Text messages don't come through - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

It's not the typical no notification issue. The texts actually don't come through at all. I've had my service reset, but it still does it so it's not AT&T. This is exactly what happens.
"I got this phone recently and I am frankly pissed off. I will go 3-4 hours without receiving any texts and wondering where they are (they are very important and I need the texts asap) and RANDOMLY I my phone will take 10 seconds of constant vibrating and say I have 30 new messages.
This is the best part: My phone says these messages were sent FOUR HOURS AGO. And I am just now receiving them? I am not in a zone that has network problems. I am in a big city. Every other AT&T phone is having ZERO issue with this, which is why I know that it is an HTC one x hardware problem.
How am I supposed to get this fixed? Do I go get a new phone? "

Is it rooted? Unlocked??? What firmware you have???/ROM
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app

Everything is original. Not rooted, stock ROM. Not unlocked. I actually just got the phone on Monday. But I don't want to exchange it because I will end up having to transfer all my music/personal files over again.

If you've made no changes to phone and it's purely stock - I don't think we can offer you a lot of help - it's more than likely going to come down to a carrier/sim or hardware fault...
The only suggestion I have for you - do you have the same issue with your sim in another phone? If so I'd be leaning towards carrier/sim if not possibly faulty hardware.
Good luck!

i'm facing the same problems. I believe it's ATT, but I'm not 100%. This happened on two custom roms and stock (cleanrom and viperxl)

Now I'm starting to lean more towards AT&T. I replaced the phone because ATT told me to... now on this second device I'm having the same issue. idk what to do.

This is really getting annoying. I'm having the same issue with the new device.

Same issue. I've found WiFi is what triggers it. Turn WiFi off and it works flawlessly. I'm not sure what the connection is. I'm also running 2.20, obviously stock phone.
My guess is AT&T is choosing to drop cell network coverage when you're connected via wifi to take the load off their network. The problem is that texts are done through the network. I've even missed phone calls due to this; goes straight to voicemail.

Just noticed the same issue but only over the past couple of days. Sometimes I will send a text and a handful of outdated texts will flow in right afterwards.
P.s. I have only noticed this when connected to wifi also.

Still no solution from HTC or ATT.
ATT has given me 3 new SIM cards, and 2 new devices. All have had service reset and factory resets done. Nothing has worked. I'm at a loss now. I'm going to go to ATT and raise hell tomorrow... This is costing me money in business. I can't afford to have SMS come in 3 hours late when I'm working on deadlines.
mine happens all the time, not just when on Wifi

Follow up: texts have been flawless since that 24 hour period this past weekend when on wifi.

I would do some polite complaining. You should at least get a bill credit of some sorts. I can deal with device quirks and imperfections but service failures piss me off.
Keep us posted and good luck.

I have been into the ATT store that I purchased the phone three times now. First to buy it, second to let them know about my problem. They sent me to the ATT repair/insurance/warranty place where they sent me to another retail store. That's when I got my second device and SIM. I went home and it immediately happened again. I have since been on chat with ATT every single day, then went into the store again just to have the lady tell me that all she can do is give me a new SIM card. I'm getting pissed off.

I know that if you keep having issues with the same phone model, they will eventually offer you a different device. I would be persistent but calm. They can sense honest frustration and if you are fair with the rep, they will want to help you. I wish I could call for you haha.

Oh definitely. The best thing is... since I'm a personal trainer, I will often have an hour to kill. There's an corporate ATT store less than a mile from my gym so I can swing by every day.
A thing about the people on the phone/online chat, they told me their policy is that they can't do anything about it within 14 days of the purchase date that I have to go to the store I got it from.

Nope. The issue happens everywhere. I was in far south Texas this weekend and still had the issue. I live in central Texas/

Well, I'm on my third device now. Though the sales person was very polite and sympathized with me, his manager told me they aren't replacing it again, and if I have any more issues I need to go to the warranty and repair center (who I've already been to, and sent me back to a corporate store). I told him exactly what they told me and he continued to talk down to me saying they wouldn't do anything about it.
Worst part is, he talked down to me as if it were MY fault. I felt like saying "Listen asshole, if you just gave me a phone that worked right the first time, I wouldn't be here every damn day trying to fix YOUR issue." I'm getting fed up with dealing with ATT. If it comes to it and they refuse to help me with THEIR problem, I will be going to another carrier. The lack of customer service is complete bull****. Three devices, 4 new SIM cards, 4 factory resets within 8 days and you're STILL trying to blame it on me?

If you send a text message to yourself, does it come through right away?
Also, did you get a new contract with a new number when you bought your Onex?
If so, I wonder if your friends etc are using a (+1)dialing code before your area code an getting delayed.

Yes, it will come through right away. But, my problem is intermittent. Sometimes texts from other people come through right away as well, and sometimes they are delayed by up to 2 hours. My number did not change, and I didn't renew my contract.

So phone works OK, system is pushing, sure seems like a carrier to carrier issue or one where someone has requested delivery receipts and its hanging system.
I use to see this years ago, got into habit of sending myself a text every day to check system, it was a carrier to carrier issue in my case and was corrected.
Some have issues when the long distance code is added an others when its not.
After that many phones and sims, I don't believe its the phone but lean to carrier or long distance digit not being liked by your new phone from the SMS service, either on or off sounds like problem via the sender.

[Q] Re-Activating Charge

I just got my Charge in the mail today and went and activated it, but then realized it was a little to early. I had to switch back to my old phone (Fascinate) and do some updates and now I want to switch back.
When I switched back to the Fascinate it said that I had 90 days to re-activate the 4G phone on the existing SIM card, otherwise I would need a new one. Anyway, so far I haven't figure out how to re-activate. Anyone done this before? Verizon Customer Service is closed now otherwise I would call them up.
Thanks!
You have to get a new SIM card. It says you have 90 days, but the SIM is invalidated seconds after you switch from 4G to 3G. I've done this numerous times.

Wow, that really sucks. Do they "give out" the SIM cards in the store or is it something that has to be purchased? I am sure that I can get CS to get me another one for free, but that means I have to wait 2 more days.
Seems weird that they tell you that you have 90 days when you really don't.

Yeah, for whatever reason, VZW just won't activate the same SIM twice. I've only gotten them to give me a SIM in store once, and that was when they made a mistake and invalidated my SIM(they swapped the wrong phone to the wrong line). You can easily get another one for free on the website. Just go about the process of activating the Charge, and when it asks for a SIM, choose the option that you need a SIM. I buy them 5 at a time from a vendor on ebay =P
Mean Bro Greene is definitely wrong. Technical support -- that's the second tier of people you talk to, not the first, despite what the menu tree says -- reactivated my SIM card and 3G/4G service after I did the exact same thing (had to switch back to the Fascinate to update the firmware).
You just need to get your call escalated to technical support -- the first tier of support operators can't do it. The second tier can.
And you can actually reactivate the SIM for calls only without speaking to anyone, but you won't have data service until you call technical support. The automated number is (877) 807-4646.

One thing I learned about Verizon is if you don't like the answer you get once, keep calling back until you get the right answer for you. Yesterday I called to deactivate a line on our acct which had matured and no longer using. During the conversation she informed me that we could have switched the primary line to any other handset a long time ago. Last guy I talked to months ago told me I needed to wait until I could deactivate the line which was primary at the time. I could go on and on. Pretty much every scenario I have had to call about, I have gotten different answers each time. Its kinda sad.

I get the same thing, which is why I called twice about the SIM reactivation, two different people told me it was impossible. Then again, this was in March and LTE was relatively new.

When ED01 Froyo first released for the Fascinate it took days of calling to get someone to listen to me and do a DMU/ESN reset on their end. When I finally convinced them and it fixed it instantly(for the time being) I asked the guy to please make a memo so others would not go through hell.

That could definitely be part of it too. Verizon seems to be absolutely horrible at training their support employees about new policies and procedures. Heck, it sounds like the OP had an easier time than when I did it, and my call was only a couple of weeks ago...

I totally agree, and in all my years of hacking and swapping devices back and forth multiple times in a day I learned one thing. When you call VZW to get help for activation or data issues NEVER EVER talk to the person who answers the call. Always request to get transferred to a Tier 2 or Tier 3 tech support agent on the line. They at least know what is up as 90% of the others are clueless.

Yup, that's what I do. The thing I hate about Tier 1 with Verizon is EVERYTHING can be fixed with a "factory reset".
Even network issues apparently lol. I was having issues here in my work area a few months ago, and I refused to do a factory reset since I knew it was a tower issue as I'm familiar with RF Engineering, frequencies, etc. I finally got ahold of a T3, and got a network ticket put in, two days later, I have LTE again.
T1 is more customer support than anything.

[Q] Rogers - 2nd handset, Preparing SIM message

My first One X was showing this "Preparing SIM" message periodically and I eventually had the phone replaced when connections to Rogers service would drop out. In order to reconnect a reboot was required.
My 2nd device although stays connected to Rogers service just fine but I am still getting the "preparing SIM" message ever now and then.
The Rogers support people could not say anything about the message but I did have them put it on my record that I am experiencing it in the even that there is a problem after the initial no haggle swap period has passed.
If you are also having this message come up I would suggest you call into support and have them note that you are having this issue. Not that you will need to have the phone replaced but in the even you do, it's there on your account.
Has anyone else seen this on their phone?

Hey i used to have this problem. When i was using Sense.. Try using Apex Launcher and let me know if you have the problem still.
I've got the issue from your first phone. Been wondering if it's a hardware or a software issue. Seems to happen more often when I am farther from toronto, getting a worse lte signal. Could be anecdotal though. Don't know if I should exchange it for another one

4G LTE Issue

I got a Verizon Galaxy S III from a friend. When he had it the 4G LTE worked just fine. When I put my sim card in it found my wireless account no problem, I even went on the verizon site and after the phone popped up as my new device I "activated" it (whatever that does)... But I get no 4G. I'm in a 4G LTE area, I used it on my old Galaxy Nexus all the time. In my Mobile Network settings under Access Point Names there are two avaliable options, 'EHRPD - Verizon Internet' and 'LTE - Verizon Internet', the default is EHRPD but I changed it to LTE, still have no 4G. There is no "preferred network mode" like on the old Galaxy Nexus where you can choose between CDMA and LTE/CDMA. I searched around and downloaded the app Phone Info, the preferred network is set on LTE/CDMA/EvDo... HOWEVER, if I change it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA or LTE only or LTE/WCDMA I get 4g service! But then I have no mobile network to place calls or text. When I change it back to LTE/CDMA/EvDo it drops 4G again and goes back to 3G. I don't get it! Anyone have any ideas?
Well since his sim card worked fine, it may just be yours. I can't say get a warranty replacement because vzw doesn't replace third party traded phones. Stingy bastards.

So it could be the sim card even though I can force 4G to work by itself? 4G still works on my Gnex when I pop the sim back in. If it was the sim is that something I could get a replacement for from vsw somehow that would fix the problem?
Is there any reason that unlock/root/flash other roms/radios would fix the problem?
Well I mean I'd hope it was the sim, but it's probably not. I'd say try your best to fix it with the tools at hand because lord knows if you call Verizon and try to get a warranty replacement, you're gonna be on the phone for a while.

A SIM card ain't gonna fix it.
Call VZW and complain. The more of you with ****ed up data speeds/signal issues that call in the better for the rest of us that have the same issue. VZW won't look at it being a "common problem" because supposedly the issue isn't wide spread enough. I've been through two phones, others as well. A quick look through the forums and you'll see lots of data/connectivity problems.

The device may still has a warranty- Samsungs warranty.
More to the point- the device is ACTIVE ON HIS ACCOUNT! He's having NETWORK ISSUES. Some people's S3's have NETWORK CONNECTIVITY PROBLEMS (I am affected by this issue.)
Did you read my post? Exactly where did I mention swapping out- warranty exchange, etc? I didn't, so don't put ****ing words in my mouth.
I simply stated that the OP should complain about network issues. Network issues which VZW is responsible for. Network issues that VZW asks Samsung to fix. Network issues that users are having problems with. Network issues that VZW doesn't think is a big enough deal to ask Samsung to fix because not enough people are CALLING IN ABOUT THEM! They're just waiting for an update to fix it. An update which won't happen because VZW doesn't think it's A PROBLEM!
I'm not arguing with you and hijack this poor guys thread. Fact of the matter is verizon will tell him to get a new sim, then they will say they'll have engineers investigate the towers he connects to. The engineers will chock it up to terrain or weather, just like they always do. VZW is in this game for the money, and they'll get it. They know you want the best service, and that you'll pay for the best despite terrible CS.

You need a new SIM. I went through the exact same thing.
Go to a Verizon store.

I get the same issues, i called Verizon (*611), was on the phone trying to troubleshoot the phone for 30 minutes. If turning of and on the phone does not work, then out could be the Sim card. Also, they did something at their end and now i am getting 4g while waiting for the new Sim card to arrive by mail.

Had the same issue, new SIM card fixed it.

NO SIM 100, my patience, 0

Upon returning home from a business trip, the dreaded NO SIM error started creeping up on my phone again. 2.5 weeks in Salt Lake City, no issue. Back in TN, horrid NO SIM errors abound. I called Verizon tech support today, and he noticed I already exchanged the phone for a new one, along with a new SIM. One thing he mentioned, it looked like I was "roaming" in the system, so he reset some routers (his words) after having me pull the battery and wait a couple of minutes before powering the S3 back up. Sure enough, on the drive home from work, the phone had a NO SIM issue... so I unplugged the battery for the rest of the drive home. Once inside, I plugged the battery back into the phone, everything looked hunky dory, so I went about my business... and sure as s***, the phone gave me another NO SIM. So I contacted Verizon again, and she offered me any Android phone as a replacement. Now, I don't know if you guys have looked at the current line up for Verizon's Android based smartphones, but it's basically the Moto Razr or the Samsung Galaxy S3. I have not found a case that I absolutely love, so I have invested in quite a few so far, plus additional charging cradles, car mounts, etc... frustrating because I love this phone, but I use it for work, so I can't deal with this issue much longer.
If you had to select another phone to replace it, what would you go with? The new RAZR M? (lose NFC, smaller and crappier screen, etc) The RAZR Maxx?
Thanks, in advance.
No other phone on Verizon can touch the S3. Only phone that can be comparable is something that is not out yet.
Then when it comes out, they will tell you it is to new.

Might hold out for the Note 2. Testing something currently... wondering if Go SMS is the issue, seeing as the problem seems to creep up with some sort of combination of texting and calls. Will update tomorrow.
Did you apply the latest update? It should have updated automatically OTA, unless you are running custom unlocked rooted whatever ROM. In that case go to dev section and download latest radio and flash it. Should fix that damn no SIM problem.

Yep, already flashed last week. Tech Support told me tonight they have been fielding calls post patch showing it didn't fix the issue. If they are offering me any android of my choice, they are probably as flustered as I am. Almost went to a Rezound, a step backwards, I know, but I am at wit's end. Will see how the next week goes.
Sorry to hear. Try and hold out for a fix. I came from a rezound, and while I loved my HTC phones, this s3 is great. Too different to compare.

A fix is being pushed out today to address this issue. S3 is bar far the best phone you will find out there...
do you have a source about that?
Verizon is super frustrating. I switched from Sprint and got the Gnex, along with the "mute issue" where all of a sudden your microphone stops working during a call and you have to hang up. I've had the phone replaced and the replacement still does it so they offered me an "early upgrade" if I buy the S3 for $200.00. I did some research and found out about the no sim issue on the S3 so when I called back to tell them I didn't want an S3 they offered a RAZR M at $99.00 :/
I'm really considering breaking my contract with them to get a phone I like that works as it's supposed to.
Ya. This issue is really bugging me. I honestly believe there is a hiccup between the phone and the tower when a text is sent. I noticed at home that when I have wifi connected, and then send a text, the S3 will connect to 4G to send the message. At that point, something triggers in the phone and it loses connectivity with the SIM.
Not that this helps much... I explained it to level 2 support and they kept telling me how it was a new to them issue.

You're not kidding. I don't know if they REALLY don't know about these issues or they are just lying.
Tier 2 was who was helping me with the replacement phone and when I mentioned the No Sim error they said they had never heard of it and the only problem he's ever seen with an S3 is when a user doesn't turn off their old phone when activating a new phone :/

Ya, it amazes me that their "level 2" support still tries this excuse. Every time they try this with me, I ask them to tell me what the latest S3 software update addresses, and then the phone gets quiet, followed by excuses and them never hearing about it... even tho Verizon put out a patch to fix the issue.
Keep documenting it, tis the only way it's going to get addressed, or at the very least you will have ammo to get a new phone.

Have you tried the new HD modem for S3 yet?
Following guidance from the 2nd level tech after calling tech support, I stopped by the local verizon store today to pick up a new SIM. This is my third SIM, but she assured me there was a bad batch floating around the stores. We'll see... fingers crossed.

A friend of mine had the same issue, we both have the GS3 and live in the same area. She gets constant sim errors while I've never got one and I switch between 3G/4G frequently. She recieved a new sim a few weeks ago and hasn't had an error since. Seems a lot of sims are incorrectly configured with Verizon's network, just an educated guess.

I am amazed. 24 hours, not a single NO SIM error. Maybe I was un-lucky enough to get two bad SIMs the first time...

Still not a single no sim error. I am about 24 hours from saying it was a bad batch of SIM cards... never thought I would say that.

HTC One S - Loss of Signal

I recently bought this phone about 2 months ago.
Just got done checking several emails while on 4G. Put the phone down for a minute. Picked it up and lost all signal dealing with the mobile side. It works on WIFI but when it comes to sending texts, making calls or anything that deals with mobile it doesn't work. It says "No Signal Limited service Emergency Calls Only". It has been like this for the past hour and a half. I am currently located in Dallas, TX and I know that we are not going through any outages right now since I used my work phone to call my father's cell which is the same network as mine. If anyone has a clue what is going on, please state. Thank you very much!
It is running Android 4.0.4.
HTC Sense Version 4.1
Stock Rom.
In the NETWORK tab,
Operator Name: Unknown
Signal Strength: 0
Mobile Network Type: Unknown
Service State: Out of Service
Roaming: Not Roaming
I have tried removing the microSIM card and turned off my phone and left it off for about 15 mins. Nothing changed.
Tried changing it to airplane and leaving it for a bit and nothing changed.
Do you have the option to try this microSIM on a different unit, not yours?

I bought it off somebody from Craigslist about two months ago.
I don't think it can be blocked since this is a different microsim and number.

I went to a local T-Mobile store and they didn't know what was wrong either. Switched to a new sim and it still didn't get signal. Four different people took a look at it and no one knew what was wrong. They just ordered me a replacement phone and should be in a week. I just paid $20 for the shipping.
Now does T-mobile replace phones with refurbished phones or with new ones?

Hey guys,
[n00b question]
I didn't want to start a new post, and admittedly I haven't done a thorough search through the One S forums for this issue I'm having, so forgive the thread hijack. I recently acquired a One S (unlocked, unbranded, 'global' version) and after receiving it and placing the SIM in the device -same microSIM as from my SGSIII- the phone acts crazy. I go from bouncing from 3G to H and back several times a minute. I know that can't be right, because I do not have this issue on my SGSIII. Does anyone know what might be causing this?
Also, first time posting in this sub-forum, so please go lightly on me.
[/n00b question]
Thanks guys.

Thought I was the only one and that may SIM card was maybe broken but it seems it's an hardware bug or issue.
Eventhough the first 4 months I never experienced this issue but lately is happening as often as 1-2 per day. Using flightmode doesn't help, shutting down the phone neither only a restart temporarily fixes the issue till the next time. Really annoying since I use this phone when I'm on standby and so I need to check every few minutes to make sure I still got a network connection...

Even i change from GSM/WCDMA Auto to GSM only and back and picks up the Network but it doesn't let me connect..."Your SIM card doesn't allow connection to this network" Message... im giving up guys, any help??
