OTA after bootloader unlock - HTC One S

Didn't know whether this should be Q&A or General so posted in both.
I am wondering will it be possible to get JB official OTA update after unlocking bootloader.
I have CWM on device and want to know if I will be able to get update.
NO ROOT.
If not what steps do I take to get JB update when it is available.

You need to relock. Search the forum, there are at least 2 different ways.

Question of new update with root?

So is there a way for me to keep my root and update my phone? Will rootkeeper work?

Nope. Keep 1.85 or unlock your phone. Root will not work, even with rootkeeper. The previous update allowed rootkeeper, 2.20 will not.

Does it matter if I'm still on 1.73?

If you have unlocked your phone through HTC dev and have your unlock token you can lock bootloader ruu back to stock take the update unlock bootloader with previous token and root and install custom recovery again . Not sure why you want to take the update the hboot has been upgraded and breaks the ability to flash boot images through recovery you would have to manually flash them from pc.

Rooted 2.20 (flashable from recovery) is already posted in Development. Just flash that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812459
If you want to try the 2.20 radio, its posted in the radio compilation thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694012
I have no idea why people are always so anxious to install OTAs when safer and easier methods exist.

especially one that is as destructive to the Dev community as this one is.

OTA Jellybean Update and Rooting

Hey Guys
Here is my question, currently I have a completely stock unrooted One S and I just got the notification for a 'system update' from HTC. What I want to know is, if I accept the system update for HTC's official jellybean, will I be able to root afterword?
Add'l info:
Hopefully the answer is a simple 'yes', but I want to ask because I remember when I had the HTC Evo, HTC changed the bootloader when they sent out gingerbread OTA update, and anyone who was unrooted and accepted the update then couldnt root until someone found a new way around the changes, which took a while. And the reason I want to root after the update is because I dont plan on playing with ROMs this time around, I just want to root so I can use some apps that require root access and still be on a stable jellybean. Thanks!

Yes its possible.

Can you post the exact steps you made for going completely stock because i have tried several times and still don't get OTA update notification. (HTC support center stated the update for my s3 was released). Thanks.
AW: OTA Jellybean Update and Rooting
Update notification depends on cid and carrier. The HTC support are a bunch of uninformed people who always answers with standard answers..
Maybe try to change your CID to HTC__001, its the unbranded European one, this CID mostly get the OTA first.
Dont forget to be on stock recovery when flashing OTA

I think i can't change CID on S3. I guess i'll wait a little more.

Unlocking the bootloader on XT925

Hi everyone, I want to unlock my bootloader and install custom roms, but someone told me that if I unlock the XT925 bootloader I would not receive anymore future OTA Updates, It let me wondering how truth is this? I've search throughout the internet but there is not much about this matter with my phone.

If your BL is unlocked, you can still take updates. However, the charm of having an unlocked bootloader is being able to flash the updates, after the DEVs get them and tweak them. One thing, though, if you're on the latest update already, you can't unlock the BL.
i thought the patch only applied to the 926, i thought the international version could still be unlocked. i could be wrong!
here it the moto page to see if yours can still be unlocked and how to do it if it can https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b or you could just try the unlock exploit found in these forums.
If by lastest update you refer to jb 4.3 then no, this phone only gets jb 4.1.2 so far.

I try to unlock the bootloader but recieves this message during the procedure to get an unlock key: "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking."
This is the european version of Motorola Razr HD (xt925), bought from eXpansys. What do I do now? Follow the instructions at Cyanogenmods website instead?
Try using the exploit from one of the tools on here.

Probably. I think I'm gonna go with Mr.Parkinsons DroidHD Utility 2.0.
But it's just weird when it obviously should be working. Motorola...
If you have an XT925 you unlock through moto no matter which version of firmware you have. If you have an XT926 you use the exploit on whichever version it worked on.

Change OS

Is it possible to change my phone's OS from rogers(north american) to a legal Asian one? Is it safe? Is there a safe way to do it? If yes, will I get the 4.2 update from Asia?
I really want to get that update without flashing/rooting (scared hard bricked a phone once)
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
The only way to do it is to unlock your bootloader, get s-off, apply the updates manually. Applying official updates is a bit involved so if you're not confident I'd advise against it. You could just flash a ROM though which will essentially get the same result.

Are the official updates available here on XDA? and are there steps how to do this?
About applying them. Is it ok to use the one for Asia? I believe I've done this safely before I bricked my phone during flashing before.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
You can use the one for Asia but you're gonna need to unlock your bootloader, get s-off, get SuperCID, and root anyway to do it. If you're gonna do that you might as well just flash a ROM. Flashing a ROM is much easier and you get a better result. You won't brick if you don't do anything stupid.

[Q] Installing CM/Kitkat based roms

With an AT&T branded HTC One X on 4.1, should i root it now and flash basebands+kitkat roms, or should I flash 4.2.2 first?
also, are there prerequisites to update to 4.2 roms coming from 4.1?
If you take the update you won't be able to unlock the bootloader afterwards so you should do it now. There are prerequisites, check out the Evita FAQ thread in my signature.

sigh...can someone post (or guide) me to complete procedures to go from stock AT&T 4.1.1 to this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603
It's so irritating when one gets used to another brand (LG) and comes to HTC with completely different file names/programs
edit: nevermind. Can i get s-off without root? + still locked to AT&T. i wanted to follow this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2628920
You can't get s-off without root. Did you read the threads I told you to read?
Sent from my Evita
I read half. Lol. Then I got tired.ugh.I attempted to see what would happen when I asked HTC reps for help.I tried factory resets but still no at&t update.sigh.life.

You're not gonna get anywhere if you don't read and educate yourself. Plus, the rules of XDA state that a user must search thoroughly before asking for help, so I'm much less inclined to assist someone who is attempting to take the easy way out by just asking instead of searching. I even gave you a specific thread to check out, it doesn't get much easier than that.
Like I said though, if you ever want to unlock the bootloader and root your phone, you do not want to take that update.
