Hey guys i have a problem with the bootloader of my chacha. I just bought this phone because my legendary hd2 broke. I've tried serveral times to unlock my bootloader of my chacha via the htcdev method but without any luck. Everytime I try the ruu it gives me the 170 error code which indicated my phone isn't connected to my computer.
I tried changing usb ports without luck and installing htc sync, but the device doesn't get recognized by eather the ruu or htc sync. So does anybody know a solution so I can root my phone?
BUMPY
Bump!
Try skipping RUU Update step, maybe you don't need a hboot update. It worked for me and others as well.

I am not saying to skip unlocking process, just the step about RUU Update and then continue unlocking.
Just hit 'proceed to step 1' and folow instructions.

You cannot do anything until you unlock the bootloader or s-off your device.
Apparently the problem is within HTC USB drivers.
If you have successfully installed HTC Sync and/or HTC USB drivers on your workstation, then enable USB debugging option on your phone and try to connect the USB cable to USB ports on your motherboard (at the back of computer case).
If this is not working, then probably the best option is to use somebody's else computer with Windows XP 32bit to unlock your device.
Or try a hardware reset on your PC. This will let your PC recognize the phone as a new device. Or try to fix drivers when you plug it in. This can be done from the config screen (Not sure what's the official name for in english windows... Only worked with dutch versions...

This is a brief tut on windows:
Download adlx' small fastboot tools: link
Download adlx' recovery (best one is 5.0.2.8) - couldn't find link, search it in a development section.
Download superuser zip: link - it is in the attachments - su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip.
Extract fastboot and recovery. Put recovery.img in the folder where your fastboot tools are. Navigate the command prompt to the fastboot folder. Connect your phone in fastboot mode and type this command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
This will install recovery.
Copy su zip on your sd card.
Then just flash superuser zip through recovery and you will have a rooted phone.
I rooted my ChaCha
Hi Guys
I rooted my ChaCha by using unlock from HTC and installing CWM and superuser. I installed Link2SD too. What I assume now it is giving me a all the space I have on sd card for installing the apps???
Nope... if you search the forum, there are plenty of guides that explain how to set up link2sd

Download link of the RUU file:
http://www.multiupload.com/L3PMXNYAAY
RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.13.707.4 (PD98IMG)
This is a modified version of the ROM. It contains no firmware for the phone. If you want to update RADIO and FIRMWARE please download the RUU first and flash it.
I did this changes to the ROM:
1. ROM is rooted
2. Busybox installed
3. Changed the languages availability to european languages:
ENGLISH, GERMAN, FRENCH, ITALIAN
4. content is untouched
5. Changed the file and folder Date to: 06. January 2012 03:13 AM
6. Now the problem with the unformated cache issue should be solved. When you install the PD98IMG.zip the CACHE partition should be formated by default.
7. PD98IMG contains the 4ext Touch Recovery 1.0.0.7
Hope you enjoy this!

where is mrt69?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA App
People, the Rooted version is for devices that has firmware version 3.13.707.4 (Asian DHD) and contains no firmware inside as what the mrt69 has said on his first post. That certainly means that your device will not boot if you flashed ONLY the Rooted version.
If your current build number is not 3.13.707.4, you will have to flash the RUU first. However, DHDs that do not have asian ROMs might get error while flashing. Those DHDs might have needed to be S-OFF first before RUU can be flashed. After flashing the RUU, put the rooted version file (PD98IMG.zip) on the root of your sdcard (not inside any folder) then boot on to recovery then accept the update.
I have done this and worked for me.
sharing my own experience to this stock root edition:
Step: 1)if you using stock rom please downgrade it with AAHk and get the S-OFF after u complete go to(it will wipe data so backup before u do this)
Step 2: download the original ruu above u need this because the stock rom root doesn't contain the firmware and after u finished downgrade plug in ur usb cable, usb debug enable and run the ruu and wait until finished
Step 3: before flash this ur dhd must be S-OFF then download the stock rom root then flash it at the bootloader and then you're done!
I'm downgrade from stock rom now i'm using this stock rom root edition so please enjoy it!

@darnvil,
mine is stock 3.13.707.4 without any root/S-OFF. can I flash the rooted ROM?
p/s: I can't S-OFF or root due to the phone is getting "USB Device Not recognized" on my PC. done reinstall HTC Sync, driver, restart on my PC. even flashed back the stock ROM by using the 1st page ROM (using rom.zip from RUU and rename to PD98IMG.zip) but it still can't be detected by the PC. hardware id's from the USB shows as USB/UNKNOWN, no strings of id, no whatsoever..

Hello all,
I read a lot about the Venom Viper ROM in the last days and I really like it. Would like to install it on my One S.
After reading the installation guide and watching the installation video I still have one open question.
There is one point where you have to use the HTC Sync...for the fastboot.
There is my problem... I use Linux on my PC and HTC Sync is not available
I tried using it with Wine but I did not work.
Can I use a other program or is there a way to do the installation without HTC Sync (Drivers)?
Would be nice if somebody can help me with that. Thank you.

means that there is no way to install the rom with a linux pc or I don't need the drivers for fastboot?
has anybody an idea?
what's your hboot, if under .13 just flash rom with proper wipes as mentioned below
you don't have use htc sync, just need proper fastboot files on pc
i don't know linux--but if you can fastboot the boot.img with linux you should be ok
wipe system as part of wipe and don't wipe initially and wipe again in aroma
after first boot, go back to fastboot and erase cache as mentioned in OP Install Instructions
thank you for the reply.

how I do get proper fastboot files on my PC?
Sorry for my question....I am quiet new to the ROM thing .....but I like the venom viper
you get your hboot version by booting into bootloader
however there is an app on playstore called Flash Image GUI that eliminates the need to fastboot kernels, recoveries. there are posts on this and a link to devs site somewhere at end of the roms like cm and venom. forget where and tied up now.
otherwise follow the venom OP page flash instructions
as far a fastboot files they may be on one of the how to root threads or thru installing htc sync. but again i don't know about Mac's
good luck

hboot is the bootloader. You enter hboot by holding volume-down while booting the device. You can enter fastboot mode or recovery mode from hboot.
Fastboot binaries for linux are in the android sdk for linux.
developer.android.com/sdk
In ./platform-tools/ which should be in your $PATH
-Jobo
Edit: And no, you dont need drivers.

connect your device to pc via usb
put the recovery.img in the folder where you have adb and fastboot files
open in that folder a command window and do
adb

adb reboot bootloader(it will boot your device into bootloader)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
edit:rename the image file as recovery.img if it is not already(maybe that's why you stucked)

I do all my flashing on windows 7 64bit without any problem.
Ditto. I do all my dirty deeds on 64-bit Windows 7. You may also want a quick way in; Grab OS_Hacking's BIOS tool (don't flash Gingerbread bootloader - just the BIOS and your choice of recovery softwares), and then flash the flashable Superuser zip (ARM version) - just copy Superuser zip onto phone first before flashing unlocked BIOS and recovery so you can do away with that quickly.
And, do one thing first; Kill the UAC in Windows 7 - it usually cause problems.

Follow this guide at section "How to root" (first post) step by step, be sure to write a GB recovery first and not write the GB bootloader (if you did that you can write the ICS bootloader again from OS_Hacking's tool), reboot and then install Su_Bbox_1.20.2_gazhead_signed.zip via recovery, reboot and check for "SuperUser" app.
You can restore the original bootloader and recovery flashing Stock_ICS_btldr-recov.zip at the end but is not mandatory.

Hi All
Now a proud owner of HTC One mini (uk) but am having issues trying to unlock bootloader, root and install custom rom.
for some reason my PC will not recognize my mini in fastboot mode . i have re installed the usb drivers and even tried to connect my wifes HTC one which i have previously rooted ...but it will not connect to either of the two.
I would be grateful if the community could offer a solution or advice, Thanks
oh forgot to say pc running windows 8.1
Edit: I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 on the portal. it has ADB,FASTBOOT and DRIVERS needed . Not tried it myself as reverted to windows 7 however, many users confirming that it works on win 8 & 8.1.
I hope this helps, any thanks is given to the developer "Snoop05" as i am just posting the link.
cheers

Search around to see if you can find a updated version? Let me explain to you how I did it. First, I unlocked my bootloader. Second, I downloaded the twrp and magiorom r3. Third hold shift and right click on the flashboot folder that you downloaded from htcdev and click on the open command window here. Rename you twrp to recovery. If your twrp file says img on it then try recovery.img, if not then type recovery. And on the cmd type flashboot flash recovery.img. Then you go back to bootloader and go to recovery and follow all the steps on the magiorom link. Don't forget to thank me. And btw, I didn't have to download any of those adb files. You root your phone when you have twrp. It'll ask you if you want to root. Say yes!!!!

Say yes!!!!
