I just got my Charge in the mail today and went and activated it, but then realized it was a little to early. I had to switch back to my old phone (Fascinate) and do some updates and now I want to switch back.
When I switched back to the Fascinate it said that I had 90 days to re-activate the 4G phone on the existing SIM card, otherwise I would need a new one. Anyway, so far I haven't figure out how to re-activate. Anyone done this before? Verizon Customer Service is closed now otherwise I would call them up.
Thanks!
You have to get a new SIM card. It says you have 90 days, but the SIM is invalidated seconds after you switch from 4G to 3G. I've done this numerous times.

Wow, that really sucks. Do they "give out" the SIM cards in the store or is it something that has to be purchased? I am sure that I can get CS to get me another one for free, but that means I have to wait 2 more days.
Seems weird that they tell you that you have 90 days when you really don't.

Yeah, for whatever reason, VZW just won't activate the same SIM twice. I've only gotten them to give me a SIM in store once, and that was when they made a mistake and invalidated my SIM(they swapped the wrong phone to the wrong line). You can easily get another one for free on the website. Just go about the process of activating the Charge, and when it asks for a SIM, choose the option that you need a SIM. I buy them 5 at a time from a vendor on ebay =P
Mean Bro Greene is definitely wrong. Technical support -- that's the second tier of people you talk to, not the first, despite what the menu tree says -- reactivated my SIM card and 3G/4G service after I did the exact same thing (had to switch back to the Fascinate to update the firmware).
You just need to get your call escalated to technical support -- the first tier of support operators can't do it. The second tier can.
And you can actually reactivate the SIM for calls only without speaking to anyone, but you won't have data service until you call technical support. The automated number is (877) 807-4646.

Thanks. I called them this morning and all that they had to do was manually activate it and then I had to make a call (and he called me to verify as well). So I am back up and running.

One thing I learned about Verizon is if you don't like the answer you get once, keep calling back until you get the right answer for you. Yesterday I called to deactivate a line on our acct which had matured and no longer using. During the conversation she informed me that we could have switched the primary line to any other handset a long time ago. Last guy I talked to months ago told me I needed to wait until I could deactivate the line which was primary at the time. I could go on and on. Pretty much every scenario I have had to call about, I have gotten different answers each time. Its kinda sad.

I get the same thing, which is why I called twice about the SIM reactivation, two different people told me it was impossible. Then again, this was in March and LTE was relatively new.

When ED01 Froyo first released for the Fascinate it took days of calling to get someone to listen to me and do a DMU/ESN reset on their end. When I finally convinced them and it fixed it instantly(for the time being) I asked the guy to please make a memo so others would not go through hell.

That could definitely be part of it too. Verizon seems to be absolutely horrible at training their support employees about new policies and procedures. Heck, it sounds like the OP had an easier time than when I did it, and my call was only a couple of weeks ago...
should I activate my old Fassy? does it real matter?

I totally agree, and in all my years of hacking and swapping devices back and forth multiple times in a day I learned one thing. When you call VZW to get help for activation or data issues NEVER EVER talk to the person who answers the call. Always request to get transferred to a Tier 2 or Tier 3 tech support agent on the line. They at least know what is up as 90% of the others are clueless.

Yup, that's what I do. The thing I hate about Tier 1 with Verizon is EVERYTHING can be fixed with a "factory reset".
Even network issues apparently lol. I was having issues here in my work area a few months ago, and I refused to do a factory reset since I knew it was a tower issue as I'm familiar with RF Engineering, frequencies, etc. I finally got ahold of a T3, and got a network ticket put in, two days later, I have LTE again.
T1 is more customer support than anything.

Since doing the PRI/PRL update I have been unable to Roam. I contacted the EVO support people at sprint and they were able to reset the phone profile on their network. 5min phone call and removal and reinstall battery and confirmed fixed.
It took talking to several tech support reps and customer service people but the issue was finally able to be resolved at Sprint in the EVO tech support department.

Hope this helps to all having issues

You know, I called my dad in NJ this past weekend and had an issue where I was asked for a credit card to authorize on Verizon while walking past Macy's on 34th street. I was just about to post a message about this.
Thanks for the update.
I called the same number. They told me to go into a sprint store for a PRI update. I'm currently on 1.34, have tried countless times and can't get 1.40 yet.
idk that sprint stores can update PRI, not without resetting and updating your whole phone, and farking your root access up <not that its a huge deal with 2.2 root now>
I asked the tech i talked to the same question. She said they would not have to do a hard reset. She said they had a device to transfer it over. I guess ill call a few more times and try my luck with a few other people.
On the phone with the Tech guy now. I think he is scratching his head. He doesn't get it. When I roam I can't make a call. This has been an issue for me from DAY 1!!! Rooted or not.
Tell them that they need to check your server side profile and reset it. There is no hard reset required. It was a quick 5min fix. Seems like you just have to get the right tech..
James
^ I have the same issue, but it began when I started flashing king's kernels and the Ava Froyo ROM. Now I cant make or receive roaming calls at all.

That usually works, but like others have noticed, it depends on the tech you get.
I've had the problem a couple times, and it is NOT tied to any particular ROM/Kernal, just coincidence.
I've had the best luck asking for a higher level tech support right off. Sometimes they're nice and just go with it, and sometimes they insist that they can help, even when they can't.
Either way, the server profile reset is what is needed. The problem is on their end, not ours.
Had the same problem. Called tech support and they took my phone off the network and put it back on, on their side and that fixed mine 10 minutes
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Not only did they fix the problem with the roaming I now have my PRI updated!!! What the tech guy did was assign me a new MSID and the I did a reset on the phone and BAM, PRI is now at 1.40. Also as a side note... I no longer get the voice mail icon running CM6. I did a nand backup of my CM6, before calling Sprint. Loaded Fresh 3.2 (I'm a donor). Told the guy what problems I was having with roaming. He scratch his head for a while and said let's try a new MSID. All went perfect after I booted. Had the PRI update so I nand restored my CM6 and all is good.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Tried to resolve this this morning and was told there is no guarantee that I'll be able to get calls or data while I'm roaming and to pound sand. Need a different tech I guess?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I was told the same thing. Don't indicate to the tech that the error has to do w roaming, just say 'I keep getting this error wtf sprint'. They'll refresh the server profile and push it to your phone, that will fix the authentication error. Tech being lazy.

My wife and I were having the same issues including not being able to make calls or send txts while roaming. I had exhausted all other options so I decided to call sprint. The rep tried to tell me it was a tower outage and also that they don't support other towers. I was persistent and of course it worked! Just stand your ground. If you are on xda then you should have the answers to your problems at your fingers where the reps have no clue.
Swyped from my HTC Evo using XDA app.
Well, I'm still on the phone with Sprint, but the first rep had me walk through a number of steps that didn't fix the problem (duh), the second rep talked with me, then her supervisor, and was told that Sprint can't roam on Verizon's network! WTF, over?
EDIT
Spoke with the supervisor and was told unequivocally that Sprint phones will not now nor ever roam on Verizon. She offered to create me a CTMS ticket but told me it would be rejected out of hand, but that it'd give me the chance to speak with someone who is smarter than me (essentially - lol). I'm blown away at how hard it is to convince tech support agents that I know what I'm talking about.

Bull sh*t. It's a well-known fact that Sprint and Verizon have a mutual roaming agreement, just like AT&T and the other GSM carriers in the world do. If they didn't, their coverage maps would look more like tiny crumbs spread over the continental US, and that's it.
Possible progress. I spoke with the CTMS support person and she had me on the phone for a while - they're going to "reprogram" my phone, this evening (since at my office my signal is squidgy). I'll report back...

First you have to convince them some basic rules of the universe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt1w4iRNWLA
I just called in and the lady who picked up immediately issued a new MSID. I wont know until tomorrow if it repaired this issue on my phone because Im not currently roaming.
PRI didn't get updated. boo
Read this thread after I called sprint. Had the same issue with roaming and getting asked for a CC if I tried to make a call while roaming, and I am still on the old PRI. Data keeps going to 1x as well, we got 4g last week and it fixed most of the issues of getting slow speeds or no data, but today my phone has decided it just wont connect to 4g, tried many restarts, only got to work for a few minutes. So decided to call sprint today, honestly thought since it was reception related and mainly at my house that they would just send an airvave(sp?), but they did the reprogram phone, but it was with the same MSID, when i hit commit changes it said nothing had changed and did not restart, so he said just turn off the phone and i will let you know when to turn it back on. When it turned back on it just stayed on device configuration for more than 15mins. So he said it was a problem with the phone so actually just sent me a new (refurb) phone to fix the issue. Now that I see the root method for 2.2 hopefully this problem will not return since i should have the new pri out of the box.
FYI NEVER EVER EVER EVER do a ESN swap with a non 4g phone, then try to reactivate the TBOLT, it will kill your sim card. I was having problems with losing 3g and crappy signal on my thunderbolt, so i decided to do a esn swap to see if that would help it, as it did on my fascinate. Well everything went smooth with swapping to my old rogue, but then came the problem. I tried to reactivate my tbolt and it said I had to enter my SIM info, well I did and it said it cannot at this time, blah blah. I called customer service and basically she told me that if you swap from a 4g phone to a 3g phone back to a 4g phone it retires your sim card and its essential rendered useless from that point on. So now tomorrow bright and early I need to get up to go to verizon and get a new sim card. Don't make the same mistake that I did.
Jesse
Call in to do the swap instead of self serve and they should be able to do it without retiring the sim
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App
well its too late, and now i need to get a new one tom..blahh
Thx for advice. Live and learn I guess. Happens daily
Because 3g devices require tying the MDN/MEID to your acct, vs a 4g device tying the SIM Card to your account, it is a security feature that if you remove the Sim, it will theoretically retire the Sim within 24 hours. Sometimes it can retire quicker than that, but avoiding the switch if possible is ideal...
This is not the appropriate forum for this. Nothing to do with dev at all.

Same thing happened to one of the phones on my account, except we called in to have the 4G > 3G swap done. The SIM card was "retired"
Now I see it could have been fixed, what a pain VZW can make something simple...

Actually, tech support CAN re-enter that SIM into the system... provided you're going to re-use against the same phone number...
I know, because I did this about a month ago... I switched from my TB back to my INC for an hour or two... Tried to switch back via web site.. got error about the SIM, called, CS couldn't help and was clueless, she got Tech Support on, and they re-entered my SIM into the system and my TB was up and running.
Funny... when switching to the INC via the web, it said the sim would become deactivated in 90 days... it was deactivated in under an hour.
I thought changing a phones esn was illegal? How does Verizon let you change a phones esn

It is. But what they are talking about is just changing phones on a line of service. But if you tried to change the ESN ON the device, then you would be breaking the law.

Oh OK gotcha
I recently received my G2x back from LG for a faulty sim card reader and now it is still saying "invalid sim" with "MY" simple mobile sim. Now the crazy part is I used a simple mobile sim from a friend and it read it for a good 5 minutes allowed me to make a call and then it said invalid sim again.
When I called T-mobile they stated to me that apparently the phone was purchased on an installment plan and was never payed off and it is permanently blocked on the tmobile network. But as I mentioned before it allowed me to make a couple calls in a span of 5 minutes or so on the simple mobile network. So how can it make calls if it is blocked on the network?
So what can I do to make this work on the Simple Mobile network because it worked for a matter of 5 minutes before it went back to saying invalid sim card.
Would rooting the phone go and circumvent all that and allow me to use???
Please can someone help me figure this out cause everything on the phone works but I cannot seem to access the simple mobile network.

Sure based on what you stated. Pay T-Mobile for the phone and lift the restriction.
You need an unlock code. Pm jboxer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1710971
The phone is already unlocked.....I spoke to tmobile and they are telling me the phone is "EIP" and the apparently the person who owned the phone cancelled the account and never paid the phone in full they told me that the phone would be able to work if I opened a new account I went into a tmobile store today and attempted to do that and it did not work what so ever.... This has turned into a giant mess and I basically have a paperweight as a phone because no one at the tmobile corp seems to be able to help whatsoever... I've even inquired about speaking to a manager and the reps tell me the supervisor will have to call me back and still I have yet to receive a phone call. Mind you I've been a loyal customer prior for over 5 years and never was late with payments. It truly bothers me as a consumer that something simple like this cannot be resolved and to make matters even worse that no one can give me a solid answer and just a guess and a brush off. I apologize for the rant, but this has got to stop these large cell phone companies treat customers like blind stupid sheep.

This is getting confusing. This is not what you stated in your original post.
"I recently received my G2x back from LG for a faulty sim card reader". "When I called T-mobile they stated to me that apparently the phone was purchased on an installment plan and was never payed off and it is permanently blocked." Now if it is a phone received back from LG how did someone else come involved. Pay the balance due on the phone and lift the restriction. Or contact who you purchased the phone from for help.
Okay let me clarify when I first received the phone it stated on the phone "Invalid Sim Card" so everyone I got in contact with told me to send in the phone to LG for repair for having a faulty sim card reader.
I did this and received the phone back and documentation from LG stating that they fixed the sim card reader and that it was fully functioning with a tmobile sim card.
Now when I inserted my sim card from simple mobile it was still reading "invalid sim card" so I contacted Tmobile and they stated to me doing some research that the account was being blocked due to the device being purchased on an installment plan or "EIP" as they call it and never being paid off in full.
So I asked them what can I do as far as lifting the restriction off the account and removing the IMEI block so the phone will function.. And they told me I could do nothing because the phone is listed under another persons account and they have to pay it off before the block will come off...
So, my question is what can I do am actually stuck with a paperweight... Cause this was bought for me as a gift from craigslist... Can rooting the phone bypass or can I use this on another network other than tmobile/simple mobile???

If it is blocked using the IMEI number there is nothing that you can do to get around it, unless you can get in contact with the original owner. I have found Craglist is not the best place to purchase electronics for this very reason. Wish I had better news for you. Sorry.
Did you call LG and report the problem? It sounds like they didn't fix anything. If the phone quits reading the SIM after 5 minutes that could be a short circuit.
I do agree with others who say you won't be able to use the phone with T-mobile again. The guy on Craigslist screwed you on that. But you should be able to use it with Simple Mobile with no problem.
One thing: try and find a friend who has an AT&T phone. Put his sim card in your phone and see what happens. (You could even go to an AT&T store and tell them you want an account but only if your phone works, so you need to test a Sim card in it first. See if they'll let you test one.)
I PM'd you with a bunch of troubleshooting steps for Simple Mobile. However, you really need to talk to both LG and Simple Mobile customer service to get their opinion on what is going on.

Doesn't Simple Mobile run off of TMobile? I'm not in the US but that was my assumption. If so, the IMEI is blocked with both carriers.
I would recomend staying away from custom kernels. Some swear by them, but it adds another variable when trouble shooting. If the phone is operating correctly (no defective hardware) and you follow the instructions many of the Rom's available should eliminate your issue. I do not recomend to batch reinstall your apps from TI. One at a time and test. Trouble shooting is a pain but you should be able to get beyond your current issue if your phone is not defective. We are seeing the second and third round of defective phones being sold to others as working phone. Same small number of phones passed off to some poor guy. Unfortunate but true.
Alright not too long ago, I called verizon to notify them about my travels to Japan, 2 weeks prior my trip (i got back less than 24 hours ago). They did some over the phone stuff, added that 100mb plan. And told me to dial *228, I've been warned about dialing *228 on 4G phones before... But this is a Verizon REP telling me this. So i did it, and i was supposed to dial it again when i reached Japan, to update my roaming with their cell towers.
I did so as well... thought little did i know the message i got when i was in japan said my phone did not work over there (didn't know it at the time had my friend translate the message for me days after i already dialed)
Long story short, I've noticed after my initial dial of *228, I somewhat noticed my phone never connected to 4G again. It bugged me, but i was still able to FORCE LTE Only in Phone Info. But when i had that setting in, i couldnt recieve or send calls, or texts... just blazing fast internet.
In my area since I live relatively close to Los Angeles 4G is pretty much everywhere here. What i dont understand why my phone hasn't connected to 4G ever since i called.

I'd pull the sim, reinsert and reboot. You may need to reactivate. Sounds like the rep you talked to was a complete waste of space.

I've tried a SIM pull, no luck. I read somewhere dialing *228 could fry to SIM card? Maybe thats what happened, and i'd need to get a replacement...
What do you mean by re-activate?
I've done factory resets quite a few times already today, as well as the IMEI push/fix just in case... still to no luck

There's another command using the keypad you can use to factory reset your phone...i just can't remember it. Something like *#4342..etc. I remember seeing it posted on here somewhere but I would search for "factory reset" and see what you can come up with.
This is what people did when they flashed an AOSP rom and were unable to get 4G...it could likely work for you also. It's worth a shot!
Here is the thread and the command: Back up all your info because your phone will be wiped and make sure you are on a stock based TouchWiz rom...go into dialer and hit *2767*3855#. Allow it to reboot and hopefully you will have full use of your phone. If not, go and get yourself a new sim card at the local VZW.

Tried that twice during the IMEI push. Still to no avail. I'm going to assume the SIM card got bugged during the *228 process... And would probably need a new simcard. My dad also has the S3, and his connects to 4g just fine in my area... THe things i go through with this phone man... I prefer my bionic if the galaxy's camera wasnt so good.
Sorry about the phone woes but once you're up and running again you will see how this device runs circles around your Bionic.
Getting a new SIM card is easy. Verizon gives them away for free and you can just walk in there. Hopefully you get this taken care of.

Got a new SIM card from the Vz store, fixed my problems, got 4G connectivity back...
Mods can close this.
Upon returning home from a business trip, the dreaded NO SIM error started creeping up on my phone again. 2.5 weeks in Salt Lake City, no issue. Back in TN, horrid NO SIM errors abound. I called Verizon tech support today, and he noticed I already exchanged the phone for a new one, along with a new SIM. One thing he mentioned, it looked like I was "roaming" in the system, so he reset some routers (his words) after having me pull the battery and wait a couple of minutes before powering the S3 back up. Sure enough, on the drive home from work, the phone had a NO SIM issue... so I unplugged the battery for the rest of the drive home. Once inside, I plugged the battery back into the phone, everything looked hunky dory, so I went about my business... and sure as s***, the phone gave me another NO SIM. So I contacted Verizon again, and she offered me any Android phone as a replacement. Now, I don't know if you guys have looked at the current line up for Verizon's Android based smartphones, but it's basically the Moto Razr or the Samsung Galaxy S3. I have not found a case that I absolutely love, so I have invested in quite a few so far, plus additional charging cradles, car mounts, etc... frustrating because I love this phone, but I use it for work, so I can't deal with this issue much longer.
If you had to select another phone to replace it, what would you go with? The new RAZR M? (lose NFC, smaller and crappier screen, etc) The RAZR Maxx?
Thanks, in advance.
No other phone on Verizon can touch the S3. Only phone that can be comparable is something that is not out yet.
Then when it comes out, they will tell you it is to new.

Might hold out for the Note 2. Testing something currently... wondering if Go SMS is the issue, seeing as the problem seems to creep up with some sort of combination of texting and calls. Will update tomorrow.
Did you apply the latest update? It should have updated automatically OTA, unless you are running custom unlocked rooted whatever ROM. In that case go to dev section and download latest radio and flash it. Should fix that damn no SIM problem.

Yep, already flashed last week. Tech Support told me tonight they have been fielding calls post patch showing it didn't fix the issue. If they are offering me any android of my choice, they are probably as flustered as I am. Almost went to a Rezound, a step backwards, I know, but I am at wit's end. Will see how the next week goes.
Sorry to hear. Try and hold out for a fix. I came from a rezound, and while I loved my HTC phones, this s3 is great. Too different to compare.

A fix is being pushed out today to address this issue. S3 is bar far the best phone you will find out there...
do you have a source about that?
Verizon is super frustrating. I switched from Sprint and got the Gnex, along with the "mute issue" where all of a sudden your microphone stops working during a call and you have to hang up. I've had the phone replaced and the replacement still does it so they offered me an "early upgrade" if I buy the S3 for $200.00. I did some research and found out about the no sim issue on the S3 so when I called back to tell them I didn't want an S3 they offered a RAZR M at $99.00 :/
I'm really considering breaking my contract with them to get a phone I like that works as it's supposed to.
Ya. This issue is really bugging me. I honestly believe there is a hiccup between the phone and the tower when a text is sent. I noticed at home that when I have wifi connected, and then send a text, the S3 will connect to 4G to send the message. At that point, something triggers in the phone and it loses connectivity with the SIM.
Not that this helps much... I explained it to level 2 support and they kept telling me how it was a new to them issue.

Droid M is somewhat close. I'd stay with it or wait for the Razr HD

Hmm, I'll check it out. The M seems a downgrade at this point.

You're not kidding. I don't know if they REALLY don't know about these issues or they are just lying.
Tier 2 was who was helping me with the replacement phone and when I mentioned the No Sim error they said they had never heard of it and the only problem he's ever seen with an S3 is when a user doesn't turn off their old phone when activating a new phone :/

Ya, it amazes me that their "level 2" support still tries this excuse. Every time they try this with me, I ask them to tell me what the latest S3 software update addresses, and then the phone gets quiet, followed by excuses and them never hearing about it... even tho Verizon put out a patch to fix the issue.
Keep documenting it, tis the only way it's going to get addressed, or at the very least you will have ammo to get a new phone.

Have you tried the new HD modem for S3 yet?
Following guidance from the 2nd level tech after calling tech support, I stopped by the local verizon store today to pick up a new SIM. This is my third SIM, but she assured me there was a bad batch floating around the stores. We'll see... fingers crossed.

A friend of mine had the same issue, we both have the GS3 and live in the same area. She gets constant sim errors while I've never got one and I switch between 3G/4G frequently. She recieved a new sim a few weeks ago and hasn't had an error since. Seems a lot of sims are incorrectly configured with Verizon's network, just an educated guess.

I am amazed. 24 hours, not a single NO SIM error. Maybe I was un-lucky enough to get two bad SIMs the first time...

Still not a single no sim error. I am about 24 hours from saying it was a bad batch of SIM cards... never thought I would say that.
