I found a FOOLPROOF method to shut off updates for fire OS 4.5.2 - 7" Kindle Fire HD Android Development

THIS GUIDE IS FOR ROOTED AND NON ROOTED USERS]Ok so guys. I was just messing around because this auto update thing was annoying and found every single guide out there. Non of them did the job well. One even freezed the download at 100% but still in memory -_-
Soo I decided to do my digging myself and traced the exact sequence of the update to its core programs and believe it or not it doesn't even have the name ota or anything like that on it!
You can either do this rooted or unrooted but more efficient as root
It can work on any version as long as you see this program present>>>Amazon Device Client Platform or ADCP
Now I'm using a 3rd generation rooted and everything modded kindle (except custom Rom) but I am busybox and whatever
Which can be obtained by just downloading this loving program courtesy of peniscorp.com..if you wanna know if it works for you just download E.S file manager...goto /device and yes you can go there without root ..just go there and open build.prop and look.for Soho...if u see it...you're good to go ...
NOW LETS CUT TO THE CHASE
Step 1. Press the thanks.button down below
Step 2 Make sure u do number 1 lol
Step 3. Goto your device settings
Step 3 goto applications
Step 4 goto Manage applications
Step 5 in the drop down menu (assuming all versions have it )
And press "all applications"
Step 6 look for the program "ADCP" or Amazon Device Client Platform
Step 7 as non root user you can just fc it and clear data and cache and just avoid checking for updates! We don't wanna remind the device it should be installing updates
HOWEVER IF YOU ARE ROOTED
You could just fc it and use Droidwall or any other firewall app and look for that sucker and block it!
Don't ever try to uninstall it!
Rooted or not rooted ..those pesky updates won't bother u again!
Ps.
Droidwall is available on play store ...you can sideload it of course ..and the app it self has a pretty decent GUI so I don't think I need to get into detail on using the app
Well that's it folkes and believe me NO other ota update blocker works for the kfhd 7 2013 3rd generation and I have Looked everywhere and followed EVERY guide
They are Soo not fool.proof
So there you go guys hope it works as it did for me !

Install APK installer without market

Is there a way to install Astro File manager without using the market? Because if I would need to install APKs in a situation where I don't have access to the market (No Internet access, etc.) I would need to use Astro File Manager and if I didn't have it installed I would need a way to install it without using the standard way of using the market...
Plus, it would save me bandwidth to install it from the SD Card each time...
To answer this topic quickly. There is no way to install a apk without an apk installer. Be it astro or any other app. There just aint
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
So then you have to get one from the Market? So if you cannot use the market (don't have a connection) you can't install it?
Damn, the next release should include and APK installed because I am sure most people use APKs. If not, then why would they be using Android.
PS, wow no real reply until the second page... (Edit:kekkle's post and this post were on the second page after nobnut filled the first page with troll posts, since then they were deleted so now it's on the first page)
PS2: 100th post
Seriously now...
There is a manual way you can install apks without an apk installer...
Download the apk onto your desktop/laptop. Remove the back panel from your desktop/laptop using a hammer (a claw hammer is best but you can use a pin hammer if you have no claw hammer).
Remove the battery cover from your device (your Android phone not your vibrating butt plug).
Using the tweezers you normally use to masturbate. Find the downloaded apk and carefully place it underneath the battery. Reinsert the battery and battery cover.
Before you restart the device, firmly knock the device against a hard surface like the wall or a hard floor about 15 times until you are sure you have started the kernel flux capacitor.
Then restart the device.
If the device fails to start normally, take it back to the stockist and tell them you were born retarded and that you want to trade it in for an iPhone.
If you've got an HTC Phone you can install ASTRO (or any APK) using HTC Sync.
Can a mod cleaned this thread up, it's 2 pages of *****ing.

Oh you can? I'll have to look into it. I only got HTC Sync working on one of my computers (Windows 7 64 Bit gave driver error, XP Tablet PC Edition had some kinda error installing). But it's good to know there are options...

I reported most of nobnut's posts here, so that should be happening soon
Just use droid explorer and close this thread
or you can use adb to install apks.
so in short yes there are ways to install apk without market.
I use Android Mate for my file manager. Also MybackupPro which backs up my apk's. Ones I download from the Market, phone browser or home computer all get put in one folder & merged with a backup on my sdcard. If I need an app later and in bad cell coverage can install without downloading again.
From what I understand only apps from the Market are updated so I try and download it there first.

hmmmmm cmon guys help the guy out!! download sdk, and check the link in my signature. if you want more help pm me
You just need to download the android sdk and set the usb debug setting on the phone (Settings > Application > Development). Then installing is as easy as running "adb install <package.apk>"

where to start??

Ok I need a good place to start. I've read all the stickies and all he guides and still am a little confused on where to start. Do u root this thing like a phone or what, and I'm confused on the market, why is it not the whole android market?
Yes, you start w/ a root first. I used Clockwork Mod. it was my first time and everything ran smooth from start to finish. been on my tab for 1 week now and have not gotten bored w/ it 1 bit.
As for the market issue, you need to realize this is a Viewsonic device. They have their own proprietary market app. Browsed around before I did my mod and was NOT impressed w/ anything they had at all.
I followed the steps on this page and have not looked back...

Of course you need to get to the market from your device to install Z4Root which is not easy on the stock firmware. If you are right out of the box, I'd do 2 and 3 and once you have a custom firmware up and running with the marketplace fix, do 1....
Then you are in 4

This Video worked for me in getting Market to work.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l-nySibzeA&feature=related
The non-uniform market is the biggest clufter suck I've seen in a while. I realize not everything can run the same apps but at least let me SEE the apps if I can't run them. Hell, it might make some people upgrade their hardware.
I think it would be better if Google visually indicated which devices (or families of devices) each app was known to be compatible with and give us an option to view everything available and choose for ourselves.
Most paid apps also have a free version so we could try them out with nothing to lose and simply uninstall if they don't work on our device. Heck, we could even add to the list of compatible devices for the app if we find it works: free community testing effectively.

I've spent a few days now, trying this and the titanium backup method over and over again trying to get the full market.
I've never been able to get all the apps I wanted (e.g. simiclock, angry birds, yahoo mail), but after watching this video, I tried one of the sample apps he used (pandora), and I am seeing it.
so, do I have the "full market"? If so, is there anyway to get more apps (i.e. the ones I mentioned above).
Thanks!

[Tutorial] How To Root Galaxy S 4G & Deleting Fota Files

Rooting Galaxy S 4G & Deleting Fota Files
Hi guys - I wanted to shared with all of you the methods that I used to Root my phone and getting rid of the FOTA files and "Bloatware" which free up ALOT of space.
****I want to thanks "Theshadowman" for the Fota files and to the developer of SuperOneClick, the awesome tool that makes rooting possible.****
Before this fix I was getting the "Internal low space" message.
Let's get started
Programs and Files you will need:
-Samsung Galaxy S 4G Drivers 32-bit: http://rapidshare.com/files/456420295/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.rar
-Samsung Galaxy S 4G Drivers 64-bit: http://rapidshare.com/files/456420354/usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip
-SuperOneClick 1.7 (To root your phone)
-File Expert (to Unzip files)
-Super Manager (Access to /data/fota)
-Fota.zip (Files that will free up all that space)
Additional Files
-Bloatware (Thanks to Chadster)
http://db.tt/RFzd364
***Note:*** You will find all the files you need attached at the end of this post with the exception of Root Checker and Titanium Backup. You can download those by simply doing a search in the Market.
How to Root your Galaxy S 4G
1- Download Samsung Galaxy S 4G driver and install it. Make sure you know what version of Windows you've got. (I posted links for 32bit and 64bit)
2- In your Phone, Go to Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging.
Note: You will have to check USB debugging or else it will not work.
3- Download SuperOneClick 1.7
4- Open SuperOneClick 1.7
5- Under exploit MAKE SURE you select "rageagainstthecage" and then click Root. Let it do what it needs to do Note: the whole process will take between 5-15 minutes
6- Download Root Checker from Market
7- Run the test and it will confirm you that your phone is Rooted
How to Delete Fota files
Step 1: Download all three files in your computer and send them to your email and open them from your phone.
Alternative method: Download them directly to your phone.
Step 2: Install File Expert
Step 3: Install Super Manager
Step 4: Open File Expert and navigate to the directory aka folder that you downloaded the files to.
Step 5: Press and Hold the fota.zip file and select Unzip files
Note: File Expert will unzip files by default in same folder.
It will create a Fota folder with two files fota_delta_dp1 and fota_delta_dp2
Step 6: Open Super Manager and then open setup and check the "Enable ROOT function" then press menu on your phone and switch to r/w (stands for read and write)
Step 7: Navigate to the folder where you have the 2 Unzipped fota files (fota_delta_dp1 and fota_delta_dp2)
Step 8: Select both and cut them
Step 9: Navigate to /data/fota and paste the 2 files in this folder
Step 10:Reboot phone and WAWAWIWA! between 150mb-300mb of free space
If you want to get rid of Bloatware - Download Titanium Backup from Market open it and uninstall every app that you don't need.
Warning: Becareful with what you uninstall.
Hope this helps and let me know if have any questions.
damn dude that worked! thank you, this helps the phone a lot right?? Hey man I was also wondering if you know a way to fix the lagging for this phone?? I've heard of oneclicklagfix thru superuser once u root the phone, but I can't access it because, like I was told not too long ago, there isn't a oneclicklagfix available for the sgs g4 right now. any pointers? thank you
Worked perfect. Have 400mb free. I'm also wondering about the a lagfix for this device.

now you've tried using that titanium backup app...now how would you know which bloatware you can removed and which you can't.
Just in time omg!!! Lol just got the galaxy s 4g today for $280 ahhhh yeahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its safe to say that if you didn't read about a lagfix in this forum, then there is none yet. I would only attempt tools for other phones if your an advanced user.
If you have the bloat zip file, use that as a template to delete apps. Im not that experienced.

If you use the paid version, you can freeze the app first to see if it causes any problems.(trust me, it's worth the money)
If not, just do as fknfocused said. Download chadstet's bloat zip (in the themes and apps forum) and use it to see which bloat can be removed.
But it is pretty basic. If it ooks like 3rd party software, just rip that sucker out of your phone.

I'm glad this helped. No lagfix yet for this phone, but once you get rid of all the bloatware you should experience less lag. I'm pretty sure it will come out but I am giving it time.
Here is a list of apps i have removed and haven't experienced any issues after deleting this apps:
Folder organizer
Kindle
Amazon mp3
Double twist
airsync
facebook
news & weather
talk
layar
T-mobile tv
video chat (qik)
Desk home
media hub
add to home
gogo
inception
buddies now
feeds and updates
y! finance clock
slacker
telenav
drivesmart
drivesmart system
I have 328.23mb available on my Internal memory.
Awesome thanks for your help, I hope the lagfix comes out soon.

No problem man, Glad to help.
Dude I was fine until I got to part where I have to paste the files in the
/data/fota file. I cannot locate it how do I find it.
In super manager go to setup and select "Enable ROOT function" and then press the back button of your phone in super manager and then you will see the /data/fota make sure you are not in /mnt/sdcard/data. Let me know if you still need help

I'll try this when I get home thanks.
Thanks a million
The fota.zip rocks! It was driving me crazy that I was removing the bloatware, but not gaining any internal storage. It went from 24M to 356M after your fix. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
If we replace the fota (firmware over the air) are we not going to be able to get our firmware updates over the air?

Quite likely, without restoring them, if you've used the space freed for something else.
The files aren't really replaced, but the "placeholder" files that reserve space for FOTA have been truncated to zero length.
Removing the files completely will likely allow them to be regenerated, assuming you have cleared the space for them on the internal storage, should you want to get any FOTA (which, unless you're running stock firmware or are a dev and need the new firmware, is an open question).
=D my memory storange application space is at 318 mb now =D
Please give credit to the ones who made the files in the OP.

Anyone tried this ?

Why is KINGROOT connecting these IPs all the time? (2 months after ROOTing)

I have already made two posts about this, under another topic/tread, but as good answers has not yet returned, I start a new tread here.
(I will include the info from my previous posts, in the bottom of this post)
Original Question:
I used KingRoot to ROOT my phone, and I am fully aware that during this process the app will download an exploit, based on my phonetype/android version....
But from I rooted my phone (several months ago) and to this day, the KingRoot app is trying to connect to TWO different IP ranges in China.
It tries to do so, upto 40 times in only 5 minutes.
NB: And I have auto-update disabled, and also wifi update disabled.
The IP's it most often tries to connect to is:
14.17.43.* (on port 80)
183.61.47.* to 183.61.51.* (on port 80)
and sometimes it also tries to connect on port 443
So why is is that KingRoot tries to "call somewhere in China" several hundred times a day?
www ( geoiptool.com/en/?ip=14.17.43.150 )
www ( geoiptool.com/en/?ip=183.61.47.36 )
My system gets SLOW everytime the KingRoot app starts back up, and connects or tries to connect, as it is using a lot of system resources, while trying to do so..
Can I get an honest story of why it connects to your servers, again and again, after the ROOT process has been completed? (two months ago) ??
And the only interaction I have with the KingRoot app is to FORCE KILL it every time my phone gets cloggy/slow again. And when the KingRoot app gets FORCE KILLED, my phone starts working as normal, until KingRoot starts up again...
I would love to get a honset story about why it tries to connect to your servers everyday... And I wonder what information got passed on to you folks, before I installed my firewall apps, VPN apps, and proxy apps that gave me a clue to WHY the KingRoot app slowed my system down.
SOLUTION-BEFORE-REAL-SOLUTION:
The best idea so far (until we get an answer) is to install the following apps:
For a NON-ROOT solution, but I guess you already have root, hehe, please use:
NoRoot Firewall (NO ROOT REQUIRED) (EXCELLENT LOGGING IN-APP)
( play.google.com/store/search?q=noroot%20firewall&c=apps&hl=en )
To block the above IP ranges, and other things you'd like to block..
--> Xprivacy (ROOT REQUIRED) (XPOSED FRAMEWORK)
( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=biz.bokhorst.xprivacy.installer&hl=en )
>> App Premission Editor - Turn on and off permissions for different apps.
>> You can use it to "turn on/off" network/internet access for ANY installed app.
>> This app helps you to install XPOSED framework (It also has good apps/modules)
--> AFwall+ (ROOT REQUIRED)
( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.ukanth.ufirewall&hl=en )
>> Firewall. Deny all internet access for any app that has internet permissions
--> Hosts Editor (ROOT REQUIRED)
( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.treb.hosts&hl=en )
>> Almost like a Firewall - Block some IPs from working
>> A good list of things to block would be the IP ranges above.
>> Also you can block ADS and TRACKING the same way.

Try reading here.
But that should not be related to device slowness...
well...
Slowness is bad, but....
What I consider WORSE is the fact that it tries to communicate, all day long, with servers in china....
Why is this? Auto-Update is turned off. Rooting is completed, so no more need for using my internet, right?!!?!
What is this communication, and why is it any communication going on, at all ?!?

Good point. The king root developers have been keen to stress there is no spy ware in the app. They try to justify the internet use in that post above but to blast Chinese servers many times a day?
I can confirm this behaviour. I haven't noticed any slow down as a result though.
Perhaps one of the developers would care to explain?
Maybe a stupid one, but why keep the app if root is completed?
Cant you just uninstall it and install SuperSU for further root jobs?
Cheers

Well, after downloading SuperSU# you will get the question:
> "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?"
I press continue, and get this question/statement:
> "If you have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM, that can be used to (try to) install the SU binary. This is recommended for HTC devices. How would you like to install the SU binary."
I choose "Normal" (and the other choise were "TWRP/CWM")
( do't think i have a TWRP/CWM as I have never tried that yet )
When I press "Normal" it starts to install, tells me to wait, I wait for about a minute
and then it fails, with the following message:
> "Installation failed! Please reboot and try again!"
So good idea, but im stuck on how to get that to actually work....

I agree but I would still like to know of why the app constantly connects. So far no one has any clue yet.

First off, your steps are almost unreadable for a non-naitive english speaker...
"Why don't you just download flash SuperSU from recovery AFTER removing King root instead of doing it through normal mode"? doing what? and how was I doing that unnormally?
Secondly, my question still is "why does KingRoot connect to these IP adresses all the time" (flashing supersu from recovery does not fix/explain my original question)
My idea is to keep the app, as long as it doesn't sendt ital personal information away from my phone (that I have not already opted YES to send)
The app itself, does the job I want it to do (Rooting, enable/disable autorun) but it has some unknown data-transfers... my concern is with the data-transfers...
(I wanted to test the SuperSU idea as previously posted, as I could do much the same with SuperSU (but without the unknown data transfers that KingRoot does) - The test I did to remove KingRoot and install SuperSU, ended in me having to reinstall KingRoot to gain root again, SuperSU did not load correctly, and could not update its binarys. But apps that previously had gained root, now struggles to find their already previously granted root permissions, so after trying this, im basically worse off than before....Root apps that doesn't work properly, root permissions that doesn't work properly, and still KingRoot sending information away... (tested with NoRootFirewall)
Still have KingRoot installed (to obtain root) and SuperSU did not install properly (when KingRoot is already there) so for the time being, Im stuck with KingRoot...
(unless someone knows a link to a STEP-BY-STEP, well explained -noob like explaining, guide for rooting Samsung SM-G360F using other tools)
I started messing around with king root and had to install again over the top to regain root permissions. I'd disabled a couple of its services to try and stop the pinging. I think it worked but it broke other stuff. Can't you use no root fire wall and maybe servicely to kill it on a regular basis?

--> AFwall+ (ROOT REQUIRED)
( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.ukanth.ufirewall&hl=en )
>> Firewall. Deny all internet access for any app that has internet permissions
--> Hosts Editor (ROOT REQUIRED)
( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.treb.hosts&hl=en )
>> Almost like a Firewall - Block some IPs from working
>> A good list of things to block would be the IP ranges above.
>> Also you can block ADS and TRACKING the same way.

Why not just get rid of Kingoroot and install Supersu?

I am currently using "NoRoot Firewall" as I realized that all firewalls not using a VPN type connection, actually leaks stuff on other ports (non standard ports)...
So the only way to stop most of the leaking, is using "NoRoot Firewall" until someone with a packetsniffer/proxy/wireshark type program, finds out about what is really transferred (and then maybe also why it is transferred)
But, if "KingRoot" did not 'leak' info (or whatever it does) then there would be no big need for the "NoRoot Firewall".... So still im curious about what KingRoot is doing with those connections....
(PS: I've also done a "factory reset" on my phone today, and reinstalled only "Kingroot" and "NoRoot Firewall" but that app is still leaking....)
Thanks for your tip about "Servicely" ( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.servicely&hl=en )
I will install that right away, and give that a test aswell, since whatever kills "KingRoot" also makes sure that no info is transferred...
If possible, ALWAYS try a different method than kingroot. Sorry to the devs but the way they design they're exploit, you can't uninstall kingroot without breaking something. It's a shady Chinese app that i wouldnt trust.
Why the app is connecting to their servers? The reply is obvious...
I asked many times on the app thread, just filter on my nickname.
Do you really think a Chinese company will pay devs for this kind of free app?

First: I'm not a native English speaking person. If you didn't understand what I meant with my post it's not due to my "simplified" english but in regards to your language barriers.
Second: I wasn't telling you how to do it. It can be put simply as "flash SUPERSU from recovery after removing KingRoot". Google and search in xda will help you with that. Get used to getting your answers from those instead of expecting others to give you step by step instructions on how to do something that is so widely known and posted.
On a side note, it seems to me that the ONLY people that can give you the answer to the question of "why" King root does what it does are its developers. If they don't answer you, that on its own should be enough for you to just stay away from it and find another rooting method. Same thing as saying that something you're eating is causing abdominal pain, and instead of stop eating that all together, you keep on eating it while taking a ton of medication to aliviate the symptoms and attempt for someone to do some sort of analysis of that food and explain why that's happening...

Now your English was more readable to me, so I guess simplified English, when explaining steps, isn't my thing - Reason I believed you were native, is because native people can use quite a lot of that simplifying in their writing, so thats my bad... Truce?
Reason I asked for a detailed step-by-step is becuase i've already tried to replace KingRoot with something else (like SuperSU) - I did test this guide:
But that ended up in the following way: KingRoot was partially removed, SuperSU got partially installed (installed, but not updated, so not usable), All the apps that had ROOT, lost their real root acccess, only 2 out of 15 apps managed to keep their root, and SuperSU could not "take over root for KingRoot", so I had to do a "factory reset" of the phone, and reinstalled KingRoot (only working way I've found to root that phone -yet) and then installed "NoRoot Firewall" (to prevent KingRoot from leaking) and "Servicely" (to kill the KingRoot service, over and over again)

I do agree, its a bit like that, but with "NoRoot Firewall" and "Servicely" I have managed to remove the two "problems" with that app (and other apps with the same behaviour) -- So I guess im gonna keep eating my medicine, so to speak, until I figure out if the traffic is some update stuff/some heartbeat stuff/just logging of the app, and what the app finds out about the system, and its usage while being KingRooted, or if they do indeed leak personal information aswell...
And i'd really like to know - do they leak personal info? So guess i'll keep trying, and asking... hehe...
FOR EVERYONE:
But for those that has seen a good page, for rooting, using some PC-Cable-Phone-solution, instead of an one-click-app, for a Samsung Core PRime LTE (SM-G360F), then please tell me... (preferrably a method you've tested with a similar phone)
