NFC to change wifi calling preferences? - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

I have been trying to find a way to program a nfc tag to switch my wifi calling preferences to wifi when I am inside a building. I am on stock ics, rooted. I have Tasker, but it might be out of my league...
I looked in the nfc section, now I would like to ask my fellow blaze owners if anyone may have a solution.

No offense meant, but why? Naturally if you're inside with wifi, you would prefer wifi, and if not then not. Wifi calling prefs are pretty good stock

NFC App for Wi-fi Calling
I'm not sure if we have different problem for the same solution but what I'm trying to do is to tap the NFC chip with my phone to turn on Wi-fi calling when I enter an area, especially in a low to no reception building.
Obviously, I am connected to the Wi-fi of that building so that solves my reception issue for my phone.

"The free calling is applicable to the Android phones that have the Smart Wi-Fi app pre-installed and pre-configured for T-Mobile."
But there are a lot of things available after rooting that are app related and tmobile signed.

So I called tmo and the guy "added" this wifi calling feature to my phone.
I don't know how this magic works and I don't know how to test it because I can't find the wifi calling app, the one I copied from the G2X crashes on launch so I don't know....
OK I just called tmo and I was told the following: the nexus s supports this feature. There is no app to control ON/OFF. if they enable it on your account, then whenever you're connected to a wifi network, you're calls will go thru that feature. I don't like this because sometimes the wifi signal is so weak I can just see problems. I'll wait until there is an app for this.
Can someone verify if this true? You won't need the wifi calling app ??

Agreed..and there's no way just the apk without the lib files would work..wifi calling is only on branded handsets.

Can't believe we don't have hack to get this app to work with nexus s yet specially now that MT4G and G2 have gingerbread as well with wifi calling.

The problem is the radio interface layer, a proprietary blob supplied by samsung.
It does not support the auth calls made by the kineto libraries in order to switch to GAN. Without switching to the gan ril wifi calling is not possible.
Ginger bread is not the issue, the libraries have all been made to work, the apk works. The problem lies in the ril. Until a ril surfaces that works on the nexus s and supports gan (something kineto said is unlikely) progress is halted on wifi calling.

Right on! Good to know the actual reason.
(and I have so many words to look up in this post).

Wi-Fi issues still present after the Gingerbread update:-(

Wi-Fi issues remain after the Gingerbread update...:-(
When I connect to a wireless network and try to stream or upload something my phone starts to lag. Now I cannot connect to a Wi-Fi network and have to reboot my phone. This is the exact behavior before the update...nothing has been fixed in this release ... I sure hope LG fixes the issues before T-Mobile pushes the OTA.

Personally never had this problem. I would revert back to stock and try and get a replacement phone.
This is my third replacement and all of them had this issue. It would work fine for a while and then it would start acting up...

really 3 replacements with that same problem? idk maybe its ur wifi at your house?
It is not my wi-fi, the phone does it on other networks and I've used my wi-fi with other devices-no issues...

I had wifi problems.....until I switched to cynogenmod.
I was about to get a sensation, but cannot consider giving up the benifits of cynogenmod. The additional features it adds, although small, all add up to a much better user experience, not to mention that it fixes the phone.

Which security type are you using on your WIFI? Maybe it's an issue with that specific protocol. Try changing the protocol back and forth for test purposes. It's possible it's one of the newer types of security and they really just aren't aware of a problem yet.
Also double check the firmware for your device. I understand that you say you've had it on other wifi and other devices work fine on your wifi, but I've had XBox's and computers that had problems with the firmware I was running but other devices worked fine.
I had the same stuttering problems as you using wifi with stock Froyo. The phone was close to unusable when streaming or downloading anything. Most of the time if wouldn't even switch from 4G to wif which was more annoyingi. With the gingerbread update wifi has dramatically improved and the switching is well under 10secs. Cm7 or anything based on it never worked for my wifi network sadly.
I have this very same problem. Turning on wifi I would still see the 4G icon and data activity. This has got to be so annoying after upgrading to gingerbread. Also now I have a new issue with the browser. This is issue is when the screen locks then unlocks the browser would automatically go back to the previous page. I mean why so many issues with this phone?

Any advice on improving WI-FI calling.

WI-FI connects and every thing
WI-FI related works great except WI-FI calling. I have the router in the middle of house. The call connection is fine at first then it acts like when a cordless phones go out of range static and echo.

I use WiFi calling all day without this issue. You might try telling your router to use a different channel, and/or looking for sources of interference.
That sounds more like internet connection quality to me.
I would try making sure nobody is running torrents or other high bandwidth stuff at the same time.
I had no issues with WIFI Calling on CM7. I recently switched back to the stock rom and have had jitter issues and poor sound quality. Hope this helps.

+1.. get the free wifi analyzer app.. then switch your router to the channel with the least interference.
I try that on my next day off.

In the WiFi Calling app settings, check under Connection Preferences to be sure you have WiFi preferred for calling selected, just in case something changed it. Also, in the setting area, maybe under advanced, there is a menu option for log errors. That might help point to the problem and a solution.
Problem with wifi calling
I have a LG G2x 2.3.3 (rooted) running Xboarder's Stock Tweaked OTA Gingerbread build v1.2.2 and faux123 kernel (thank you great work) just have one problem that I have not been able to solve or find on here, my wifi calling will open and say enabling and stays that way (will not connect to wifi calling) any suggestions?

[Q] NFC does not work

Hello,
I have a stock rooted Blaze 4G. In the Settings, I make sure that NFC is enabled, but it does not seem to work. I downloaded a bunch of NFC apps, and none of them could pick up any RFID tags (e.g., parking meters, work badge, US passport, etc). The battery states that it has NFC.
After I rooted my phone, I got rid of a lot of T-Mobile bloatware, so I am wondering whether I could delete something that would affect NFC.
I do not know if it is a software or hardware bug and whether this is a bug at all, so I would really appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thank you.
im running tweaked 1.6 and nfc works for me... you ha e to enable in settings and use an app but i can send bookmarks and contacts and data between phones at least.. i havent found any tags to scan yet...
if youre thinking that you might have dumped some apps that you need, i would reccomend flashing tweaked, it is unbloated and smooth....

I tried Tweaked v1.6, and the NFC still did not work I could still try to flash the stock ROM, but I really doubt it would work either. I guess it is a hardware defect, and unfortunately, I cannot bring it back to T-mobile as I left them a while ago. I do not really use NFC often (apart from SF parking meters), but it is nice to have a fully functioning phone.
nfc on android phones only works with a frequency of 13.56 mhz so perhaps the tags you are scanning are on a dif frequency

The US passport works on 13.56 MHz frequency, but my phone cannot pick it up. Parking meters clearly say NFC, and my phone cannot pick them up either, so I have to enter the long number manually.
my phone doesnt even have NFC
my battery says near field communication on it, and the option to turn it on is in wireless and network settings... did you by any chance change your battery?
i have deffinately sent stuff between phones, but havent found a tag to scan yet...

Yes, the battery is stock, and it says Near Field Communication. I have not tried to use it to communicate between phones, but that is not what I would use it for on a daily basis anyway.

Wifi wonkiness and maybe smartactions?(solved)

So at first wifi seemed good, range is better than my epic, speeds good as well(throughput anyways) but I've noticed a lot of disconnecting lately and having to toggle my wifi on and off to connect a lot. I'm not sure on this next part but I believe it all started when enable smartaction features. I tried toggling, dhcp versus auto, no difference. I'm thinking that maybe there is a cache somewhere in the driver that is not clearing properly creating network handshake issues, but that is a speculated thought based on very little knowledge. A little extra info, I have experienced this on both my dual band wifi N netgear at home, and a single band wifi G netgear at work, I'm stock no root(yet). I am semi noob when it comes to networking but I do have enough knowledge to setup securely a wifi network and do basic troubleshooting. Any thoughts on this? I am gonna try disabling all smartactions as well and see what fruitation arrives from that.

lol, don't think it was necessary to go to those lengths... Just disable any SmartActions is the suggestion.
I have a few night time / low battery smart actions - and I guess I never really use wifi during those periods. During the day when I do use wifi and the smart actions are not in use, I don't have any wifi issues.
Interesting theory for sure, especially since it is a new and perhaps only partially tested Motorola product. Would be nice if this is a workaround, at least there's something to look into .
I don't think it has anything to do with Smartactions....the couple of times I've experienced Wi-fi disconnects I never had any of those running. It seems to be more of a seemingly distance/threshold sort of thing to me.

I've never really experienced any disconnects that I couldn't attribute to distance...
Some here have said that wifi disconnects within feet of the router and VERY frequently. I can't say I've ever experienced that on this device...
My wifi issues were definately not range based, but I have yet to experience the issues I was having before since disabling the smart actions, but I will play around with renabling when I have some time and see if I can narrow it down, I have a feeling it was the sleep profile and I'm pretty sure I left it at defaults other than times.

Through the STOCK phone dialer put in ##106157#. It will reset a lot of wonkiness and do another hands free activation, updating ports, PRL, etc on a level more in-depth than the System Updates option.

Not related to smart actions, but maddening nonetheless...
Go to "Settings" --> "Wifi" --> "Menu" (Bottom right) --> "Advanced" --> "Show Reminders" - uncheck.
