[Q]When is the 3G 4G Xoom going to get Ice Cream get Ic - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When is 3G 4G Xoom going to get Ice cream?

i been asking that forever. I don't know what the deal is with Verizon not pushing out updates. I just don't get it. From what I read on Droid life is its ready to go but up to big red to push it out.
Just like the gnexus still stuck on 4.02 first carrier to have the phone last one to push out the ota WoW

Yeah it's very annoying. The problem is Verizon's testing procedures (or so I've been told) are VERY strict. Add to the fact that the Xoom isn't a priority device for VZW anymore, and yeah...we continue to wait. The WiFi-only Xoom has had ICS since December, and (again, so I've heard), Google had the ICS ROM for the 3G/4G Xoom ready not long after that. To add further insult to injury, Google and VZW pushed out an update to the 4G Xoom in February that was just a Honeycomb update (3.2.6) to fix data connectivity coming out of airplane mode. Annoying.
With the Galaxy Nexus, at least two 4.0.4 builds have been pushed to devices as part of a soak test (IMM30B and IMM76K), but neither made the cut apparently. But since they went out over the air, we have the files and can run those if we want to. With the Xoom, there hasn't even been so much as a soak test, that we're aware of anyway.

I wish I knew as well.
I've tried all of the custom ROMs and have had problems with each one. I've gone back to the Honeycomb stock ROM in each instance. As snappy & nice as the ICS is with the custom ROMs, the stock Honeycomb has been the most stable ROM ever, imho. I'm very excited about ICS coming out, but only if it's as rock solid as Honeycomb is. I'll wait a couple of more months so that VzW can get it right the first time.

Definitely. That Honeycomb 3.2.6 stock ROM is solid as a brick ****house. That's why I love it.

Don't know about you but I have had ICS on my Xoom for a while. Thanks Team EOS. And it is much better than anything Verizon would put out.

The stock ROM on the Verizon Xoom is still created and updated by Google. It just needs VZW approval before it gets released. TeamEOS isn't stable enough for my liking. Tried playing SimCity lately?

What's wrong with SimCity? (I don't game, so I'm really asking.)
Is the real issue perhaps merely that the game's not ICS-tablet-aware?

It freezes constantly. It'll run fine, then all of a sudden just hang forever, giving you the wait/force close dialog box. I don't think it's an ICS or app issue since people running stock ICS on the WiFi Xoom say it works fine.

Interesting. I haven't seen any indications of that in the main EOS threads.
Did you see anyone else collaborating this issue? Were you overclocked at all? Also, at one point we switched to overclocking the GPU by default, and I wonder if that's the issue (after all, my kernel improvements wouldn't have made any difference to a game, and we're nearly stock in anything else that matters).

I wasn't overclocked. OC always makes me nervous! Could be with the GPU...not sure. What I do know is that the issue was still there as of the stable 2.0.0 release.

Uh, didja maybe check here on XDA?

My answer is "never." VZW will never release ICS for this thing. It was seriously doomed from the start.
That said, EOS has created an excellent stingray rom. Again, STINGRAY. And again, EXCELLENT rom. I'm not playing SimCity, but the Sims works very well and since the app was updated, it works even better. It was freezing on restart but now it doesn't do it anymore, which is something to say about how solid EOS' rom is--a problem with the app and not the rom.

Oh dear, not this again. Last year it was "We'll never get LTE" and/or "We'll never have writable SD-Card". It's obvious the tech is there, most likely it's due to either compliance issues (and with VZ that probably means they're trying to lock something down or take something away in the ROM they're intending to release ... the bastards) or they're waiting 'till some as-yet-unannounced LTE tablet(?) device comes out first. Apparently there's a ROM in testing at VZ, if the leaked screenshot has any credibility.

The TB is a Froyo device, not GB.
We'll get upgraded to GB.... but the likeliness that we'll get upgraded (officially anyhow) to ICS is close to 0.
Of course, we'll mostly all be running some flavor of ICS the day after its available to the ROM developers
what this have to do with the thunderbolt tho...lol this phone not even on GB. I cant wait for the nexus so I can dump this phone like what htc and vzw is doing.

Yea. Its annoying. On one hand Google makes them promise to provide upgrades for 18 months from launch of a phone. Then the providers are allowed to sit around and do nothing.
I don't get alot of you. ICS will be on the Thunderbolt as soon as the devs have some time to port it over. Hell Im running GB on my old G1 and official developement stopped on that back at 1.6. If you are here more than likely you are running some sort of custom rom and will be able to upgrade to ICS. Most people that really care about the latest greatest software for their device are Rooting, flashing, and reflashing every couple of weeks to new builds. For those that say that the TB isn't a GB device the official GB rom released a long time ago. I wouldn't hold my breath on the official ICS builds but by god stop your *****ing about it. If its not already rooted with S-off get it done now. Root that ***** overclock and put some life back into that 8 month old device. If you really want to have the newest hardware you will be buying a new phone every 3 months. This was the first 4G LTE phone on Verizon and so far it has made me happy. I have been running CM7 on it since the early alpha days and by God I will run CM9 on it as soon as the alpha drops. I've never been scared to try new roms.

Verizon has no incentive to upgrade the software anyways, why would they? You already bought the device and they've your money
Root it. Customize it. Curb battery consumption. Get the latest for it. Been running gingerbread for like 3 months and this thing flies. ICS will be released in the sweetest of custom roms as soon as it officially drops so just hold tight. Verizon and Google will never update this ***** again, look what happened with the official gb? Released and pulled. They want their money and for you to update to fhe newest. They want you mad at them so you spend the outright cash. Status of ICS on Nexus S?

I haven't seen or heard about when the OTA ICS updates will resume. Maybe I'm not looking in just the right places, but all of my searches (web & xda) don't have any new information.
Has anybody heard about when the updates will resume? I have the i9020a, but I guess I'm asking more generally.

What makes you think ICS OTA was stopped ?
I went back to GB for a day 3 weeks ago and the notifiaction to update to ICS keeps coming and annoying me ... One of the causes I revert back to ICS was the annoying update notification...
PS:My phone is I9020T BTW
Just haven't received any notification to update, and all the news I could find said it had been paused a few weeks ago but there was nothing new or recent saying that the pause was done with. At least that I could find.
That's because you have i9020T.
Google haven't release ICS update for I9020A yet.

I heard it was because of battery issues. True or not don't know, but im guessing there's probably more to it than that. Been waiting along time for it tho.

I've been continuing to look around online to see what I could find, and I've stumbled across a seemingly useful thread on the Google Mobile Help Forum. I haven't made 8-10 posts on XDA yet, so I cannot provide an outside link here. I'm sure I could PM it to anybody who asks.
To sum up what I've found, it looks like they're still collecting data about the issues that users are having with the ICS update on the Nexus S. A Google employee provided links on where to report specific issues, which would include the battery issue that you had mentioned.
However, it still doesn't quell any concern about when they're going to have those issues corrected, or how much progress they have made so far.
Why wait ?
Don't wait for the OTA, root your phone and install any one of the amazing choice of developer ICS ROM's to your phone
I chose the ICS version by Peter Alfonso http://download.peteralfonso.com/crespo/rom
(in tandem with Eugene's Speedy Kernel) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401455
and it's brilliant !
Haven't had one FC in three weeks of use and battery life is astounding
Go for it, it's easy to install and if you don't like you can simply revert back to your current ROM (so long as you used ROM Manager and made a backup of course)
Root is the way to go.
ICS is having battery problems. Go with a custom as mentioned above. I went with the [ROM][25-01-12][AOSP][4.0.3] Codename Android 1.2.0|Fully Open Source and its amazing!

Best ICS ROM
I have been using Crossbones after testing out another well known rom. Crossbones seems to have the magic. The developer is very concerned with stability and only adds features if it works well. No random crashes and few bugs. But he rightly labels his current build a beta which I respect. Others are labeling their betas, stable builds. If you are looking for a good rom with lots of potential check this one out. Oh and BTW great battery life.
Thank you all for your suggestions.
I used to flash ROMs on my Captivate, and kept my Nexus S as a Google OTA phone. Though, considering this whole ICS mess, I'm considering going the way of the custom ROM on this device too.
I might give it another week or two, and see if anything happens by the start of February.

If you have a linux machine compile it yourself, or pick one of many custom ROM's out in the development section or get mine from my signature, the lightest ICS Rom out there. No battery issues for me, lasts 2 days on medium usage.
Hmm i saw that Google stopped the update on some regions including mine -_- to gather feedback ...
Good ICS ROM
Checkout this ROM, it comes with the kernel in that integrated package.

I have rooted and tried a couple ice roms but found them not much better. It was at the end of November tho, went back to stock hoping for the ota. I do know that there are some awesome builds out but I don't wanna wipe again just yet but I'm getting close.
I keep getting the update notification on my nexus S, I'm trying to figure out if this ICS upgrade that my phone keeps telling me about is the same with bugs etc or a fixed one...anyone know?

[Q] Neutrino or ROM similar to neutrino for atrix 2?

Hey all,
So basically the wifi/Bluetooth hardware has crapped out on this phone and since there's no Atrix 4g anymore they're sending me an Atrix 2 MB865 tomorrow.
Having tried a lot of different ROMs on the 4g my favorite by far is the NEUTRINO ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398819 ).
I was curious if anyone had also made the switch from the 4g to the 2 and if they can reccomend a comparable ROM. I'll probably have to try what's available and find out for myself, but any guidance is appreciated!
Thanks.

RebelRom or VictoryRom easy to install debloated, really responsive.
Supercharged V5, excellent Rom, bit more to install. Probably the best as well.
I use VictoryRom because I don't have the patience to install Supercharged.
Waiting for the release of RebelRom stable.
Well I am sure none of this helped!
Really you cannot go wrong with any of them, it's a matter of taste.
ATRIX 2 / Victory Rom
I would say VictoryRom is closest to that. Atrix 4G's bootloader is unlocked right? Atrix 2 is not. So there are workarounds that make installing ROMs a different process.
Sent via Tapatalk with VictoryRom_v1.1
Use victory Rom for simplicity and closest to stock
Rebel Rom for a bit tweaked and sony-like launcher
Supercharged Rom for heavy tweaking and slight theming
Blaze Rom for both heavy tweaking and heavy theming
But the rom you wanted is based off cyanogen mod, our bootloader is locked therefore our customizations are limited and cyanogen mod isn't available for the atrix 2 yet.
Thanks for the replies. It is going to be hard not having cyanogenmod...to the point where I may sell the phone and opt for an SGS II for the time being which I hate to say because I love my Atrix .
Are there still folks working on unlocking the bootloader? I read the project cheesecake thread but it seems it's been going on forever with no real progress.

People (mainly Jim) are working on a method to get around the bootloader (bypass it) using kexec. It's maybe a couple weeks from being released. And wer're getting ICS sometime in July officially. We'll probably have a leaked version months before allowing us to get CM9 in. SO I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT SELLING YOUR PHONE. That is all.

Got the phone, rooted it and not even bothering with a ROM atm, just some tweaks (remove bloatware, deblur, launcher, cpu etc).
Honestly, in just the first day I'm liking this phone a bit more than the Atrix 4g. Phone is snappy, my speedtests are insane (don't know if it's true 4g lte, but I live in Boston and I got about 10mb/s down earlier, 1.5up), and the screen/colors seem a lot better than the 4g but that could just be all in my head due to the slightly larger screen size.
So I'm not gonna jump ship and go SGS II, just going to be patient and wait for the unlocked bootloader

When we finally get ICS for our skyrockets..

So seeing how We are still waiting on official ICS for our phones, could this be a blessing in disguise? is it possible we may get the new Touchwiz from the GSIII officially in ICS for GS2 Skyrockets?
I really like the new touchwiz and really hope we get it. i have used holo launcher and think its the best reproduction ICS themed launcher but for some reason i keep going back to touchwiz and absolutely love the new one and am hoping it comes to us officially.
While it's possible, I don't know that it's probable.
What is more probable is that AT&T will keep the new improvements for the new phone. There may be some updates, but we probably won't be getting all of the new bells and whistles.
If you want more of the newer stuff, look into one of the ROMs out there that have most of those improvements.
you guys are probably right.
I have flashed other roms like SKY ICS but that rom is way too cumbersome and has too many steps and builds. Base this, update that. wipe 3 times on everything and flash only bits from your SD card or you dont have sound etc. everything has to be done in 3 or 4 pieces. just really cumbersome just to get the new touchwiz bits. when you finally get it all updated and everything working then next day an update comes out again you flash that update which is supposed to be all good and you lose all your sounds again ugh.
tried the AOKP roms as well as the new chimara rom that has the current bug of dont let your phone die because the USB port isnt active with a dead battery so you cant charge WTF)
So now i'm back on the latest UCLE Leak build throwing on holo launcher and will just be patient for the ICS leak or another stable less cumbersome New touchwiz themed rom.
I cleaned. Will keep in General please no trolling or flaming

Dont know if that is posible since DesignGears has released information that another leak will be coming out this week !!! So I would doubt very much that our AT&T Skyrockets are receiving ICS just yet.
As for the new GSIII TouchWiz .. anything at this time is possible .. since the 3 leaks we have received so far from DesignGears .. we went from ICS 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 .. so it would be very interesting to see what changes have been made for the upcoming I727UCLF5.

Go get some of Seanz ROM based on the official Rogers ICS. It is fast and when coupled with the Mohan kernel even the touch key lights work. Sean may not even mess (I just read his post) with the ATT official because of too much bloat.
This thing is superfast, it downloaded and installed all of my previously installed apps without any user intervention. Facial recog works etc.
This ROM is perfect for me as it is (assuming btooth and wifi is ok which I couldn't test at work)
Assuming these last two things work I won't even download the offical ATT...
So close...yet so far. We are better off custom roms which is in a way more advanced than stocks.
Sent from my SGSII Skyrocket running CM9 using Tapatalk 2
I have to agree rogers would be better for a build. ATT roms are always 150mg larger because of the BS they do with it. Rogers will always be a little better. And they are really the exact same besides the bloat and modem.
Sky ICS based on the Rogers build works great! I personally prefer the CM9 builds, Rogers modem, and Instigator X kernel. There are plenty of options for Skyrocket users without having to worry about an official AT&T build - which is surely to be bloated to death anyway.
Running SKY ICS 4.3f here, thing is smooooth. Was with 4.3E up until today. With a ROM this good, who would want to go stock?
Please let us know how the battery life is with SKY ICS
If you are worried about bloat, why not just freeze it? Its something that YOU would have to do yourself but still. And its fairly easy.
Looks like S2 users have to wait a bit..

Seriously guys, stop this ****. We get it when we get it, and it's obviously very soon.

Maybe they are putting i777 on hold so they can release i777 and i727 at the same time to reduce the whining.
Here is an actual quote from AT&T PR as to what is going on withthe SGS II AT&T ICS update.
We plan for the upgrade to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) for Galaxy S II customers to be live very soon. Like with every OS update, we test it on our servers before we roll it out to customers. We’re in the process of doing that with Android 4.0 (ICS) for Galaxy S II customers and hope to make that live soon. We recommend customers wait to attempt the update.
