[Q] android.process.acore force close? - Verizon Droid Charge

hello all,
did a search through this forum didn't see any posts regarding the subject. I was running GummyCharged FE 1.9 and was getting process.acore force close messages more often than I cared for. did not have that issue with GummyCharged FE 1.8.x releases. I think it may have something to do with my contacts though not sure. can anybody shed some light on this?

U may have to reflash. Its happened to me on numerous roms, and a reflash usually fixes the issue. I know its something u might not wanna do, but I would just to get rid of the issue.

Agreed, at least that was the fix for the fassy. Havent had it yet on the Charge

Yea, its the only way really. I tried fixing permissions, that didnt work. A full wipe worked. Also, if u install a theme over another theme without wiping cache and dalvik cache, u will get TONS of fc's. Happened to me. But it was an experiment lol.

What if I've done multiple reflashes and wiped data, cache, and dalvik before flashing? Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Flashed using CWM or using Odin?

1st an FYI - If you run the fix_permission from CWMR, you need to check the log afterward. It has been broke (wrong path...cannot find packages.xml ) until the 08/07 version (which was only released as part of a few kernel packages). Even then, it seems people were getting mixed results (I haven't tried the newly released version yet).
I don't know if the script will help you though. If I remember correctly (I came from the Defy world), it had something to do with bad application cache (different from system cache and dalvik-cache). First question is, when you did a wipe/reinstall, did you restore any application's settings (e.g. My Backup, the Verizon's Backup Sync, Titanium Backup, Android Restore, etc.)? It would also help explain why a wipe/reinstall wouldn't help.
Also, purely a side note...if you wipe /data, then /data/dalvik-cache (along with everything else in /data) is gone too. Wiping both doesn't do anything (or if it does...then you have an even bigger problem in the /data didn't get wiped properly and should really look into that).

Got to agree with this. Most likely a data restore problem through titanium backup or a program similar. If not, then many people would have the same problem, not just you.
Let us know your restore process... like what do you go through when you redo your phone.

What can I do?
I've performed numerous wipe/reflash of system/device/cache/dalvik cache, and I still receive this error....
It's driving me mad... anything I can do to rid myself of this blasted error once and for all?
It's followed me through Gummy Charged 1.0, 1.5 and now 2.0.

So I've turned off contact syncing with all my accounts and this seems to have fixed the issue. Anyone know if I can permamently fix this? I'd really like to have contact syncing.

That error is usually from bad system data. Wipe data/ factory reset. Don't restore system data.
Backup your texts if they are important to you with SMS backup

I have completely wiped several times and I still get the error. Cache, Data System Wipe, Dalvik Cache, and voltage settings. I only get the error when syncing contacts.
I do full wipe each time a new version of Gummy is released. I also no longer restore Data from apparel using a tool like Titanium nor Mybackup. This has happened on a number of ROMs

The force closes may be a precursor of worse things to come. That has been the case with me. I usually go all the way back to bone stock when I have persistent force closen rebooting, or freezing issues. My last crash in Gummy 2 FE was enough. I ended up soft bricking to the point that it would not even power up. I was fortunate that I was able to get into download mode and go to stock (after a couple of attempts)
Have you tried going back to stock yet?

No not yet, Im hoping to avoid that. My phone runs perfectly with contact syncing off.
For the time being I just download my google contacts into a csv and import that file manually.

I know I'm a year and a half late to the game here, but I was having this problem on my G Tablet with TNT Lite, and after doing a bunch of hunting, I found a fix that worked that (theoretically) should work with other devices. The first part is really easy, but might not to the trick. The second part isn't much tougher, and put everything back as good as new with no recurrences.
This issue is linked to your contacts. If you go into Settings>Applications>System Applications>Contacts Sync Adapter and press Clear Data, this error usually goes away. If this doesn't work, try clearing the data on Settings>Applications>System Applications>Contacts or Settings>Applications>System Applications>Contacts Storage.
Still no luck?
Open Root Explorer. Go to the following folder: /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/
*Note* this is not the data folder in sdcard, but the data folder in root (/).
See if there is a “.db-journal” file in the folder. If there is, just delete the databases folder in /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts and reboot.
The contacts database will be rebuilt and re-synced, and the error message will stop popping up.

This solution worked for me TWICE with two different ROMS so I suggest you try it out:
Go to Settings –> Applications –> Manage Applications –> All (button on the top that lets you see all applications) –> scroll down to “Contacts Storage” –> Click on “Clear Data”.
Voila, problem solved I hope this still helps people since I dont think the owner of the thread has this problem still.

[Q] Titanium backup question

Searched and didn't find this specific question or anything close - so I'll post
I've been flashing roms a lot now that I've got the hang of it, but I think I was creating a problem for myself with titanium backup, which I think I've maybe now solved, but I'm not absolutely sure.
On the last couple of nighlies of CM that I've flashed I've been getting unfixable FC of the phone app (rom manager fix permissions didn't fix it and neither did wiping dalvik cache).
So I flashed ns-collab and I like it, but today I got the same FC problems and had to restore my nandroid to get the phone working (I was at work).
NS-collab is meant to be stable so I was starting to think that it's not the roms that are at fault but something I'm doing, and I had a feeling it was what I do with TB. So here is exactly what I do when I flash a new rom.
____________________________
I have TB set to "backup all user apps". That's it - no system data.
Before flashing the rom (even if it's just an update) I clear data, cache, and dalvik cache.
When I've got the new rom flashed I do not allow google backup to restore my stuff as I want it done with TB.
In TB restore I run "Restore all apps with data". When I do this I select the app+data checkbox in TB before clicking "Run the batch operation".
___________________________
So, I had a look at the apps that get restored when I run TB "Restore all apps with data", and I noticed there is quite a lot of android stuff in there like the dialler and lots of other services that are part of the android os and don't need restored with TB really.
I've just flashed the updated version of ns-collab and I removed all these android services from the TB restore before I ran it so I'll see if any problems crop up now.
But my question is, was I causing the phone to be unstable by allowing these android services to be restored by TB. Remember I did not select to restore system data, but I am wondering if system data was restored anyway because there were android apps in the list and I had the app+data option selected.
Hope the above isn't confusing and any advice will be appreciated.
Lot of information but I say you found your problem yourself.
I have not had issues in the past restoring: bookmarks, contacts/calls storage, SMS/MMS/APN Dialer storage, SMS/MMS PREFS etc.
I do think you are giving yourself a little extra work than needed. It is not necessary to do a data wipe before updating a ROM, wiping cache and dalvik cache should be sufficient and a lot of people don't even do that. Of course a good clean wipe every now and then is good and gives you that warm fuzzy feeling inside like after you change the oil in your car
In general, I do not recommend a full batch restore like restore all apps and data. I find when restoring with TB it is a good time to clean up and only restore the apps your really want back on your phone. I also do a batch restore, de-select all and just go down the list and pick out the stuff I HAVE to have.

I think you are right about me giving myself work. Because I'm still a noob I'm still over cautious I think.
Maybe I'll try doing it your way. Sounds sensible.
Anybody know definitively whether me restoring everything via all apps and data would have contributed to the FCs I have been getting?

Did you try fixing permissions? I only use the batch for Backup all user apps.
Backing up bookmarks.. I use BookmarkSB and SMS (i know theres a app for that) but i use GVoice so i dont need it
I've never had a problem restoring user apps with data. Instead of restoring all, choose restore missing user apps with data or something like that.
Although, I've had problems restoring SMS and certain data for system apps on the NS. Can't figure out why it doesn't work but whatever.

I would suggest you install app2sd & move your application to the sd-card. Each time you flash a new rom just wipe the /cache, dalvik-cache and battery stats. This is all you would ever require.
Thanks for all the replies. Quite a few suggestions there which I will try out.
Didn't have any FC problems at all at work today, so I'm hoping my more cautious restore last night might have done the trick.

[Q] Can't download from the android market!

It's been about 5 days now that i can't download anything from the market, all of them hang on downloading and after a while says "download unsucessfull"
i've tried canceling and restarting the download, clearing the cache and data for the market, restarting the phone. Nothing helped.
i'm with cyanogen mod 6.1 and Nexus One
You could download apps without issues before? Well, make sure the memory of your tablet pc is enough for the downloaded apps. Actually I think you should always download and install apps on the memory card instead of the tablet itself.
Does it actually download a certain amount or does it not even get round to downloading? Have you got enough memory free for the apps you're trying to download?
Doesn't even start. I've got plenty of space
Try wiping dalvik cache and fixing app permissions.
what's that?

can you update that as well?
how if yes
Honestly, if you are on a Nexus one, switch over to CM7. They have a stable that was released in May and it works very well.
I have a Nexus One and love the new CM7.
Yes it would be nice to do that, the only thing that stops me is that he recommends to NOT use titanium backup after, cause it my mess it up.
So i'll have to spend half day with the phone :>
That's why i was looking for at least temporal fix of the market
The CM7 rom that I use (GSB3.5 on a Droid Eris) also recommends not using Titanium Backup, so I use MyBackup Root. I've switched back and forth from numerous other Sense, CM7, and AOSP roms and have never had a problem restoring apps and data. So if that's your only issue switching over to CM7, you might try that. Of course, you wanna do a NAND backup first so you can always have a backup.
As for your Market problem, I've had the same thing happen, and most of the time I just keep trying to download an app until it works. Though that's tedious and doesn't fix the issue. If clearing Market data doesn't work, then rebooting into your recovery and fixing permissions and clearing the Davlik cache has typically worked for me.
Good luck, and let us know what works.

Try going into Settings/Applications/Manage Apps, then Clear all the apps Data and Cache that have anything to do with Google!
Especially look for Market, Download, Checkin Services, and whatever else, then Reboot... If that Still Doesnt work Reflash the Rom or Restore a Nandroid Backup!

Restoring apps failing ERROR!!

Hi all,
When i reflash a new rom, all my apps which are supposed to just re download on their own get to a point and then about 30 + of them just fail.
Sometimes it says that there isn't enough space on the SD card, even though i've got plenty (16GB)
It's a real ballache to have to re download them one at a time and if i have to reboot then i lose the collection and that means i have to remember them and i always seem to forget some.
I only use titanium for a couple of apps because i don't see the point seeing as the android market usually does a good enough job of restoring my apps on it's own.
Rom's which this has happened with:
Coredroid
Insertcoin
P3D Sense
Android Revolution.
I always do a full wipe regardless of whether i'm instructed to or not, i format my card after every other flash of a rom and everything is usually tip top.
I'm about to re install a rom now and i'm betting that the same thing happens again.
Any help with this would be a great help.
Many thanks.

Your /cache partition is filling up while performing all the simultaneous downloads during the restore process. Android then aborts the download. You need to delete the orphaned apk files in that folder to clear the cache.
I think Google needs to improve the smarts in the restore process to prevent the cache from filling up
nvm Rumball beat me.

Nice one for that, but wouldn't i be clearing it by wiping the cache just before i flash the rom?
Would a second wipe help?
EDIT: Sonofabiiiatch it happened again, this is a pain in the ass man.
No, because its filling up because of your downloads, all the downloads at once have to store the files in the cache before installing it and with 30+ downloads it fills up quick, because of this i only ever use titanium to restore app.

Ah i see, but what if titanium restores apps which the market is already restoring? Won't you end up with two sets of everything?
Sounds silly but it's partly the reason why i don't use titanium so much.
EDIT: Shame on google for having such a **** part to their system.
just after you wipe , go to the market app and cancel all the downloads then dl titanium and restore, problem solved, and if your using the newer market, then it should just be a simple cancel all button on the top. Titanium also has the option of only restoring the apps you are missing.

[Q] Android.process.acore has stopped

So there are multiple threads on this but I don't see one specific to the Verizon S3.
I recently tried to make the move to a new rom. I have tried both synergy and beans14. On both of them I run into this error and my contacts will not sync with google. I have tried to clear data in contacts and contacts storage with no success. I even tried do a factory reset back to a new rooted stock image using the guide found in section 6 of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
From there i did another factory reset, complete cache wipes. I think flashed a recovery and tried installing the Beans14 rom again, and the issue is STILL THERE. I tried Beans because there was some talk that backup assistant could be the root of the issue and i beans does not contain this app...
Any idea what the hell is going on? I

This issue usually shows up when there is an issue with your contacts. Do you have any apps that can affect your contacts? Mr. Number is one that comes to mind that when it is restored to the phone, can cause the error to show.
You can try to back up your contacts to the sd card. Delete your contacts from the phone, and confirm delete from Google. Then after a wipe, if it tries, do not restore from Google, import from the sd card. Before restoring apps, make sure you don't see the error anymore when opening the contact list. Then restore apps. If it happens again, pay special attention to what apps were restored to find any potential trouble makers.
Hope this helps.

How to restore using Titanium Backup

I had recently rooted my phone and had installed Titanium backup using which I backed up all the apps+data.
Using Titanium backup I tried to remove a stock app provided by lg. During this process the phone rebooted twice and after that I saw that the phone had been reset to the factory settings.
I restored by following the below steps
Titanium backup > Backup/Restore > menu > batch > Restore > run Restore missing apps + all system data.
After restoring I observe that the phone is not being able to connect to any wifi, however previously when it was in factory reset it was being able to connect to wifi. Could anyone please help.

I think it was one of "Dhingana", "Bollywoodji" or "AG indian newspapers". I had restored after that but currently I do not find "Dhingana" among the installed apps.
It would be the best of you would factory reset again. If you have a custom recovery, then reboot into it(either from ROM Manager or with phone off holding Volume Down+Home+Power) and wipe data, cache etc. If you haven't got a custom recovery, then power your phone off and use the key combination above. It should work.
And don't use "restore system data" option in Titanium. Better restore individual apps in the "Backup/Restore" without going into the Batch mode.

Which setting/file are the system settings saved in? Things like the nav bar, notification bar, display, account syns, etc....? I know all about the pitfalls of restoring system data across different ROMs and for those cases, I just bite the bullet and redo all of those settings. But it seriously takes an hour or two to go in and redo all of those settings and if a RM is getting updated every couple of weeks, this just gets way too tedious for it to be worth it.
I know I can just do a system data + app and data restore for those cases and I do use that but there are times when I do not want every single thing restored and it would be nice to know which file all of those settings are saved in. I tried tinkering with just a few of those but I could not seem to find it.
Thank you in advance for any help, much appreciated.
And/or which file(s) cause the android.process.media to stop working and in general causes apps to crash? Also, does the Android ID cause/affect that? Thanks again.
[Edit] After much trial and error, I found the cause of the android.media.process and all apps in general crashing as a result problem(s). It was the file(s) Download Manager eng.prbassplayer and/or Downloads eng.prbassplayer inside Titanium Backup - Restore System Data selections. Just fyi for those wanting to know. I restored all other system and app data besides those and had no problems whatsoever with all Interface settings restored. I still did not figure out which file restored the Interface settings, if anyone could still shed some light on that.
This post relates to custom ROMs and restoring stuff with TB. Hoping someone can help.
I have been playing with Resurrection Remix for the last 7 months and have recently switched to Vanilla Rootbox.
With these two ROM's (and probably others) when an update is released a wipe/factory reset is required before installing the update. This causes a great amount of inconvenience as I have to manually re-setup all my shortcuts/widgets, email accounts, custom settings such as custom settings (toggles, etc...) ringtones and notifications sounds and so on.
All this takes ages and I'm getting a little tired of having to do it. There must be an easier way? Can this sort of stuff be restored with TB? I could be wrong but I don't think it can.
Many thanks.

I was under the impression that those settings caused problems if formats were needed and especially between different ROM's?
And yeah, tmarinos I definitely her you there. I have stopped using those extra customizations for my ROM, though I can usually restore my home screen and app drawer settings safely, thankfully.
The developers of my ROM (Slim Bean) have started that they want to include a feature to restores those settings between resets, so hopefully that type of feature becomes more integrated as time goes on. Hopefully.
On another note, my phone's TB is having issues. When it runs an automated scheduled backup task, it keeps saying "insufficient storage" but if I manually run that exact same task it runs just fine. Anyone have any idea what that's about?
