[Q] Looking for former Axiom users... curious to get an opinion. - HTC One S

I am still running the last version of Axiom, but at this point -- with the discussion of Key Lime Pie already starting, I really want to move up to Jelly Bean (notwithstanding that Axiom included a lot of its aesthetic features).
I wanted to ask those of you who also used Axiom before the devs defected and went over the the SG3 camp.... what ROM did you ultimately decide to change to.
It looks like the ViperRom is very similar in ways, as I see it uses the "Axiom Suite" allowing all those tweaks.... this would seem pretty good except, it is Sense still, and I don't think the HTC One S has received it OTA for JB. (if I am wrong about this, please let me know). Notwithstanding this OTA, we still would not have the upgraded Sense code, and I don't know if we can run Android 4.1 and an older version of Sense (the one with 4.0.4.
So, that is sort of my dilemma. I would like to see how Jelly Bean feels, so, additionally, I was considering the ParanoidANdroid ROM. But I am not really sure if it is even worth the hassle --
So I have a lot of hesitation, and am basically just trying to take a poll on Roms after having using Axiom since last May.
Thanks!!!

Trickdroid for T-Mobile seems to be comparable to axiom s but with support and updates. Not sure which to go to for s-less.

I went from Axiom to the unofficial AOKP Jelly, and I've been really happy with the upgrade. I do miss a few of the minor Sense things like FM radio, but the speed of AOKP is really like night and day.
I tried Viper for a few around when I was trying AOKP, and it's similar to Axiom, but no where near as fast as AOKP.

If the aosp roms could have the sense camera ported that would be a real treat for us but I'm aware that this cannot be done atleast not yet

Yes...for me Wi-Fi calling is imperative.
As far ad the camera..wasn't there a flashable mod which added most of the sense camera features?

Nope.
Not yet.
Maybe some of our devs already tried but didn't succeed.
i like ics with sense ^^
there is some work on going on in the DHD forums with regards to this which means we should have it soon, but to be honest i think all that work will be a bit of a waste with the announcement of sense 4.0 next month. Just sit tight and be patient and we'll get something good
The main reason is, that the Sensation has a qHD screen.
If we port the ROM, resizing and optimization has to be done.
Whereas now, luckily for us, HTC have announced plans to upgrade the XL which has the same screen as us.
So we just need to wait for a leaked XL ROM, and devs will port it.
It will be muh easier that way, rather than having to resize and optimize the original Sensation ROM.

That's right. And that's the reason that the best ROMs for the DS (like Endymion) are based on official Sensation XL (Runnymede) releases instead of the Pyramid (Sensation qHD) - they just fit better overall! So just wait a bit and you'll have a very very sweet tooth munching on ICS with a Sense 4 icing!!

Love that concept
Pretty soon i think Endymion will evolve to ICS + Sense based of the XL
Or maybe Lowveld might give a different approach and name it as a new ROM

I personally don't think Endymion should ever be taken off the grid, and turned into an ICS based ROM. It should continue as a Sense 3.5 GB ROM as it has always been. To morph it into an ICS based Sense 4 ROM would be the same as having developed Hyperion into a Sense 3.5 ROM, and doing away with the original Hyperion (which fortunately, did not happen!)
So I think Hyperion and Endymion should remain as proud flag-bearers of what GB with Sense was meant to be... and the ICS version should be inducted as a new member into the elite family of Lowveld branded ROMs.
Lowveld, i know you're reading this...so please do consider keeping Endymion alive as is... and do not merge it with the ICS branch that you will eventually develop - something that we all know is inevitable. (I mean that is at least more realistic than expecting you to release Android 5.0, right?! )
P.S. : Oly, I just realised that we've hijacked this thread and turned it into an Endy thread! +1 for Viral marketing!!

Hehe
I suppose...
All devs have different approaches to their ROMs...
RCteam and Virtuous focus on a specific device port
E.g - unity = sensation, affinity = XL
And they are usually based on the latest build available .
So if the XL got ICS, Affinity will be updated to ICS.
I thought lowveld was having the same approach:
Hyperion = Desire S, Endymion = XL.
So if we did officialy get ICS, Hyperion will be updated to ICS etc.
So I assumed that Endymion will soon be based on XL's ICS
Oh well, I guess all devs have their own approach
Who cares anyway, so long we get to taste some sweet ICS, and Sense 4.0 icing

Just read it.
Also in response to Oly, I don't connect ROM names with particular devices. Hyperion is Hyperion, Endy is Endy, not a "XL current port". I even stopped rebasing Endy on the latest XL builds as I don't think they have anything to offer.
So, no, Endy wil not "go ICS". It's also not going away, while I don't go away. I don't stop supporting anything while there are users, period. I'm becoming a little stretched, currently maintaining 3 ROMs and being a team of 1. But fortunately the community tends to help itself, and lots of questions get answered without my direct intervention (thanks Enigmaamit and all of you! ).
If I ever develop something over ICS, and that's a big IF, it will be a different ROM. And, as always, I will only release it if it is consistent, bugfree, and adds something to the community (Remember the no-go on the Bliss port?).
Cheers

Thanks for clarifying lowveld
I just made a wild assumption
Either way, it doesn't really affect us.
I do hope that porting the XL ICS will be an easy job, with no bugs - like Endymion
Yeah, its strange how to Bliss (bassed on virtually the same specs as Desire S) had some nasty incompatible radio stack thingy which broke Bluetooth
Hopefully ICS doesn't change too much!
It would be nice to see what you could do with a future ICS base though
Just wondering though, will that mean a new kernel would be required? So unity9 base won't be compatable for future ICS Sense?

AOSP Questions - Had enough of this Sense Joke

All,
I've always had google (nexus devices) and decided to give the HTC One S a go. Honestly, this sense is a bad joke/torture device. Between the linkifyapp, multi-tasking, sense specific apps(calendar, dialer, sms etc) which are just abominations, i've had ENOUGH. These mods are done with absolutely no thought to usability or seamlessness.
Time to try AOSP build, or then return this phone and unfortunately get a plasticy SGSIII with easily available AOSP.
/rant
A few questions:
1) Which AOSP rom would you recommend I run (which one is closest to nexus builds)
a) CM9
b)evervolv
c)AOKP
d)other
2) What are major issues to consider when going to an AOSP rom on this phone?
a) Is there a way to get wifi calling on these roms
b) Does the crap VOIP pop go away on these roms?
3) Are there any issues in getting back to stock incase I need to return?
4) How is the camera compared to the stock cam app (only awesome appon this phone)?
Let me know, i'm going to do this today
Best,
I have a lot of the same questions for this phone. I really think the only option worth using will be CM9 if and when there is an official build for the HOS. Totally agree with the camera app. The thing that makes me nervous with CM9 is losing the excellent camera functionality. Its for that reason that I'm still stock and waiting. The VOIP popping sound is annoying, although I'm glad I'm not the only one with the issue. I just want to go back to a clean AOSP based ROM, but from what I've seen there really isnt a good option unless you want to try an Alpha of CM9.
i love the stock HTC one S its brill.

1) I would not recommend any of them until there are stable releases available. If I were going to install any of them, I'd choose CM9.
2) List of non-working features are listed in the OP of the CM9 thread. Not sure if the popping sound has been fixed in AOSP.
3) Pretty sure you would use the same method as any other ROM... RUU, relock bottloader, etc.
4) No idea, but would I would be surprised if the stock camera app could not be loaded onto AOSP.

I've read so many times that extracting the stock Sense camera app is going to be a nightmare since it's so deeply rooted into the whole of Sense. So most likely, it's going to be a trade-off situation.
The Ville has official AOKP so that would be your best bet.
I agree with you. I have always disliked Sense since HTC first released it.
1) All are pretty close to stock ICS. CM9 is probably the closest. I prefer AOKP as it has more tweaks, IMO.
2) Wifi calling as of right now is a no-go. I don't know if someone is working on it, and I don't care as I do not use it. One gripe of switching to AOSP is the camera, more info below.
3) In a custom recovery, make a backup of your stock ROM (sense). If you **** anything up you can always go back to exactly what you had when you made the backup.
4) AOSP camera is **** compared to Sense. No burst shot, shutter has lag, video barely works, and no panorama. There is no HDR mode as well, which I really like on the stock. The camera is the BIGGEST turn down when switching to Sense. It is why I am still on Sense.
CSP, what Aokp rom are you talking about? Pm me a link or something. Want to look into it.

Please stop with the bull****!
CM9 is very stable on the One S. Great battery life and smooth. Camera and camcorder working great and even takes pics while filming.(idk wtf guy above is saying about camera)
AOKP is basically CM9 but with more tweaks and at the moment not as stable as CM due to a few bugs but overall good enough for daily driver.
Every AOSP custom rom is basically CM9 so if you want stock like the OP says about his Nexus S...CM9 only way to go!

+1. Im on T-Mobile, loved the specs on the HOS even over the SGSIII. Disliked Sense but disliked touchwiz even more. Decided to go with the best house in a bad neighborhood in terms of bloated android overlays. I honestly do not see why manufacturers feel the need to "improve" upon Android. Its perfect in its unadulterated state. One man's opinion of course. The HOS would absolutely fly on 4.1 with no extra BS on top of it.
My Experience
I have owned Htc devices since the G1 I got the 1S for my girl when the upgrade was available I had to send the 1S back for replacement due to data issues (T-mobile) They sent me another one with an older baseband hell I rooted it put a stock sense Rom on it and told the girl here you go it works great and is fast camera is awesome I replaced my Sensation with the play store Gnex all I can say is HOLY **** what a piece this is IMHO it blows away any of the devices I have previosly owned including the 1S my girl has now plus I don't need to wait on HTC or T-mobile to provide an outdated update for the device I currently am running JB V.1 pre release and its badd azz I run aokp aosp both and they just fly I think the camera is fine and getting updates from google is much better than going thru the carriers at 349.95 right now thats a deal ----so long sense/Htc I had all the fun I could stand

Picking a Rom is a personal thing .what's best for me might not be best for your needs.I highly highly recommend you try out SEVERAL different roms for yourself and then make your choice for your daily Rom! That's the fun part! I've probably tried almost all the ics roms available! See what suits you're needs and style! We are lucky to have such wonderful developers to give us many different choices! So instead of asking what's best in others opinions, see what's best in YOUR opinion! Each Rom has a area that tells you what's working and what isn't, they are very up front about that so read that area, decide what you want, try out SEVERAL different ones then make your OWN choice! For me I really like the lightning Rom. However it might not be for you! So have fun and experiment with different things and form your own opinion. Best wishes and I genuinely hope this helps you out. Happy flashing!

I'm using CM10 at the moment but my opinion WILL differ from almost everyone else's.
Yes, but not everyone has the time to try each and every ROM that comes along. So thanks for your suggestions guys!
Were only saying to give each Rom a shot and form your own opinion. Do it little by liitle if you don't have a lot of time but it is always best to try for yourself and form your own opnion...

the best ROM is the one that comes when you buy your phone, STOCK. But when you want something customized for your needs, you gotta try those available ROM. for me so far, i have Insert Coin for sense 4 in my phone always also the viper 1.1.0 but I'm still testing other ROM. What counts for when it comes to ROM is performance first then the looks. :good:
Enjoy Hunting :highfive:
I'd agree with trying the custom ROMs and work out what fits best. Like a try before you buy session.
REMEMBER, take Nandroid backups at every opportunity so you can revert to a previous ROM easily. That's probably the most important aspect.
Yep, take a few for a spin! I went from awesome Virtuous to awesome Lightning! Happy Flashing!
Communisation
Lighting
I agree there are just too many ROMS to try them all. But there are also way too many threads of this sort. For all those wondering which ROMS are good here are my recommendations-
ARHD or InsertCoin if you want closest to stock Sense 3.6 with preference to ARHD cos its updated more.
Elegancia Sense 3.6 if you want a tweaked version. I adore this ROM. Themed version available.
ViperS ROM if you want an extremely flexible Sense 4.0 experience. Elegancia 4.0 if you want a themed Sense 4.
OpenSensation for AOSP.
BerserkMode if you want Sense parts with AOSP speed and smoothness. It's probably better than Virtuous Inquisition now thanks to updates and improvements.
MIUI if that's your taste. There are about 3 or 4 threads. I'm personally waiting for the AOSP version update.
New Roms that may be worth a try- Lightning, TRAD Sensation (both Sense 4)
ROMS that you absolutely HAVE to cultivate to your own taste (for purists)- the hyper roms. props to Splder for carrying on Kristofs work.
Others- CM10 by Bruce if you're adventurous and don't mind temporarily sactificing your camera.
Personally I'd start with (Elegancia 3.6 Stock/themed is upto you) its amazing.. ViperS and BerserkMode of of course CM9. After that you have a pretty decent experience by which to judge other Roms. Happy Flashing! Hope this helped you and any others with the same question.

Paranoid Android! Hands down!
The ability to put your HTC into tablet mode is wonderful. As is the ability to custom choose the DPI for each individual app on your phone. After using Gmail in tablet mode I never want to go back to the preschool-like interface Gmail uses by default for phones. And with all the themes available for CyanogenMod you can REALLY customize the look and feel of every visual aspect of your phone's UI. I held out for a LONG time, I thought Sense was "pretty" and the way to go. But I've found ROMS based on AOSP/AOKP/CM run circles around Sense performance wise. Sense is a HOG for resources plan and simple. Install Apex launcher in Paranoid Android and it's quite close to perfect. Fast, themeable, visually pleasing, and the ability to take advantage of the fact your Sensation has an HD display.
That said, if you're still a sense holdout, the Viper ROM wipes the table with pretty much all other Sense based ROMS (though Daemon looks a bit promising).
For a STABLE ICS AOKP ROM, I like the EyeCandy ROM. (I boot into this restore when I need to use the camera as camera isn't functioning in JellyBean yet)
*edit*
Unlike a lot of other posters, I pretty much have tried EVERY ROM available for the Sensation. I have a tech addiction!
After a while the Sense 4.0 ROMS all start looking the same, except for the truly innovate ones that stand out from the pack like Viper, Daemon, Lightning, and RMS Blue Sense.
I tried ARHD, but once I found there were Sense 4.0 ROMS for my Sensation, I never looked back, never bothered trying another 3.6 ROM/ Sense 3.6 just seemed outdated to me at that point.
I prefer AOKP-based ROMS to CM as AOKP lets you tweak a heck of a lot more of the UI as well as system performance tweaks.
And I hate MIUI with a passion. Stay far far away from MIUI unless you really enjoy giving yourself a headache.

You can look in the change logs of the roms and they will tell you EXACTLY what is working and what's not.the developers are very open about that. Each Rom has a area what tells you EXACTLY what is working. So there are no surprises. Most roms have most everything working . They will tell you what's not working on page one. Around the change logs. Always look at that first then you will not have any surprises if something is not working. I really hope this helps you out. So if you find a Rom your interested in just read that area and it will clearly tell you what to expect. Best wishes.

Currently 1.9.5a .. I've used 1.92 as well as 1.4 in the past.
I know a lot of people will probably say arhd because it has been the most popular rom. However, my Sensation kept crashing/randomly turning off with it. The only rom that hasn't caused me too many problems is InsertCoin and OrDroid. I have been using OrDroid for several months now and couldn't be happier. I will probably stick to OrDroid for a while.

The forgotten HTC One XL

Maybe I'm alone in this but it seems like this phone is a dead end now up to this point. We still have absolutely no word from AT&T or HTC about an update to Jelly Bean.....Well mostly AT&T because HTC has released a JB update to international ONE X.
The CM10 isn't stable enough to be a daily driver due to lack of sources.
It sucks we have great developers trying to give us something big from something small.
Now that the new ONE X is out on AT&T, I doubt they give a rats ass about the Previous version, we may well NEVER get Jelly Bean.
I've been using CM10 since I rooted. I have very few issues with it.

A dead end? We've got some pretty good roms and kernels here, and active development. Maybe not as much as other forums, or as much as some would like, but plenty of people are happy about it.
JB is coming. The One XL has always lagged a couple of months behind the One X in releases, and that's continuing. But it will be out. And, who cares about AT&T? All we need is one carrier pushing it out and the devs can work from there.

It's been good when I was using it. But losing cellular reception constantly while using GPS was the tipping point for me to go back to a Sense ROM. Plenty of people had/have this issue and I don't see in changelogs that it's been resolved.
If it helps the Htc One XL has come to the UK with 32gb of storage, Maybe this will kickstart some more development...

CM10 is far from bad. Now something you wouldn't have liked was CM7 on my old GS2. No matter what I did with it, it never worked right. Only problem I have had with any of the AOSP is the music playing. Stuff that is far from a big deal..
Also, who cares about when AT&T is going to release an update. Have you taken a look at the dev sections lately? There is only 1 active rom that is based on AT&T released software(not knocking the rom itself in anyway, it was pretty good). Once one of the international variants get theirs, we'll have it.
Dead ?????

Cm10 11/30 is a pretty good build
I feel like this is just complaining and pointless. But the same thing happened to the desire HD forum... Until! A dev turned everything around. Stop being impatient and wait.
[Edit]
Also HTC said this was already going to get jellybean so pointless complaint. Just wait

I put cm10 stable release and gave it to my wife. No complaints so far. I'm using a nexus 4 and this bad boy is no slouch compared to the nexus.
The development was slow at some point when the 2.20 did not have root, not anymore.
The CM stable release is as stable as it gets. Battery is killer with default kernel.

No. Just no. I use CM10 everyday.
I'm not new to modding and current run Cleanrom 5.1 with BeastMod kernel.
On CM10, I constantly lost service when using GPS. This is a well known issue that people were having (I was on the "stable" version).
I like the phone and It's actually doing well on the CleanRom............ The point of this thread was the lack of AT&T getting an update to this device.....and now that they released a new one, I'm pretty sure this one is forgotten.
I think if you're subsidizing phones and putting people in 2 year contracts, you should be obligated to provide updates for at least those two years, just my 2 cents.... but greedy carriers will be greedy carriers.

New HTC One M8 user

I'm currently still using my Galaxy S3 with Verizon. Since it's been a while that I had an HTC (OG Incredible) I wanted to get back. It was between this and the LG G3. I ordered this from SWAPPA and it comes rooted with s-off and the HK audio modification. Since there is an abundance of information I would prefer to just ask questions instead of reading all of the pages on the forum my main question is how does CyanogenMod and generally AOSP ROMs run on this phone? Should I just stick with CleanRom?
Thanks.

GPE Rom. Been running it for about a week now. No issues at all. Some are reporting camera lag, but I haven't noticed any.
CM is still on nightlies I believe, but it seems pretty stable from what everyone is posting.
If you want a closer to stock experience, stick with CleanRom. I had that from Day 1 and not one issue showed up.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look at that one. I'm also going to keep an eye on CM.
On AOSP you will loose your hk mod and any other sense features i.e. dual camera ect.

Can't argue with that, I've tried every rom available and keep coming back to Viper.
