We all know that the animations/transitions for JB on the infinity are a bit choppy/slow. A possible fix I found is with Nova Launcher. In Nova settings/ look and feel/app animation, select Ice Cream Sandwich. Of course this will change the animations to ICS but I find them way better and faster than the stock JB on the Infinity. Also I feel the tablet snappier. Please share your thougths.
My animations after the JB update have been so much more smooth than ics even after just first installing it install. Even after factory resetting and not using Nova launcher for the little bit of time I had no issues with the animations at all in fact they seemed to improve slightly after the factory reset. If you haven't done that I would suggest doing so, that may help.

I believe this is quite subjective part. Some feels nearly perfect, other don't. Just like in video game some complains couple frame drops here and there, and others don't care at all.
One thing that may be helpful if you can is to show us a video clip of before and after so we know what are exactly the benefit.

I'm just saying that with this method the animations/transitions seem a lot smoother. You can try it and let me know, it would be helpful.
My animations are smooth, but web browsing is useless on website with more than a few pictures on them. I can literally wait 3-4 seconds everytime i scroll, before the graphics catch up. Bought mine a day ago, still undecided on wether to just return it.
It work!!! I was so worried. I had a friend buy this for me in the US as UK amazon is still not available and when it is, is at a ridiculous price. Got it 2 days ago and the first thing I did was to update the firmware which was available OTA so I didn't get to see ICS on it. JB was so bad. This Nova option is great. Let's see if an update fixes the issues. cheers.
I have a TF700T and a Ipad3. The iPads claime to fame is internet content consumption and that is where its still ahead of every one else in fluidity and smoothness as well as speed of loading a web pages content. With that said my TF700T with JB as its OS is close to my Ipad3 in these functions. Its far better than the TF101 and TF201 that I have had. If all your going to use a tablet for is web content then go and get a iPAD3 and enjoy. If however you intend to utilize the TF700T for all of its tremendous other features than just accept the 3-4 seconds wait and be content. My Ipad3 has nothing to conpair with my TF700T on the file management side as well as internal memory capabilities. JG has speed up every aspect of my TF700T to the point that its seeable in ease of transitions from screen to screen, application loading, use of applications. It is fare and above anything Asus has put out in the Transformer series before. Web content is only a single feature of the TF700T. The hardware features that Asus has brought into the TF700T tablet make it way more versitile than my Ipad3. I am on my TF700T 4-6 hours each day so much so that I have two dock keyboards. One connected to a AC outlet and fully charged ready for use and the other one married to my tablet. Again, if your looking for the ultimate smoothness and fluidness of only web content IMHO buy a Ipad3 and leave the TF700T alone because you will never be satisfied. If however you can find value in all of the many additional features that Asus has designed into the TF700T tablet and dock keyboard than accept the slight delay and wait patientely until Asus is able to make the OS as smooth and fluid as IOS is at this point in time.

You're so right. it's much much better. thanks for the tip. Dolphin browser is even running faster and loading pages faster.
i prefer the stock launcher instead of nova or apex. Somehow the stock launcher is all around smoother than other launchers now that we upgraded to JB. Yes, the JB animation is semi choppy but nova or apex does not perfomance like the stock launcher.
I believe one of the reasons this is true is that after-market launchers run on top of the stock launcher, so there is a double memory usage.

You can always freeze the stock launcher.
Yup, but then if something breaks in the after market one you're hosed without a launcher....well, unless you're conversant with adb shell commands.
No need for this. Go to development options and set all three animation speeds to 0.5. Your tablet will begin to fly...

I'm wondering if anyone can weigh in on how their device performs out of the box. I got mine on Saturday and unlocked it and am thinking of installing some of CM9's work because I've always like what he's done on the Droids, but I'm noticing that this tablet, for lack of a better way to say, is awful.
It freezes all the time. When you get into a the browser, whether it's stock or chrome, the pages are unresponsive to zoom in and out. I mean ultimately your action will be performed, but I've seen it take 5 seconds. It's actually unbearable. My D4 NEVER has this problem EVER and the tablet should blow the D4 away.
How does everyone else's tf300 work? And will custom ROM's improve this awful experience? I don't want to have to take it back and I won't if there is potential somewhere that I'm not realizing. I have 10 days left to decide and right now, it's a no-go. So if anyone can share their experience I'd love to hear it.
I bought my tf300 yesterday, and couldn't be happier. I unlocked it and installed aokp this morning and things have been great. Haven't noticed any lag viewing webpages, youtube, music etc. I've been very happy with this tabIet, as it's my first one. I believe aokp allows you to overclock to 1.5ghz (obviously it drains batteries a little bit more) but even on the stock asus rom, i encountered no lag whatsoever.
as shocking as it might be to know..i have not yet rooted the tf300t. i've been using it for over a month now..i got it the week that it came out..and i've happy with it. every once in a while you will see a "freeze" for now reason. It does seem to freeze more on startup because it is trying to do several things at once (like update gmail, corporate account, and sync up other things). But after that it is really smooth.
I was talking to another friend about this and he managed to hunt down someone else having similar issues to me and Asus declared their product to be defective, issue a new one, which works "flawlessly". I guess it's back to Office Depot I go. I refuse to let Apple win.
Hopefully you get a working one, I'm enjoying mine quite a bit. The aokp rom is quick and fun to use, and I refuse to ever own apple products. Go android!
I bought mine about 2 weeks ago , and it freezes one or 2 times , but in general works great , didn't unlocked and changed to custom roms yet but will in future , but for now i am loving it

Have it now for 6+ weeks. Stock/rooted. Works like a champ. Good tablet apps are the issue, not the tab. No way you should have the issues you do.

Got mine 3 weeks before. unlocked it and rooted from the second day, i am really happy from the latest update the us.30 for me. i dont experience any lag or freezes or force closes at all. The performance is better but it always depends on the owner.
I found useful to install an app called autostarts (needs root) that prevents apps from being loaded at any time u use your device.
For example i cant understand why google play store must open when i remove an application. With this program i prevent things from loading at startup of the device, so i have a quicker startup time and i know that no other apps are in use when i dont need them and only working is the app that i use.
U can see what apps are runnig at any time with a task manager or something relevant.
So as i say before the performance of a device depends also on the owner.
I bought 2 tf300's, one for me and one for my girlfriend. Mine has Cyanogenmod 9 on it, hers has stock (.30 firmware).
I will say that mine is noticeably faster, Chrome doesn't lag hardly ever, hers freezes up a lot more.
You should be careful about some apps too, Facebook in my opinion is the worst. That app will cause your phone/tablet to lag like nothing else, as soon as I uninstalled Facebook on my girlfriends tablet it was like a brand new machine (though still not quite as fast as CM 9)

I was having this issue also and was getting pretty fed up with it.
However, after doing a reset on the device it works perfectly now. Resetting the device formats the primary partition and takes it back to stock (keeping firmware updates). You can get to this option by turning the device off and holding the volume down button when powering on and it should be the second option. This stopped the force closes and lags with my TF300T
I know that asus has loaded some bloatware on the tablet which cause it to lag occasionaly so i used seanz rom. It's so fast it's scary it really takes advantage of the power of this tablet.

Yeah. Seanz' Hydro rom makes stock appear laggy and unresponsive my device was running slow before the. 30 firmware update.

The lag is mostly happening due to the I/O scheduler in the kernel. We probably won't see the true performance on this tablet until we get a custom kernel. The source is on ASUS's website but no kernel hackers have this device. The lag only shows when mounting and un mounting SD cards, writing to SD cards/NAND and downloading/updating Play store apps.
The only fix I know so far is to go find a SIO scheduler from the Transformer Prime's forum and install it. I did that and the lag went away but looking at benchmarks for I/O schedulers (noop vs SIO), noop has lag but higher scores and SIO has very little or no lag with lower scores.

i have use JB in a few devices already, Galaxy nexus, Galaxy S3, Nexus 7, Asus prime TF201. I can tell you right away that this version is the worth of all. the opening and closing animation of apps is jerky. Not smooth at all. The task manager to close app is always butter smooth in other devices when you scroll up and down, here is jerky. Not sure if this might add because of the 1920x1200 resolution which is 4x higher than 720p and require more cpu power. This is kind of disappointed, i really starting to think that this resolution is to much for a tegra 3.

Are you on the balanced or performance mode? From what I understand the modes that save battery can csuse this with JB very noticeably sometimes.

balance and performance. both setting perfomance about the same. tab on the setting icon, or browser icon, the new animation for JB is suppost to be butter smooth but in this version of JB for our TF700 is jerky. scrolling and pinch to zoom seem find for a jb rom. Can wait for zeus to grab this and do his magic.

Ye. I find this quite disapointing to. Its not smooth at all. I think the full hd res is to much to handle for the tegra3
From my units standpoint it is not rooted and never has been the upgrade has made it much faster. I now understand what 'buttery smooth' means. No issues at this point with the download, upgrade, app loading or functioning afterwards. Wifi works as does gps. I use Boat as my browser and its significantly faster. Not quite as fast as my iPad3 but pretty close. Scrolling web pages is without lag now at least for me. Thank you Asus for a GREAT upgrade.

I'll let you in on a little secret. Get simple image live wallpaper. It causes no lag (multipicture lwp sometimes does) and it has no cropping either. You can even set different images for portrait and landscape modes.
I had similar jerkiness and slowness after the initial update. After reading the TF201 forums I was ready to do a factory reset right after updating. Since then, I've restored all my apps and widgets, regained root, downloaded lots of things in the background while using the tab etc.. I'm happy to report It's buttery smooth. If you haven't done a factory reset after upgrading, do yourself a favor and give it a try.
Also, I had an interesting bug. My SD card wasn't recognized until after I rebooted the 2nd time after my factory reset. It's working fine now.. it even seems to be reading/writing faster than before.
positive - we can now take pics while recording with the stock camera.
negative - the stock camera has a bit of a hiccup.

I don't get any reloading problems. Multipicture lwp gets this problem. Simple image wallpaper does not.
Was the Screensaver option always available under Asus Customized Settings? I dont remember it being there.
Pretty cool that the notifications now show the sender and subject for outstanding emails.

If you run into problems with apps and performance, I suggest to perform a factory reset. That should clear things up and insure a clean Jelly Bean experience. Also since JB just droped this morning, don't expect it to be smooth. The new OS needs to settle before you can truly see a difference. Just wait at least 24 hours before you praise or complain about your experience. But for the meantime, I applied a cold boot after I noticed a bit of sluggishness. Seems to have fixed that. Ill probably do a factory reset if my apps act up though.

Proper procedure for this needs to be clarified.. can anyone who has performed a factory reset and maintained root chime in?
I just bought this device as a toy and a test as a computer tablet. I found it to be slow and buggy. I do notice that in browsing heavy pages like the real facebook page it IS faster than my Galaxy Note 1 but in almost everything else, the Note is faster and snappier. I have disabled lots of apps, resett it, no change. So my question, I guess this one is really worth rooting and installing a good rom Im used to the Cyanogen to my phones, is Cyanogen working good for this tablet?
Im still marveled by the quality of the screen, I dont think I ever have seen such a good screen! If I just now could get it working somewhat near as good as my Note 1 I will be a happy panda

My experience is that it is NOT slow and buggy.
I could compare it with an iPad3 last week and I think they are very close.
You can't compare it with a note because due to the much higher resolution the gpu has to do so much more computing. That is why the nexus7 is faster than the tf700 due to it's smaller screen AND resolution

I'm on stock rom with browser2ram and force2gpu enabled. My table is very fast. Just remember before you flash a new rom, just do factory reset(data wipe 3 times). Also root is good (allow you to install rooted app like Titinium backup, SetcPU etc..), but don't unlock unless absolutely necessary (void your warranty), or you have time or like to play with custom rom.
Ok, sounds like I will root it then and try to tweak it, Im not satisfied with the speed with it sofar. Its seems stable now after I resetted it, before the reset, it crasched 2-10 times a day. My idea was that since the GPU and CPU is older in the Note, The Tegra 3 would be able to handle the FullHD resolution but it doesnt seem to .. I definatly want a ROM without the garbage crap
I plan to use it to write alot on, can you recommend a good office app? Or a browser that google docs work good with

Yes, all games, videos, pictures, and documents and apps are function normally. There are 3 most popular office apps:
1. Documents to go (this can view google docs also. Paid version only)
2. Kingsoft office
3. Polaris office (currently polaris has a bug with fonts).
My stock browser can view google docs fine. I think stock browser is the best in my opinion (have tried boat, chrome, mozilla etc...)

The Infinity's performance is not CPU bound and is not due to the higher res. It's I/O limited. The CPU is plenty fast enough. As soon as the memory config requires the system to start hitting the /sdcard memory, the system will be subject to random stuttering/pausing because the sdcard memory is the cheapest, slowest, crappiest flash RAM ASUS could find.
This is why stuff like browser2ram is seen as a huge boost for people that do a lot of browsing and it is also why the stuttering varies from user to user/session to session since the RAM situation in the system varies from config to config and moment to moment during use. Some users who's config has a lot of free DRAM and do not frequently use stuff that hits the sdcard partition hard, see almost no performance issues with the tablet.

I guess I'm going to do the downgrade to ICS .30\root\then try the rootkreeper deal back to Belly Jean.
I really don't want to go thru all this, but if I want to keep chipping away trying to find a better Android experience then so be it.

Thanx for the info! That was my biggest thoughts about the Infinity, "is the RAM enough?" and it isnt but then Ill just have to multitask less and try to tweak it. And perhaps dont install multipicture wallpaper.. but thats one of the things that I love about my Note

Hmmm, I've found mine to be quick and virtually bug-free, but then again I didn't buy it as a toy.
A little tweaking and I wouldn't call it slow. Even stock its a solid piece of equipment.
Apply data2sd mod built for CleanROM 2 after installing the ROM. You'll need a fast sd card.
Research the threads. The blob for data2sd for that ROM was just posted today.

I own both the Infinity and the Acer a700 and after the a700 got JB earlier today, I will say that the Infinity lags more than the a700 (and I was very happy with the Infinity). Colour me shocked.
The only time I really ever experience any lag or sluggishness is when browsing. I will be rooting once there is a method discovered for Jelly Bean on the Infinity. I'd really like to give browser2ram a shot. I've heard it does wonders for browsing.

Before i say thing, I will list the important things about my tablet - C7 model, Has been repaired for speaker issues & Jelly bean 4.1.1. I'd say TF700T is a powerful device, It lacks the software for it. I use to notice quiet a bit of lag on ICS but after upgraded to Jelly bean, It's faster than ever! I would even compare it to iPad 3:laugh: I'm running Stock Jelly bean with a bit of removing apps here and there.
I Don't know why everyone is having problems with such a decent device.

I you guys would read the Development section (read the newer threads, please) you would see that CleanROM2.2 has pretty much completely eliminated the lag and i/o issues. It's reason enough to root and unlock. This tablet is a beast when it is allowed to begin to reach its full potential.

Im rooted and installed CleanRom2.2 this morning and it is indeed faster and smoother i will try the tweaking you guys suggested later. It still lagged when i downloaded my spotify playlists while i was downloading youtube movies tho

I think CleanROM 2.2 is the route I'm going to go too...that's if I can figure out how to do it without asking a bunch of dumbs**t questions.

If it was really laggy and something that i can't deal with i would unlock but since it feels flawless, I might stay. I don't give a crap about their warranty but i do care for my device (brick)

It's the total opposite for me. ICS was fast and virtually lag-free. The latest updates to Jellybean my Infinity lags like nobody's business. Very disappointing. Looks like root'n'rom time.

My TF700t is still stock. One thing that bugs me is how slow it is! Choppy, loads apps kinda slow. Will rooting and using a custom ROM speed things up?
Also ---- I read on here that custom ROMs put the navigation buttons in the middle? Is that true?

Rooting allows certain apps that will speed the tablet up. Installing a custom rom will increase the speed of the tablet tremendously,however to do so you must unlock your bootloader which then voids the warranty on your tablet. If you install a 4.2.x rom yes it will move the navigation buttons into the middle, however not all roms are 4.2 yet. When ASUS releases 4.2.1 for the tf700 they will have it optioned to switch between layouts, which will be implemented into Cromi when it is update, is what I guess will happen. So you will have the choice. But you wont be forced to use the new layout.

If you root it, you can install Browser 2 Ram and that will help with the browser lag.
To install a custom ROM you will have to unlock the bootloader, which will void your warranty -for good!
And it can make all the difference...
I was frustrated and disappointed with the TF700 until I unlocked and flashed CROMI -now I adore it!
Each custom ROM is slightly different. What you are referring to may be the 4.2. launcher which puts the soft key buttons in the middle.
There is no 4.2. stock or custom Rom for the TF 700 yet. But the 4.2. release for the TF 300 lets you choose between the 4.1. and 4.2. launcher. I would expect it to be the same once we get 4.2.
But then... I would not touch 4.2. unless it's been CROMI'd

Won't be too long. My bet is, Asus releases 4.2. for the TF700 within the next 3-4 months. Then the only question is what the bootloader will look like and how long it will take sbdags and _that to create a CROMI version...
I'm not in a hurry. Entirely happy with what I got right now
And actually.... I'm so contend right now, 4.2 is going to have to have some serious candy to make me move....

If the best they can do is that multi-user capability, I will probably stick to CROMI 3.4.4 as well -- at least we have very little known bugs whereas a new 4.2 stock ROM might bring unknown new and fresh ones. Ugh. Another boatload of work for sbdags and _that...
One thing rooting does is give you the authority to define which apps load on boot (startups). This is huge since you can disable most of these and get back tons more RAM after boot, which is the main reason this device is so glitchy in my opinion - lack of sufficient RAM. Phones run strong in 1GB RAM. Tablets do not. Because you typically load so many more apps on the tablet, all the RAM is gone by the time you boot. And when its gets low on RAM, all hell breaks loose. Not to mention the lag, if thats not bad enought, but 25 apps just can't run together properly in 250MB of space. Now try 260 user apps like I have and you'll agree you have to root.
After rooting and tweeking I now get about 500MB of free RAM after boot and use RAM booster (by Root Uninstaller) to manage and autoboost my RAM regularly. Its now fast, reliable, and runs all week without ever random rebooting like it used to do all the time. Also, Dev Options, enabling "Force GPU rendering" is highly recommended.

I'm going to go ahead and add to the countless times this has been said aready, just for the record, and for the future readers of this thread.
1. Free RAM is wasted RAM.
2. I had a lot of apps installed, but I didn't get past the 130 mark. Who the Hell has so many apps in use anyway? This is an invalid remark, im ny opinion, for it has absolutely no bearing on the device's capabilities, but only says something about the owner. With that kind of number of apps installed, you make it impssible for ANdroid to manage your memory.
I haven't rooted my device yet but when you root it you can use programs that allow you to speed your phone up (battery drain)

I used to play with benchmarks, trying out Hunds' & _that's various kernels. But, as most people say, benchmarks don't matter in the long run.
I used to match some of the same benchmarks posted in those threads, but things would still feel slugglish over time or during transitions.
I don't want to wait a few seconds for my keyboard to pop up every time, of for me to switch back to the home screen.
So for me, I want a tablet (and phone) that I don't have to reboot every day. I want it to wake up instantly. Keyboard pop up instantly. Multitask smoothly.
CM11 & Omni seem to do that, while Cromi-X seems to lag no matter that I try or whatever sbdags & co do to tweak the hell out of 4.2.x. Sure, a the IO lag has a lot to do with it, and if I'm downloading a big file or have something installing in the background I will always have lag with this tablet.
But, for now, I'm on Omni and pretty happy. If not, I'd say CM11 is very smooth too.

I have found all the cm11 based ROMs very laggy so far. They don't seem to be optimised for the tf700t yet. Maybe need a bit more time?

I've made a lot of improvements in CROMi-X 5.3 to combat the lag when something is using the disk in the background. It's a lot better now than it was on the last few versions.
There's never going to be a definite answer on this. How do you define "lag"?
What are you looking for in your rom?
How do you use your tablet?
You just have to try them all and decide for yourself...
I'm always like: ???????????? when someone reports lag on CROMi-X. I just don't get it, because I don't have it.....
I tried CM 10.2 and CM 11 on this tablet and I found them to be slower and (to me more importantly) a hell of a lot buggier than CROMi-X!
But again: I guess not only beauty but also lag and performance is in the eye of the beholder....

@sbdags did an amazing job with 4.2. So did hunds and _that. No disrespect. Just after running 4.2 for a long time, I'd like to run something newer as long as it's responsive. I don't care about benchmarks as I said before.
I'm hoping sbdags have the chance to do the same with 4.3 or 4.4 if Asus releases it for the 700, or 701 and then back port to the 700.

Newer and frankenrom'd doesn't translate into "better" IMHO.. But everybody rolls differently...
sbdags released his beta for the TF701 on 4.3 already. There won't be much porting back though - Tegra4 framework is just too different. But I bet the roms for the Tf701 will be even better because he has so much experience with tweaking the Asus roms

Have you watched the Google's 2012 I/O keynote where Google introduced Android 4.1 and Project Butter? Google has clearly defined what they perceive as lag in Android as situations where the UI's frame rate drops below 60 fps and you can clearly see stutter in animation, which is why Google also introduced Systrace to profile app performance. If the frame rate drops significantly below 60 fps (which I always encounter in the stock app drawer), you will see things like transition effect stutters when swiping between pages or the laggy fly-in effect when you open the app drawer. If you have a Nexus 10 to compare, the difference in terms of frame rate is so apparent that it is almost impossible not to notice. If someone had a high-end camera that can capture 60 fps or 120fps videos like the one Google used to demo Android 4.1, we could easily capture all these instances of lags on videos and had a more scientific discussion. To me, the Nexus 10 is the gold standard of 10-inch tablet performance and I have yet to see another non-Nexus 10-inch tablet (besides the iPad, if I may) that deliver the same level of performance, regardless of ROMs being used.
Moreover, not to discount the work that the xda community has put into improving performance, there are simply too many ways that you can make an Android device drop frames here and there. Even powerful devices like the Note 3 can fail to deliver constant 60 fps UI frame rate. I'm sure with the right combination of widgets and apps, you can also make the Nexus 10 stutter. Or simply, you can just fill up 90% of the internal storage and watch how the performance degrades. To be honest, it is much harder to believe that there is no lag at all, regardless of devices and ROMs that you use. Even Google said that Project Butter is not perfect and still an ongoing effort.
Lastly, workload can also dramatically affect performance and make instances of lags more noticeable, so your usage pattern is a factor. Personally, even on CROMI-X, my tablet could become really laggy if I used it for my work like the other day, even with only 3 apps in my recent apps list: Adobe Reader to read a big pdf file (a 100-page annual report of a company, with a lot of text and images), the stock Browser to research relevant information with around 10 tabs, one being facebook desktop site (seriously, the facebook desktop site is really terrible on Android), Merriam Webster Dictionary app to look up certain words, all in landscape mode. In that scenario, my tf700 performed just like a big slide show.

I am in the same boat as you, which is why I am very excited to see more of those Google Play Edition devices. I highly doubt that there will ever be a Google Play Edition Transformer tablet, but it would be fantastic to have one.

I switched from CROMi-X to CMB (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577165) a couple of days ago and I am really happy with it.
@lj50036 has done a great job and so far I haven't had any issues/sluggishness although it is based off CM11. The dock works like a charm as well
The only thing that did not work was being able to use ART on CMB for me.
