New HTC One M8 user - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I'm currently still using my Galaxy S3 with Verizon. Since it's been a while that I had an HTC (OG Incredible) I wanted to get back. It was between this and the LG G3. I ordered this from SWAPPA and it comes rooted with s-off and the HK audio modification. Since there is an abundance of information I would prefer to just ask questions instead of reading all of the pages on the forum my main question is how does CyanogenMod and generally AOSP ROMs run on this phone? Should I just stick with CleanRom?
Thanks.

GPE Rom. Been running it for about a week now. No issues at all. Some are reporting camera lag, but I haven't noticed any.
CM is still on nightlies I believe, but it seems pretty stable from what everyone is posting.
If you want a closer to stock experience, stick with CleanRom. I had that from Day 1 and not one issue showed up.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look at that one. I'm also going to keep an eye on CM.

On AOSP you will loose your hk mod and any other sense features i.e. dual camera ect.

Can't argue with that, I've tried every rom available and keep coming back to Viper.

Need a good ICS rom

hey guys
As you see I am a nexus S owner, but a friend of mine got a brand new captivate .
and now he asked me to root and put a ICS rom on it..
I looked into the development section of captivate and I saw a couple of ICS roms.
I couldnt decide which one to put..
I am looking for a ICS rom (without touchwiz) that has stability, speed and good battery life.
and what are the recommended kernels?
Thank you so much
AOKP is definitely one of the better roms, most features, very stable, decent battery life. Comes with the glitch kernel which has the memory boost, and is very fast and smooth.

The only way to know is to try them all. Personally, I've tried CM9, Gummy, Dark Night, AOKP, and I would have to say my favorite is CM9 because of the feature integration and nightly updates. But it's really up to what you like the most. Each one is going to have slightly different features and different UI elements, and they may differ in performance and speed.
These threads aren't allowed, and will hopefully be locked soon. The reason why is that you see how you got answers of different ROMs, that is because it is a SUBJECTIVE matter, meaning only you/your friend can decide.
I'm trying to find an ICS rom / kernel setup with the best battery life without losing performance. Anyone have any tips for this?
battery live depends on YOU and YOUR APPS. and how much YOU keep touching the screen and looking at the ICS eyecandy.
this is true for ANY rom. kernel makes a minor difference on battery. but not as much as YOU do. the rom itself makes no difference in battery.
These threads are not permitted as they are only subjective oppinions, and when you ask get an aswer from a dev or team member of a rom.... guess which one they will recommend to you?? THEIRS. so you dont get any objective advice.
Try them yourself. read about them in their threads. see what other people like you have already said about the roms in their Dev thread or their Q&A thread. and decide for yourself.
try my new rom, SimplyAOKPV1.0. Its odexed=faster and based off of aokp b32. fresh from the oven!
Ty for all suggestions. I will download some and flash tomorrow.

Just a note: usually, you don't need to post the same question in both the Inspire 4G and Desire HD forums. The same people usually visit both.

ICS stock - Existz's aospX
GB with Sense 3.5 - ER3BUS XL
GB stock - Gingerbeast
aospX is fantastic. Very stable and very few minor bugs. Also, Existz is very attentive and answers many of the questions posted in the thread.

Before I switched phones, I tried a bunch and for me I stuck with Cyanogen Mod 7. That one just seemed to run smoothest for me.

It's probably a certain app which keeps locking it up. It might happen with any rom, unless he can figure out which app it is.

Most stable roms I've had:
AOSP ICS: AospX (currently using)
GB: CM 7.2
Sense 3.5: ER3BUS, Virtuous Affinity 2.05
If you want something different you should try MIUI 2.4.20 (GB)
sabsa prime version 8

I have only been using this for a day but so far it is awesome. I have never had a rom with battery life that is this good. I left my phone off the charger last night and it only lost 3% in about 9 hours. I have not found any problems except that when I restart the phone you need to let it completely restart or it will reboot automatically. It is an ics from with sense 4.1. It makes my phone feel more up to date. If I run into any problems I will let you know. If you are interested look for sabsa prime 8.0. [Q] How to get contants birthdays to show up in local calander WITHOUT syncing

I recently updated to CM10 from a superlight stock rom. I am getting to know JB and one issue I am having is that contacts birthdays will not show up in calender.
I refuse to sync with google and just can't get it to work locally. it worked on the old rom without sycning.
Does anyone know how to fix/workaround this?
Ideally I want a completely local calender/contacts app. I have no need at all to sync anything to google/cloud/internet and refuse to do so.
P.s. While I am posting a thread anyways, does anyone know of a good alternative to the stock samsung/ATT dialer/contacts/phone. I HATE the CM10 apps with a passion and best I have found so far is rocket dialer/DWcontacts and both fall short of the stock apps.
Thanks for any help.

I don't think you can on CM. The only way is to sync. I am not a 100% sure though.
If you desperately want this, install stock based ROM like embryo

I considered a stock based rom but prefer most features of CM over it. Only real catch points are the above mentioned dialer/phone/contacts and that the birthdays don't show up in the calender.
I much prefer some of the security features of CM such as being able to run PDroid. Along with being able to ditch ALL the bloat and build the rom to my specs.
Maybe I should see if this even works in the stock based rom, if not then it is a moot point anyways.

Interesting, I skipped over embryo before due to it being MASSIVE (think it was 650mb) and figured it had to be nothing but full bloat.
Why is it so large? I much prefer lightweight roms that are simple/direct over a bloated rom with tons of things I will never use. Can you cut the size down post install?
Right now I am on CM10 superlight and love the fast boost/lightweight of it.

I see, I will have to give it a shot when I get some time.
Anyone know what the "actual rom" size is with the bloat removed?
Been looking into embryo and got to say it looks interesting. This does bring up another question I have never been able to find a clear cut answer to (messing with my phone is just an as needed hobby of mine).
What exactly can CM do that a stock rom can't? Besides the super compact/clutter free ness of it, what other reasons are there to go with CM over something like embryo from a purely technical standpoint? I could not find a clear cut answer to this when searching, so gave up and decided that CM must be better so gonna make it work.

If that is really it, I actually much prefer the touchwiz interface personally. :good:
My last superlight stock rom severed me very well. Biggest reason I wanted to switch over was for the PDriod/other security options.

Best, most stable rom?

Hi im running cm11 at the moment, in the past ive tried viper, beanstalk amd a few others, used them all for long periods of time (months) and none are what i am wanting as they all have problems.... Now what im looking for does not have to be feature heavy or the most customisable or even the slimmest rom, i dont even care if its jb or kk. All i want is a rom i can use for the last few months of my phone contract were i get no bootloops, random reeboots or any niggling bugs, i just want something that works. I have not tried maximus hd yet but have been looking into it? thanks for any replys
i think maximus hd

Really? I was not aware, i apologise
Before I sold my One S and moved on, I used the most recent T-Mobile RUU (with it de-bloated with Rom Cleaner), and the stable version of CM 10 (not 10.1 or 10.2 or 10.3) for a non-sense break. Both were extremely stable, not a reboot ever. I always root and s-off my phones ... a little ocd I guess! Give it a try, even though they aren't the latest and greatest ... they work very well on the One S.
I vote maximus hd. Baked blackbean was pretty stable as well, just camera and music quality were not good, probably same as any aosp Rom on this phone.

We don't allow these kind of threads because it can be so easy for arguments to start due to people disagreeing. The best way to find out what the best stable ROM is is to test some out. It will obviously take a bit longer to find your answer but you may come across an ideal ROM which wasn't even suggested by any of the people posting their opinions

Recommended Roms

I know this question is really subjective. I'm coming from the Note II and have not been in this forum more than a couple of days so I'm not famililar with the developers and their work.
I'm just not sure what Rom to start with.
Speed/stability. Feature Customizations, You know, General grovieness
Stock.

Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
If you want customization, ViperROM is the way to go. It is fast and has so many options and settings it can almost be overwhelming if there were anymore things to explore in their tweaks app. Has some nice themes (although many are not fully compatible yet) as well. For a stock ROM with speed and removed bloatware, I recommend Skyfall. It has been the fastest for me as far as stock roms go. Bonestock is great as well, I just had awful battery life on it (which was my fault but was too lazy to diagnose so i crack flashed something else. Just try them all and see what you like best.
Stock. Everything works and you never have to wipe for an update.

Viper.
Stock with xposed seems to do the trick for me
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
I've flashed BoneStock and have been really happy with it honestly. I really only wanted the bloatware removed and it did a good job of that.
I haven't tried any others yet though. Stock is actually really, really nice. HTC did a fantastic job with Sense 6.0.
A second vote for Viper! This ROM has been fantastic. Performance is much improved over stock, battery consumption has been lower, and there are so much customization that can be done through Viper One's tweak configuration (including enabling Power Saver mode which Verizon took away, performing an "auto hide" of the navigation bar, adding custom themes and colors, etc.). The devs of this ROM are also VERY responsive. Be sure to make a nandroid back up using CWM or TWRP before flashing any custom ROM, so you have something to go back to if you are not happy.
Was thinking about grabbing this phone, but what about those of us coming from stock Nexus Android? I see people recommending stock, but then dont you have to deal with Sense and stuff? Or am I just missing something?

I've run the Stock Nexus, and LOVED IT. I also got used to Samsung's TouchWhiz, I personally like HTC's Sense. Much like ROMS, this is a personal choice. I'm sure, once I see a CM or something like that I will give it a try to check it out. Sense is not like it was a couple of years ago. It Flies. Check it out, see for your self.
