Custom ROMs, Fission will be out as soon as the SBF for global drops
i wanna hear what is being done to use this sexy phone on tmobile lol
good stuff also, keep the work up
Can't wait for Fission to come to the D2 Global. I had the regular D2 and loved it! I'm getting great benchmarks on the D2 Global with all the bloat running so I can't wait to see Fission on it! Keep up the good work guys!
There was a post on Howard forums by a guy who claimed he'd tell a developer how to unlock the US GSM radio bands for the D2 G and the D Pro I don't know if he's lying or not but it might be worth looking into if you wanted to put it in a ROM for the D2 Global once the SBF comes for it.
Hehehe what's sbf, I might pick up the droid2 we, but I don't like motblu, and this would be awesome!!

SBF means system boot file. Basically flashes your phone back to a stock ROM and that way if you tweak to much or mess something up you can flash the SBF and you will have a relatively clean slate.
Any chance of getting a port for the D2? Playing around with one of these in the store, seeing a bunch of enhancements. (Themes/Scenes, a predictive-like function in the dialer, SMS/MMS enhancements and a few more that I can't remember...)
A port would be awesome.

Droid 2 has been rooted, themed, and ROM'd for a while now.. Maybe you're misunderstanding something?.. or I am.
Fission ROM Manager now working with Global. All thats in there for now is this ROM. Other stuff still needs to be tested and Fission 2.3 for Droid Global will pop up later today or tomorrow for those that are willing to flash with no SBF. I just installed Fission on Global and it is running sweet
Fission ROM Manager will be a work in progress as I test themes and other stuff so please be patient while FRM populates with Global stuff.
Check the ROMs and Themes download page on teamdefuse.com for info!
Come to IRC when the test build for Global is ready to be sent for testing...will be once DX builds are completed.
Please be patient as things arebeing tested and uploaded to Fission ROM Manager
You guys move fast. I just dropped and broke my D2 and looked in here to see progress before replacement. Maybe I should move to the Global instead... hmm.
I can not wait. Getting sick of all this Blur crap. Almost went back to my regular D2 . . .
Can't wait for SBF to drop so we can install this, the battery life with Motoblur is horrid.
Milestone 2?
I'm a little confused, living in the UK here and the device we have for sale to us here is the Motorola Milestone 2. I am very interested in the development of custom ROMs on this device (and have installed "Droid 2 Bootstrap" which is working nicely.)
My question is, are there any differences between the Milestone 2 and the Droid 2 World? I'm guessing the keyboard layout will be set for US layout ($ instead of £ but that's how my milestone 2 appears to be functioning anyway strangely.)
Any guidance on this would be highly appreciated, I have done a lot of research but was unable to confirm if the Milestone2 and the Global are the same device other than the paint on the keyboard keys?

Did not know that the Milestone 2 was like that, can you get a clean system dump and post it up somewhere then I can see what the difference is.

Sure thing, I've backed up using ClockworkMod Recovery and see the following files:
- cache.img
- data.img
- nandroid.md5
- system.img
Would I be right in thinking it is only the system.img file you require?

Yup! You guessed it! You're still going to have to wait.
This still has all of the problem that the G1/MT3G (1st gen) has except it seems a bit snappier.
As this develops I will attempt to keep up to date with it. Until then if you want to know the progress of this port you should check (perhaps even subscribe if your feeling wild and crazy) here.

Yeah I showed it to a friend of mine that has an iPhone. Strange enough he HATES the phone and loved the bootscreen. He's saving for a Nexus now. I told him that he's a good man for it.
great setup and actually did run pretty smooth (navigating between screens, use of drawer, basic apps like market ran well). problems that ran into were around apps gmail not loading messages only shows header when trying to open reverts back to inbox with headers. happened also with some random market apps where would not run fully would revert back to previous screen. waiting for later release to correct will go back to older rom for now.

Like I said before, alot blue. But will be adding more colors to this rom as time goes on. As I said many times in my TP2 thread, I welcome feedback from the users. Working together is what will make this rom a great one. The direction this rom will take in theming al depends on what you, the user give to me in feedback. The only I will NOT do is, what I have seen on other websites. Text in place of the images icons. Maybe I'm just old and set in my ways, but I don't see the purpose of that.

I flash to DK28 from a custom Dk17, I thought that flashing the DK28 would fix the GPS problem I had in DK17. It didn't, found you need to return to stock DI18 and get a GPS fix then flash to DK28 and GPS will then work great.
Thanks to all for posting and looking forward to building a great rom together.

Need more infomation to understand what question you have. If you trying to flash Odin 1.6 DI18 then turn your off phone and unplug from PC. Run Odin, put modem.tar in the PDA section and pit file in the pit section. Now plug the usb into your phone, open the keyboard and hold the number 1 while pressing the epic power button. Now you will see a yellow screen, now click start on Odin. If you get that it failed, then start the whole process all over again until it does.
Sorry if this is down and dirty quick answer. But I really did not understand what you were asking. And don't worry about being a noob, we all there at one point or the other. It's taken me 3 months to get up to speed on Android cooking and still have a long way to go.
I am trying to flash using clockworkmod.
Firmware:2.2.1
Baseband
S: D700.0.5S.DI18
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build Froyo.DJ29
I am new to this on the epic i had windows phones that i used roms on in the past. I got the first one to work so i played with that for a couple weeks and thought i would try something else today.
So i flashed back to the rom you see above and the phone is back working.

I think it would be very hard to develop for a phone without having that specific model especially if your talking about ROM development.
The peolple that have develope floyo hands out to them im talking about out side developers none want to touch this phone same on them.
Sent from my XT720 using XDA Premium App
why don't you start developing yourself?
From what I can understand, you are expecting people who do not own this phone to spend hours/days/weeks of their time developing on this phone for free. If that's correct then you are making an absurd complaint.
It's absolutely amazing that we have people like Khal, Mioe7ae and others working on the XT720 like they do for no charge. It is semi-understandable in their case though since they have the XT720 and therefore do gain somewhat from their hard work (even so, it's still amazing what they do for us for free). To expect developers to give up their time to work on a phone they don't own for free (not to mention the fact that it's more difficult to develop on a phone you don't have like 3rdstring said) is just plain absurd. To say "shame on them" for not working on it -like you are entitled to have a team of slaves working 24/7 to make your phone better - is just downright disrespectful.
Forgive me if I've misunderstood what you're saying.
I fully agree to syrenz. It´s amazing what the guys here do for us!
I´m really impressed how people from all over the world can work together to create better software for our phone!
Thank you for this!

I think we should be thankful that these guys here work on our phone in spite of the locked bootloader!
Don't forget that the devs here are not payed for their work. They do this voluntarily. If I was a dev I really would think twice about creating a ROM for guys like you!
Whatever you say..
I didn't say I was a dev but I sure do appreciate the work done here by the devs and don't expect those without the handset to add to it.

There is indeed 2nd boot which the Defy uses to boot from another kernel. That's why they have that leaked 2.3 ROM and CM7 on the Defy. We could use that too. I already mentioned that a few times, but they just ignored that.
But I do really have a lot of respect for the guys that do development for our phone. Thanks a bunch, guys!

Every Defy ROM I've looked at seems to be 2nd-init from what I can tell. So, specifically, since Defy's CM7 is 2nd-init, there exists at least one 2nd-init ROM for Defy and I have logically negated your statement.
Nevermind. CliqXT doesn't check boot.img for signatures.
Second hand, but it sounds like the CLIQ/DEXT people have just figured out how to 2nd-boot with working radios. This was what reddit user Druuseph had to say about the announcement that CLIQ was now an officially supported CM7:
Druuseph 9 points 1 hour ago
The real news here that no one seems to be touching is the way in which they got it running. The Milestone team pioneered using kexec and init to boot into second kernels but it essentially turned your phone into an Android powered iPod touch; No radio access at all. Apparently the devs of the CM7 Cliq port used a second init after boot that allows the radio to load. CVPS caught wind of it and is going to apply this to the Droid X. If he can get it to work the DX might finally be brought into the fold.

So I can't quite tell if they are saying it's using a hybrid 2nd-init/2nd-boot or if it's just using 2nd-init. I'm researching this.
Edit: the boot.img the Cliq XT CM7 is being distributed with does not seem to contain Motorola signature blocks, so this looks promising...
Hello all,
Has there been any word on any custom ROMs for this device? Things like MIUI, Cyanogenmod, for example. I wonder if maybe the ROM developers are waiting for official 7+ ICS builds to be available. Anyway, just wanted to check and make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks!

Hello
i am going to be working on a custom ROM based on stock very soon but i think im the only one as not a lot of people see a point on working on honeycomb as ICS may be available in Q2 but we are not 100% sure as of yet.
and yes you are correct about the matter on waiting for the official ICS update but its also a matter of retrieving the sauce codes from Samsung inc. they seem determined not the share them with the public as they have made an ICS based tab similar to our tab in appearance but totally different as far as the hardware is concerned. The new Samsung galaxy tab 2 it a low grade tab with extreme affordability allowing everyone to taste the sweet ICS within haha
but now Google are saying their is a new version of android coming some time this year called android 5.0 jellybean so that may even boost the development on our device as everyone will be wanting some jellybeans in the tab + haha
kindest regards Joseph Marshall

MIUI and CM7 are both Android2.3 based (definitely not including MIUI v4), we already get superior firmwares.
Actually most custom roms are just modifications of the official firmware. There is only 1 feature I want and the official does not provide. Just to remove items in the recent task list by swiping/clicking X.
Galaxy tab 7.7 ROMS
Has anybody tried to flash one of the galaxy tab 7.7 roms? I think they have about 3 roms over there. It seems as if they're almost identical in hardware, probably the only difference is the screen size.
i tried flashing entire /framework folder and a lot of system apks. bootloop
then I tried flashing only phone and settings .apk, booted but wouldnt open FC.

They would need to be ported over. I kind of remember how to do it with an HTC device (EVO and Incredible had almost the exact same hardware) but Samsung I'm not sure of. Need the Android kitchen up and running on your pc to do it. With an HTC device it was pretty much just taking the boot img file off the device with the ROM you want to port and putting it into the other device. There were step by step instructions somewhere on here but I can't find them.
No thanks, not putting anyones boot.img on my device. I'm sure it could be ported. Ive been checking them out, and they are very similar.

For ICS to run on our tabs you would need an ICS kernel, I don't believe the current one will work. My Incredible had to use an EVO ICS kernel in order to use an ICS ROM. The kernel from the 7.7 could be modified since they have similar hardware but I believe you have to have the source code available to do it. I also do not know how to make kernels though there is a tutorial on xda somewhere.
I am also not familar with the my tab or Samsungs software architecture enough to experiment with mine just yet. The only way I know how to make ROMs is using a ROM.zip file found in an RUU, you can use a nandroid backup but they tend to be buggy. The android kitchen pulls the needed images (boot, system, recovery) out of the ROM.zip file (or nandroid backup) to use in building ROMs.
I would suggest that anyone who really wants ROMs for this thing head over to Chef Central on XDA and start learning how to do it themselves. It took me the better part of a day getting the andoid kitchen up and running on my windows laptop and it is a good learning experience. There is a step by step tutoirial on how to get the andoid kitchen installed and how to build roms.

Yeah, I've got the kitchen running on an Ubuntu VM on my PC. I've only used it for my inc though. I guess what I hadn't realized was that Samsung never released the code for our device. Its a shame, I wish I would have looked that up before I decided on this tab. Do any other Samsung devices have similar architecture, besides the already mentioned 7.7?

i feel like i made the exact same mistake. has samsung ever released source codes due to owners demanding it? i know they don't have much reason to do so, but i was just wondering if it's happened in the past before.

ye and me....
i think peolpe are worrying to much about this device and i do know that a honeycomb rom can be made but no one will even attempt it its pathetic
oh well il be trying it soon super joe to the rescue haha....
Want to hook up my father in law with an Atrix 2 to use on moldcell in Moldova. It's locked and fully stock on 2.3.5. Wondering if there is a nice looking, super stable ROM that has a proper Russian locale built in, and is SIM unlocked. I also haven't researched how to root yet, so if someone could link me to the root and custom recovery thread got 2.3.5 that would be great. He leaves next week, so I need to knock this out.
Girlfriend speaks Russian, so she can help me navigate the phone once the locale is switched. Thanks!

It can not be a "new" phone.... They have been shipping with 2.3.6 since Jan. This is most likely a (b) stock phone if it is still on 2.3.5, that or you bought it used, and the person restored the 2.3.5 fxz to it.... Either that or it has been sitting in a box for a VERY long time.
Please update it to 2.3.6 from the OTA, before you do ANYTHING to it. You can still root 2.3.6. There are a TON of wireless and data updates as well as battery management updates in 2.3.6
Here are two very good threads to look at:

There are not any "Russian" locale ROMs on here at the moment, sorry.
Sorry this came from a friend at AT&T. It's new, screen cling, sealed the whole bit and 2.3.5. Unique scenario I know.
I thought I read some where that there was some work on a Russian locale. Maybe it was an experimental build and the project never got finished. Thought I'd at least check.
So recommendation is to OTA update, then root huh?
Thanks for all the feedback!

Here is a deodexed Russian language pack that worked for me when I was on VictoryROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26120276&postcount=12
But, as Jim said, update to 2.3.6 through Settings>About phone first. Then root. Then make a backup through recovery. Then you can try out roms..
Also, I'm pretty sure that there are multi-language roms on the horizon for the A2...
Also, there are no roms which will unlock the sim card (subsidy unlock). You will need to contact your carrier or find a service online..

Really appreciate all the helpful tips and suggestions. I'm pretty savvy when it comes to rooting, installing a recovery and installing ROMs, but language mods are new to me. So to be clear is this a Russian language CWM zip that will only work with Victory ROM?
Finally, could anyone give me an opinion on what is the current most stable, smooth and closest to CM7 style ROM on the A2? I know ICS is close to release, but I need to get my father in law set up now as he will be leaving before it is released
Happy to say that I've got a rooted Atrix 2 w/ a fully Russian locale!
Thanks all for the help!

lithium is probably the most stable. scv6 should get there but it is still new. there's not much like cm7.

There's several REALLY great roms out right now, SCv6 being I guess the latest. Lithium is very good, nice look and feel. Debloated, which is nice, and I've overclocked on that rom (though not all devices can handle this) to 1250MHz stable.
Bullet rim is sleek and snappy, though I miss the drop down toggles in the status bar.
SCv6 just released as well, very good rom there as well.
My two cents...
