Obvious Screen Burn S3 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I hardly use my phone. I have a Galaxy S3 bought at the end of July 2012. The last couple days I noticed the burning through of my Home Screen. Its obvious when I have a white screen over it. Its disgusting to think that is happening on a phone not 3 months old yet. I am taking it to the Sprint store on Saturday Oct 13, 2012 to see what bs they give me. When I saw this I thought it was normal so I took it over to a friends house who uses his new S3 15 hours a day and he was shocked to see this.

Hmm... this is pretty weird. Are you stock? If not what Rom and kernel are you using? I'm just wondering if there are any display tweaks or if you made any tweaks that could have caused this. Do you always run full brightness?

Also, what is your screen timeout set to? Do you ever leave the screen on (knowing it will turn itself off in a few minutes)?

That's weird. Are you sure it's actually screen burn and not the system software keeping a ghost image?
Also, why would you bring your Verizon phone to the Sprint store? Since this is the Verizon forum I'm assuming that's your carrier.

Well image persistence is a well documented issue on AMOLED screens, so its not something that is unheard of. It is kinda strange to see it on a lightly used phone, however. I would also be curious to know your screen timeout settings. Also, can you think of any situation at all where your screen might have remained on for an extended period?

Ok... My timeout screen is set at two minutes. Yes it is at its brightest level automatic off. Now over the last couple weeks. I had it on for a long time on my desk/ overnight maybe 3 days. As someone said before, as a glamorous clock. No excuses there, but I wasn't aware of screen burn like this. Now those 3 days of overnight probably was more than 10x the amount the phone has ever been used. Since July 1 10 minutes of phone usage, and I've used it stream music from my pogo plug.
Sorry about the Verizon Forum... I didn't notice that until I posted this, and I don't know how to move it to the Sprint Forum. If mod wants to move thats perfect.
Sprints' answer today, was that they wanted to charge me $35 to hard reset because I don't have service plan. I did not feel I should have to pay to check out the phone. I've been a customer of Sprint since the very beginning. A CUSTOMER, Who never uses the two phones it subscribes to. If they were to look at my records for the last 20 years, they would be amazed at the non usage. I think I started with a $5 a month plan back in the day. Now $125, they have made plenty of money on my account for all those years. I told the sprint store rep that Samsung has a 1 year warranty on this... His answer, "then deal directly with Samsung. We will charge $35 to diagnose the problem." It was a hard stance by this store. I've dealt with them when I got this phone with a scratched screen, and also a hard stance with replacing it in 20 days. Its my fault because I don't use the phone, but when I looked I saw the scratch. By replacing the phone then, I used up my 90 day warranty to replace the phone I think. So now of course I have nothing to work with. I will be connecting with Executive Offices in Virginia on Monday Morning, hopefully I can get a decent response from them. All this over $35 and Screen Burn.

Ah yes leaving the screen on overnight several times is definitely enough to permanently damage the screen. Full brightness also didnt help. I can't say its your fault, because this type of issue isnt very well reported on (or disclosed). I love the beautiful brilliance of AMOLED, but its unfortunate that they cant handle long periods of use. Sorry for your luck, wish there was something more I could say.

I'd your phone the blue one?
I've seen very bad burn in on the store demos.

No its a white phone, now with SCREEN BURN ! You'd think they would warn people of this, but I guess not. We'll have to see what sprint says next week. If nothing from them I'll just send it to Samsung for year warranty period. I Don't use the phone that much anyway. Its a glorified MP3 player for me.

Screen burn in general is a very OLD concept... if you've used computers at all while growing up and are older than 10, you should have an idea about screen burn and make sure you take steps to prevent it if you are not sure of your device or know your device is susceptible to it. :-/

There are two types of burn, screen burn and image retention. This could just be image retention and can be fixed with a rotating pattern of static images. At least that is what you do with plasma tvs but it wouldn't hurt to see if you can do the same with a phone.

Update. Talked to sprint exe offices. I will have to pay the $35 up front, but then scan receipt and send back to Sprint to get it refunded. Sprint store verified screen burn and ordered new phone.
Ok... I like the phone bright. If doing this puts my phone at risk for screen burn... what do I have to do to my settings to stop this from happening again? I do prefer the phone to stay on for more than a couple minutes when I'm using it and of course the brightness.

It is the nature of Amoleds. If you do any reading on them it explains why they burn in so bad. So far every Samsung I've seen with an Amoled has burn in. Moment, Epic, Epic touch, Galaxy Nexus, and even the GSIII.
As mentioned earlier, you just have to take precautions.

Just don't leave the screen on overnight and you shouldnt have a problem.

I have two G3's, the one I use as my DD shows the exact same thing.

notch the brightness down a smidgon and have the screen off set at something shorter, you just have to tap your phone every now and then to keep it on while you're actively using it and when you're not it will turn off quicker. And like the guy said, don't leave the freakin thing on all night like that. SMH

To be honest, I'm surprised Sprint even entertained the idea of looking at your phone if it wasn't currently activated. Unless it just wasn't currently activated for some type of service issue. Unless you meant insurance (TEP) when you said service plan. Which, in that case, would be BS imo.
I would have thought you would have had to deal with Samsung directly.

Well, I've had my GS3 since July and I'm experiencing the exact same issue with image burn-in. This is going to be a widespread problem as more people realize they have their home screen icons permanently ghosted into their screen... especially against a white background.
If you google the GS3 burn-in, you will already find that Samsung in Korea first denied a problem, but then backed off and is now replacing the screens.
Unfortunately, my screen does not turn off while it's charging, and even if I manually turn it off, it will turn back on and stay on once it hits 100%. I'm sure other people are aware of that bug once the notification of full charge pops up. Google "GS3 turns on after charge", or something similar, and there are a slew of folks complaining about their phones lighting up their bedrooms in the middle of the night. This happens to my phone every night and I'm sure it's the reason I have the burn-in.
My next steps are similar to the OP. I have sprint and will be marching down to a full service center store to get a replacement ordered.
I don't even know how Samsung would replace just the screen... wouldn't that comprimise the whole sealed unit and allow for dust to get between the outside glass and the actual AMOLED?!? Who knows, but I'm going through Sprint first.
This is extremely disappointing.

Burn In "Fix"
Can't allready burned in screens be alleviated with simple full screen images of RBG full screen? THis idea doesn't actually "fix" dying pixels and whatnot, but its a quick and dirty fix for some burn in.
Play store link if you wanna try it:
http://full.sc/Qsjg5H
Of course, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
- If you must have a theme, use low intensity colors (the bright blue battery in a status bar is kind of burn in candy)
- As mentioned before, lower your brightness levels
- Also as mentioned before, turn off your screen when you aren't looking at it, and set your screen timeout to the shortest time bearable.
-- One thing that can help with a short screen timeout, is to set your screen to not lock immediately on timeout (have it wait a tick to actually lock after going black), that way you can easily get your screen back on with the application you were using without having to swipe or pin or faceunlock.

[Q] Whats the problem?

I see people on the forums posting all these issues . I never had any . I use my g2x everyday for school . The battery life is pretty good too i was able to get 70% still even through usage in school. I 1st had a nexus one it was a great phone but it had little memory for apps even when i had a sd card . I personally think the g2x is a great phone. It has plenty of memory space the screen isn't that bad compared to some devices. Although it didn't come with a sd card or earphones which is pretty bootleg to me but i have the phone and its great. So whats up with all these problems?
Mines perfect too but it is the 4th one. It's a shame it takes 3 returns to get a perfect phone.

Well, obviously some people have genuine issues, but more than anything it's new phone syndrome. Everyone is looking over their phones, testing them, playing with them. Realistically, if you stare at anything long enough, you can find a flaw, and when someone points a minor, barely noticeable flaw they discovered on their phone out to someone else, they either see the same flaw and freak out about it too, or imagine it.

While I do agree with what you stated I know in my case it is not just cosmetics it is a phone that is not functional and erratic. I am to receive a third one hopefully by Thursday. So far the first was unacceptable and the second was absolutely unusable. It is a shame as I really do like a lot of things about this phone.
Well i guess it is pretty normal, but i really just don't understand why you would point out a problem of your new phone that you paid your hard earned money for.

So, if you bought a new car and it had issues you would just keep quiet?
I'm not trying to be an ass or anything, but what you just said makes no sense.
People are pointing out there issues to see if others are having the same problem and possibly find a solution to the problem.
It also helps people who have not yet bought the phone to see what kind of issues it is having to determine if they still want to get it or wait until they are resolved.
8 Hours in after a 100% with at least 3 or so plus hours now with Blue tooth on and sitting at 35% now listening to music still and going to try and kill it before I'm off at 9. Let alone im twittering and using the 4g net to look at some things from twitter.
I'm not saying to keep quiet or anything but i see a ton of problems and yet i have no issues what so ever.
I just exchanged for the 2nd time today, and I am now on my 3rd g2x. The first one had light bleeding, and rebooted over 10 time the first day.
2nd one had the light bleed on a black screen, and a brown stain across the bottom of the screen when on a white background, and 3 dead pixels. The brown stain was very noticable, and anyone I showed the phone said something before I pointed it out. Worst, the gps couldn't lock my location to save its life. One day I kept trying for 40 minutes and the g2x never locked the location, even after factory resets and several reboots. I had to get on WIFI to make it work. Today it would find a location, but it was almost a mile away from me. It continued doing this throughout the day as I went to other locations. So I returned it.
Just opened up my 3rd one. I'm told they just got a new shipment today, and it's out of that shipment. My hopes are high! I turn on the phone, I tell myself this is the one. This one is going to have a display that doesn't bleed. Wouldn't you know i'm greeted to backlight bleed. But this one is worst than the pictures on the forums, and by far worst than the first 2 phones.
I'm beside myself. The phone runs so smooth, and I really want a dual core stock android phone. But between the reboots, the bleeding screen, the dead pixels, the gps that doesn't work, I think it's time to throw in the hat.
I'm trying one more time, but this time i'm going to pay the restock fee, and go to a different store. If this one is bunk, that's it, i'm done. I'm waiting for the next "super phone". I read a lot about the nexus one having major issues when I got it (ordered the day it came out), but I never had any. Maybe this is just a luck of the draw thing, and i'm exceptionally unlucky this time. But it seems a lot of other people on these forums are having the same issues.
Not a single issue for me..perfect coming from a vibrant..
I'm having a problem with the external sd card on my phone. Its locked up, not locked, like password, but locked as in it says its a read only filesystem, and no matter what I do I can't edit the files or the permissions. can some one please give me some ideas on what I can do?
Im ecstatic that I finally made the switch to Tmo last week, just for this phone. Ive been with ATT, and their Android lineup, which imo, Captivate is the only one worth hanging on to.
Ive been watching Tmo for the last 3 years get the G1, N1, Nexus S, and now the G2x. Had enuff, and left ATT last week. Got out of one ETF, but still ended up with $345 ETFs on other 2 lines. And I dont regret it one bit so far. Even went on a Craigslist selling spree of all my ATT Androids except my Cappy (loved that phone).

No issues here ... on my 4th g2x though.
I agree that some people are just nit picking their phone, but that's ok - they spent a lot of hard-earned cash on this phone and they should get one that acceptable to them.
My first 3 had major issues:
1st one had the brown "stain" across the bottom of the screen and along the entire right side.
2nd one had reception, wifi and data connectivity issues.
3rd one started FC ing every time I touched the Android to set up the phone and if I skipped initial setup so I could connect to wifi. If I did get it set up, then it was just wonky - random reboots, lockups that required a battery pull, a couple of factory resets because I got stuck in the "checking system" bootloop. !Oy vey!
My 4th g2x is acceptable. Minor lcd bleeding, but I only notice it on the splash screen and the boot and power off animations. Can't see it when playing games or watching a movie in a dark room, so I'm ok with it.
As someone said earlier, its a shame it takes so many "attempts" to get an acceptable phone. But, to T-Mo's credit, at least they are doing what they can to make it right. They've been good to me about the exchanges and never really hassled me about any of them.
Mine is fine.
LCD backlight breeding is minimal and it's not enough to bother me, but ogg vorbis tag problem is more important.
Minimal backlight bleeding. Everything else is great.
Mines fine. One reset once... hasn't happened again and its been quite a while... love this phone

After all ur exchanges, did u get a feeling that this might be an hardware issue? (I know lcd bleeding is but.. all the other issues). Then i think it is ideal to wait out for an update from t mo or google or some custom dev for fixing all these issues right? I know when u have an option to switch , we go for it but just chkng if it is becaus of hardware that we are bound to do that...

I personally think that the screen is great, my girlfriend has the Samsung Droid Charge and although its a bit sharper I think the display on the G2x is nicer than that AMOLED on the Samsung Droid Charge.

Flash always lit?

Anyone else have their flash led always dimly lit? Even when the phone is off my camera flash is dimly lit.
This is most likely the heart rate monitor. There is currently an issue with Google Fit and the S6 which causes the heart rate monitor to stay on. The only solution st this point is to uninstall Google Fit until Google releases an update that fixes the app.

I'm not sure Google Fit is the only possible source for this problem.
I have the same problem as OP. I got my S6 (non-edge, 32GB) about 24 hours ago and last night noticed the faint yellow glow on the back of the unit. I haven't been impressed by the battery life (admittedly a very limited time with it so far) - but this could explain the less than stellar battery life so far.
I don't have Google Fit installed (in fact if I go to the play store, I get a message saying that it's not compatible with this version"). S-Health is disabled too.
One other thing, when I use the flashlight feature, I notice that the light isn't nearly as bright as on the S3 - not sure if this is relevant, it is the same LED.
I rebooted the system, and even turned it off, the faint light stays on. If the unit wasn't sealed I'd pull out the battery just to confirm this light can go out :-/
I have this issue on mine as well. I first noticed it when I went to charge my phone over night next to my bed. I lay the phone on its face so the LED notification doesn't show. I noticed a slight glow from the flash diode. I thought at first it only happened when I was charging my phone. Today, while at work, I powered down my phone and again noticed the light. For me, its always on. I just got off the phone with T-Mobile and they are going to over night me a replacement. I mention this thread to the T-Mobile support rep and she looked it up while I was on the phone with her. My friend's S6 does not have this issue, so not all of them are having this. I encourage everyone to go into a dark room and check your flash diode.

No disrespect taken, man those are hard to get off (thanks for confirming this, it looked like there were).
However, that might explain the flashlight function being a bit dimmer than on the S3, but it wouldn't explain the constant light source itself.
How can we possibly check this in store where there is substantial amount of light anywhere. I'd definitely check my S6 in store for this.
Mine doesn't have this dim light at all I checked and I closed all the lights to make sure nothing is coming out . I don't know I wish I can help

I think it would be difficult to see unless you ask them to let you into a dark storage room without windows That's how I can verify mine is still doing that during the day, though at night when I wake up with the phone next to me, the glow is comparatively quite substantial.
Plus, you'll have to wait about a week before you can see them in the store.
I have two S6's and can confirm both of mine has this dim lit light only noticeable in the very dark.
The problem with us getting the device early is we don't know if this is hardware or software problem., that might get noticed and fixed with an update. Many say after the actual launch Samsung/Tmobile pushes an update. We can assume they at least will to fix the cell standby draining battery with VOLTE issue. Plus how many will we have to get shipped to us before we get one that doesn't do this, very different than being able to have the associate check it in the back office with lights off.
Can anyone that did get a replacement comment on this.

Mine is doing it too. If it is indeed the case that not all GS6s are doing this, that does make me concerned that somehow my unit is defective. I'm wondering if I should just hold onto it hoping that Samsung will fix it with a software update or if I should try yo exchange it.

I spoke with a tmobile rep. He said online orders get 20 days return exchange from the day of delivery not purchase. He also said there should be an update on a day or two after the official April 10th launch. I told him to document my account that I called about this issue. He said I could get another (two) overnight to me, but there's no way to guarantee if the new ones won't have this.
How come more people are not jumping in here to say theirs is doing it too. If its just us few maybe we do have a problem. But giving it's only noticeable in the dark maybe they haven't seen it on theirs?

I think you are right, unless you have the phone next to you at night you probably won't notice it., still odd, I would have expected others to notice it too. And, even as dim it is, it can't help with battery life. I hope it's a software issue and can be easily patched that way.
Edit: just noticed tonight that my phone does in fact have the LED issue. It's odd because I spent some time yesterday in the dark looking for the problem and it was no where to be found. Been laying in bed messing with my phone while it's charging, decided to flip it over and low and behold, dimly lit flash on :/.

This is making me think some S6s just have this defect where the LED never turns off and some don't. I think it might be best just to return my S6 and repurchase the phone after its official release date. I think these earlier phones might be more prone to defects. My gut feeling is that this is something that won't be fixed via software. I don't think exchanging the phone for a new one will help too much given that so many other S6s also have the issue, you have a good chance that the new phone you get will also be defective.

My guess is it's a hardware issue (perhaps they used a different supplier/component for this part) since all of the phones are presumably running the same software (some with the OTA update that was waiting from T-Mobile - like myself, others perhaps without it). If it can be patched with software is another issue.
Actually, perhaps it would be useful to know if those experiencing the problem have applied the OTA update and those without haven't. My hunch is it won't be a factor, but curious, so people reporting should state their situation.
For my non-edge S6 (black 32 GB) I have the OTA and my flash stays on dimly all the time.
I noticed this last night and I thought it could have just been some sort of burn in from using the flashlight. (64gb regular tmo S6)
It's basically impossible to tell with any sort light around whether or not this is happening, even just with residual light, but mine does seem to be dimly lit in a pitch black room.
Could it have something to do with the selfie feature on the camera? Using the heart rate monitor as a picture button, that is.
I have a 64 GB T mobile regular GS6 with the OTA and I do have the issue.

Stylo a bit slow?

When I first got the G Stylo it was by far the fastest phone I've ever had and it still is, but I had to get a replacement phone a couple times because the GPS on the previous phones were straight up trash. Finally I get my hands on one with a perfect GPS... and now I notice that it slows down a tinyyyy bit during the day. The phone still works great but I did notice that in a couple RAM booster apps that I downloaded (I've been trying out different RAM boosters, not all at once) and they all say that there is a total of 1.86 GB of RAM, not the full 2 GB of RAM that Metro said there was. Could this be an issue?
Also my phone is not Rooted. It's stock with Android 5.1.1. with Software Version MS63110J
Also do you think the Stylo will get the Android M update?
Ahhhhhh..... Another person seeing some one offs here.
So my deal is I upgraded VIA T-Mobile's 611. They sent me my Stylo in a day. Here is what I observed with the first phone(yes the first phone)
1. is was 5.1.1 out of the box
2. screen VERY bright!
3. sound was extremely loud, I mean hear it in the next room door closed loud
4. colors very bright and vibrant(didn't know this till I got my second phone)
5. GPS locks in seconds!!! EVERYTIME!!!!! even in downtown Houston!!
6. phone would stutter/skip even on the home screen with just a few icons.
7. battery life was 10% down with GPS on for 1 hour 10 min.
Now the reason for the second phone two sundays ago(there is a reason I am pointing towards a day) I was using the phone on and off before 10am. Right after 10am I went to check an email and the screen was doing this crazy strobing thing. It was not blanking off but seemed like the edges of the phone about half an inch in would strobe from the backlight. It was super strong for about 20min and slowly faded out. I called T-Mobile and they sent me a new phone out under buyers remorse.
a week later when I get the new phone here is the deal
1. is was 5.0.1 out of the box
2. screen bright but not as bright as the first!
3. sound is loud, but cannot hear it in the next room loud like the first one
4. colors ... here is the first big one! The colors are not the same, this phones screen seems sharper but the colors are lighter, a little more washed out and very noticeable.
5. GPS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! takes 5 min to lock and then looses it's lock every few min and nothing at all downtown!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE ****!!!!
6. phone hardly skips a beat when scrolling on the home screen, even when packing on more icons.
7. battery life was 10% down with GPS on for 1 hour 10 min.(same no real dif but did notice maps was higher in battery usage than the screen(same brightness level)
Now while I was waiting for the replacement phone I noticed something odd with the original. At 10am this last sunday the screen did the same exact thing again! It was fine till I turned it on again just after 10am...... I have no idea why it did that, no it's not an app because when it happened the first time exactly one week early to nearly the min I reset the phone hoping it was an app.... since I expected my replacement phone to arrive last tuesday I never restored the original so none of my extra apps were on the phone all week.
So here is the deal why the huge difference in phones???
Any fix for the GPs so I don't have to burn through phones like the first guys here, and with that Hades.... did you see such a difference with the phones?

could be the OS version did you update the other one? and there was talk about LG making this device cheaper by using third party screens and possibly a third party GPS antenna (which would explain the GPS problem if the update doesn't fix it)

Did you say you have stock out of box software rev MS63110J ? I have been waiting to get this OTA from METRO PCS since i bought the phone two weeks ago and keep checking for the update and asking them about it.... maybe it takes time for them to have my phone to be in the system before it gets pushed to me ? Im actually thinking of rooting and flashing the update but not sure i want to root flash then root again . this whole update getting pushed to our phones is bull**** you call your provider they say its up to the manufacturer to find out if the update is coming then they tell you its up to the provider to get that info my gripe is this 10J is a security issue fix we should have this fix immediately its almost already time for the next version of android ffs lol

My bad, I wasn't clear. When I said I was running stock I meant I didn't root the phone. No I got the update pushed to my phone about a week ago. Here take a look.

Well I burned through like 3 phones. This last phone.. its good. It slows down after a couple days without a restart but I guess that is understandable. The screen has always been consistently bright, this last phone though the colors do seem a bit washed out, but the gps locks faster than I can say "GPS." The volume is loud, and I'm hoping the color wash out is just my eyes messing with me. It's nothing horrible... but I'm very touchy about screens and their performance. One thing that does seem to get me though... The front facing camera is supposed to be 5mp and the first phone I had took AMAZING selfies. This one seems just... meh... So I might go back in and get that checked out at Metro.... but I don't want to risk getting a replacement phone that has a worse GPS...
Any thoughts on the Anroid 6.0 though?
I am going to resurrect this thread.
Ok T-Mobile let me keep the original phone for a bit and here is what I have found.
both phones on the j software
the original has mostly green for GPS(using GPS test) the replacement never hits green on any sat
The original screen has crisper colors
The original does seem to bog down a little every now and then
The replacements touch screen is touchy and causes me to type erratically
The original doesn't creek
And the original has a much louder speaker
So I am thinking I will be sending the replacement back and keeping the original and hope for the best with that crazy screen flicker thing every Sunday at 10AM. and no it's not an app as the original has been setting for a couple weeks now without me logged in and the only app sideloaded being GPS Test.
It is clear that at this point trying to get a replacement for the replacement might yield the same GPS issues. If the screen on the original dies I'll just order a replacement but I have never had a phone with this great of a GPS as the original and I mean it is good. I'll do up some screenshots of the two side by side and post em up. Just crazy how different they are.
If I were u I would root it and install turbo's ROM. My battery lasts all day now and the internet and browsing is super fast. This is the best thing for this phone
Can I run turbo's ROM on my LG LGH635 (Stylus) ?
mine is like that
1. its 5.0.2 after 1 and only update
2. screen is bright
3. sound is loud
4. screen seems sharp but the colors are light, a little washed out
5. GPS does not suck but with a GPS Status & Toolbox it keeps phone up and good
6. phone hardly skips a beat when scrolling on the home screen, even when packing on more icons but its loosing all of the background apps quickly when running something bigger like a game or browser
7. battery life is fine while playing Ingress

When I was having slowness, it was because my free space was low. Free up some internal storage space. Also disable/remove the My TMobile app.
Ok so happy days are here!!!
Talked to T-Mobile and they were being cool they were willing to send me out another phone, but I asked if I could just return both and clear my account and they said yes. With that I went to Wally and snagged up the last one on the shelf because of a hint in another forum. Seems that one guy on here is correct, TM and LG are now putting cheaper screens, antennas and memory in these things. But the hint was that Wally's shipments and warehouse stock are the original patches and yep I got lucky and got one!!! GPS locks in less than 5 sec and never looses me and I have even seen it hang around 9 feet!!! The screen is bright and crisp and the colors are like the first one I got and are nice and vibrant! The speaker is even louder! I can hear pandora clearly 60 feet away.... might be too loud lol.
Also the phone is faster and is running nice and smooth.
So I am now happy and I mean happy lol
Buuuuuuut, When looking at the memory on this one compared to the other two there is 5.6gig of System Data.... I looked around and someone found dialer codes for the G3/4 to clear out a log cache but I have yet to find it for this phone. Again the original two only have system data of around 300megs. Doesn't matter to much since I snagged up a 128Gb MSD and threw in it, but not everything can go on the MSD.
Might try that Turbo rom but I have a few work apps that look for root so I'll have to wort that out first, I need them.

[Defective Device] Screen is blur all of a sudden!

I pre-ordered my S7 edge (SM-G935FD) and was using it moderately (as a normal user generally does). Everything was quite normal and I didn't tweak any of its settings. I didn't even try out any graphic intensive games on it. But on the 20th day of its usage, I noticed a slight tinge of discoloration on the screen, appearing as if screen burn-in had ocurred. I tried factory reset and the situation worsened after 22nd day. The whole screen went greenish! I don't know if it's related to "Always On" feature but I can presume that as the only reason for the sudden burn-in. Hopefully, I was able to replace it with a new one as it was under 30 days replacement guarantee.

You just got a defective unit, doesn't have anything to do with AOD.
if it was, more people would say this, and the AOD jumps around the screen to prevent the burn-in
Nothing to do with AOD at all

I agree with you, but why did it happen all of a sudden on 20th day of its usage?
All I can assume is that pre-order lots are quite low graded!
Definitely not AOD related.
That is definitely not related to AOD. This is a hardware fault. You'll need to return it for warranty repair.

Every company has these issues, you have to realise this phone was manufactured in millions and accidents can happen. I got a black phone first and later switched to gold simply because I preferred the color, both phones were perfectly working. And AOD definitely is not causing this, you can use the feature without worrying.
like everybody else is saying. nothing to do with AOD. this can happen to everyone. don`t even think its a burn-in, seems like parts of the screen is dying(as for the curtin effect) you don`t need to worry, this prob won`t happen again

This is not even screen burn in. If it's screen burn in you can see the aod clock every time. Not these discoloration issue. You just have a faulty unit. That's all.

I also had problems with my first S7e. Had a dead pixel and was not able to fix it. Changed it and now everything is ok.
To generally say preorders had lower quality is wrong i would say. At the moment it seems to be obly a few devices and compared to the order volume its normal to have a few problems with some small amount of devices. So please change the header or let delete it as it might be confusing and fear some people without any reason.
Thanks

Exactly the same thing happened in my friend's Note5 and he got a replacement in india........it happened within 2-3 days of his purchase............criticize samsung india on their official twitter and facebook pages for deploying poor quality standards in their indian manufacturing unit,i had a terrible time finding a good black onyx device in india as two of them had dead(black) pixels in their resp display's and one had a terrible front cam ......................
You just got a lemon screen, just unlucky really. Doesn't really happen often and when it does, only a minority units (yourself etc)
Like most are saying. That doesn't look like burn in. Just a bad display. Bound to be a few. Sorry for your bad luck.

Screen splitting, tearing issues

Anyone experienced this? Phones just out the box, got my apps installed and was testing the phone out. Screen splits and looks like it's overheating. Assuming it will have to go back for an exchange.

Definitely not right. Take it back for a replacement.
Finally got the phone exchanged with T-Mobile, new one works fine but man does it get hot. I've had warm phones before but this one, especially during setup got so hot that I was worried about something internally melting. I actually shut it down till it cooled off then finished setting it up. I think whatever thermal throttling LG has setup for the phone is not conservative enough. I read where others have had concerns over the temperature this phone runs at and now understand those concerns. Heat is an electronics device enemy, this phone under setup or heavy use has a lot of them.
Most modern phones get hot now. Samsung Galaxy get so hot you can barely touch them when GPS is running. While I love the features these phones have, I'd sacrifice some screen resolution for better battery life and performance. Why we need quad HD screens this small I'll never know.

My V10 gets hot fast, even when just downloading or updating apps. My G5 doesn't get too warm really at all. It depends on the phone you get I guess. It sucks. A lot of people said their V10 didn't get hot, but here mine does. I guess it's just what you end up with. I WISH they all came the same or that companies would do a little more quality control. I've returned a lot of devices in the past for different problems but it seems there is never a "perfect" one.

I would put the phone back to stock. Call T-Mobile and tell them what happened, I've exchanged Samsung phones that have been rooted and tho I've flashed back to stock knox was tripped and they have never said a word about it. It's clearly a hardware issue and rooting it can't cause that, I can't say if it's policy or not but T-Mobile has always been fair with me, I imagine if the issue was in somehow related to rooting they might say something but haven't ever with me, it's always been hardware so I can't say.
Here's what happened with mine
Called them, told them what's happening and I had to pay $20 for the exchange. I had ordered mine by phone so that's the route I had to take, they mailed a new one to my local store, I went to pick it up and they inspected my original phone for cracked screen, water damage or signs of abuse, they never even turned it on to check bootloader or anything. We swapped phones and I was on my way.
This should help you also, when I originally called in the rep asked if I could send him some pictures of the phone so he could put it on file should this become an issue, which I did. I sent numerous pictures and screenshots so hopefully the next in line doesn't have any issues.
@Ducter I'll give it a try. Thanks buddy.
Lost my T-mobile G5 to the dreaded screen tear just 2 days into owning it. I'm in Canada though so I'm probably screwed for a replacement.
How to fix LG G5 Screen Split issue using Heatgun.
Disassemble LG G5 using the link below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hveXdJLJEeU
Disconnect the Wifi Cable (Black One), Rear Camera, Front Camera.
Now with just the logic board, place it on a surface that won't melt.
It should look like the picture below. Warning don't take off anything else
https://imgur.com/a/gmp9Z
Turn on your heatgun and apply left right motion only concentrating on the cpu metal plate for around 15 seconds.
Do the same thing on the opposite side of the cpu plate.
Let it cool down for around 10 minutes.
Put it back together and it should work.
I did it atleast four times, first time it worked but failed after few minutes.
Second and third time was not working at all.
The fourth time I did it, it was working.
It's been a while and it still going.
Credits to the poster.

****please disregard. Figured it out. Looks like six screws holding in the logic board also.
Thanks for sharing. I went to the original post and thanked there also.
I'm stuck trying to remove the logic board. I can see how the front camera comes off very easily. I can't find anything that looks like a black cable for wifi. Also can't figure out how to remove the rear camera. Any pointers?
Thank you in advance.
