Since Motorola is not including the Webtop any longer in RAZR Maxx HD / RAZR HD ... can anyone point to how to install the APKs on this new RAZR? I have extracted the APKs from an older RAZR Maxx ... however when trying to install them on the HD ... they fail to install. Any insight would be helpful, as he Webtop is useful at the office.

Plug your Razr HD in via USB, open the files, drag them into the main folder, download Appinstaller on your phone, enable unknown sources in your security settings tab and thats all.
I don't think you can install them like that, but you can try moving them to the system/app folder changing permissions to rw-r-r and then rebooting

sorry ... neither suggestion worked ... does anyone else have any suggestions to try? What is making the install say " Application not installed" ? Is there somehting in the smali that needs to be edited to stop preventing installation from succeeding?

It probably has other dependencies and you need more than just the apks to get it to work. I am also interested in this ability. I just ordered the razr maxx hd which comes in this week. I will see if I can snag a system dump from the regular razr maxx.
EDIT: So far no luck on locating a system dump or ROM with webtop. Half the download links are not working. It seems webtop went away on the razr during the ICS update.

Webtop was an install option when flashing new roms on the bionic. I suspect that we'll have to wait for Safestrap before we can get webtop.

Pull system through adb. I am sure you can search for a step-by-step or someone can chime in. I am short on time right now. Sunday I will dig in deeper with this phone especially since safestrap is available now.

Can someone point me to a dump of either the RAZR or the RAZR MAXX or even the Bionic ICS (4.04) dump. It has to be the ICS one. I think I can figure it out if I have that. I've been trying to do it myself, but I cant seem to open up the images from FXZ on my Mac. If someone else can do it and send it to me, let me know.

And just an FYI the WelcomeWebtop.apk is just that welcome screen that pops up when webtop starts that i imagine most people click to not come up again
I'm still having no luck ... anyone else have any ideas to get this working on the Razr HD?
I think there's not enough of a hacker following on the Razr HD yet. Maybe because Motorola screwed themselves out of a modder's phone reputation by refusing to allow unlocked bootloaders for a bunch of their former devices. I am also interested in this, but I don't have any programming experience. Any way to logcat the setup/install process to find out what fails to install or initiate from just running the .apks?
This post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697076 appears to link to the full webtop reinstall method for Atrix, so it has the img of webtop... didn't say what version though. Might be what we need to get this development rollin again. I'm downloading the webtop.img file, and I'll give an update on what it contains.

I tried this link on XDA, but after booting in AP fastboot mode and starting a prompt command, as it is discribe in the post, it says "INFOUnkown partition name webtop"

Can't wait for Fission to come to the D2 Global. I had the regular D2 and loved it! I'm getting great benchmarks on the D2 Global with all the bloat running so I can't wait to see Fission on it! Keep up the good work guys!
There was a post on Howard forums by a guy who claimed he'd tell a developer how to unlock the US GSM radio bands for the D2 G and the D Pro I don't know if he's lying or not but it might be worth looking into if you wanted to put it in a ROM for the D2 Global once the SBF comes for it.
Hehehe what's sbf, I might pick up the droid2 we, but I don't like motblu, and this would be awesome!!

SBF means system boot file. Basically flashes your phone back to a stock ROM and that way if you tweak to much or mess something up you can flash the SBF and you will have a relatively clean slate.
Any chance of getting a port for the D2? Playing around with one of these in the store, seeing a bunch of enhancements. (Themes/Scenes, a predictive-like function in the dialer, SMS/MMS enhancements and a few more that I can't remember...)

Droid 2 has been rooted, themed, and ROM'd for a while now.. Maybe you're misunderstanding something?.. or I am.
Fission ROM Manager now working with Global. All thats in there for now is this ROM. Other stuff still needs to be tested and Fission 2.3 for Droid Global will pop up later today or tomorrow for those that are willing to flash with no SBF. I just installed Fission on Global and it is running sweet
Fission ROM Manager will be a work in progress as I test themes and other stuff so please be patient while FRM populates with Global stuff.

Come to IRC when the test build for Global is ready to be sent for testing...will be once DX builds are completed.

Milestone 2?
I'm a little confused, living in the UK here and the device we have for sale to us here is the Motorola Milestone 2. I am very interested in the development of custom ROMs on this device (and have installed "Droid 2 Bootstrap" which is working nicely.)
My question is, are there any differences between the Milestone 2 and the Droid 2 World? I'm guessing the keyboard layout will be set for US layout ($ instead of £ but that's how my milestone 2 appears to be functioning anyway strangely.)
Any guidance on this would be highly appreciated, I have done a lot of research but was unable to confirm if the Milestone2 and the Global are the same device other than the paint on the keyboard keys?

Sure thing, I've backed up using ClockworkMod Recovery and see the following files:
- cache.img
- data.img
- nandroid.md5
- system.img
Would I be right in thinking it is only the system.img file you require?

I have to work today from 12-7 so I am trying to get the first RC build out before I leave so far everything is running nice

it can still be built as the old ftf format, it would just need something to flash /system and /data while in flash mode.
we would need to know how the motorola flashmode interacts with a flash tool though.
Gotcha. Well doesnt look very promising for getting a SBF or FXZ from but should be of great use for the developers.

I made the jump in went to the Razr HD from my rooted/romd x, this phone is great but it would be better if I could rooted and do my own thing. I know there's a few root tools out there but I need to know what the right 1 is for my OS. I'm running ics 4.0.4 now. I just got the phone yesterday and I need to do this before I update to JB because I hear that it's a hard route to follow after the update. Can anyone point me in the right direction.?

So I if I want to flash back to stock recovery, download the zip file, unzip, and there will be an img file that I can grab? I know how to flash img files via fastboot. Just wanted to make sure the zip file had the stock recovery. Thanks.
Go hear http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/28162-house-of-moto/ install this tool follow all the directions to a T then you can flash full fxz or save data fxz. The nice thing is save data fxz only wipes out changes to the system you made while rooted it doesn't mess with apps or passwords.

I just want to flash an img file to get stock recovery. I don't care about retaining anything. Going to wipe device most likely anyway. This just seems overly and unnecessarily complicated. Flashing an img file via fastboot is simple.
I read where SafeStrap is available for the Droid Maxx XT1080M..Is that so..and if so..please post a link..

The last update I remember seeing from Hashcode's twitter account said that he was still testing Safestrap for the Moto X to try to work out a bug. I haven't seen any specific mention of the Ultra/Maxx/Mini yet. He did say that the Moto X was his favorite phone to date.

WooHoo..we have a functional SafeStrap 3.61, a few "bugs"..but I'm sure HashCode will work all that out, Please donate to his relentless pursuit..
BTW..the Fast Boot files posted here do work, a Witness to the fact, but be sure and do the line edit as instructed, otherwise RSD will not install the FB files to a Maxx..

I've been reading about the CM 10.2 nightlies on the xt926 and want to give it a try. I'm no stranger to flashing custom ROMs as I have 10.2 on my nook tablet and used to rock Eclipse on my dx2. I'm a bit disappointed and apprehensive that I can't flash a custom recovery. My question is: Am I wasting my time attempting this? Will I be beating my head against a wall until I finally nandroid back to where I was or will it work? I don't want to go through SafeStrap if I don't have to as I want to go full on 10.2. Any help is greatly appreciated

Yes, unfortunately. I read up on it some more after seeing last reply and realized that I had screwed myself out of it. I am currently on 9.18.79. I thought I had read somewhere that you could force it through the stock recovery but that sounded really sketchy so I consulted you guys first.
