Ok so I've read so many types for the Verizon one and an update coming out the 17 of October, my question is which one really works, latest one, least pain in the ass, anybody has one that works can you point me in the right direction?
There's a couple out, just don't know which one to pick, and do that have any bad residual? Hopefully this is in the right forum.

Is there any difference between the Nexus way and the Sprint S3 build prop way?

Just made a huge mistake.
Sold my white GSM Gnex on XDA and picked up an international Note. Couple of problems with the Note...it lags terribly and the WiFi continuously downloads on my home network for no apparent reason, even after a factory reset. Other phones on the same network do not behave the same way.
In any case, I'm preparing to return the Note. What do I do next though? I've pretty much decided that I need Jelly Bean. I don't want a GS3 or Note II. I'd buy another Nexus, but I've heard there's a new one on the horizon, so I don't want to spend $350-400 on another phone with a 5MP camera.
Currently using an iPhone 3GS in the meantime. Help!

I need a phone with good battery life (well good as in i can make it through the day), i would like to know if the One X does well. If i root, debloat, and disable LTE radio will i make it solid through a day? My current phone (pantech Burst) i have to charge a few times to get through a day and its annoying. That is will all the above steps done. I'm not sure how hard it will be to root and run a custom rom on this phone but even if i use the standard but root debloat and turn LTE off will i be good? Thanks!
I have never seen this phone last less than a day.

Sounds like a challenge ...
I don't have LTE in my area, so I don't know how that would affect me. I last easily a day with the One X. I used to charge my GS II at lunch from ~50% back to 100%, and still have concerns I wouldnt last all evening. With the same usage I can last all day and end with more battery at bed time. Judging by the screen on time I easily get twice the battery life on the One X. And that is without doing anything special, using my phone quite a bit using data to stream Pandora a few hours, listening to audio books on the commute, all over Bluetooth. I am running Venom FWIW.

Any guides for best root and so on (i know i probably could find easily just want to know if theres any tips before i get started). Can't believe i picked up one for 50 on contract, just seems like a steal of a deal!

My only recommendation is that you pray that your new phone comes with 1.85 on it and not 2.20 as there is no root for the latter as of now. Either way it is ONE hell of a phone, just so much better with root and unlocked bootloader.
Def hope for that! Is it hard to unlock the bootloader?

If its on 1.85, its tricky and complicated, but a lot of easy steps. If its on 2.20 its not possible yet.

First week of August. Each update plugged the hole used to root the previous build, so each update was like a chess match for the community. The bounty for a 2.20 root is now over $500.

I think he was referring to the GS III being a better phone (to be honest I agree, but got the One X for free after several DOA replacement GS IIs). As far as putting a new ROM on a Samsung phone "its so easy a cave man could do it." Its crazy simple and easy compared to the One X. I was able to load a custom ROM on a GS II before even booting it once, several times as I got replacements. There is no S-OFF, or bootloader to worry about. There are many threads about the GS III vs One X. They are both good and each have their own pros and cons.

I am seeing at least twice the battery life on the One X compared to the GS II. I never really worried about battery life because I could charge at work (and did for a few hours every day) and in the car. I can go all day with the One X. Right now I am almost dead at 5 hours of screen time. I never saw over 2 hours on the GS II. But, I never tried to maximize battery life, I used Bluetooth and Pandora whenever I want, I browse a lot, because I am always near a charger (and I use the One X the same way). I liked AOKP on the GS II, but the AOKP here isn't close to as polished as Task had it. I am fine with ViperXL, as a sense based ROM with lots of customization options not there on stock. I flashed 3 ROMs the day I got the phone, and stayed on ViperXL. That was 2 weeks ago, I feel no need to flash anything else.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296
See my comment (the last post in the thread). It took me several tries and a lot of patience. Once rooted you can unlock bootloader, install TWRP and get to flashing ROMs.

How long the battery last is obviously highly dependent on how you use your phone (in particular, screen on time, downloading, streaming, gaming, video, etc.). But I can get over 48 hours on a single charge on my One X, with LTE on during the work day, and on WiFi at home.
As already mentioned, whether you can root or not depends on what firmware you get shipped on the phone. Some people are still getting new ones with the 1.85 firmware, which is rootable (and you can unlock the bootloader after root). But many are getting 2.20, which is not currently rootable, and no bootloader unlock). Your chances of getting a phone with 1.85 are better if you buy from a store (versus online), I believe.

Kinda figured this would happen. Now if HTC was a decent company they would still release their source...but we all know they wont.

I never really expected this to happen after observing all the work from the devs on it. ICS has always ran kinda wishy washy for me. I mean it works and all, but there are definitely some performance issues and bugs no matter which rom you use. Verizon nor HTC intends to release a shoddy product. It either has to work 100% or not at all. If ICS cant run as well as GB did, then it aint gonna happen.
I wish I had a dollar for all the false rumors that have been posted about ICS, I'd buy Verizon and have enough left over to keep me in booze and hookers for the rest of my life!
I think this is one more dollar in my stash....

If that were the case though, the thunderbolt would've ran well from launch day, which anyone who had one since then will say that it didn't. Originally the battery life was horrendous and had to be fixed by an OTA.

NO ICS
just called HTC ,,, and they told me , that we are not getting ics,,, htc thunderbolt is discontinued,,,, :crying:
We could call and email different reps at HTC and we would get a slew of different responses from them all. Stuff like this no one will know the correct answer as tech support as we all know is the last to know.

So let's see if I understand this... the OFFICIAL WORD from Verizon AND from HTC is that the Thunderbolt will or will not get ICS and will get it within the next two days or later than that or never.
Does that about cover it? <G>
Honestly, I don't see what all the flap is about? ICS doesn't offer anything I need or want other than (I HOPE!) a better kernel for the Devs to work with.
Meanwhile, NuSense works for me and the BAMF leak works for me if I want ICS and, if I want Gingerbread, Infected ROM works for me and Thunderstick BB works for me along with a bunch of other ROMs I've tried.
Was at Verizon today, Reps informed me there will be no ICS for our phones...Cant say I'm surprised...my upgrade is in January, not going to worry about it .. Can't believe they state we would get the upgrade, then renege ..
If Apple can upgrade their older model Iphones for several years , why can' t our Android phones do the same.. and no I'm not switching..

Just out of curiosity, has anyone considered going back to the Galaxy Nexus? I have been debating it thoroughly these past few days. I understand that hardware wise the S3 is definitely a better performer but software wise? I'm kind of torn. Just asking for opinions is all. I like discussion and seeing what others think. I am not rooted or flashed yet if anyone asks I tried last week and ran into the activation bug that most were getting so I am back to stock with newest VZW update.

Came from a gnex and there is no way I could go back to it, and I really loved that phone. Battery life is abysmal and I enjoy not worrying about my battery all hours of the day. Definitely more development over there, but there are enough ROMs and such to keep me happy with the s3.

While I loved my Nexus, and we still have two in the family, I wouldn't go back. The developer support is awesome, but there is plenty for the S3 as well. The S3 out performs the Nexus in just about every other category, and blows it away, when it comes to battery life.
I had a Nexus for less than a week. After 3 sim cards and a total replacement, I returned it for the S3 and haven't looked back. Signal strength on the S3 still isn't all that great, but getting better. It is still hands down better than what I ever had with the nexus.

After losing the MEID on my first S3 after flashing CM 10.1 (I found out too late how to repair and backup MEID), I thought about going back to the Nexus. The Nexus does not seem to have issues with MEID when flashing JB 4.2.1 or any other rom for that matter. The Nexus also doesn't have the silly trip counter either when flashing a custom rom. However, it has awful battery life and the radio doesn't seem as good. When I would use iHeartRadio via wifi, the stream would always cut out. This never happens with the S3.
There's an app that will reset the trip counter if you should ever have the need.

Galaxy s3 is far superior.
Battery life is the WORST on galaxy nexus.
The only thing gnexus has going for it. Is it is first in line for Ubuntu software and there is a toolkit for most, if not all versions of the gnex.
Feel free to correct me.
But I believe those features will come with time as the gnex is a year older? If not more.
