Verizon about Jelly Bean - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

At Verizon Wireless, only the Galaxy Nexus runs Jelly Bean. Eight other phones ship with ICS: Motorola's Droid Razr M, Droid 4 and Droid Razr Maxx; Samsung's Galaxy S III and Galaxy Stellar; HTC's Rezound and Droid Incredible 4G LTE; LG's Intuition; and the Pantech Marauder. Verizon says it will ship Jelly Bean for the Razr M by the end of the year and, later, for the Galaxy S III. Another eight models ship with Gingerbread.
How is the Razr M getting Jelly Bean before us?
http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2012/10/15/with-android-phones-future-on-hold/

Who cares...there is currently 8-9 jellybean roms in the dev section! Pick one and enjoy

To answer your question: because we're old news. It's not a matter of who has seniority. They're going to put money into their new toy because those are the ones they are trying to push. I doubt they'd care if they didn't sell another original Razr.
And I have to agree, pick a ROM and go nuts. Currently on CM10 and having a blast!

Wish it was that simple but Every JB rom right now has some sort of issue no matter how well people say they run.
What we really need is a leak. Who cares about official. Pretty sad we still don't have one.

People keep buying these Samsung phones expecting Samsung to be right on top of updates. I hate to break this to you, but keylime pie will probably be almost dead by the time we get official JB.

As far as im concerned its Verizon's fault.

Couldn't Samsung just 'accidentally' leak Jelly Bean for our devices... please!

I'm sure we will get a leak soon, someone will get their hands on one.

Yeah, it is VZW's fault. So, why is it this is a historic problem with Samsung on all carriers? Don't worry, you'll get the update. Long after the phone isn't relevant.

at this point it will probably be well into 2013 before we get the ota.

AOSP no longer has enough issues to keep me away at this point...Im currently on eclipse and its solid! Once in awhile I get a data drop, but nothing major. I agree we should have a leak by now, but samsung and verizon dont play nice...this is nothing new. It really does not bother me because there is enough development going on with this device to keep me content. people just like to ***** about stuff and to top it off, we already have a thread on this topic ...which was my main point in regards to my previous post.

You dont think it has something to do with the insecure bootloader being leaked do ya? Motorola wont ever unlock thier bootloaders, so Verizon shows them more love? Just speculating here...

as far as aosp goes for me there is a serious wifi connection bug with every rom i try. the ota will at least give us stable drivers to improve aosp performance.
locked bootloader or not we still should of had the jb ota before the razr m. then again i should of known buying a samsung i would get slow updates. im sure with the jb ota they will try to lock our bootloaders again and prevent root, that's what verizon is know for doing.

here's a quote of a comment off of one of the articles on droid life regarding the new update:

Seems like it's not an AOSP problem for the WiFi.

International version and all the other carriers will get JB (and KLP etc) long before Verizon. Count on it.
We just want a leak from internal testing so we have a proper JB base and kernel on which to build custom roms. VZW usually takes months delaying (i.e. what they call testing) before they decide to release, doesn't mean its not ready way before that.

Seeing they run twi different sets of hardware the International version won't help us much..
And as far as the razr m getting jb first shouldn't be shocking as Google now ownz Motorola and will push updates to them first

for me it is and several others. never as any issues on any ics rom.

Anyone know how Sprint's S3 AOSP roms are running since they got a JB leak? Wonder if they have the same issues still like we have or if they are ahead of us because of the leak.

Trading off Inspire 4G for Infuse - Questions

Hey guys -- looking forward to joining this infuse community if all goes well.
My first question is the obvious one -- the inspire's dev community is thriving (in my opinion) and the infuse seems to pale in comparison; is the infuse still being worked on or was it just kinda forgotten by the great devs?
How about the GPS? Does samsung's GPS still blow chunks? Have had great success with my Inspire with all the mods and such, getting a perfect lock in a few seconds, hoping the Infuse is just up to par.
And what's all this with RPS file system? What does it do that makes the phone slower, and is there any way to convert to ext4? Pardon my complete lack of understanding, I don't understand any of this.
I really like the cyanogenmod ROM i've been running on my inspire -- is there going to be official support/love for the infuse or is it going to stay unofficial ports? No offense to the dev of the port, but it's just a question.
I'm not used to trade off's when modding my phone. I don't want to grab a ROM and sacrifice bluetooth or battery life. Would this be an issue with the Infuse?
Thanks!
PS: Sorry for duplicate threads, realized this is probably a better section for this.
We have lots of cool stuff here, but no much that is 'official' since we rely on ports, leaks, patches, and our outstanding developers. I have not missed CM7 at all since I came to the infuse. So much to flash and tweak and try!

Do you think things will change once GB is officially out? Or am I late and is it already out haha.
If so I'll go through with this trade off, but I really don't want to trade out a high-traffic (regarding development anyways) device for one that relies solely on ports with no real "official" love from them.

Development will definitely pick up once official GB comes out, I know for sure that a few of the more popular Roms will get an "Official GB" update, not to mention it might spike interest in mainstream Roms such as CM7, MIUI (or atleast I'm hoping )
I think one of my favorite Infuse abilities is Linuxbozo's Hellraiser Rom, you can ports tons of JVQ Roms from other phones. Let's just say it's not easy to get bored with this phone.

It will, slowly but surely we've been getting more and more leaks. The past 3 weeks we have gotten a weekly leak compared to a monthly before
, basically this shows that sammy is hard at work trying to get us GB, they wouldn't invest the time if it wasn't going to happen.

There will be official GB, just the fact that we got bootloaders shows that Samsung is preparing to get GB fully ready to ship to AT&T, and since it's already bloated, all AT&T has to do is start OTA'ing it.
If you need to flash different ROM's then what we have now (I won't lie, the Rogers GB based ROM's aren't the best, but they function and are stable, but the AT&T GB based ones will be MUCH better.
Also, if you want to test more ROM's out, just grab LB's hellraiser, find a JVQ, JVR, anything that the thread lists you can flash, grab the ROM itself from the i9k, vibrant, captivate, and flash away! There's so many ROM possibilities thanks to LB (and all you other dev's that helped).

I might not be 100% correct but I'm pretty sure Hellraiser serves as a basis on which we then download non-infuse Roms, which means it optimizes it to work like a native rom with the infuse, it really is an awesome way to fulfill your "multiple rom addiction" that most of us have

[Q]When is the 3G 4G Xoom going to get Ice Cream get Ic

When is 3G 4G Xoom going to get Ice cream?
i been asking that forever. I don't know what the deal is with Verizon not pushing out updates. I just don't get it. From what I read on Droid life is its ready to go but up to big red to push it out.
Just like the gnexus still stuck on 4.02 first carrier to have the phone last one to push out the ota WoW
Yeah it's very annoying. The problem is Verizon's testing procedures (or so I've been told) are VERY strict. Add to the fact that the Xoom isn't a priority device for VZW anymore, and yeah...we continue to wait. The WiFi-only Xoom has had ICS since December, and (again, so I've heard), Google had the ICS ROM for the 3G/4G Xoom ready not long after that. To add further insult to injury, Google and VZW pushed out an update to the 4G Xoom in February that was just a Honeycomb update (3.2.6) to fix data connectivity coming out of airplane mode. Annoying.
With the Galaxy Nexus, at least two 4.0.4 builds have been pushed to devices as part of a soak test (IMM30B and IMM76K), but neither made the cut apparently. But since they went out over the air, we have the files and can run those if we want to. With the Xoom, there hasn't even been so much as a soak test, that we're aware of anyway.
I wish I knew as well.
I've tried all of the custom ROMs and have had problems with each one. I've gone back to the Honeycomb stock ROM in each instance. As snappy & nice as the ICS is with the custom ROMs, the stock Honeycomb has been the most stable ROM ever, imho. I'm very excited about ICS coming out, but only if it's as rock solid as Honeycomb is. I'll wait a couple of more months so that VzW can get it right the first time.
Definitely. That Honeycomb 3.2.6 stock ROM is solid as a brick ****house. That's why I love it.
Don't know about you but I have had ICS on my Xoom for a while. Thanks Team EOS. And it is much better than anything Verizon would put out.

The stock ROM on the Verizon Xoom is still created and updated by Google. It just needs VZW approval before it gets released. TeamEOS isn't stable enough for my liking. Tried playing SimCity lately?

What's wrong with SimCity? (I don't game, so I'm really asking.)
Is the real issue perhaps merely that the game's not ICS-tablet-aware?
Sent from my LTE EOS Xoom via XDA Premium
It freezes constantly. It'll run fine, then all of a sudden just hang forever, giving you the wait/force close dialog box. I don't think it's an ICS or app issue since people running stock ICS on the WiFi Xoom say it works fine.

Interesting. I haven't seen any indications of that in the main EOS threads.
Did you see anyone else collaborating this issue? Were you overclocked at all? Also, at one point we switched to overclocking the GPU by default, and I wonder if that's the issue (after all, my kernel improvements wouldn't have made any difference to a game, and we're nearly stock in anything else that matters).
I wasn't overclocked. OC always makes me nervous! Could be with the GPU...not sure. What I do know is that the issue was still there as of the stable 2.0.0 release.

My answer is "never." VZW will never release ICS for this thing. It was seriously doomed from the start.
That said, EOS has created an excellent stingray rom. Again, STINGRAY. And again, EXCELLENT rom. I'm not playing SimCity, but the Sims works very well and since the app was updated, it works even better. It was freezing on restart but now it doesn't do it anymore, which is something to say about how solid EOS' rom is--a problem with the app and not the rom.

Oh dear, not this again. Last year it was "We'll never get LTE" and/or "We'll never have writable SD-Card". It's obvious the tech is there, most likely it's due to either compliance issues (and with VZ that probably means they're trying to lock something down or take something away in the ROM they're intending to release ... the bastards) or they're waiting 'till some as-yet-unannounced LTE tablet(?) device comes out first. Apparently there's a ROM in testing at VZ, if the leaked screenshot has any credibility.

CM10 is pretty stable - my only issue with it - causing me to go back to Synergy ( now on R64 ) was no NFC support yet. I got hooked on Wallet and I can't stop! Keep checking CM10 Nightlies for NFC support and you will have THE BEST Android OS yet. I only had it for ~3 hours but I already miss it.

Yeah CM10 is stable, but it also has a lot of issues like notification sounds, no NFC, call volume stuck on highest, echo, SMS failing to send anything larger than 160 characters (at least on the stock messaging). If you don't care about those things, go for it.
CM10 is quite impressive so far, but there is still the sleep of death and a bunch of other issue. To say it's stable is rather disingenuous.

I haven't had any SOD issues, so I can't speak on those, but the other issues don't inhibit it's stability, but rather the functionality. It's pretty damn good for how shortly it's been public, though.

Disagree. I haven't had any SoD or hot reboots or anything of the sort in well over a week. The NFC may be a deal breaker for some but there is pretty much nothing else keeping it from being a daily driver since it appears the echo was fixed in the latest build

CM10 official nightlies are good enough to be a daily driver now. NFC works, WiFi and data work, SMS and MMS work, etc. And there are multiple kernels coming out for OC, voltage control, under clock , etc. Obviously getting official 4.1.1 code from Sammy is ideal, but it will have TouchWiz which many agree can be slower than vanilla Android.

I don't know why people can't just be happy with what they got, I mean seriously, we have the best possible phone out right now, for Verizon and pretty much the USA. If you want JB root and flash, General consumers don't care about it. I, personally, really enjoy touchwiz, all the little tweaks and stuff it add is really cool, and probably the best skin on android, and I don't see how you can make this phone any faster realistically, real world performance, not talking benchmarks. Sorry for the rant. I'm done.

The forgotten HTC One XL

Maybe I'm alone in this but it seems like this phone is a dead end now up to this point. We still have absolutely no word from AT&T or HTC about an update to Jelly Bean.....Well mostly AT&T because HTC has released a JB update to international ONE X.
The CM10 isn't stable enough to be a daily driver due to lack of sources.
It sucks we have great developers trying to give us something big from something small.
Now that the new ONE X is out on AT&T, I doubt they give a rats ass about the Previous version, we may well NEVER get Jelly Bean.
I've been using CM10 since I rooted. I have very few issues with it.

A dead end? We've got some pretty good roms and kernels here, and active development. Maybe not as much as other forums, or as much as some would like, but plenty of people are happy about it.
JB is coming. The One XL has always lagged a couple of months behind the One X in releases, and that's continuing. But it will be out. And, who cares about AT&T? All we need is one carrier pushing it out and the devs can work from there.

If it helps the Htc One XL has come to the UK with 32gb of storage, Maybe this will kickstart some more development...

CM10 is far from bad. Now something you wouldn't have liked was CM7 on my old GS2. No matter what I did with it, it never worked right. Only problem I have had with any of the AOSP is the music playing. Stuff that is far from a big deal..
Also, who cares about when AT&T is going to release an update. Have you taken a look at the dev sections lately? There is only 1 active rom that is based on AT&T released software(not knocking the rom itself in anyway, it was pretty good). Once one of the international variants get theirs, we'll have it.
Dead ?????

Maybe I'm alone in this but it seems like this phone is a dead end now up to this point. We still have absolutely no word from AT&T or HTC about an update to Jelly Bean.....Well mostly AT&T because HTC has released a JB update to international ONE X.
The CM10 isn't stable enough to be a daily driver due to lack of sources.
It sucks we have great developers trying to give us something big from something small.
Now that the new ONE X is out on AT&T, I doubt they give a rats ass about the Previous version, we may well NEVER get Jelly Bean.

Doesn't look so dead to me...today not one but 2 new offerings:

Dead, you say ?
Yeah we just got a port(bootable albeit not entirely working) of a JB sense rom. From the DNA no less!

looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
Cm10 11/30 is a pretty good build
I feel like this is just complaining and pointless. But the same thing happened to the desire HD forum... Until! A dev turned everything around. Stop being impatient and wait.
[Edit]
Also HTC said this was already going to get jellybean so pointless complaint. Just wait

I put cm10 stable release and gave it to my wife. No complaints so far. I'm using a nexus 4 and this bad boy is no slouch compared to the nexus.
The development was slow at some point when the 2.20 did not have root, not anymore.
The CM stable release is as stable as it gets. Battery is killer with default kernel.

CM10 running 4.2 gapps.... runs amazing.

No. Just no. I use CM10 everyday.
I'm not new to modding and current run Cleanrom 5.1 with BeastMod kernel.
On CM10, I constantly lost service when using GPS. This is a well known issue that people were having (I was on the "stable" version).
I like the phone and It's actually doing well on the CleanRom............ The point of this thread was the lack of AT&T getting an update to this device.....and now that they released a new one, I'm pretty sure this one is forgotten.
I think if you're subsidizing phones and putting people in 2 year contracts, you should be obligated to provide updates for at least those two years, just my 2 cents.... but greedy carriers will be greedy carriers.

Quiet here .. odd

For a device with an unlocked BL I find this subforum to be extremely quiet. Even the Motorola Bionic forum (where I came from) is buzzing with posts compared to here, and that phone has a locked bootloader and is ancient by today's cell phone age standards.
Is it just too new? The phone has been on the market for what, 6 months? What's the hangup here?
I think people are still skidish on the whole process and don't want to brick a $800 device, as for me I just don't want Motorola to know that I have modified the device therefore nullifying my warranty lol.

I arrived here 3 weeks back they had just recently got the BL unlocked there were just a few builds going and bring maintained at that time it has increased much since then still it's hard to get any answers in the threads sometimes but it's send to be getting much better with more folks joining in, and an increase in development

Yeah I've been checking them almost everyday since I got the phone and I would say that they are definetly advancing in the right direction, but I think once everything becomes more stable and reassuring that more people will get into it.

I prefer to wait and see how Motorola play their updates before I jump into unlocking, rooting and roming. Currently we're almost on the most current version of Android and it works pretty well. If motorola decide to update us to 4.2 or 4.3 then I'll be happy to stick with that for quite a while. If they come out and say that 4.1 will be the end for us, then I'll seriously consider unlocking and reflashing then. I'm not that interested in 4.2, but I would really hope that we see a 4.3 update. Especially since the Razr HD is their flagship device when 4.3 is announced.
I did the same thing with my previous Defy. When moto announced that 2.2 was it for the Defy, I bypassed the bootloader and flashed CM7, then CM9, then CM10. It was over 12 months old at that stage, anyway.
I definitely won't be doing anything within the first 12 months of owning the phone to keep my warranty. After that I'll play it by ear...

Why in the wide world of sports did they move your thread. You didn't ask a question. You didn't ask for help. And you sure didn't need troubleshooting.
This place is so slow the mods are bored.
Lol I went from the Note 2, which development there is hopping, to this simply because I needed extra cash and a smaller screen. I'd say give it time because the bootloader unlock hack is only a month old. I heard kernels are in development as we speak.

Speaking of which...have there been any guesses on when the kernels might happen?
I just got my Razr HD Maxx, and I LOVE the phone. It is nice to have something that doesnt insanely drain a batter after coming from my Galaxy Nexus. Of course I am missing the robust dev community, but as long as a good kernel gets made all my favs (AOKP, CM 10.1, Liquid) are all in the works and almost ready to go. i can't wait!
I hope now that the bootloader is unlocked and root achieved on 4.1.2 that more devs decide to grab one of these. I scored a really great deal on one on craigslist .

I'm not sure. I just know because other people have said so. Also, the Droid Razr HD can last a day for me with 4 hour on screen time lol
Yeah I agree. With the packages created by @drbliss making this baby 'mine' was easy as pie. I think the only thing easier was running z4root on my Driod X lol
I found myself awkwardly scared to try out a new rom the other day. In the prior days I could just SS it, and it was easy. I have become so used to it that it acted as a safety net for me. Unless someone else comes up with some sort of dual boot system I'm hesitant to flash something. Funny how that works lol
I'm sure I"ll get over it

I forgot to mention but DroidTh3ory has several ROMs and a custom kernel on his DroidHive website. Everyone on that forum seems really happy and excited for the Axiom Rom which, from what I've read, has a TON of customization options. He has a new Axiom build up every freakin' day lol
http://droid-hive.com/index.php?/forum/455-roms/
EDIT: Found more ROMs lol You just gotta dig ya know? http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/forum/99-droid-razr-hd-roms-xt926/
Yeah, I guess the times way back when XDA was the place to be for stuff like this is, well, over huh.

Nope it's not over its a per device thing. Some forums have more gs3 users then others etc. Also if you notice xda has more of a global community than the other forums and the hd is a majority I'd USA phone based on sales. There are some roms here some on rootz some on droidrzr and some on the hive.I think the community has really taken off since unlock was found. It's not as crazy as the nexus or gs3 forums but that's due to motos traditionally being locked devices and having limited dev support from awesome people like hash and dh. I think a lot more devs are interested in the device now even if they don't personally own one.
