loose power button - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello Peeps,
Have any of you noticed that your power button is loose or wiggly?
I just noticed it on mine, my phone is only two weeks old and I just noticed this issue.
I am pretty bummed about it cause I just achieved root on it.
I suppose if I were to try to take it back, they would not exchange it because of it being rooted.
Any thoughts on this?
The power button is working just fine, I just do not like that it is so loose.
I did a google search and I see that some other people have reported the same issue.
Thank you,

Its normal, hell mine fell off one day.
I use a case so its no longer an issue.

Ya I think it is a pretty common problem but as long as it does not fall out then you are fine it's just one of those "build quality" issues that Samsung seems to have on all of their phones... Gotta LOVE plastic...

Yeah its just a poorly designed button to begin with. More of it "hangs out" of the case in the back than in the front, which makes it easy to apply too much pressure to certain areas. I definitely see how snapping it off could be a very easy thing to do, so my best suggestion would be to get a case or something. If you're that worried about losing it, you could always ODIN your phone back to stock and take it back to Verizon.

I took mine in to the verizon store, and the reps said that it was normal. I think it's just designed that way.

Definitely normal. My brand new one had a loose power button, and the replacement I got for a different problem, also brand new, has a loose power button.
I love my GS3 but wish it was made a little better, with higher quality materials. Like aluminum, and glass.

Mine is loose as well. As long as it.works your fine
Even the s3 I had with sprint was loose.

Hello Peeps,
Thank you for weighing in on my post.
From what I have found, it is pretty common.
I have a case on my phone and I found an app for a lock screen widget, so I am trying to take it easy on my power button.
I agree, worse case scenario I can always revert back to stock and take it back.
Thank you,

My power and volume button are a bit loose too.
My t-mobile galaxy s3 is firm and tight. *that's what she said*

My power button does not wiggle, my volume rocker is loose
Sent From My VZW GS3

There's a little wiggle to my power button and I still use it constantly during the day, usually for turning off the display before waiting on a timeout.
It's been solid in its slight looseness.

Yeah buddy mines is gone , nothing a little improvising couldn't handle though.

Power and volume buttons as tight as a drum here.
Hopefully didn't jinx anything
I did return my 1st S3 due to a possible antenna issue.
That S3 had a power button that was flush with the frame of the phone, and you had to 'search' around for it to feel where it was.
This S3s power button protrudes slightly, as it should.

Mines loose. Lol. That just sounds hilarious

For what its worth, mines been incredibly loose since day 1. Pops off when taking my case on and off to do battery pulls sometimes. I found a site where you can order replacements for a little under 2 bucks, so I'm not worried about it (I forget what it is exactly, but its just a quick Google search away if you wanna check it out)

Hell, my 2nd refurbished one came with the power button detached, volume rocker soon followed.
Needless to say, after talking to my business Verizon rep for a while, I've got my 4th one hiding behind an Otterbox commuter case...

[Q] Loose Screen?

Is anyone having a problem with the screen, well the phone, clicking when you touch the corners? Over the past few days it seems like the actual phone and back cover are not connected tightly resulting in a click sound and feel when typing on the keyboard. I have tried to re-seat the back cover with no luck. I am going to try and get an exchange today but the whole design around a uni body phone worries me long term.
I've posted the same thing and you're not alone. What you can do is put a paper inside the case and it'd resolve your problem for now

There appears to be some build quality issues with some devices out there last night I discovered that vibrate doesn't work on my phone.
check out my 1st and 2nd post in this thread just called T-Mobile and they're overnighting my phone, I love this phone but this is the first phone I had to exchange twice
Mcp,
Unfortunately I have to go threw hell to get mine replaced since my wife is an employee.
Bad vibrations... lol
I noticed on mine the vibration is very mild compared to say the MyTouch 4G.

I have it to, actually dont know if I should take it so seriously.
Yhe it clicks a little but nothing serious.
Yup, my one day old sensation also clicks and make that noise when I press on the bottom right of the screen, just like yours. Also, the capacitive buttons are unevenly lit. This is my second unit, and I am very disappointed. I returned the first one because of a wacky battery. Build quality on that one was perfect. I might return this unit also.
Any other folks with the same issue?

I already talked to them and they were ready to overnight the replacement phone but they said they couldn't because I'm in my buyers remorse period
the bottom right corner seemed loose for me too, but i din't care that much and now, after using it for about 2 weeks it fits tight. don't know what happened.
anyone with loose buttom right corner and now its tight ???
what did you do ??
mine is loose too !!!
thats my second unit too... the first one made crackling noises when typing messages. this one is better ... but with loose corner !!!
mine is more like a loose right side. you can physically feel the screen go in to the back cover

Yes, my first unit was flawless, I would have kept it if not for the wacky battery. This one annoys me every time I press on the right lower portion. I'm weighing my options, I only have 3 days left to exchange/return it to walmart

Got the same problem.
Tomorrow i am gonna switch back covers and see if it is the issue.
I think when you take the back cover of to many times the right side will show this problem.
Greetz.
Happens to my phone as well only if I press the right point. That sounds come from the battery. Pull the backcover and press on the battery then you'll hear some clicks. But I couldn't figure out how to solve that. Even putting paper didn't help.

Capacitive button lights uneven?

On my newly exchanged sensation, I have noticed that the capacitive buttons at the bottom of the phone are not evenly lit up. The home button is slightly brighter than the the menu button. Also the search button is a little brighter than the back button. My first unit that I returned cause of battery issues had perfect , even lighting on all four buttons. Also, on this unit, it makes a creaking noise when I press the screen on three bottom left side. I might return this one also.
Has anyone noticed the same uneven button lighting on their phone?

Yeah, the menu and back are lighter, but very minimal.

Ya, I should do it, especially since it also has that lower right screen creak/click thing going on . This whole experience has not been that great. I mean, I love the device but would love to have 1 great unit free of these defects. Then I will truly enjoy this masterpiece!
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
I'm not saying it isn't an issue. but of all the issues i've seen so far, if when I get mine this is all it suffers with I'd be happy. Not too sure about the creak tho, that would be a bit off putting. HTC are normally good built quality, so a creak would be annoying.
There have been a fair few faults with this device so far, but it does seem that none of them are affecting all handsets, so hopefully there aren't any major faults going on
I think I see what you mean OP about the uneven backlit keys. For my device its minimal and you can barely notice it. I do however have light leaking from the seam next to the left of the home button. Does anyone else have this?

Same for me, very minimal. I think it's the same for all of us, actually I hadn't noticed it until I read your post and had a careful look at it.
But your creaking noise, if not coming from the back cover not completly locked correctly, so coming from the screen itself, is more worrying, your screen must be badly stuck, like for some people on the forum, so you should take it back
(see if dust is coming under the screen in the creaking area)

I also have the light leaking but it is on the other side beside the search key. It is very tiny so it doesn't bother me at all. I think I will keep this rather than exchange it for another problem.

I also have the light leaking from the seam near the home button. At first it looked like a glare, but it's obviously a crack where the light is leaking through. It's bothersome to me (my annoyance is increasing) and I think I'm planning on returning (exchanging) the phone. it's concerning to me, because I don't really know where that opening goes, i.e. where will the dust, sweat, lint, etc. migrate to once it inevitably gets inside there. Of course, everything else seems ok for now, so I wonder what other problems I'll get with a new unit.

Power Button

I know this is a GENERAL problem, so this is in the right forum. Anyway, is anyone else having issues with their power button become recessed into the housing? Like, over time, has the power button become increasingly difficult to press?
I have had similar problems with previous HTC phones, not just the Inspire.

So you're seeing this on the Inspire too? How bad is yours, and does yours lose functionality at all?
Multiple roms allow using volume controls to unlock. That made a world of a difference!

Had mine for a year, haven't had any probs with the power button.
BTW,OP, it may be a general problem, but you also made it into a question. Conundrum?
yeah i dropped mine and broke the power button by indenting it in all the way. I can't even get it to turn on with a USB cable anymore.
Sounds to me like you actually broke something, not exactly what we're referring to here. What we mean is that the power button has become recessed into the housing, making to difficult to press. Sounds to me you broke something internally and/or the screen
My girlfriend upgraded to this phone when it came out, and I swear its just like that out of the box. I didn't know it was a problem, I thought it was by design, but I've always hated it.
It may be worth mentioning, I agree the power button has always been a little trouble, even when not worn out. I recently started using a Seidio Active case. The silicone covers the power button and it has it's own protrusion for pressing the power button. If you don't mind using a case, one like this may solve your problem.

Well the design of the Inspire does actually have a more recessed power button than a lot of other phones (e.g. the Thunderbolt) by design, so maybe that is what you're talking about.
I think it's nice looking though. It's just that it doesn't have the tactile feedback you need it to. I often press the button and get no result. It needs to have that distinct click feel to it, but doesn't.
The volume button is recessed the same but does feel a little better, but not much.

Xoom rattling noise

Hi folks,
I've had my Xoom for around a three weeks now, I've rooted it and so far so good, loving it!
However yesterday it developed a rattling sound at the bottom of the device, I've not dropped the device and I haven't done anything that would cause it to have internal damage.
I'm thinking I should return it in case this issue progresses further in the future and I have more issues with it.
If anyone has experienced this issues please could you advise me on what you did?
Hi there, it could be anything from something in your cpu, camera or power button...
Does it still rattle when you gently tap your tablet?
Have you overclocked it? Maybe too much?
If you still have warranty just ask for replacement...
That is right. Get it replaced thru warranty but first you need to unroot it and lock your bootloader.
Sent from my MZ601 using Tapatalk 2
I got it replaced, the only thing I did with it was root and put the TeamEOS Wingray ROM on it. So I doubt that could have been the cause. This tablet has a similar issue too, it's no really loud. It does take a fair bit of shaking to produce the sound, but I will be using it in my car every so often so I'm not sure if it would interfere.
I'm dead please the the XOOM in general, it's spot on. I think I'll get it in the car through the week and see if it is a problem, if not I'll leave it be.
That rattle is the power button. Its not really the most solid button ever, but compared to the rest of the tablet its the only not-so-well made piece.

That would be the noise!
I'll get something to cushion it whilst using it in the car, it seems applying the smallest amount of pressure stops it!
I'm still glad I got it swapped, the previous one did originally looked like it had been opened and returned, this one did look new.
Thanks for all the help!

Power button wobbles?

Does anyone else power button wobble a little bit? I took it back to the Verizon store and he got there last 16GB to replace my phone power button felt perfect on the replacement but it had a paint bubble near the volume rocker. So I went to a another Verizon kiosk and tried two they felt the same as mine. Then I went to a third Verizon store and tried yet another one...... same issue is this just how the button is supposed to be?

Yeah I'm assuming. Because I had a case on my SGS3 and when I tried to take the case off to do a battery pull the button just popped off. I had a mini heart attack. I found it on the ground, popped it back in and everything works fine.

I had the same exact thing happen to me, the first one I had worked perfectly but when I got this new one it doesn't feel right and feels cheap. This was within 3 days so I don't think there would be another update or something unless I'm just unlucky.

I work with a VZW retailer and we actually had this happen with a white S3 right out of the box. But like others have stated, it was popped back in and all is well with the device.
Hopefully verizon releases an update soon to fix the wobbleness.
