Initial thoughts were yes I would.. after thinking about it.. IDK. to many things I unsure of at this time. Waiting for the official announcement and pricing to see. Like the UI. Can we have the tablet UI still? Not a fan of the phone UI on a 10 incher. I don't think there is, but HDMI out? I use that all the time. Also the 700 I think looks better, BUT having a Nexus tablet is a big piece making me lean the other way.. of course IMO.

As a Prime TF201 owner Ive been waiting to see what this tab was going to bring for a while.Almost pulled the trigger a few times for the TF700t but resisted the urge and let patience be my guide.After getting a Galaxy S3 about a month ago,I was blown away by how much smoother overall it is over my prime..Web browsing,phone browsing,app launching etc runs circles around my Prime.I was hoping to see 2gb of ram on this and they have delivered..Hopefully its priced @ $500 or less...Im in!!!

I'm willing to spend extra for functions. That being said, if they price this below $400 you are looking at an absolute steal and since most people use tablets for internet browsing/movies/gaming then buying this is a no brainer.
It does not meet my expectation design-wise....specs are amazing 300 ppi would be awesome!!!

You are supposed to stream all media from "the cloud" - no need for local storage.
But yes, a device without external storage sucks.

The orientation issue was fixed in 4.1.2. You can't tell by the lockscreen what the 4.2 UI is going to look like or what features it will add.
"However, Google Nexus 7 owners will be happy to know it also enables landscape orientation to both the homescreen and lockscreen."

Hell no. Since the JB update this tab is perfect, havent had a single issue so far. On top of that i need the dock for school and typing. I see absolutely NO reason to change tabs less then a couple months after getting this amazing infinity!

Its not so much the screen orientation, its the overall look. My GN looks great but its a phone and the soft keys are in a perfect spot. On a 10" display the soft keys will be located in the center which makes reaching them a pain, especially in landscape. The stock tablet UI that almost every Android tablet has used (except for the Kindle Fire) works very well. The controls are always where your thumbs are naturally and I'm not sure why Google has deviated from that design.

might as well get an ipad
But if it does have card slot (has this been confirmed?) and can match the screen resolution of the Inifinity, i might consider it.

Assuming the components are equal or better than what Samsung used in the Note here's a list.
- A more modern and efficient CPU with 2/3 more memory bandwidth
- A GPU that's equal to the PowerVX used in the iPad
- 5GHz Wi-Fi with channel bonding that doubles throughput on routers that support it
- BT 4.0 with aptX
- USB 3.0
- A Samsung (vs. HannStar) sourced display with greater resolution
- Samsung RAM, NAND, and Exynos 5 has a dedicated IO controller
- Updates directly from Google as they're released
- Warranty support from Samsung
- A bootloader that's unlockable without voiding your warranty
- Huge dev support
I agree with you about not changing out a device you're happy with but going forward people that don't need the keyboard, expandable storage, or the extra battery life would be silly not to get a N10 at the same price or most likely less than the TF700. The price is rumored to be $399 for 32GB. If I didn't need/want the S-Pen and 3G my Note would be on CL.

Besides the screen this tablet is not a TF700T killer. I am happy with my infinty and JB. The only thing that would make me even think about it at this point is that it is a Nexus not tied to a carrier, so the updates will come fast.
But my infinity with CleanRom is running killer right now.

I too am running CleanRom and it has made my Infinity a beast. No need to buy an N10, I'm real happy with my Infinity.

There should be an array of storage size options starting at 16GB. IDK if they will hit 64, but I'm sure at least 32. They're all about streaming. Also it has microUSB, so you can always use a small external HD for things that take up so much space.

Yea, I agree - I don't think that google is (in the short term) going to really make streaming content from them THAT attractive. It's too ambitious to bottom out storage options at this point. Maybe in a few years when things are better connected within their own ecosystem.

If the price is <=$400 I'd actually highly consider selling my Infinity + keyboard + extended warranty (including drops). I don't find myself using the keyboard as much as I had thought.
I do think that the specs are a LOT better, and since it's a Nexus device I'm not worried about Samsung not sending out updates.
Here's the ports. There's no expandable storage.
I see now that it has miniHDMI out which is good. I'd have to play with it before making any sort of decision. I still prefer the Infinity though, it just has more options.

I'm a newbie here... to both Android and the XDA Forums. I'm looking to purchase a tablet for no more than $400 USD.
I like the pros of the Nexus 7.... being that its quad core and its $200.
Still... the lack of expandable memory and DLNA is a sore point for me.
For a while I was settled on the GTab 2 7.0 (I have a GT-I9100 so Samsung Bias is expected). I didn't see the need spending an extra $100+ for an extra 3.1" on the screen size to get the 10.1 version.
This was my choice until some bastard (lol) mentioned the TF300T and now I'm back where I was before....
Now every review I've read... so far... owners mention having the dock. That's an extra $130 and pushes the cost up to $500. Now.... I may get the dock... if I WANT TO... if I indeed go with getting the TF300T but I want it to be a choice and not something I HAVE to get.
So my question is, sans the docking station, just HOW good is the TF300T compared to say... well... a GTab 2 10.1"? What are the caveats?
Appreciate any assistance forthcoming. Thank you for your time.
i don't use my dock at all. in my opinion the dock is only usefull if you plan on writing a novel or essays.

So it IS a functional tablet as far when compared to the GTab2 10.1? No drawbacks?
I don't have the dock, and I don't see myself buying it in the future. I wanted the TF300T for mobility, and it's pretty good .
If the need arises for a physical keyboard, I'll just take my laptop with me. The only thing I regret from the dock is the USB port - I can't buy the adapter in my country.

Yes....and is more powerful than the GTab 2 which is a dual-core machine (vs quad core in the Transformer).
On the flip side - the GTab has built-in 3G support. The TF300T is wi-fi only.
The TF300TG has wi-fi/3G...but it's not available in all territories.
The keyboard dock is obviously useful for productivity apps....but it's also handy for old DOS games, hacking etc.
It also has the SD card....and extends the battery life by 5 - 6 hours.
IMO, it's a more flexible device with the option of the keyboard. I use it as a tablet probably 70% of the time.

This tablet absolutely Trashes GTab2, better performance, better screen, the ability to get the dock if you want to. The one drawback I find is that there are more accessories for the GTab 2 (like the smartcover) but I think that gets fixed in time. Also Asus is famous for bringing fast updates and there is already CM10 (Android 4.1.1) rom out for the TF300. I would really get this tablet over the gtab2, don't really see any reason to get it, it's pretty crappy in the end, so laggy.
For me, the dock is just like an extra acessory to my tablet. I rarely use it. The tablet is perfect even without it. Of course, the USB thing is really useful

I would get the ASUS...even with its little quirks.
My ONLY complaint about this tablet is the lag in the browser...some experience it,some dont. it is annoying but not terrible.
and i have a feeling Jelly Bean will fix it.
the main advantages of the ASUS over the galaxy tab is the update time. ASUS has always been on of the first to deliver the latest version of android to thier devices.....Samsung on the other hand....not so much. i believe they JUST (as in the last month) updated to original tab 10.1 to ICS...asus updated their original tf101 like 4 months ago.
also the quad core is pretty nice for graphically intense games (dead trigger looks fantastic) in every day use though, you probably wont notice much of a difference.
not to mention the dock. i dont have one, and i dont think i really need one...however i would take one in a heart beat if i got a good deal on it. just adds so much functionality.
I hardly use the dock. Slightly annoying since it costs so much.

I dont have the dock , i dont see the need for it , has much of the use I do with the TF300 is gaming and to watch some anime. But is nice to know if ever want to do more then just gaming I can buy the dock and make it a netbook.
With the lack of a USB, How do you browse, add and remove media from the device using a PC? (When you don't have the dock).
Suppose, heaven forbid, I'm in a place where there is no Wifi, how would I transfer media?
If I can successfully navigate this with one caveat with ease, then we have a winner

You can still use the cable, or use a micro SD to transfer data to your tablet. Easy enough.
Only had mine for a week, but it works great with or without the dock.
Some things are easier with it, but still easily manageable without it really

Asus is quick about upgrades unlike SAMSUNG. The dev support is picking up, and the device is at an excellent price point for the specs that it comes with.

It has the tegra 3 which is much faster than the omap 4430. It also doesn't have touchwiz and is pretty much aosp with a few minor mods. The tegra 3 also gives you access to much more of the system ram. Close to the full gig. I've noticed on my galaxy nexus that only about 700 is available so it must share it with the GPU. That extra 250 or so makes a difference during multitasking.

Dude I was in the exact situation as you. Also have the SGS2 and was considering tablets like you. The Stab 10.1 was my 1st choice ofc until I realized for way less I could get way more.
I got the TF300T without the 3G because I par it to my SGS2 without any problems and both of them have BT 3.0 so its practically as fast as your internet connection can go on 3G.
Other than that I dont have the dock as I wanted a Tablet not a Netbook and because its paired with my phone to share the internet connection I have absolutely no issues with any type of connectivity. Other than that Your SGS2 SD card firs in the tablet so you could just copy stuff on there and plug it into your tab and copy it off putting it back in your phone if you want OR you could just install Dropbox to transfer files with like I do
With the tablet you get 8 gig's of Asus web storage and there is a app for it you can install on your home PC and on your phone if you want to do it that way too.
There is literally multiple ways to get stuff shared in between them.

I can't try any tablets out, cause they din't release in India still now,nexus 7 might come out next month,,,but might be overpriced here :/
Actually i'm asking my uncle whose in USA to get this for me, and only Asus tablets have international warranty

GNote 10.1 runs faster and the s-pen is great
TF700 is a bit laggier but amazing res and yes, a lot of apps aren't that great for 1080p

Lets ignore the higher than average build quality issues, since you can just pick a place that will let you return many times until you get one without visual hardware flaws. (make sure you do that.. pick a place with a good return policy)
I am seriously disappointed in this tablet. (it's my second one) It's really slow and really choppy. I would NOT spend my own money on this device. But that's your decision to make. I shouldn't have to unlock and void my warranty to make my tablet work at an "almost" acceptable level. Running Cleanrom 1.0 makes the tablet way better, but still nowhere near the level an expensive device should be at. I'll try Cleanrom 2.1 tonight.
When I say really slow and choppy, this isn't even with games or items that really tax the resources. This is while using things like Pulse reader.. or pretty much anything that has to scroll or requires multiple touch actions in a row. like open email, scroll to bottom to check something, and press delete all in pretty quick succession. You have to pretty much pause between each screen touch so the tablet can keep up or you get "Application Not Responding". This is likely related to the poor I/O. (my 2 year old phone, and 2 year old ACER dont have this issue)
I helped out a previous employer and was given this tablet as a gift.. I keep it because depending on how you look at it, it wasn't really my hard earned cash that paid for it. I'm sure there are many people out there who love their tablet... But compared to my much older and much lower spec Acer A500 this thing sucks. If you dont NEED the keyboard.. try the Acer A700 instead.
The screen on the TF700 is very nice (the serious light bleed is only really noticeable at start-up). I have had no issues with blurriness or general ugliness. Obviously with the high resolution things must scale and any applications built with low quality graphics will be fuzzy when scaled. This is not an issue with the tablet, but rather with the App developer. Any high res screen will have the same issues until all app devs convert to higher quality graphics.
After dealing with my friends terrible TF201 (prime) and now this TF700 (2 of them).. Which proves ASUS is either not capable of fixing the performance issues, or simply doesn't care. Either way it will take a lot for me to throw any cash toward ASUS in the future.

Honestly, i don't know why so many people say bad things about this tablet. No device is perfect, they all have their flaws... you just have to choose which ones are most important to you. Since I've gotten this tablet I've experienced nothing but good things... apps and games are fine and will only get better. Speed is fine with the browser2ram apk installed... and the look and feel of this thing is just amazing. Don't let all the negative comments here mislead you. I was worried when I bought this tablet then came here to read only negative things, but after taking the leap of faith I have no regrets.

I think it's a good investment. I love the **** out of my Inifnity. Yes, there are some QC issues like light bleed (very little in my case) and screen adhesive issues (again, very little for me) but I still think the price is justified. This is why stores have return policies.The best thing a consumer can do in this case, is to give the company as much feedback as possible. The majority of consumers don't realize how much influence they really have. Even the iPad has issues like these. Granted, Apple customer support is probably a lot more responsive. I still think people should not go into the tablet market, being so young as it is, and expect perfection.

I wouldn't recommend this tablet. I have had it since it launched and I waited too long to return it.I waited for JB to be released on it. It ran ok with ICS but now that it has JB its pretty sluggish and choppy compared to other tablets in the Transformer line that run JB(which was a huge letdown considering the hardware in this thing). And as of now, there nothing optimized for its 1080p screen. This tablet is just a little too far ahead of its time. If i could make any recommendation, I would say wait until the Nexus 10 is released.
Yea nexus 10 will be too late(and probably when it comes out i wont be able to get it, cause next year my uncle might not come down to india).. now i'm looking into nexus 7,ipad mini and ipad 3 :/

The first one is not the same as the second, the first one was the model before called the transformer prime, that one was removed from stores within about 6 months. I advise you to stay away from that one. The one on the bottom is the transformer infinity the one that is the better one. I have mine rooted and unlocked with cleanrom 2.4 and clemsyns 1.9 kernal. Boy can I say that its a sweet device now, stock it was okay but now its amazing. I would totally get it with the price of 350$.
This tablet has some advantages over the nexus 10 too.
Transformer Infinity's (TF700T) Advantages:
It has a micro SD card slot.
It has a dock that you can always connect to for extra battery life along with more ports.
Development is stronger AT THE MOMENT for this tablet.
For 350$ you can get 32 gigs of storage.
Nexus 10s advantages:
Better processor inside.
Better screen resolution.
Better support from manufacturer.
Disadvantages:
No micro SD card slot.
No docking station that adds battery life.
400$ only gets you 16 gbs of memory.
Not a lot known about this tablet yet to judge how great it really is or can be.

That is not the infinity. That is the prime (tf201). And yes you will be happy if you get the infinity

How does the n10 have better support? Asus is considered to be the best. Even if the n10 is a nexus, it's made by Samsung, considered to be the worst...

The resolution on the infinity still wows me though, its a nice looking tablet regardless. Sadly the infinity doesnt have USB on it however there is an adapter that plugs into your charger port to give you that support.
I have to agree that the dock is sweet but pricey, I personally dont own one yet and am patiently waiting for a Ubutu port before I make any further purchases.
Yeah the benchmarks on this thing are crazy if you do some tweaking, I will attach a pic with my benchmark on this post. It is pretty good.
Just make sure that it is indeed the infinity as the post says the transformer prime which is different then the transformer infinity. If the guy has the box the box should say infinity. Good luck man!

Except it's still Samsung.... updates still have to go through the original OEM... So if the oem sucks, so will update. Look at the galaxy nexus as an example...

No, it’s a Nexus device the software will be updated by Google. The OEM means nothing.

So far so good. I really haven't played with it, been busy with some other stuff but i'm glad i got it over the n7 or n10 even.

Congrats on the Infinity purchase!! You'll love it! Better choice than the N10 in my opinion. I had the Prime, then bought the Infinity when it was released and my girlfriend got the Prime. The only thing about the N10 that excites me is that GameLoft and EA said they are going to support it with their games. So that means the Infinity will get support too with its high res display!! Bonus!!!

As an Infinity owner I would have gone to Nexus 10. It is so much better device than this.
Just saw a video where some guy had opened 6 3D games and was multitasking and playing fluently those games. You just can't do that with this tablet. This will die under 2 games already.
So I've had my Infinity + Dock for almost 10 months now. While performance is good we can all relate to the I/O issues and laggyness of the device.
So recently decided to grab the Nexus 7 to give it a whirl. Really want to try the new one, but could be a few months away and so want to try something else affordable. So with that now, I've had my Nexus for just over a week now. It really is a solid piece of equipment then comes to really the differences.
I'm sure this has been beaten to death but...

1920x1200 (so nice)
mini HDMI out (it is a nice feature)

Very quick recharge of both tablet and dock.

Might have more plus's for the Infinity, but just weighing at least my needs the Nexus 7 almost seems better. At this point im sad to say I might sell my Infinity off. I like the device but ever since I've gotten my Nexus 7 I haven't really touched the tablet except for showing a movie on my TV (first time actually). And now in comparison to my Nexus 7, and seeing how badly my Infinity lags with commands its amazing why I never noticed it this much before.
Might try a few more things here before making a true decision of what to keep and what to get rid of.
What ever happens in the future I hope Asus's next product fix the dang I/O issues and get some good speed to internal memory.

I think you probably already know your answer to which tablet you want but looking for validation on it. Given you have found the 7'' to fit better in your hands and perform better for you, why keep the Infinity? You can buy a bt keyboard and external battery pack to give 1 or 2 extra charges if your out an about. You do lose the micro-SD slot but there are ways around storage limitations (cloud storage, usb card readers, wifi enabled external drives). If the tablet is not meeting your needs or expectations then move on. Sticking with it will leave the nagging lag issue in your mind and probably looking for it during use.
Since your manufacture warranty is almost up then you could try unlocking it for better performance.
Yeah I know. Just feel bad that a $250 tablet is crushing a $500 in performance using the same hardware and made by the same manufacture.

The n7 has a different version of the tegra 3, the cheaper version. The infinity has a new version and can go to 1.7Ghz.
But more Ghz don't mean more smoothness. Also the infinity has more pixels so it needs more power.
If I was you, I would keep the infinity if you don't go out often and the n7 if you do.

I actually debated what you are going through a few weeks ago and decided to sell my Infinity and Dock on eBay and keep my Nexus 7. I went out and bought a Logitech k810 (the typing experience is amazing and highly recommended) to replace my typing needs. I'll keep the Nexus 7 and wait until the next round of next generation 10 inch tablets are out, as nothing is really doing it for me at the moment, but liking the benchmark results that are coming out of the Tegra 4 and Snapdragon 800. Hopefully those live up to the benchmarks that we are seeing. I wouldn't mind going back with ASUS, but they seriously have to fix the I/O issues

That is ALL that IS really wrong with the infinity is the i/o. ASUS is stupid for not putting a better internal storage in this device. Actually, the N7 has newer parts than the Infinity, but newer does not always mean better. The only reason the N7 is so much smoother is the i/o, and ASUS is quite dumb for not putting a better internal storage in the Infinity. I am hoping for a new infinity, and if the i/o is not fixed, then I wont be going with it.

Yeah the I/O just became too frustrating to deal with, even with CROMI. Having come from the Prime, I was hoping that issue would have been fixed. There are a ton of things that ASUS did right but the /O issue is just too difficult to overcome and the Nexus 7 runs circles around it because of it. I'm hoping Computex brings us some new hardware, especially a new high end Transformer.

I used to own a Nexus 7. I traded up for the ATI. I am running disabled fsync and no data2sd and the experience feels the same as the Nexus 7 to me.
I love the ATI so much better. My 32gb GN7 was running low on storage. Now, I have 96gb in my ATI. It's great that I can add another 64gb SD in the future with the dock.
Having a real keyboard is awesome!
The 2nd battery is icing on the cake.

Yeah the limited storage stinks but did the kickstarter that has a micro SD/mini USB connection in one (really small) so expandability isn't an issue for me. Though I do support the 32GB + 64GB + 32GB cards on my ATI. It's nice to have the space that is for sure.

I have an Infinity and N7 as well. I try to make the N7 my main device, but i keep going back that big screen. I use my N7 for everything, except reading. I need my big screen to read my comics. Maybe i need glasses. But the N7 is so smooth. SOD is quite annoying. Even with cleanrom installed, my N7 is still more productive

I dont understand how with CromiX everyone is getting SOD. I havent gotten in SoD in months. Have you tried doing a fresh install timrock? Wiping everything including internal storage? and again installing CromiX?

plenty of times. i just spent a whole weekend clean installing it because of kernel issue. Just got an SOD about a half hour ago.
Well thankfully I have never gotten a SOD on the device. Actually first time I've heard of the term.
Now had anyone else gotten the issue where say you try to turn on the screen and it doesn't go on or delays so long it times out on you just to repeat it? I've been getting that a lot more lately.

My Nexus 7 feels much smoother than my TF700.
That being said, i've tried 2 different types of keyboards on the N7, bluetooth an wired (usb otg) and I keep coming back to the transformer.
The dock makes this device!
Since installing CromiX, i've found it a much better device.
I've now just removed a bunch of apps from startup and it is buzzing!
I can only tell from my own experience that:
1) IF you have a TF700 with perfect build quality
and 2) IF you are prepared to unlock
You will NOT be disappointed in this device.
However, it's also a question of how much you are willing to spend on a device. This one's nearly a year old
Maybe you could have a look at the Nexus 10, if that's available in your country?

i believe that the SOD (sleep of death). Example, you are done using the tab and you just put it to sleep (not turn it off), you press the button to wake it, and it doesnt wake up. At least not right away. It either takes a while to wake, or you end up having to reset it. This is what happens to me on occasions.

I've always blamed the TF700's lag on too little RAM. Glad to see the next version has double the memory.

I dont think RAM was really a big issue for the Infinity. What really needs fixed is the i/o. When folks start purchasing the new Transformer, and if it dont have better i/o, I will definitely probably go with a different tablet.

Some of us have less ram on our phones and they handle apps updating just fine.

More ram would be nice for multi-tasking applications. My phone is crap for having free ram, but my tablet I have plenty, and it has the same amount of ram.
Really thinking about getting this tablet, can't hurt to have USB3.0, larger battery, higher res screen, and well new CPU/GPU at least. Though the I/O issue has to be fixed.
Quite a few reports about the extreme power drain from Teg4. Apparently not yet harnessed at all

Have a link? I'll wait till the guys over at Ars give us a breakdown of the chip before getting too worried. I'm just worried about the I/O of the device. We've seen the benchmarks of Tegra 4 paired with a fast SSD in the reference tablet, so hopefully we see something similar.

Double the ram means nothing. As others above stated, i/o is the real issue. Faster memory and a better bus are what Asus really needs.

I'm already looking to sell my tf700 in order to get the new transformer and I've only owned the tf700 for 93days

Naturally they should update the dock over time but I thought they were moving toward a universal dock for their products? I'd hate to buy a new tablet and then have to buy a new keyboard dock.
It's not as if I can afford a new tablet, anyway.
(certainly not as I already intent to buy a Note 3.)

I wonder if there will be a version with the Tegra4's optional LTE modem...
And I wonder if the Linux OSS Grate driver will work on Tegra4 as well as 2/3. Hmmm.
If the dock has a usb3.0 usb port and the bad I/O of the tf700 effects the data transfer speeds between devices via cable. Then wouldn't it make sense for the I/O in the new 2013 transformer to be improved in order to fully utalize the 3.0 speeds

Hmmm..
MTP is slow to begin with, so it will make little difference there (my sgs3 takes just as long to copy a file).
And don't forget, ASUS is not officially acknowledging the I/O issue. I wonder if the R&D team even knows about it.

A lot of people are complaining that the new transformer pad is slacking (usb 3.0, 5mp back cam,ect..) but i think they are working to a sell resnably priced tablet rather then all the top tech and gizmos. If the rumor that it will sell roughly around 399$ for the tablet and 499$ for the full kitten kaboodle ASUS will earn some respect from me.
Just hope the dock for that I'd interchangeable with the current tf dock! So I could just buy the tablet itself
