[Q] Animal Crossing on the Xperia Play

Is anyone here a fan of the Animal Crossing series from Nintendo? I definitely am and I started trying to figure out if there was a way to play one of these games on my Xperia Play. After doing a little research, I discovered that the original Animal Crossing started off as Animal Forest, a Nintendo 64 game released only in Japan in 2001. In 2002 it got ported to the Gamecube and released for all regions. I have a rom of the Nintendo 64 version that had been patched for English and actually got it to load in N64oid! Unfortunately, it crashed when K.K. told me to set the game clock. Bummer! I wonder if there are any patched versions floating around that can get past this first road block, or if there is some way to set the clock in N64oid that I can't seem to find.
Is anyone else interested in playing Animal Forest/Crossing on their phone?

N64oid is on the SlideMe market now for android, and is being updated soon with very high compatibility.

Lets hope that includes Animal Forest. I tried running Animal Crossing on the DS emulator earlier but it was so slow that it was unplayable. It would be nice if Nintendo and other developers would recognize the potential of the Play and create their own android stores where they could release some of their older titles that could easily be optimized for the Play. I would gladly pay $10 for a perfect port of Animal Crossing.

No, not really. What I'm saying is that developers are missing a major opportunity by not releasing android-friendly ports of successful games they've created in the past. The nostalgia factor alone would drive the majority of sales.
The idea that Nintendo would voluntarily share revenue from any of their ip's with anyone is, well... Let's just say it will be a cold day in Hell.

Sounds to me like the emulator doesn't support the real time clock, necessary to emulate animal crossing...
Here is more info the real time clock, sounds like Animal Forest is the only game on the N64 to use the clock...

I wonder if this RTC patch only pertains to specific emulators. Worst case scenario, I think I could live with setting the clock whenever I played.

the device is a few months old mate, just wait and the big names will come, you will never get nintendo games on the play but rumor is that sega plans to bring alot of retro games to android, word is, it was sega that got all the emulators taken off the market

Sega is not unfriendly towards emulation. They hired Steve Snake, one of the guys behind one of the most popular Genesis emulators for PC, to emulate some of their classics for PC release in the past. Doesn't mean they weren't the reason the emulators got taken down, but just something I wanted to point out.

sega may not be unfriendly towards emulation, but like any company they are unfriendly towards competition

I used the japanese version of rom and got past the initial train ride but then crashed at entering village. N64oid should be getting that engine update anytime now. This is also my# 1 game for n64oid. Just a note, you can swap gamesaves between english version and japanes by changing gamesave file the same as the rom of language choice.

anyone tried this on v2.0 of N64oid?

I've done the same. N64 looked playable but when I got to that dog it asked me to set the time. So I pushed x or o something a bunch of times.. and it worked. But when I got on the train the game looked terrible and it wasn't showing text input/responses and the textures were spazing out and changing colors. I'm sticking to harvest moon on my snes emulator.

It said in the updates, v 2.03 that Animal Forest was fixed and support for touchpad/gamepad was added! Any ideas?

Not sure if this is old news, i knew the game was coming but i dont think gameloft officially announced XP optimization.
Game has promise even though it is a clone of GTA.

No not that one.
It's got a black background with drop down menus for the game categories. That's what I remember of it

The game was released for Android devices now but i cant find a Xperia play version.

But Gangstar: Miami Vindication looked better.

Gangster miami vindication looked better? Whats wrong with your eyes? 9mm is based on Unreal Engine. It look almost better than GTA San Andreas. Miany Vindication suckt and has grific worse than GTA3.

Miami Vindication was alright. I used to play it on my iPod.

NOVA 2 says that as well but if you download it and run it it says its not compatible. The only Gameloft games that actually work on the play need to be downloaded direct from the http://wapstore.gameloft.com store.

9mm is xperiaplay optimized. I have downloaded it on Market. This game is awesome!!

I'm being sarcastic, but I really am skeptical after Order & Chaos came out compatible with Xperia PLAY... but only worked with touch controls.

So is it compatible with the hardware controls or not? Anyone tried it yet?

I just downloaded this from the market and I can confirm firstly it is epic and not like a Gameloft game at all, has polish!
Secondly yes it is fully optimized for xperia play, well with buying!

New Gameloft releases?!

Seriously, what is going on with Gameloft, they have 3 new games that appear in the Xperia Play Launcher yet you click on them and it takes you to the Gameloft wap site which isn't showing any of the latest games to buy or download.
Anyone else having this issue?

I just bought block breaker 3. The game does not use the play controls, probably because the game plays in portrait not landscape. But it's a pretty good game, I was a big fan of arknoid back in the days

Yeah, I wanted Let's Golf 3.
I'd rather a Tiger Woods for Xplay but I don't think EA are planning on it

Lets golf 3 is still there for me. Generic world 2.3.3 in australia. Nfs hot pursuit dissapeared though I bought the damn game too now I cant redownload it (

I'm having that issue too. I noticed it for about a week ago, but I can't see the 9mm on my list, only shadow guardian and let's golf 3.

I bought the game also since it was announced on their FB page, I thought I can use our phone's physical controls since I saw the xperia play on the description. Like using D-pad on the side while playing it vertically..
Yeah arkanoid one of my old school fave too, that's why I'm also addicted to fireball (Nokia S60 game)..

Shadow Guardian and Lets Golf 3 will be released soon enough, 1st October was supposed to be the real release date (according to pocketgamer.co.uk) and they launched it by mistake, but only kn launcher, there wasn't any game on the site.

Android non-mainstream games ?

every site that I go to with game recommendations has the same crap all over again. it's like all the games are in this form:
level, there are 3 stars. you need to get 3-star play to pass the level with highest score.
I DO NOT want that, and everywhere I go to for games, everyone is recommending that. Piggy adventure, Shoot the apple, Annoying Birds, etc.
Android and the accompanied hardware are capable enough to run extremely extensive games, like some adventures and such, and I cant find those.
what I actually want:
A game that is long-hours playable, that has any kind of the in-game development, and that is not "in levels" type of game.
I like mystery kind of games, like Room escape games (finished all of Android REG, which are few and mostly retarded), maybe some RPG games that have a little bit more graphic than those "pokemon" type games.
some career games, maybe where you develop your car/character/vehicle but all that I played become monotonous after time.
"Defender" Game is an example of how it should be, and how they should have added stuff when you reach 300+ level. After you kill the first Dragon Lord and 2 Pig-man (at the same time) the game becomes boring.
Are there any BIG games for Android .. ? you know the feeling when you played Resident evil 1 and 2 on PSX, and you played it for hours and days, trying to figure out stuff, and it was sooo good that you wanted more and more .. ? (now that Im writing this I see that PC also lacks that kind of intellectual games and all you do is kill bunch of stuff for 6 hours of a single day and that's it)

look at these games:
Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Ayden*, Eternal Legacy* - RPG,
Samurai II: Vengeance - action
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X*, Winds of Steel - flight simulator
FIFA 10, FIFA 12 or PES 11*, PES 12 - sport/football
or maybe GTA 3 for android.
Maybe you'll like sth of these games?

I dont pay for anything so it doesnt matter if it's in stores or not (Im from Serbia, and lots of software and content are unavailable even If I wanted to Pay, I only payed for Adobe Design cause I work for foreigners and cant have final products made with pirated versions )
On another topic - Does Anyone remember Desert strike and the Strike series for Genesis/MD2 ... ? It would be avesome if that kind of games were for android, A simple helicopter you could play for months, cause of various levels n stuff... ?

For games from psx u can use emulator like FPSE. Im using it to play eg. Metal slug or tekken 3.
However i have XPlay and it has build-in emulator.

Yes. In FPSE u can go to setting/input/hardware keys and configure it. Im using XPlay ps buttons to play...

Wow man, Im in for some awesome gaming! Android game pallete really sucks knowing how it is a powerfull platform (stronger than 2003 average PC's in pure FLOPS power) and there is NOTHING good to play. Emulation is the way to go.

I've found Dead Space quite a good game once you get into it.

You have to aim at the door and press the glowing blue hexagon on your back, this should freeze the doors. Worked for me.

Just an update, Sega has stated this game will be released sometime around Sept 18-20 (18 for PS3, 19 for Xbox Live) with the mobile versions within a couple days after xbox live

Unless I am misreading the article, this isnt the one detailing when the release date for mobiles is... cant find it now, anywys it looks like Phantasy Star 2 and Sonic Adventure 2 will see possible releases on IOS/Android. Would loive to see these two games released for our phones.... that would be awesome.

If I had to pick my absolute favorite that are not in your list....
Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, Evolution, Sword of the Bersek

I would die happy for a Trizeal port. Oh! and Castle Shikigami 2, Psyvariar 2, Under Defeat, Border Down, Record of Lodoss War, Incoming, and so so many more. Of course, none of those are Sega games but given hardware similarities (at least in terms of raw power) it would be incredible to see some Dreamcast era ports. If Sega wants to get on the ball I would love me some Shenmue 1 and 2 (my PAL copy of S2 with the English subtitles is my most treasured gaming possession).

Any updates on when is this hitting the Play store?

The new date is Autumn 2012, so we have to be patient.
