C'Mon don't be so rude
Polite answer - if you're getting impatient try the ICS Alpha ROMs
No one knows when the official OTA is going to come out exactly, so be patient or try out the Alphas...

so according to his twitter feed the samsung servers are giving information about ICS, he isnt answering questions though or getting into details, kind of disappointing
Well the Nexus is out now, so it shouldn't be too long. Sometime before Xmas I would imagine.

back when i had an x10 there was a website that would show firmwares being uploaded by sony ericsson for ota updates. They were usually available within a few days, so im hoping its the same case here.
Let us wait for OTA... Now I am enjoying with Kwiboo's ICS V3...
I am thinking 1st to 2nd week of December. I think Google and Samsung wants to release the Galaxy Nexus first in the US before they update the Nexus S.

It's for sure they'll hold back any OTA update until the U.S. release of the Galaxy Nexus. But I want it as soon as possible! I don't understand why some people flash ICS roms with no wifi for example, when the official update is so close.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Why is it for sure? Unless you have inside info that nobody else does. Besides the US release of the Nexus won't impact sales any because the nexus s isn't on Verizon anyways.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
before we know that, we'll probably have to know when GNex is gonna be release in USA
Flodb just so you know I am running koushs rom and everything including wifi is working just fine! It also has wallet included and working. I was in all your boats waiting and wondering but I said what the hell and rooted my ns and got me some ics and love the change and hope u guys do too!

Ok, even if everything is working just fine, it doesn't really mean it doesn't have some problems. That's why an official update is better than an "alpha"/"beta" rom.
Besides, this is the reason why you buy a Nexus S in the first place, for updates. After the OTA, it's custom rom all the way
EDIT: @Jeff Dunn: almost forgot, it makes sense to release the update AFTER the phone that is supposed to be the new android flagship. And it doesn't matter that the Nexus S isn't available on verizon. You know, there are other countries outside the US... but nevermind.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
But it has been released outside the US already. Which kinda invalidates your point. Regardless though we will see it when we see it. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Ok so I've read so many types for the Verizon one and an update coming out the 17 of October, my question is which one really works, latest one, least pain in the ass, anybody has one that works can you point me in the right direction?
There's a couple out, just don't know which one to pick, and do that have any bad residual? Hopefully this is in the right forum.

Is there any difference between the Nexus way and the Sprint S3 build prop way?

Kinda figured this would happen. Now if HTC was a decent company they would still release their source...but we all know they wont.
Im not all expecting to see an official release but that site is about the most vague pile of crap ever. I cant help but doubt the validity of anything posted there.

Wow that read like the old I heard from my brother sisters cousin twice removed. If there was an email why not post it in the article?
So you needed an unknown site to tell you this? You couldn't take the hints over the months with delay after delay?

Yeah, that site is not reliable by any means...
Though I personally doubt to see an official ICS launch for the Thunderbolt.

I never really expected this to happen after observing all the work from the devs on it. ICS has always ran kinda wishy washy for me. I mean it works and all, but there are definitely some performance issues and bugs no matter which rom you use. Verizon nor HTC intends to release a shoddy product. It either has to work 100% or not at all. If ICS cant run as well as GB did, then it aint gonna happen.
I wish I had a dollar for all the false rumors that have been posted about ICS, I'd buy Verizon and have enough left over to keep me in booze and hookers for the rest of my life!
I think this is one more dollar in my stash....

If that were the case though, the thunderbolt would've ran well from launch day, which anyone who had one since then will say that it didn't. Originally the battery life was horrendous and had to be fixed by an OTA.

NO ICS
just called HTC ,,, and they told me , that we are not getting ics,,, htc thunderbolt is discontinued,,,, :crying:
We could call and email different reps at HTC and we would get a slew of different responses from them all. Stuff like this no one will know the correct answer as tech support as we all know is the last to know.

So let's see if I understand this... the OFFICIAL WORD from Verizon AND from HTC is that the Thunderbolt will or will not get ICS and will get it within the next two days or later than that or never.
Does that about cover it? <G>
Honestly, I don't see what all the flap is about? ICS doesn't offer anything I need or want other than (I HOPE!) a better kernel for the Devs to work with.
Meanwhile, NuSense works for me and the BAMF leak works for me if I want ICS and, if I want Gingerbread, Infected ROM works for me and Thunderstick BB works for me along with a bunch of other ROMs I've tried.
Was at Verizon today, Reps informed me there will be no ICS for our phones...Cant say I'm surprised...my upgrade is in January, not going to worry about it .. Can't believe they state we would get the upgrade, then renege ..
If Apple can upgrade their older model Iphones for several years , why can' t our Android phones do the same.. and no I'm not switching..

Just out of curiosity, has anyone considered going back to the Galaxy Nexus? I have been debating it thoroughly these past few days. I understand that hardware wise the S3 is definitely a better performer but software wise? I'm kind of torn. Just asking for opinions is all. I like discussion and seeing what others think. I am not rooted or flashed yet if anyone asks I tried last week and ran into the activation bug that most were getting so I am back to stock with newest VZW update.

Came from a gnex and there is no way I could go back to it, and I really loved that phone. Battery life is abysmal and I enjoy not worrying about my battery all hours of the day. Definitely more development over there, but there are enough ROMs and such to keep me happy with the s3.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I've been thinking of buying one only because I still have well over $100 worth of accessories for the nexus. Around here I could find one for a little over $100.

I am thoroughly annoyed that the Nexus 4 didn't come to Verizon yet. That would obviously be my phone of choice.

While I loved my Nexus, and we still have two in the family, I wouldn't go back. The developer support is awesome, but there is plenty for the S3 as well. The S3 out performs the Nexus in just about every other category, and blows it away, when it comes to battery life.
I had a Nexus for less than a week. After 3 sim cards and a total replacement, I returned it for the S3 and haven't looked back. Signal strength on the S3 still isn't all that great, but getting better. It is still hands down better than what I ever had with the nexus.

After losing the MEID on my first S3 after flashing CM 10.1 (I found out too late how to repair and backup MEID), I thought about going back to the Nexus. The Nexus does not seem to have issues with MEID when flashing JB 4.2.1 or any other rom for that matter. The Nexus also doesn't have the silly trip counter either when flashing a custom rom. However, it has awful battery life and the radio doesn't seem as good. When I would use iHeartRadio via wifi, the stream would always cut out. This never happens with the S3.
There's an app that will reset the trip counter if you should ever have the need.

Galaxy s3 is far superior.
Battery life is the WORST on galaxy nexus.
The only thing gnexus has going for it. Is it is first in line for Ubuntu software and there is a toolkit for most, if not all versions of the gnex.
Feel free to correct me.
But I believe those features will come with time as the gnex is a year older? If not more.

I'd like to start by saying I HATE Touchwiz. I mod my TW based rom to be as non-TW as possible. But it's still there.
I would love to run 10.1 or Liquid or whatever, but as we all know, reception is an issue.
Just curious if anyone in the know had any insights on the matter? I can't believe that it's impossible to get this working...but I'm starting to (believe, that is. )
Thanks,

Tell ya what, you get the RIL source code and someone will make it happen. The way they are getting RIL as it is, is very complicated and not perfect. More of a patch than anything.

If we get RIL source as someone else stated, or some amazing dev, it may get fixed. Our best chances right now are invisiblek and aeroevan. Aero made aosp fully working on the inc2. it was incredible.
Its gonna be just like when I had my thunderbolt... Lol got sick of waiting for a nice ROM to come out and then jumped ship for the sgs3 and right after I find the TB got their RIL so if that's any indication... I could go buy a new phone tomorrow and then y'all would get a proper ril the next day ha ha ha

I don't suppose anyone is aware of any new developments on the RIL issue with our phones? I'm still on CleanROM 8.2 (Android 4.3) because of signal issues with AOSP ROMs. Last time I looked into this, my understanding was that since Samsung hasn't released the RIL for the Verizon GS3, AOSP ROMs are all using the reverse-engineering Cyanogenmod RIL, which I know from experience is not as good as the Samsung one but it doesn't seem as if anyone's working on it anymore (understandably).
I can't imagine Samsung has changed their minds three years after the phone's release and released the RIL, but with the news about the Stagefright vulnerability I'd love to get off of Android 4.3 and on to a version that has been or will be patched against that bug. But last time I was on AOSP (just a month ago I tried OctOS and AICP), I was not getting any signal at all in places where I have no trouble at all on Touchwiz.
