prop /system/
508 KB/s (3035 bytes in 0.005s)
- ./adb reboot
kindle reboots
- ./adb devices
List of devices attached
0D76000600000001 device
- Then I opened the box app and created a new account. Got a popup saying I got upgraded to 50GB for my LG device.
Sweet!
I followed the instruction on my Kindle fire and got 50G, wow, what a new year present! Thanks you.
I did this on my kindle fire, and only got 5GB. I think this has to do with the build.prop not saving correctly or something. I edited it to the exact way in the OP but it didn't work. It for some reason reverts back to the original build.prop, I'm running the CM7 port for the KF. I'm going to try and manually doing it on my computer and pushing it to my device.

The app given in that link worked like a charm for me
I did this on a stock 6.2.1 rooted
o I used Root Explorer
o navigated to /system
o Clicked and held on build.prop until menu - Selected Copy
o Pasted in same folder (made a copy file)
o Clicked and held on build.prop until menu - selected Edit in Text Editor
Used the Text Editor to make the changes (carefully)
o Saved.
o Rebooted.
o Loaded the box app, signed up and got 5gb.
o Then downloaded the app in the other link which downloads an app called redphx-box.apk, and used it to upgrade to 50gb.
o Reused Root Explorer and restored the file
o Rebooted
o Removed the phx-box.apk file
Thanks man...i just got my 50GB free storage. This is awesome
it worked perfectly on first try... extra 50 gb on my kindle fire
THIS GUIDE IS FOR ROOTED AND NON ROOTED USERS]Ok so guys. I was just messing around because this auto update thing was annoying and found every single guide out there. Non of them did the job well. One even freezed the download at 100% but still in memory -_-
Soo I decided to do my digging myself and traced the exact sequence of the update to its core programs and believe it or not it doesn't even have the name ota or anything like that on it!
You can either do this rooted or unrooted but more efficient as root
It can work on any version as long as you see this program present>>>Amazon Device Client Platform or ADCP
Now I'm using a 3rd generation rooted and everything modded kindle (except custom Rom) but I am busybox and whatever
Which can be obtained by just downloading this loving program courtesy of peniscorp.com..if you wanna know if it works for you just download E.S file manager...goto /device and yes you can go there without root ..just go there and open build.prop and look.for Soho...if u see it...you're good to go ...
NOW LETS CUT TO THE CHASE
Step 1. Press the thanks.button down below
Step 2 Make sure u do number 1 lol
Step 3. Goto your device settings
Step 3 goto applications
Step 4 goto Manage applications
Step 5 in the drop down menu (assuming all versions have it )
And press "all applications"
Step 6 look for the program "ADCP" or Amazon Device Client Platform
Step 7 as non root user you can just fc it and clear data and cache and just avoid checking for updates! We don't wanna remind the device it should be installing updates
HOWEVER IF YOU ARE ROOTED
You could just fc it and use Droidwall or any other firewall app and look for that sucker and block it!
Don't ever try to uninstall it!
Rooted or not rooted ..those pesky updates won't bother u again!
Ps.
Droidwall is available on play store ...you can sideload it of course ..and the app it self has a pretty decent GUI so I don't think I need to get into detail on using the app
Well that's it folkes and believe me NO other ota update blocker works for the kfhd 7 2013 3rd generation and I have Looked everywhere and followed EVERY guide
