Is the One X the phone for me? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I need a phone with good battery life (well good as in i can make it through the day), i would like to know if the One X does well. If i root, debloat, and disable LTE radio will i make it solid through a day? My current phone (pantech Burst) i have to charge a few times to get through a day and its annoying. That is will all the above steps done. I'm not sure how hard it will be to root and run a custom rom on this phone but even if i use the standard but root debloat and turn LTE off will i be good? Thanks!

I have never seen this phone last less than a day.

Sounds like a challenge ...
I don't have LTE in my area, so I don't know how that would affect me. I last easily a day with the One X. I used to charge my GS II at lunch from ~50% back to 100%, and still have concerns I wouldnt last all evening. With the same usage I can last all day and end with more battery at bed time. Judging by the screen on time I easily get twice the battery life on the One X. And that is without doing anything special, using my phone quite a bit using data to stream Pandora a few hours, listening to audio books on the commute, all over Bluetooth. I am running Venom FWIW.

Thanks! Just placed my order and I'm excited! What recommendations do you think i need to do when i get this beautiful phone? Any guides for best root and so on (i know i probably could find easily just want to know if theres any tips before i get started). Can't believe i picked up one for 50 on contract, just seems like a steal of a deal!

My only recommendation is that you pray that your new phone comes with 1.85 on it and not 2.20 as there is no root for the latter as of now. Either way it is ONE hell of a phone, just so much better with root and unlocked bootloader.

Def hope for that! Is it hard to unlock the bootloader?

No the Sgs3 is. Had both pal and there was a clear winner

If its on 1.85, its tricky and complicated, but a lot of easy steps. If its on 2.20 its not possible yet.

Are you referring to the gs3 is hard to unlock or the gs3 is the better phone? Hard to follow the post. Thanks!

First week of August. Each update plugged the hole used to root the previous build, so each update was like a chess match for the community. The bounty for a 2.20 root is now over $500.

I think he was referring to the GS III being a better phone (to be honest I agree, but got the One X for free after several DOA replacement GS IIs). As far as putting a new ROM on a Samsung phone "its so easy a cave man could do it." Its crazy simple and easy compared to the One X. I was able to load a custom ROM on a GS II before even booting it once, several times as I got replacements. There is no S-OFF, or bootloader to worry about. There are many threads about the GS III vs One X. They are both good and each have their own pros and cons.

I am seeing at least twice the battery life on the One X compared to the GS II. I never really worried about battery life because I could charge at work (and did for a few hours every day) and in the car. I can go all day with the One X. Right now I am almost dead at 5 hours of screen time. I never saw over 2 hours on the GS II. But, I never tried to maximize battery life, I used Bluetooth and Pandora whenever I want, I browse a lot, because I am always near a charger (and I use the One X the same way). I liked AOKP on the GS II, but the AOKP here isn't close to as polished as Task had it. I am fine with ViperXL, as a sense based ROM with lots of customization options not there on stock. I flashed 3 ROMs the day I got the phone, and stayed on ViperXL. That was 2 weeks ago, I feel no need to flash anything else.

I tried them all, only this one still worked for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296
See my comment (the last post in the thread). It took me several tries and a lot of patience. Once rooted you can unlock bootloader, install TWRP and get to flashing ROMs.

How long the battery last is obviously highly dependent on how you use your phone (in particular, screen on time, downloading, streaming, gaming, video, etc.). But I can get over 48 hours on a single charge on my One X, with LTE on during the work day, and on WiFi at home.
As already mentioned, whether you can root or not depends on what firmware you get shipped on the phone. Some people are still getting new ones with the 1.85 firmware, which is rootable (and you can unlock the bootloader after root). But many are getting 2.20, which is not currently rootable, and no bootloader unlock). Your chances of getting a phone with 1.85 are better if you buy from a store (versus online), I believe.

Say what you will about the SG3 radio... But I have never dropped a call or had a 4G outage since I purchased it on launch day. My Nexus however was a completely different story. The Nexus will give you a new rom to play with every night, but the GS3 will give you fewer headaches in the signal and battery departments.

Good bye HTC Rezound, hello Galaxy S3!
Even if the bootloader dont get unlocked, ill be happy using the kexec method...other than the extra 30 seconds boot time, I see no difference. Also our current flashig methods dont trip the flash counter since were Not flashing non-stock firmware in odin!

I had an Epic Touch (on Sprint) and went to a Galaxy Nexus (on Verizon) then a S3 and IMO it's a huge upgrade. I absolutely love this phone and wouldn't even consider going back to a GNex. The only thing I don't like is the physical home button but a stable AOKP will resolve that. As for the locked boot loader I was a little concerned too but with Kexec it's irrelevant. They already have CM9/CM10/AOKP running on this phone. I'd rather just use Kexec knowing I can return to stock then void warranty with a bootloader unlock. JMO!
Both are great phones, I have the GS3 and my old man has the Nexus. Touchwiz isn't too bad if you get use to it.

Leap of faith

So I'm all set to upgrade from the Samsung Infuse 4g (rooted running emancipation) to the HTC One X even after the whole update debacle I'm having hope that at some point the handcuffs will be taken off of this phone and that some devs will hold onto the device until that time. I've seen all the negative threads with development with this phone will die soon but how many devices have stayed locked down their entire life cycle for HTC? If anything a stock One X is still far greater than a rooted Infuse.
The devs here are dedicated and talented and I appreciate all the work I've seen them put into trying to find cracks in the system to free this phone.

Just wonder how long I'll have to wait too root it.
The only thing left is I can't decide between the Incipio Duo case and the Ballistic SG, I've read metalheads incipio review and have an incipio on my Infuse but the phone will be spending a lot of time in a backpack so I'm just stuck picking a case. Also open to any other cases that add protection with the multi layer design that aren't as bulky as an otterbox.
Thanks!

I agree the Incipio looks so sleek does it offer enough protection to give you peace of mind if there is an accidental drop? On my Infuse I started with an Otterbox Defender and went to the Incipio and glad I did, I just don't like the play it has on the top and bottom of the Infuse which is what lead me to question getting one for the One X.

Not difficult at all. I'd rate it as a 1, with 1 being the easiest. Sure, there are a couple of extra steps involved since you have to unlock the bootloader but it's very simple as long as you follow the directions. If you are lucky and get one that is still on 1.85 make sure they don't update it at the store for you. I've read reports of that happening to people. Just use the 1 click root for 1.85 in the development section and then unlock your bootloader. Good to go after that.

Just a tip when rooting, use the tool that's stickied on the development forum and uncheck fast boot in your power settings before starting. Turning fast boot off seems to be optional but I tend to get more success with it off (3 HOX's so far)

Yep. Just called AT&T. However we can call in and have the sim cards reassigned so no big deal. Either that or buy a new one for $25. Obviously the first option is much better.

Just cut your sim card to the right size of a micro sim. I've done that before and it worked fine.
I've also come from a Note before this and am very happy with the switch to the HOX. It sucks your on 2.20 tho. It doesn't look like there's gonna be a root for it anytime soon and even if there is you may not be able to unlock the bootloader. I suggest trying to find a HOX with a lower fw. I actually have one that I'm trying to sell.
Sim cards are free... I went in and got a micro sim from att and then when I got home (phone was waiting on my doorstep), put the sim in, called 611, and activated it! Easy peasy.

Even tho that may be true, if I were you, I wouldn't switch. I think the roms are better here. There was always noticable lag with the snapdragon s3 when I had the Note. Also, the community wasn't pleasant at all. You think there's flaming in the hox community? Wait until you get a Note. Although, things could have changed. I haven't had the Note since May. I already rooted and have cm10 running. And I'm happy other than battery life. But that's ok I always have a charger near by. I only like the true Google experience and hate the sense ui. Better off selling it at this point, that is if you don't really want it.

+1 for that haha.
I took my first one x back after 4 days to get the grey one. I had it unlocked and rooted and all they did was open the box, check for the charger, phone and USB cord. They do ask if you rooted the phone. I told him I didn't know what that meant, then he processed the return *your results may vary

lol I would love to work for a carrier... First thing I would do is load the bootloader up and check, but also boot the phone up just incase. Then if i see a custom rom, tempered/unlocked bootloader I'll just laugh and procede with the return/exchange.
Android to wp8 won't be a sweet transition so i would say that you go and get x+ if at all they happen to take it back !

This. When they look at your boot loader and see tampered and unlocked/relocked they won't take it. Good job reading about what rooting and stuff would do to your warranty.

Good job reading the actual question and contributing to the actual conversation! At any point did i ask for any advice about my rooted rom or my unlocked bootloder? I was only asking advice on the physical phones.

If you rooted that means your unlocked... good luck returning that.

Completely different things. Rooted does not mean unlocked.

Have you ever taken anything back to an att store? If it's in the first 30 days all they look at is to make sure your phone is in pristine condition and they exchange it on the spot. I'm only looking for advice whether i should trade up to the one x+ or not. I guess all everyone cares about on this forum is the at&t "warranty"

Make your mind up, choose one and live with it.
I don't get these threads, how would we know what is going to work for you.
As well, there will always be something better coming out so YOU really have to know what YOU like an want and stick with it a bit.

I personally not invest any time or money in a phone OS that has a 1 to 2 % market share, such as in the base of Windows Phone (market data showing WP at just under 4% market share actually include those that are still on the old Windows Mobile platform, and have simply not updated their devices).

smh
Unlocked bootloader...
Galaxy Note II
I say wait till windows OS matures (maybe a generation after this one) because they don't have many important apps in their market ecosystem, currently. HTC One X is a good phone and you won't miss much except for the wireless charging plate included in the Lumia 920; uses the same processor too.
I'm deciding between the galaxy s 3 and the HTC one x atm

(Q) Coming from s2 skyrocket

Opening my own contract with AT&T. I've ALWAYS had a Samsung phone. And it recently started looking like every phone they released looked the same. I mean the s4/s3/note/note2 look exactly the same besides bigger/smaller dimensions.. Is this phone still worth getting?? Can it still hold its own. Is there more to it than I think when it comes to unlocking boot loader then flashing ROMs?? Should I just get the HTC one.. Or X+ even?? Please give me your opinion.. Thanks!

Thank you for the reply. My only concern with the ONE being can it be rooted and able to flash ROMs SOON?? Cause if not I'd prefer to wait till its able. Unless you think its fine out of the box?

I would also like to note this will be my very first HTC phone I've owned. So please give me advice on these phones as to how much is different from Samsung. As in rooted flashing recovery. What's this s-off/on stuff?? I've never messed with it

my expert advice would be to do some research.
I came over from a captivate and didn't have too many problems getting adjusted. There are loads of tutorials on what you'll need to do with root and bootloader so it's just a matter of reading and getting started. I'd honestly recommend getting a One though. I love my one X, but I can never recommend getting an older phone unless you can't afford / don't care about the newer models. I don't know about development for the One X+, but I'd take that over the One X just for the storage space.

Just get the one. Not because Samsung are terrible (they are not) but because it it something different. Its like going someplace to eat and getting the same thing. Try something new. Plus HTC makes phones to last (of course when you take care of them)

This... One x is still a great piece but with the available options you'd be silly to but this handset but that's my opinion also.. I've had mine a year and still love it but soon, new device will make it into my hands...
