Hi everyone.
Last night I went to bed and as usual I check my Nexus S battery.
It indicated me very low battery, and turn it off.
So far, no problem, i thought, well there isn't enough battery to turn on the phone. I connected the cellphone to the wall charger and went to sleep.
Today i woke up and try it to turn it on, the screens just flashes and nothing happens.... Removed battery, try it again, the same.
Try 100 times that, and there was one time a Warning of Bootloader came up. Don't know what i did different thought, but now i can't get the same result.
Actually now the screen doesn't even flashes when i press the power button.
The battery seems to be charged, i tested with a LED. My wall charger is also working cause it's able to charge my old phone.
And now to get things even worse, as i bought it in asia, i don't have warranty, and the gran finale, Nexus S is not been sold in Brazil due to some regulatory issues, so Samsung said it they can't help me with an imported product.
The Cellphone is brand new, doesn't have not even ONE month of use.
It's not rotted, and it was in the latest android firm.
Does anyone have any idea what can i do????
The phone doesn't respond to anything .
Tnks a lot in advance.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!! SEE THE LAST THREAD. BR!

Is it showing full bars when you connect the charger and press the volume button?
dude, i think there is something wrong with our country. take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111761
i think you tried everything possible, can't see what else you could do. Looks like a hardware issue..
if i were you, i'd claim for warranty, even if you bought in hk, it has warranty, of course you will lose shipping cost, but, it's better than lose the phone! =o]
good luck!
GchildT: Nothing happens when i connect the charger to the cellphone.
Already tried the hard reset (volumn up + power button) nothing happens
thiagodark: Tell me about it, i read this thread ealier this morning, actually i send it a private message asking him if he solve his problem... samsung is really disappoint me.
The thing i found most said is that the phone is bran new! Not a month year old.
And i didn't do anything, not even rotted, dropped, anything!
PROBLEM SOOOOOOOOOOOLVED!!!
The problem was that there was a little tiny piece of plastic dirt in the usb male plug in the phone! And that piece was able to make a faulty contact with the charger, the phone battery was dead as hell.
Can you believe that?????
I almost sent my phone across the world in order to use the warranty.
Now I'm back with my cellphone up , happy as hell!
Tnks a lot, and remenber to always clean everything before use more drastic measures.

so, i've been researching this all night and i want to get a straightforward answer. is there any way i can root my S3 without using the USB port? the port is busted and doesn't detect anything being plugged in (i have 3 batteries and an external charger, since it won't charge)
basically, i'm coming across some posts from the S2 explaining that you could root that one by simply flashing some SU files etc in recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794
can any of this be done with the S3? i was looking into wireless ADB as well, but you def. need root for that, despite the fact i also found someone on the S2 forums who apparnetly had wireless ADB working without root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371326
i have no idea how he did it, because i def can't.
any thoughts? i'd love to root this thing and just keep it stock (just delete bloatware and make tweaks to stop the launcher redraw) and that's it..not even looking to throw custom roms on it yet.
Honestly I think you are SOL for the time being
well that's not good cmon con, i know you can figure something out lol

I was able to root by flashing an SU zip in CWM. However I was only able to flash CWM thanks to Casual. It wouldn't root me. But did let me install cWM. From there I booted into recovery and was rooted in seconds. With no USB though that makes things tricky. Not sure how you could get CWM on there then. I was able to root my Droid x purely using terminal emulator on the phone and pushing files from the SD card. But that was years ago and i think rooting is a bit different now since it looks like it gets symlinked.

Why don't you just get the phone replace as it is obviously defective?
First remove your battery and you may try to clean your usb plug on your phone by take a toothpick, needle etc.. and wrap a little piece of paper towel around it, soak with Windex or alcohol and scrub all the pins inside of the USB. This works wonder! second recommendation is to try another usb cable. Good luck.

Samsung would still fix it. I wouldn't live with it like that but to each his own
thanks for the responses guys! a few answers:
1.) i literally got this phone for $30 from a customer at my store who ruined it due to said tittysweat. no lie, the woman ran with it in her shirt, and sweat corroded the charge port. i SOMEHWAT fixed it with alch and Deoxit weeks ago, and it would BARELY charge (like maybe half a percent every 3 hours..ridiculous lol) but then after further cleaning, it completely died and doesn't work now.
2.) i've never once had insurance on my lines in all my 16 years with verizon, so i'm not adding it to make a claim, because it's gonna look fishy especially if they see 3 different phones on my acct within weeks
3.) has two TINY cracks in the corners of the phone screen, so i couldn't even get it replaced due to that as well
when i would plug it in when it barely charged, it would go between charging (ac) and just charging. so it was def messed up. i opened up the back to look at it, but i didn't take the entire phone apart yet.
i've got a replacement charge port (was 5 bucks on ebay), problem is i don't have a hot air soldering iron so i can't do it myself and don't have any repair guys near me.
just looking for basic ways to get rooted w/o having the usb port, but it seems to be futile
also for samsung to fix it, the turn around is like 2-4 weeks and i'm sure costs an arm and a leg..whereas i have a few members on here who i could send to and would cost less, and it would take a lot less time than samsung lol

So Tuesday I took a couple pics with my s3, then plugged in my usb otg to transfer some pics to that to put onto my ONE, then forgot about it. Last night i picked it up and noticed it was dead, thought that was strange but maybe i left wifi on and didnt give it a full charge before. So I plugged it into that charger last night and forgot about it. Decided wanted to take a couple pics with it today and its dead still. Like totally dead. I put a different battery in and still nothing. Been on the charger fpor a bit, nothing. I get no lights, no vibrate, nothing. Any idea why it would just die like that? Its a replacement from verizon from about August, used until mid september when I got my ONE. Kept my s3 for the camera. Any ideas what the issue is and if its bricked somehow? I was running andys bonestock, havent flashed or touched anything on it in sometime so a bit confused what the issue is.

It's bad luck, there's a whole thread describing this issue. As a general rule you shouldn't plug anything into the phone, but there's no way you Could've known that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33882126
Basically I'd check and see if you can plug it into your pc and see if it'll recognize it at all. Sometimes it'll show up as an unusual drive qusb_dload and that can be fixed. Alternatively, you can plug it into a charger without the battery, if the red light comes on that can be fixed also. If nothing works, you may have shorted the power supply which is a different problem.

Ive been using the on the go usb for a while now transferring pics i take with the s3 to my one and to store photos or other files from my ONE. Never had a problem with it. It is not picked up by my pc at all nor do i get a red light or any light with or without the battery. How do i determine if this is just a power issue and not a brick issue? Im not sure how i could have bricked it just by copying pics from the phone to the otg.
EDIT: So after reading that thread, im thinking this is likely my issue as well. It didnt happen immediately on plugging it in tho cause i was watching some of the files transfer before going back to watching my movie on tv. Is this issue just on the S3? Or should i be worried about this with my ONE as well since i have no sd card in that?

I think you're better off not using it, but I wouldn't know for sure on the one. The power issue would be a much bigger problem then a hard brick because getting parts to fix it might not be worth the cost. Plus you need to find someone who can fix that.
If you're still under warranty just bring it in and get a new one.

First, I bought this device the day it came out on ATT. I love it, but I do not know if is a malfunction of my phone or all of them are the same. When I try to connect the USB cable it gives me a really hard time cause is like if something is blocking the port. I have tried with different cables, but all of them give me the same result. I have to push really hard to get it connected and I think is something that should not happen, I want to know if you guys have the same problem or if this is something happening just to me. Thanks. :fingers-crossed:
When inserting your cord tilt it down after you first insert it. Takes a bit getting used too, but it's smoother that way. Mine does that as well.

I'm glad you posted this as I picked my last Wednesday from T-Mobile store. Everything works great on the phone , the only issue is plugging the charging cable in. I tried my other chargers as well but same with all of.them. trick is to tilt downward and it goes in. I don't know if I should exchange for a new one?
Same here. I don't think it's a big deal. Just gotta angle it a bit

Yeah, same here. Though I have noticed that the micro USB connector on the stock cable features a couple of extra "hooks" that my other chargers don't have.
My old charger connector goes into the G3 a lot more effortlessly. However, when using that non-LG charger, the phone buzzes randomly for the first few minutes after being plugged in. Sounds like I'm getting a notification, but there's nothing showing. Bugged me to no end, so now I'm back to the new LG charger. I may try to just swap out the cable and see what happens.

Yeah there's something up with other Micro USB cables.. My car charger causes the phone to do this exact same thing.
Mine does the exact same thing. One thing I did notice is the charger seems to fit better and be more snug, making it less likely for charging issues to occur like the cord coming out. Im still getting used to the way to plug it in, but i like it a lot more. I constantly had the cord being loose or having to be in a certain position on my HTC One X+. Glad to know mine isnt the only one that way. :good:

Even i had the same problem. First i thought i got a phone with malfunctioned usb port, then i found that i have to use a different angle to push the cable in.
it makes it more secure, you're less likely to break it this way... it's not a bad thing
my new tMobile G3 is doing the same freak'n thing.
the phone itself is [email protected]$$ but the port is def. a manufacturer defect.
I don't know where every one is getting this, "more secure" b.s.
It's not more secure and it may very well snap that small extension in half after some time if we're not careful enough.

I think the idea is to give the port a little more flex. there are a lot of returns on phones is the usb port coming loose, and causing improper charging, i think it was an attempt to fix a problem... and your right only time will tell if its worthy fix or just BS... lol
Glad that I found this dedicated thread
I think the fix is way worse than the problem? Now I have to teach my wife.
thank you sharing your experiences
I got a D851 (G3 T-Mobile model) from ebay. I kept thinking it's the cable I used. I don't have this issue on other devices.
I am so glad you sharing all the info here. I was thinking about exchanging it after trying different cables and all does the same.
Thank you guys sharing your experiences here. :good: :highfive: :victory:
Best, J
Here is what happened exactly:
So the phone is sitting on my windowsill so i can get service and receive texts messages. i get a text so i walk over, pick up my phone, unlock it, and i pressed on the textbox to start typing my reply message. as soon as i press the text box my phone freezes, and thinking its no big deal i hold down the power button to turn off my phone (took about 10 seconds to power off). Now my G2 will not do anything at all, wont power on, wont charge, the red light doesn't even come on with the charger plugged in.
Things I've tried:
holding power/power+down/power+up for 2 minutes+
disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes and trying ^ again
disconnecting every component and reconnecting then trying ^^ again.
disconnecting battery, plugging in charger
disconnecting battery, plugging in charger, then reconnecting battery with charger still attached
charging with lg charger for 12 hours
additional details that may be useful:
at&t D800
rooted
cwm recovery
optimus g3 custom ROM
literally never have had an issue with this phone before
a new battery is on its way in case that is the issue

Scratch that, i actually canceled the purchase of the new battery because i think i may need a new mobo instead. I'm not gonna buy anything until i get a second opinion at least.
sorry about the 3rd post in a row
I've ordered a new motherboard that has arrived today in the mail. after i get that in my old phone ill update the thread again.
I have to say though, i am extremely surprised and irritated by the absolute lack of support I've received from this site. i would always come here to find answers in other threads and the community seemed pretty awesome, so its pretty unfortunate that i haven't gotten even a single reply. i guess people only want to help others when they already no the answer...

Have you found a solution to this? My phone did the exact same thing yours did last Friday. I tried several button combos and the only thing that gave me some hope was resetting (power + vol. down). I was able to get the LG splash, then the ATT splash and jingle with the LED lights changing colors, but that was it, went back to dead. I'm debating ordering a battery and some tools to try and get this working again.

Yeah, so i got the mobo in my phone and it turned on and everything was working again! however the mobo i bought had a broken battery connection so i could only use it if it was on the charger so i had to send it back. but replacing my motherboard will fix my issue.
as for yours i have no idea, if it wont turn on even with the charger plugged in then replacing your mobo may be a solution.
i still think its pathetic that no one with real experience has replied to this thread, i guess you cant believe what your told about this place unless your question is easy to answer.

i got it on eBay, the original price was like $120 but i put in an offer of $75 and they took it. when you buy it make sure you compare the pictures on the posting to your actual Mobo.
All that you will need for the switch is a credit card, a knife, an extremely tiny screw driver, and some double sided tape(the tape is optional).
as you can see in my picture, the board i bought is on the right and the old one is on the left. you have to watch for stuff like that when buying a part like this.
i think I'm about to buy a D800 G2 with a busted screen for $40 in the next hour, if i get it ill let you know how it goes.
Success!!!
Alright so yesterday i did buy that busted G2 and when i met up with the kid i made sure everything worked before i bought it. i got back to work and made the switch(i was going slow and i was debating on swapping the charging component, took about 35 minutes).
I did not wanna put my Sim in the phone until after i had downloaded all my apps and configured all of my settings the way i like them, so about 6 hours later i get a chance to make the final switch over. when i did put in my SIM everything APPEARED to work fine, but when i left my home i realized that my data was not sending or receiving anything at all? i went to the grocery store and bought a glasses repair kit for the screwdriver inside and opened the phone back up, everything appeared to be connected properly.
I left and called AT&T customer support and this guy helped me fix the issue, apparently their system though i was still using the temp iPhone 4 i had. after he switched the old IMEI number to my new Mobo's IMEI, i restarted my phone and it worked perfectly! i highly recommend taking this route if you can get a new board for less than a new G2 costs.
The Mobo i got off the kid is legit too, i guess he bought it only a month or two ago because it has some features i did not have like the knock code. i also got it rooted and flashed TWRP, not sure if ill flash a G3 ROM or leave it like it is.
