[Q] Windows RT is compatible with ARM architecture - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Steven Sinofsky, responsible for the Windows RT said that this version of Windows is compatible with ARM architeture.
Maybe it's compatible with ARMv6, the same from our phone.
May we'll, someday, see a Windows RT ROM for P500?
It's a dumb question, since I'm not a developer...
But what do you guys think? It's possible or just a dream?
I'm meaning a hibrid ROM, like Paranoid (Tablet UI and Phone UI)

Jajaja i dont know if it.is possible
JB have many lags imagine windows 0.o :surprisemother****er:
Enviado desde mi LG-P500 usando Tapatalk 2

i feel its a long shot
but themed roms are always possible

The first thing that I felt after spending a couple hours of testing Windows 8 @ my notebook is: Wow!! This is so fluid! So smooth...
And my notebook it's a simple AMD Dual Core E-350 @1.6GHz and 2GB RAM.
Windows RT is a more clean version of Windows 8, it will run smooth on any device with, at least, 1 GHz and 512MB RAM.
Maybe our device could run WinRT too, with some lag, but running nice! hahaha

How can you guys even think of WinRT to work on our phones? We aren't able to run even B2G..!!!

Yeah, but with OC, our phone gets up to 729MHz without frying the CPU.
As I said, maybe it will run Windows RT, a bit laggy, buuut...

Windows RT system is about 6Gs(with basic apps to work) big. It would be a miracle to see a Transformer Prime run RT, let alone this phone.

Considering that the Tegra 2 is a RISC CPU and to my knowledge the only Windows version that is written for RISC CPUs is WinCE I'm guess the answer to your question is yes and no. Yes technically an OS made by MS in the Windows "family" (WinCE) could be ported to the gtab but realistically the kind of windows variant that I think you're looking for (XP/Win7) no. And you're right this is a powerful piece of hardware... way more that is necessary for WinCE so on al counts it's doubtful that windows will ever make it onto the gtab.
Actually I believe if someone can rip the proper files from the dual booting 10" viewsonic this might be possible. I would have to look at the internals, but I would assume they are the same. I know it is running win7 starter and I believe Android 1.6. I was actually gonna look at that this weekend. Problem is with the small internal memory might be worth it to invest in a 32gb chip.

Actually there is a reason that it is running android 1.6. 1.6 has a compiled version that runs on x86 architecture.
No dice on win 7 on this puppy sorry
Scratch that. I just looked at the specs and they are not even close other than the screen. Well it was a thought.

The other tablet is uses Intel Atom CPU, hence why it works, would have been nice if that tablet had Android 2.2....but who wants Win7 when you got android....hahaha
I agree about android over win, but I always like to have the ability to. I have my linux box w/ a tiny Win7 partition. Course every time I log into it. I remember why I stopped using windows

The VS 10" multi-boot tablet has an Atom (x86) CPU and dual boots Windows 7 and Android 1.6 (IIRC).
The only thing vaguely like Windows that you MIGHT be able to get on the gTab will be some version of wince(and I do -- they're trying to call it Windows Mobile now since wince was so awful, but it sounds like it hasn't helped).
I'd actually like to see how well WinMo 6.5, like my old touch pro had, would run on a g-tab. I really enjoyed that old phone.

Possible to port Windows 8 ARM?

Just curious about this, do you think it might be possible to port Windows 8 ARM to our Transformer, Xoom and so on? What would be the system requirements of such a thing?
I love this future questions that nobody know
Just a guess mostly likey yes
I guesses most of the drivers will be exist the development will start fast
But lets wait
Windows 8 comes out when? Early 2013?

Actually, we can still start now.
Many people (incl. myself) already have the leaked build 7989
CPU: 1 GHz or faster
RAM: 1 GB ( for 32-bit) and 2 GB (for 64-bit)
Hard disk: 16 GB (for 32-bit) and 20 GB (for 64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

1) Is it the arm version?
2) is it a legit version.
Between now and forever...depending on licencing...there would prabobly zero development with windows 8 on xda.
Unless the device speciafically comes with it...or ms allows people to install/buy it into a specific target device, distributing a rom containing windows 8 would be like posting a pirated copy of windows.
So as far windows 8 development on the tf, not gonna happen

With the leak of build 7989, i'd love to see a port for the transformer. In fact, i bought the transformer exclusively because of win8, as I need one note.
why did you buy this for windows 8? Asus has many almost identical tablets (albeit a bit thicker) that run windows 7 fine. And microsoft said that any computer that could run windows 7 could run windows 8.

A msft video which shows a prototype tablet powered by a kal-el quad-core arm soc running windows 8, was really stunning. That should be it.
Sounds like a neat project. There's got to be a significant amount of driver porting work to do though.

the only other asus tablet runs at $1000+, and has poor battery life. win 8 with arm support will be the way to go.
6 months from now the transformer will look like a piece of crap compared to what will be out. If you want windows 8 the best option would be to buy a new tablet that has it on there. The best point was made on the previous page which stated porting windows will be considered piracy and therefore banned from the forum. IF Microsoft releases windows 8 ARM as an installer (usb,cd,flash chips, who knows...) then there could be guides on here but NO ROMS as Windows is not FOSS. Then there's the price to consider... Don't get me wrong I would love Windows 8 on my TF but be realistic, it's not gonna happen.
it wouldn't be piracy if you were able to provide a legitimate proof of purchase.windows requiresaproduct key so if you went to the store and bought the disk then if someone found a way to modify the install process to run on transformer you could enter your product key and it would be perfectly legit. Allot of hard work but legal nonetheless
I am 100% there will be no Windows 8 development for Asus transformer at least on xda, and the other thing I am pretty sure about that Asus TF won't be able to run it, seriosly you think that Microsoft will make windows 8 so optimized that it work on "smartphone" processor Tegra 2? Nothing against windows, love it, but I think that tegra 2 processors are not powefull enough to run desktop OS. If there will be anykind of port of windows 8 on TF I would install it right away, but what can you do on it having only 1gig of ram? Check email on glitchy IE(I personaly hate it)? And by the time Windows 8 is going to be released, there will be new TF2. So insted of hoping for port of windows 8 on TF, better start saving money for TF2 or Windows 8 tablet which would give full new windows experience insted of ported one!

Which OS is used more?

This thread is actually aimed toward developers and advanced users, but anyone is welcomed to respond. I am curious about which OS is preferred by those that help us all. Overall, windows is more prevalent. But I suspect that a lot of people here use other things.
I will start off. Up until a few weeks ago, I used windows solely. Then I developed an interest in Linux. I just updated my dual booted Win XP/Ubuntu machine today. But, up until a month ago I used a Win7 machine. I still have a lot, and I mean a lot, of learning to do with Linux.
Now, who's next?
Ubuntu, might change with Windows 8 we will see.
I am not amused with your phones performance

Well you would save a lot of money if you built your own computer. Your options are a lot less limited, and you get to have fun doing it. I don't know how much you plan to spend on the HP but I built my computer for about $1100 and I have a six core processor overclocked at 4ghz with a 2gb radeon HD 6950 graphics card, 8 gigs of corsair vengeance ddr3 1600mhz, a ssd and a 1tb 7200rpm western digital caviar black hdd. Maybe Ubuntu ported and Wine to run some Windows apps. That I could see as remotely possible.

Look up the new view sonic tablet. Somehow they do it o.o and iv already got a basic idea of how to get linux onto the tablet but if I could run windows that would just be cool.

LG are supposed to be releasing a new handset soon with VMWare already on board. You might be able to use a virtual Win 7 mobile, or if/when Win 8 gets ARM support, use Win 8?
The Viewsonic does it by shipping with an Intel processor. Most Android devices have ARM processors, which makes it much more complicated. You would need an emulator like VMWare.
But its doable? Because I think the asus can handle it
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Not really, the problem is that windows in its actual version doesn't run on the ARM-architecture used in all Android-Tablets. If Windows 8 comes with an ARM-Version it could be possible to get it on Android-Tablets. Another Problem is, that Windows is not open-source, which makes it really hard to modify it.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It would take an entirely new kernel to get it to run on an ARM processor. Everything has to change and I doubt anybody would be willing to figure it out and write an entire kernel.
The Transformer Prime has a Tegra 3 CPU, meaning ARM architecture. You would need an ARM version of Windows to run on it (meaning Win8). Also, correct me if I am wrong, Windows applications need to be compiled to run on ARM as well. Meaning, you can just download anything and expect it to install.
EDIT: The Viewsonic tablet in question has an Intel Atom processor (which is x86), an Atom N455 to be exact. That's why Windows has no problem running on it.
Oh.....but win8 would work? ....I know the ipad has a win emulator
