...then again, I might just be being a complete moron and absolutely wasting a lot of people's time. I'm going to try anyway because everytime I Google my multiple problems I seem to get back to this website. Yes, I watched your noob video - I laughed a lot, and unfortunately and unintentionally I feel like I'm going to tick a few of the boxes at the end of it... If you can rescue me from my situation, I'll definitely make a donation towards the upkeep of your site (As long as you have a donation link.)
I have a HTC Sensation XE (with Beats Audio) and it being a Sunday afternoon I thought I would have a crack at rooting and applying custom firmware to me phone for the first ever time. I bet you can see where this is going. I downloaded the SDK Manager, HTC ONE X All In One tool, and the latest Cyanogen for my handset. I DID NOT S-OFF MY PHONE BEFORE JUMPING RIGHT IN FOR I AM AN IDIOT. So I rooted the phone, and all seemed to be going well, I had the Stock ROM, I believe they call it? But it was rooted as confirmed by Root Checker. AT THIS POINT I BACKED UP USING CLOCKWORK. I then got ahead of myself and tried to download the new Custom ROM. After getting aggrieved that the ROM was stuck on 86% consistently with ROM Manager I downloaded it to my PC. Put it onto my SD card. Went into recovery mode. Installed .zip via SD card.
This is where problems began. Once the installation was done I restarted my phone and got caught out by the little blue man, and I believe my screen was stuck in bootloop, where it just continually showed me his image - and the movements around him kept occurring, it didn't freeze. I tried to put the boot.img on from the .zip where I had downloaded it but it came to no avail, it still didn't boot past that point.
I was aggrieved and so restored my phone to the point I said I had backed up. Just after the root of the stock ROM. Then when I tried to boot this up, it got stuck at the Beats Audio symbol in similar vein to how it was stuck on the little blue man.
I turned my phone off, tried to wipe everything using 4ext recovery that I placed on the phone at this point. My All In One tool also stopped recognising my phone, constantly saying "error: device not found" when I tried to do something which it was not doing before the root. Furthermore, when I plug my phone into my PC, it doesn't offer me Removable Drive storage, but it does make the pinging noise which notifies me that the device is recognised. Now after all this, when I boot the phone it is stuck at the HTC screen with a white background and I don't know why it is now halting here as opposed to what it was earlier, could it be something to do with when I was trying to get the all-in-one tool to recognise my phone I tried to reflash recovery of 'Stock'? I really am upset about this and regret even attempting it as I am in love with my phone and can't really live without it. Please help and if I get a successfully, rooted phone I will be very happy and PROMISE to make a donation towards the site of what I can afford.
So please do me and your own site a favour and help me
BRIEF POINTS OF NOTE
ROOT SEEMED TO WORK FINE UNTIL ATTEMPTING TO PUT CUSTOM ROM ON
CUSTOM ROM WOULDN'T BOOT PAST BLUE MAN SCREEN AT FIRST, THEN BEATS AUDIO SCREEN AND THEN HTC SCREEN.
MY PHONE IS S-ON, UNLOCKED, PYRAMID PUT SHIP S-ON RL, HBOOT-1.29.0000,eMMC-boot,Mar 2 2012, 18.14.34
PC IS NOT CURRENTLY RECOGNISING MY PHONE AS A REMOVABLE DEVICE IN THE SENSE THAT IT WON'T ALLOW ME TO PUT ON ANY ITEMS.
I DO HAVE A SPARE, ACCESSIBLE SD CARD AND DO NOT CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO THE CONTENTS OF IT. IF THIS IS USEFUL.
Please. Help me. Thank you
don't panic.many as you had that issue.it is easy
from 4ext recovery enable smartflash and then immediately flash the rom
you should be fine
If it still fails to boot after reflashed with smartflash on, get boot.img from zip, place it in your fastboot/adb folder and flash it manually from fastboot: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Look for Asskicker's guide in General section. "flashing rom with s-on and Hboot 1.27+"

Unfortunately, this hasn't worked for me. I did this...
- Went onto 4EXT recovery.
- Went to tools.
- Clicked on 'Enable Smartflash'.
- Ensured it was on.
- Went to 'install .zip from SD Card'
- Found the Cynagon MOD.
- "Finding update package... Opening update package... Installing update... Install from SD Card complete."
- Rebooted phone.
- A pending update to your boot partition has been detected. Your ROM will reboot once [and then it reboots]. The first time it came up with this though. It said something about how there had been an error.
- Got stuck at the HTC screen again.
I'd just like to reaffirm that before something happened (I believe it was when I tried to flash to stock recovery), my phone was getting to the Beats Audio/Little Blue Man Screen. Now it's getting to the HTC screen.
That donation to the site is still in promise!

This also didn't work for me. It appeared to run entirely successfully. I rebooted the phone using 'fastboot reboot' and it still got stuck at the same screen.

Hi there mate!
What I would recommend you to do is running an appropriate RUU for your device, ( i would recommend GB, because then you can S-off very easy), and then re-run the whole process. If you run a GB RUU, you can gain s-off with revolutionary. And the best part, the RUU can be run in bootloader, so it doesn't matter if your ROM does not boot. I can send you a link once my internet gets faster (im using all my bandwidth for source-building lol)
Please keep me posted and feel free to ask any questions
Best of luck !

Thank you for your helpful paragraph If you could send me the link for that RUU, that would be great, but I do have a couple of other questions. What is an RUU? I assume GB is Gingerbread, but is that the OS that I am on? What will the RUU do? I really stepped out of my depth trying this haha!

RUU stands for Rom Update Utility, and it is an executable (.exe) file wich is ran from a pc with a phone connected in fastboot. The RUU is meant to restore all partitions on your phone
Sent from a muffin inside a muffin using muffintalk.
OK try this.
1. Reboot into 4ext recovery.
2. Wipe everything except sdcard.
3.enable 4ext smart flash
4. Reflash Cyanogenmod.
5. Flash gapps add-on from Cyanogenmod thread.
6. Reboot and wait up to 10 minutes.
If this does not work take your Cyanogenmod rom and on your pc extract the boot.IMG file and move it to your adb folder then repeat but add
8. Fastboot flash boot.IMG using adb while in recovery.
Open your cmd and CD to your ad folder.
Issue the command " fastboot flash boot boot.img " with the phone connected.
9. Reboot and wait up to 10 minutes

Btw the only RUU that will work on hboot 1.29.0000 devices is the 3.33.401.153 one IIRC. It's also available to download from my FTP - here

Just when I have everything ready to try this, I am getting '403 Forbidden' on that link you just sent me. What do I do to get that link working?
Also, is it as simple as plugging the phone into Fastboot USB mode and clicking the .exe file?
Elliot,
Any help possible with this one, guys and girls? The last post I made about the 403?

Hi,
Normally, I try to troubleshoot things myself without bothering others, but I'm in need of help this time. The tricky part is, I just bought this HTC One S from a stranger, so I don't have its complete history. With that said, here's what I need help with. The phone came with Pacman installed (v18.0.0). But, I would like to install this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082451
It's basically a stock ICS ROM (the lite version mentioned with stuff removed). In attempt to do this myself, I found this post on here:
Yes the only other solution for you involves rooting. It is possible to go back to ICS by rooting your phone, going through a bootloader downgrade, hexediting a particular partition, then running an older compatible RUU... Its all possible, but requires some time to understand and do. And definately requires a few wipes of phone data in the mean time (which can be backed up through titanium and custom recoveries).
Only need to do that if you want to downgrade hboot. All you have to do is root and flash a rom, I have JB radio and hboot and run ICS Trickdroid 8.1.0.
So, I put the ICS ROM in the internal sdcard, did the usual wiping stuff (I've owned several HTC phones, so this part I know how), then installed the ROM. Unfortunately, it didn't work. When I rebooted the phone, it got stuck in boot loop. It would go to HTC logo screen with the development purpose only warning and just keep turning off and on. Fortunately, I was able to get back into recovery and restored it to Pacman. So, apparently, you can't just flash any ICS ROM over JB setup... Can someone help me figure out what I need to do to install that modified stock ROM please? I very much appreciate your help. My One S is S4 from T-Mobile.
Thank you,
GT

thats weird.. if you wipe cache, dalvik, factory reset and system.. it should be fine.
which recovery do you have? cwm or twrp? flashing the rom after wiping everything i stated before, and then flashing boot.img depending on your hboot [btw, go to bootloader and see what it says for hboot. if it is higher than 1.13, you need to fastboot boot.img.

no prob, i HIGHLY suggest you flash TWRP recovery.. it's a loot better.
2. are you trying to install a TMOUS ROM?
3. since your hboot is higher than 1.13, you will need to fastboot boot.img [let me know if you know how to do that]
4. also since your hboot is higher than 1.13, you will need to flash some partitions or else your WiFi won't work.
Let me know if you need help doing any of the above, but start out with installing TWRP first.

Thank you for such a prompt reply. Here are some of my answers.
2. Yes, the ROM I want to install is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082451
It's the light version mentioned in that first post.
3. I just read up on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752270
I think I got the idea, but just to double check, is this what I need to do after every time I install a custom ROM?
4. The partition files exist on the phone already, and I read some, so I have a basic understanding of it. But, the developer of the ROM I want to install says it is not necessary with that ROM, so hopefully that's true.
I am amazed by how different everything is from a HTC phone to another HTC phone even when they seem so similar!
A quick question. Does EXT4 exist for HTC One S? I used to use that for HTC Sensation and loved it. I'm guessing no, but I thought I'd ask.
So, to sum it up, is this what I need to do?
1. Flash TWRP recovery (please tell me how to find the right version for S4. all in one toolkit doesn't work on my phone).
2. Wipe everything and install the ROM
3. Flash boot.img
4. If wifi is not working, try the partition files
Please let me know if I got this right. Thank you,

3. Yes, since your hboot is higher than 1.13, you will need to fastboot boot.img everytime you flash a ROM, unless you want to downgrade?
3.5: like Darknites said, you will need to install drivers for your the One S if you haven't already. You can download HTC Sync, and they'll install automatically [this is needed for being able to fastboot the boot.img]
4. They do exist, but everytime you wipe before flashing a ROM, they also get deleted, but try using the ROM without flashing the partition files and see if it works, if not then flash the partition files.
5. Yes, I'm pretty sure EXT4 exists with the One S, but am not 100% sure, maybe someone else can confirm this?
Lastly, here is where you download TWRP:
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/100
scroll down and download the link for the S4 VARIANT, but you need to have drivers installed before doing this. and you will need to fastboot the recovery, since the download is an image: to do so, go into cmd, type cd c:\ (whatever your fastboot folder is called) and enter
then, type: fastboot flash [name of recovery, which is the name of the file you downloaded).img. Should take about 2 seconds to flash.

Thank you, dr_rick13 and other kind members who responded to my call for help.

then, type: fastboot flash [name of recovery, which is the name of the file you downloaded).img. Should take about 2 seconds to flash
recovery is missing in that line, so it should be fastboot flash recovery [name of recovery, which is the name of the file you downloaded).img
I know it was just a typo or forgot to write it, but I wanted to point this out in case some other user finds this thread and follows that instruction.
All in all, thanks for everything! You guys rock!

we do not have S-OFF yet, so until we do.. people with hboots 1.13+ will need to flash boot.img. But HTC still hasn't said anything about when we will get S-OFF or if we will get it.

Its just the way HTC wants us to do it and maybe they feel it be better for us but mostly them. There is a way round it but you have to downgrade the Hboot.

Thanks. Is there any downside to downgrading the hboot? Why don't people do that instead?
When I had the Amaze, the recovery 4ext had "smart flash" which did this same thing because it was s-on

Because of Linux and the fact you brick it to do it too. We meant to be getting 4ext but don't know when.

This seems like out would make things so much easier. I'm not always around a pc when wanting to flash things. If I use this, I should be able to flash away.
But what about resorting nandroids. This doesn't work with that. Hmmm
Just trying to wrap my mind around it

Yep very good app I did use it in till I downgraded.
HTC Sensation 1.27 stuck at boot screen after rom change
Yes yes, and another noob reporting for duty after screwing up the rom proces, it took me about 6 hours today after dozens of guides, broken links, outdated software and offline sites to get my phone rooted and i thought, well, a custom rom would be nice too.
So i tried the rom for Sensation from codenamelungo.net copied the zip on my sd card, installed it from recovery and now im stuck at the htc screen and being the noob that i am i ofcourse did not make a backup and have no clue what to do now
If someone could explain to me in simple words how i can fix this?
My recovery is CWM v5.8.0.9
*** UNLOCKED ***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.27.000
eMMC-boot
I did the:
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Wipe Cache Partition
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
formatted everything.
Tried relocking it and factory reset but all it does is then booting in recovery menu nonstop on every option i choose.
Another day:
Been on the internet again since i woke up and this is driving me insane, i read many posts with solutions but ofc they dont work for my version or phone damnit. I always have this kind of stuff, why didnt i have the Sensation where stuff go easy, at this point i am hoping to get it to stock again and not ever gonna try flashing custom rom.
I just finished up a couple readings about RUU files which ofc is also driving me insane.
My cid is HTC_e11
version-main 3.33.401.55
So i googled and typed in what was suggest on a post on this forum RUU Pyramid 3.33.401.55 and the only result it links me to is this website in showthread.php?t=1919969
I dl the zip file and what is in it, not 1 .exe file while all posts talking about restoring through ruu talk about a ruu.exe
Pfff, ive read so many posts now on this website and other solutions over the internet i can't even think straight anymore so gonna take a break, was really happy getting a smart phone but i enjoyed 30 min so far ><
Surely hope some1 can assist me with this dilemma

As expected, still on bootloop.
I already unlocked it again so i did step 2
when i type adb device it doesnt find anything even though i am connected with usb fastboot
adb server is out of date. killing...
*daemon started successfully*
List of devices attached
Blank, so no devices
So i did the alternative and typed fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sendig 'recovery'<6116 KB>...
OKAY [ 1.491s]
writing 'recovery'
Okay [8.510s]
finished. total time: 10.004s
Then when i reboot i get stuck in the HTC screen again
Ah i see what is done, im in the 4ext recovery menu now, i did the format you said but i cannot find the smartflash, can you point me out where i need to enable that?

This is not a big issue. Just remember that every time you flash a new rom 4ext should say "A pending update to boot parti...........". All roms will work fine.

You should be able to flash any Rom based on your current firmware. Regarding roms the only difference between s-on and s-off is that you cannot flash boot.img from recovery.
For s-on, either you need smartflash, or a manual flash of boot.img via fastboot flash boot boot.img
This is applicable as long as firmware is same.
Happy to help.

Hi there,
Sorry for my bad english. I've looked for a answer but I don't understand all of solution :/
I'm on a mac and I have a Sensation Xe (Europe) S-On.
When I've change MIUI to Cyanogenmod. My mobil phone change the rom and bug with the kernel O_O ?
Now I got the bad Kernel for the room :S and the phone doesn't boot (stop at bootscreen).
I got the same problem if I try to install a new room by the boot loader.
At this time I want to back on the factory room and Kernel for my facility.
But the .exe of RUU doesn't work on mac (of course). And when I try on a windows; I connect the phone to the computer with boot tools but it's not work.
Sorry, I think it's not the first time someone ask this question but too much result to find the good way to do that

You need HTC driver for the phone to work on windows.
Anyway, the problem is that since you're S-On, you need to flash the kernel manually. You place it in the same directory as adb and fastboot (I don't know if you have it on mac, I guess that yes, or else use windows), and when booted to fastboot (on the bootloader), type the following command:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Where boot.img is the name of the kernel of the ROM (it's inside the .zip of the ROM).
Alternatively, if you have 4EXT recovery (and if you don't, I suggest you get it), enable smartflash, and then you will be able to flash ROMs regularily.
Good luck.

Hi,
It's not possible to use 4ext, because the phone doesn't boot. he's stop at the boot loader.
I've try with adb for mac but I think I don't do the good command to flash by adb the kernel
ADB does not work, you have to use fastboot! Just follow the instructions by astar26. Connect your phone to your PC/mac and type "fastboot reboot-bootloader" and then "fastboot flash boot boot.img"

Hi, I'm trying to flash a Cyanogenmod ROM for a friend on his HTC Sensation Z710e (rooted, bootloader unlocked) - my own phone is an Xperia Ray so I'm not too familiar with the process. Do I need to flash the Kernel before I flash the ROM? What's the best way to do it? If it's a matter of following the process you outlined above then I'm afraid I can't really follow it - I really need an idiot-proof 'how-to' guide I'm afraid, like I said, I'm a total noob when it comes to the HTC Sensation.
Hope you can help.

astar26 explained how it works. If the sensation of your friend has 4ext recovery use smartflash, if twrp use htc dumlock then you don't need to flash the kernel seperately.

To flash a ROM on the Sensation:
Go to recovery
(Wipe. Then) flash the .zip of the ROM
That's it. There is, however, a catch for S-ON devices. HTC hasn't allowed flashing of /boot from recovery. This means that, for S-ON devices, the kernel cannot be flashed.
The best way around this is to use 4ext recovery. It has a option called Smartflash. That will flash your kernel even if you're S-ON.
(Some roms, like ViperS 3.1.x require an additional kernel flasher as SmartFlash doesn't work there).
The other way is to manually flash the boot image (kernel). Go to fastboot USB (this is NOT ADB), and execute:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
The boot.img is your new boot image.
Thanks for the reply!
We've already tried flashing the ROM as normal [using ROM Manager] but it doesn't work.
1. How do I know the device is 'S-on?' or not? Can it be changed? What's 'S-on' anyway?
2. Do you have a link handy for that recovery system you mentioned that allows flashing of kernels?
3. I haven't a clue how to manually flash the boot image - with my Xperia Ray I just use the Sony flash tool and fastboot. Can you give me an idiot's guide to doing this?

Ah, I see:
Power off and pull out the battery. Press Power + Vol down. Once the bootloader screen comes up it'll either say S-ON or S-OFF.
For flashing ROMs S-ON use this (also includes 4ext recovery). Read about S-ON here.
Just use smartflash (see link in 1). For the special cases I mentioned in previous post (no smartflash), just see the ROM's thread for S-ON flashing.
Note that if you want just want to flash ROMs the above method is good. For S-OFF, either use this, in case you followed above steps, or use this, in case you want to S-OFF first. S-OFF is not needed for flashing ROMs.
htc sensation z710e wifi problem
Hello friends!
Two months I have a problem with my HTC SENSATION! The problem is due to wifi,I read many forums about this problem, I tried many solutions, but without success! I assumed that the problem is due to "wifi country code". I tried this solution "WiFix Manager", but did not help.
I tried this option http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469428,
because my phone is unlocked with HTCdev, back to factory rom 2.3.3 hboot 1.17.11 to be able to achieve S-OFF method revolutionary s-off.
I did everything, but after a while the problem still occurs. The only way to fix it is by re-install the Rom again. Most often breaks when I restart phone while is connected to the wifi network, when my phone starts, this wifi error appears.I can not write scripts or fix them, so I can not do this option: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368501 . My phone is from England, Orange UK is the operator of which is purchased,I do not know if there is any difference!? And now my phone is rooted, revolutionary s-off, got super CID, 4ext recovery....
What else do I need to have no more this wifi problem?
I'm not very good at Development or haking, so if someone can explain to me what to do to solve my problem, I would appreciate it!
I just want to install "Revelation 1.0.3" and only use it! I am from Bulgaria by the way.

I think I finally found the solution to the wifi problem!
The solution is in this post:

Now I use Android Revolution HD 7.3,sometimes the problem occurs again, but now I have a solution!
Just repeat the procedure described in the post and wifi working again.
When you delete a file "wpa_supplicant.conf", I have to re-enter all the router's password which I linked, but this is not such a big problem!
Hi all I was given a HTC One XL telstra version it had no OS not a thing on it and I have managed to flash rom and TWRP but have no idea where to go from here I can use fastboot and also mount the SD card via TWRP now how do i get an OS onto it and what am I looking for exactly?
Ok so you have TWRP recovery? If so just download a ROM on your PC, then enter recovery on your phone, connect your phone to the PC and go to the mount menu then mount usb storage. Copy a ROM to the phone. Enter the wipe menu in recovery, perform a full wipe (cache/dalvik cache/system/factory reset). Enter the install menu in recovery, locate the ROM zip you copied to your phone, swipe to install. If the phone is s-off you can reboot now and it should boot into the OS. If you're s-on you need to flash the boot.img via fastboot, so reboot to the bootloader. Locate the boot.img in the root of the ROM zip on your PC and copy it into your fastboot folder. Issue this command:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Once that's done you can reboot the phone and it should boot into the OS.

if i use a stock telstra rom i need to relock the bootloader right? but if i do that it doesnt allow me to enter TWRP so i should use some other rom?
No, if you use one of the stock Telstra ROMs found within our development sections you don't need to relock your bootloader at all. You just flash it in recovery and away you go. If you're talking about an RUU it's a different story, with more preparation involved. There's really no need to run an RUU at this point though so just stick with the Telstra ROM (in zip form) and you'll get the full experience.

Oh, something I did want to mention. You're not limited to using Telstra ROMs, there are some great ROMs with great features here in our forums. We're very lucky that there are some great devs still providing us with ROMs even though the device is over 18 months old, they're keeping this phone relevant. Just make sure you stay within this device forum and you'll be super duper. Here are the links to our two development sections:

One XL Original Android Development (mainly aosp)
