[Q] Android.process.acore has stopped - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So there are multiple threads on this but I don't see one specific to the Verizon S3.
I recently tried to make the move to a new rom. I have tried both synergy and beans14. On both of them I run into this error and my contacts will not sync with google. I have tried to clear data in contacts and contacts storage with no success. I even tried do a factory reset back to a new rooted stock image using the guide found in section 6 of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
From there i did another factory reset, complete cache wipes. I think flashed a recovery and tried installing the Beans14 rom again, and the issue is STILL THERE. I tried Beans because there was some talk that backup assistant could be the root of the issue and i beans does not contain this app...
Any idea what the hell is going on? I
If i revert back to my backup before trying to flash these roms I do not have the issue.

If you go under accounts and sync settings are you sure that you have enabled your google account to automatically sync with your phone?

You are talking about on the phone itself right? Yes, everything syncs correctly except contacts. Contacts attempts to sync and then i get the acore error

Yes the phone itself, try going into settings->application manager->running application->contacts then select "clear cache option" if you see contacts storage under running application clear the cache for that as well. If that doesn't work backup your contacts first and then under the two applications I just mentioned select the "clear data" option. If that still doesn't fix your problems try running the fix permissions utility found in ROM manager. Let me know if you need more help

I have tried all this to no avail. I have also tried fixing permissions within recovery

This issue usually shows up when there is an issue with your contacts. Do you have any apps that can affect your contacts? Mr. Number is one that comes to mind that when it is restored to the phone, can cause the error to show.
You can try to back up your contacts to the sd card. Delete your contacts from the phone, and confirm delete from Google. Then after a wipe, if it tries, do not restore from Google, import from the sd card. Before restoring apps, make sure you don't see the error anymore when opening the contact list. Then restore apps. If it happens again, pay special attention to what apps were restored to find any potential trouble makers.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I tried to see if this would be an issue with CleanROM as well. Something went terribly wrong flashing that, and now i have a hard bricked phone. So it will be some days before I can even see if this works...

[Q] android.process.acore force close?

hello all,
did a search through this forum didn't see any posts regarding the subject. I was running GummyCharged FE 1.9 and was getting process.acore force close messages more often than I cared for. did not have that issue with GummyCharged FE 1.8.x releases. I think it may have something to do with my contacts though not sure. can anybody shed some light on this?
U may have to reflash. Its happened to me on numerous roms, and a reflash usually fixes the issue. I know its something u might not wanna do, but I would just to get rid of the issue.

Agreed, at least that was the fix for the fassy. Havent had it yet on the Charge
Yea, its the only way really. I tried fixing permissions, that didnt work. A full wipe worked. Also, if u install a theme over another theme without wiping cache and dalvik cache, u will get TONS of fc's. Happened to me. But it was an experiment lol.

What if I've done multiple reflashes and wiped data, cache, and dalvik before flashing? Any other ideas?
Thanks.
Flashed using CWM or using Odin?
1st an FYI - If you run the fix_permission from CWMR, you need to check the log afterward. It has been broke (wrong path...cannot find packages.xml ) until the 08/07 version (which was only released as part of a few kernel packages). Even then, it seems people were getting mixed results (I haven't tried the newly released version yet).
I don't know if the script will help you though. If I remember correctly (I came from the Defy world), it had something to do with bad application cache (different from system cache and dalvik-cache). First question is, when you did a wipe/reinstall, did you restore any application's settings (e.g. My Backup, the Verizon's Backup Sync, Titanium Backup, Android Restore, etc.)? It would also help explain why a wipe/reinstall wouldn't help.
Also, purely a side note...if you wipe /data, then /data/dalvik-cache (along with everything else in /data) is gone too. Wiping both doesn't do anything (or if it does...then you have an even bigger problem in the /data didn't get wiped properly and should really look into that).

Got to agree with this. Most likely a data restore problem through titanium backup or a program similar. If not, then many people would have the same problem, not just you.
Let us know your restore process... like what do you go through when you redo your phone.
What can I do?
I've performed numerous wipe/reflash of system/device/cache/dalvik cache, and I still receive this error....
It's driving me mad... anything I can do to rid myself of this blasted error once and for all?
It's followed me through Gummy Charged 1.0, 1.5 and now 2.0.
So I've turned off contact syncing with all my accounts and this seems to have fixed the issue. Anyone know if I can permamently fix this? I'd really like to have contact syncing.

That error is usually from bad system data. Wipe data/ factory reset. Don't restore system data.
Backup your texts if they are important to you with SMS backup

I have completely wiped several times and I still get the error. Cache, Data System Wipe, Dalvik Cache, and voltage settings. I only get the error when syncing contacts.
I do full wipe each time a new version of Gummy is released. I also no longer restore Data from apparel using a tool like Titanium nor Mybackup. This has happened on a number of ROMs

The force closes may be a precursor of worse things to come. That has been the case with me. I usually go all the way back to bone stock when I have persistent force closen rebooting, or freezing issues. My last crash in Gummy 2 FE was enough. I ended up soft bricking to the point that it would not even power up. I was fortunate that I was able to get into download mode and go to stock (after a couple of attempts)
Have you tried going back to stock yet?
No not yet, Im hoping to avoid that. My phone runs perfectly with contact syncing off.
For the time being I just download my google contacts into a csv and import that file manually.

I know I'm a year and a half late to the game here, but I was having this problem on my G Tablet with TNT Lite, and after doing a bunch of hunting, I found a fix that worked that (theoretically) should work with other devices. The first part is really easy, but might not to the trick. The second part isn't much tougher, and put everything back as good as new with no recurrences.
This issue is linked to your contacts. If you go into Settings>Applications>System Applications>Contacts Sync Adapter and press Clear Data, this error usually goes away. If this doesn't work, try clearing the data on Settings>Applications>System Applications>Contacts or Settings>Applications>System Applications>Contacts Storage.
Still no luck?
Open Root Explorer. Go to the following folder: /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/
*Note* this is not the data folder in sdcard, but the data folder in root (/).
See if there is a “.db-journal” file in the folder. If there is, just delete the databases folder in /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts and reboot.
The contacts database will be rebuilt and re-synced, and the error message will stop popping up.
This solution worked for me TWICE with two different ROMS so I suggest you try it out:
Go to Settings –> Applications –> Manage Applications –> All (button on the top that lets you see all applications) –> scroll down to “Contacts Storage” –> Click on “Clear Data”.
Voila, problem solved I hope this still helps people since I dont think the owner of the thread has this problem still.

[Q] How do I debug an Android Sync Issue? "Internet Sync"

Under Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> "account" -> "Sync Internet"
I'm getting "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly."
On my primary Google account and not my secondary accounts.
I've tried just the single account too, and still the same issue. This seems to be happening from the last 2 versions of Clean Rom.
I did wipe data every time.
Are there logs anywhere to give me a clue?
I really don't want to go back to a stock rom to test now and risk loosing root, etc.. but it was working from stock to the first Clean Rom, then upgrading to the second clean rom. The apps I downloaded did install after setup even after the wipe and rom install.
Thanks.
I have the same issue and would like to know as well
I'm also experiencing this issue. Hopefully someone knows how to fix it :/

You might have already done this ... but just to confirm ... what partitions did you wipe before you installed CleanRom ?
From CWM, I used the "Clear Cache" then followed with "Wipe Data/Rest".
I believe I've tried before and after ROM installation, but am not 100% currently. I do not believe that should make difference, since I do not believe Clean Rom writes to the data partition.
Since I don't know where the logs are, I'll try to do USB Tether and run Wireshark on the RDNIS interface later on today to see if I can capture any info. Hopefully it is not encrypted.
Thanks.

Try wiping all the partitions in the "WIPE" section in CWM (including system , except SD-CARD ) and also under advanced " WIPE DAlvik Cache" and then install cleanROm.
I am on v2.3 and I do not have that issue.
it really is a benign error.
I get it on ALL my ICS devices, regardless of rom/config/wipe/etc. its a google issue, not inherent to this device specifically.
Sort of. Unfortunately I did this see work on the earlier Clean ROM upgrades, and I've been spoiled.
When it worked, after I've flashed the new rom, it will automatically reinstall all the Apps I've downloaded from the App store. All my wifi SSIDs will be restored.
Yes it isn't critical, but a nice feature.

In CMW On the First Menu I,
Wiped data/factory reset
Wiped cache partition
Next in Advance
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Didn't see any other wipes.
Installed, and still the same problem.
Since I'm reset right now, is there any safe way to install stock to make sure that internet sync does work with a stock rom?
I image in need to hex edit the current version to a 1.0.0.0 and then install say the 1.7.3 RUU
Root then unlock again.

reinstalling appstore apps and wifi ssids doesnt fall under the internet sync. those are settings elsewhere in your menu. that feature is located under PRIVACY/BACKUP & RESTORE

Thanks. I checked there, and all of that is enabled. Must be something else then that is causing everything to be not restored.

I have had the same problem on my sensation with all ics roms i have used. sync internet always has the problem. you can remove the account and start again but I noticed that the sync internet will only work when you first log back into your google account then it will "experience problems" again. On my sensation it seems that "reset Chrome so that it was not "encrypt all data" and instead is now "encrypt password" is what repaired my "internet sync" problem.

[Q] Multiple "Unfortunately XXXX has stopped" issues

Hi there! I'm running a 'vanila' ICS 4.0.4 Nexus S. After the last reboot i'm having multiple pop-ups about applications that were forced to stop. Literally all system apps (Contacts, Messaging, Market etc), Google apps were forced to close. Phone doesn't rings and so on.
Most sad fact is that i can't even manage to install any program for backing up the phone and make a factory reset.
What can I do now?

try this first: go to cwm, choose fix permissions, and see if it works. if not, you can do this: do a nandroid backup with cwm, then, factory reset everything. cache, data EVERYTHING. install any rom of your choice, then, download the titanium backup app, and you can extract app and data from the nandroid backup using titanium. never tested this my self since i backup everything before flashing and clear all data, so app crashes.
hope this helps and please hit the thanks button of you find this helpful!

Oh, I see. You must have installed the update from 2.3 without wiping. Or something like that. Based on my knowledge, the best things you can do are:
1. Wipe/factory reset then reboot.
Or
Root your phone. Which wipes everything including the SD card partition. You can back up the SD card easy. I suggest the latter. So you can flash custom recovery images and do lots more than 'clean' ICS. One more thing, unrooted and unmodified is technically called stock. You will see this word a lot of times. Hope this helps.

ok guys, thanks for the help. but i'm thinking of the other way around
can i copy stock ICS 4.0.4 fw file on to internal storage and try to update the phone from HBOOT menu (the one called up with holding 'volume up' key)?
the thing is i have some info on the phone such as sms that i'd like to keep
or perhaps copy whole 'content' of the storage to my pc and move sms base or whatever back after factory reset?
is there a way to access internal storage while in HBOOT menu, cos in the loaded up state i can't copy fw file due to crashing system apps?

I suspect the SMS are stored in the system partition... Google it. If it is, again, you need root to access those files.

[Q] How can I restore after booting into recovery? All contacts, apps, sms lost

Hello,
I booted into recovery using the Down Volume and Power button. It seems to have restored the interface to factory default, although all my pics on the phone and SD card are there.
I cant find any contacts,SMS or previous apps. The app files are on the device. I can see them from my PC, but they are not installed.
After booting into recovery mode I just returned there a couple times. Finally I was able to boot normally, but into a fresh UI.
How can I restore or get back my (wife's) contacts and SMS's? I think that they should be there on the phone still. They were not backed up.
Thanks.

Is the phone rooted? Are you using clockwork mod recovery? Contacts are usually backed up with a google/gmail account. Go into her settings>sync settings and hopefully her gmail account is there. If it is, just click on it and her contacts should restore. You can also backup your apps through the gmail account as well. I believe the playstore has an option to automatically update via wifi, try looking in there for options about that. If her contacts were not backed up via gmail, then they are probably lost. I'm going to assume that you do not have a nandroid backup on the device via CWM that you could roll back to?

Thanks for your reply. No, it is not rooted. No CWM (yet). It seems there is no backup of the contacts because syncing was off. I used the phone first and then passed it to my wife, so she did not want all my contacts, she just managed contacts manually. That is why syncing was off. I kept my google account on the phone to manage apps.
I do not have a Nandoid backup. I looked at Helium, but it does not seem to work on Android 2.2.2. How would you recommend I back up the device to prepare for a custom ROM like CM7.2?
I am more worried about her manually added contacts and SMS's.
I did not install anything like CWM yet, just booted into recovery mode. Then the phone started asking me questions like in the initiall setup ei "Add a Google Account"
Is there a way that I can extract the contacs and SMS's from a directory on the phone. (Most of her data and directories seem to be there when viewed from a PC as USB storage).
Why would this happen from a simple reboot into recovery mode? Did I hold the Volume Down and power too long?
Thanks,

To be honest I do not know if there is way to extract the lost contact information. I am only knowledgeable about recovery protocols with a rooted device utilizing a custom recovery software such as cmw. I have never entered recovery prior to flashing cwm. There are plenty of guides in the stickies that show how to flash cwm via nvflash and guides on how to use it in order to flash a custom rom like cm7.2

Your contacts are unfortunately gone. With the stock recovery holding the buttons too long equals a data wipe which is where contacts and such are stored.
Been there, done that. I had a similar situation on my wife's phone and ended up creating a dummy Google account for her so contacts would be backed up automatically.
The noob says:
In the absence of a valid argument, 2+1=3 may be used to explain why the g2x did not get the ICS update!
I was hoping you would jump in here mansa! Thanks!

[Q] Whtsapp stopped working and now throwing unknown errors

Hi everyone,
I have been using my nexus 5 since 4-5 days now and everything was working fine till last night when whatsapp started giving me errors (unfortunately app has been closed). I uninstalled whatsapp and when I am trying to re install it, its now giving me error "unknown error code on application install -24"
I have tried installing via apk, playstore's website, cleared the cache and data of playstore app, rebooted phone but nothing works.
I am hesitant to root my nexus 5 as there is no official recovery available and people are having issues when rooting the device and I cannot afford to have an unstable phone. Hard reset is an option but I would like to avoid it if possible. I have read that if I delete the related whatsapp folder from data/data folder somehow then it will fix the issue. Is there any way I could access and delete that folder without being rooted or if someone has any other solution to my problem.
Any help is much appreciated

Same thing happened to me, Did you enable ART? Because that's what caused my errors (force closing). After switching back to Dalvik and trying to re-install, i was getting -24 error on the play store. I rebooted a few times and left it for a few hours. Tried again and it worked.
Whatsapp is i believe in-compatible with ART.

Okay, As for as i know, it did fix itself when i rebooted a few times and after a while it just worked.
Things i also tried that might have helped. Clear cache for the playstore which you tried. i would do this again after you switched back to Dalvik. and make sure whatsapp is uninstalled before switching to Dalvik. Once you switch back and have cleared cache from the playstore, try to re-install Whatsapp.
As for the backup, on your phone is a whatsapp folder that has a backup of your messages and photos etc. When you re-install whatsapp it'll pick that up and restore your stuff. There is no need to delete that folder.
I Hope that fixes it for you.

Right so far thats what i did, and thats exactly what happened to me. I just left it for a few hours and tried again it worked. Just give it a few hours and re-try / reboot and re-try.
It didnt work. I had to factory reset my phone eventually and wasted my evening doing all the restores, I wish Android had a seamless backup system something like that of Apple's. Helium/Titanium/mybackup, all of them have some kind of flaws

I am not rooted at the moment so TB wasnt really an option. Helium works fine only for apps and their data but I am looking for something that can restore my phone exactly how it was before the reset including home screens, settings etc without being rooted.

That what you are looking for would be a nandroid backup made in a custom recovery, that restores everything. But not possible without root.
Hi,
I have the same problem. Error -24 if I want to install Whatsapp from Google Play Store. Local installation after downloading the APK from Whatsapp gives also an error (app not installed).
Tried several times to delete the cache and setting of the Play Store app and the Google Framework. Followed by restarts of the phone. Until now I was NOT succesful.
As far as I read on other forums, the problem is, that in data/data/ already exists a Whatsapp-directory and therefore Whatsapp doesn't want to install. You could delete this directory, but only if you are rooted. I avoided this step until now, because it's a new phone with warranty and after rooting, all data ist wiped.
I also tried adb to delete this directory, but same effect. Because the phone is not rooted, I can't remove this directory by remote shell.
Is there no way to clean up such remains WITHOUT root?
Greets,
