[Q] Android based car navigation -> external touchscreen 400x240 - possible? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hello,
I hope I am in good part of the forum - I have a question to Android geeks -> I have an idea on the project (which in case of WinCE based navi units is explored - but not in Android based ones) - to put an Android based tabled with GPS or GPS navigation unit as a navi unit in my VW RCD510 device... My first question is -> is there a possibility to connect external screen with touch-screen which will be different resolution than the native one on the Android based unit... In particular - the RCD510 unit has a screen resolution (with touch) of: 400x240 pix (6,5") screen...
Is there a possibility to connect that to the tablet or navi unit with Android and to use that screen to controll (completely) the unit??
The main screen of the unit may be not used - it does not make me difference - I only ask about such thing, as I am not really good in Android...
Just one more thing - I do not think about "on-the-go" - it may be some dismounting etc stuff - just to make it work (if possible at all)...
I will appreciate your help...

[Q] Question Regarding Custom Hardware building for a Hardware project

Hi,
I am not sure how to ask this question yet i scribble a few words. Kindly ask questions if you are not clear. Thanks in advance.
We are doing a custom device for a industrial project. The project involves maintaining stock and functioning of electronic products using the USB API. The USB device(Our Product) and the android phone will be placed and provided to the end-user in an assembly. The end user sees the whole thing as a PDA/Device for use in industry.
I need suggestions for the following:
- The android Phone which we use must contain the following according to the Devs.
Android Version 2.2 or Higher.
Android Gingerbread 2.3 or higher is preferred.
- Touch Screen (Resistive or capacitive)
- Resolution 320 X 480 Pixels (Minimum)
- Screen-size 3 -4 Inches
- GPS or aGPS
- G-Sensor
- WiFi (any b/g/n or all)
- Internal Memory 512MB or higher
- RAM 384 MB or higher
- Processor 500 MHz or higher
- Battery 5 hrs or more usage time
- Partially assembled units with Display, Battery and Board.
- the outer case is not required (Optional)
- Bluetooth, GSM.. etc are necessarily required but if present can be used for any future projects.
Is there any board/ assembly unit or may be a mobile phone without the fancy housing or casing which we can buy for our project?
The BeagleBoard and AllGo boards already have android support but are on the expensive side.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Mods kindly help me to make this questions little more clear to the respected community.
Thank you.

Need to find 7" Android tablet for control panel application

I'm looking for a 7" tablet I can house in a custom box which will control some hardware over bluetooth/WiFi. I hear about Chinese supplies and if I can find one which meets these needs I will be interested. Ideally, I'd like on which
- Is reliable
- Is Flashable with AOSP Android 5+
- Boots up when power is applied
- Allows the boot up logo to be customised
Generally, if I got one of the many I see on eBay/Alibaba as a test, is it easy to install a custom ROM from a general process or are they all different? Does anyone have experience of using a specific model I can try please?

Can a Chinese/Yessun head unit running WINCE6.0 update software

Hello, I have had a look around and so far no real clear answer but a about 6 months ago I had installed in my car a Yessun brand (chinese) 7" headunit. All works reasonably well however it lags so much I will select a song and it will take sometimes about 5 or 6 seconds to select and play. Additionally when playing music from my phone (spotify or the device itself) the metadata doesn't show on the head unit. My question is, is there a way the software (and/or firmware if it meant I can have the bluetooth metadata shared on the head unit) can be updated? Not necessarily by me as I am useless at that stuff but I'd be happy to approach a professional if there was a way this could be done. I just wouldn't even know where to begin to ask or look for someone so the online community is my only choice - thanks in advance
Some info from the website about the head unit:
Operating system - WINCE6.0
Frequency - Cortex-A7
Main chip model - MSB2531
Memory - DDR3-128MHZ
Storage Space - NAND FLASH SLC 256MHZ
SD interface support protocol - SD Memory Card Spec(ver2.0)/MMC Memory card Spec(4.3) Compatible
Navigation software storage - SD card (it has iGO instsalled)
Type of software compilation - ARMV4I / Interface parameter
Communication interface - I2C/SPI/UART/SD
Audio interface - Analog stereo input \ output
Other interface - Common IO/AD/PWM
Do you mean that you wanna to update the WinCE 6.0 or something else?
As far as I know, the latest version for WinCE is Ver. 6.1, which I don't think will lead to a performance improvement for your device.
So, maybe we should seek some approach else.

Build a Head Unit - Galaxy Note PRo 12.2

Hi,
I have this tablet laying around, and was planning to build a head unit with it.
Few questions I have:
- 4 channel audio (I know I can use usb audio card... but that does not really mirror 2 channels to other 2 channels - suppose a 5.1 card) control pan/balance
- create custom task bar to switch between apps and do AC control etc... with fixed task bar
I have done some Android programming, but I think these 2 requests can't be done with app only...and probably need core change, right?
I know lot of Chinese ROM for Headunits have it... so not sure the complexity of building a custom ROM
Thanks
Nuno
I would love to see a wiring diagram and features list for this. It does not even sound like you need android. Wouldn't Linux be a better choice?
Well, I want to run some apps existing in Android format only, like maps, torque pro, waze, or even do a android auto.

Question Android auto looks different. Is it normal?

hello.

The android auto is different. I cant use maps and music at the same window. I attached a video to show you how it looks. No Split-Screen design for some reason. Maybe its related to android 10?
my questions are:
1. How can I make android auto to work regular? As I see in the pictures in the play store?
2. How can I force android auto to work on full screen mode?
3. Is there an update to android 11/12/13 for my machine? Im running android 10. Moreover, I can not find the check for updates options
any ideas? also attached the version of the machine
thanks
1) Android Auto currently does not support split-screen, only at very few top-market builtin AA screens. So certainly not on these units using a reverse-engineered CarLink apk. Android Auto is kept simple to keep it as safe as possible.
2) You can't. Android auto copies your screen to the head unit (or car builtin in screen). It will be more or less your phone screen. That works nicely on a normal 8" - 13.3" landscape unit, but not on a Tesla style vertical screen. (And why use AA??? You have such a nice screen on a fully functional Android unit)
3) There is no Android 11/12/13 for your unit. If you see Android 11/12/13 units for the FYT7862, then they are fakes.
Please first read post # of this thread. Based on your question 3) you did not much reading yet. That is what this forum is for. Learning, not only asking.
Last summer Google announced that they are working on a new AA, together with Google Assistant, for many type of screens (as more cars get Tesla style screens) and for split-screen. I have no idea when that gets released and whether the FYT CarLink.apk will support it.

As far as I know: not yet.
As far as I know that is currently only available on a very selected set of built-in car units that support AA.
For my work I also regularly drive rental cars and all cars do have AA builtin (as they are never older than 1 year), but none so far with split-screen.
And please don't use webp images. The forum can't show them so I first need to download them. I don't want that.

Ok. Thank you.
and last question-
When I hear music via Bluetooth, it works when I only enter a specific screen . Is there a way to make it work when I leave the specific screen or application?

Via AA, or directly and only connected via Bluetooth?
If you simply have your phone connected and play music on your unit in the Music Player via BT, it should simply work.
For AA via CarLink I don't know. On my unit I never, ever use AA: what a waste of such an expensive unit with such great funtionality to use it as an AA unit. There are special AA /CarPlay Android units below 100 euros for sale on Amazon and AliExpress, and these do it wirelessly as well.
I only use AA in rental cars.

UP
The App on the head unit is a hacked app written by the Chinese so they do not have to pay any royalties/licencing fees. Android Auto is written only for supported Head Units using unhacked software where the maker pays the correct fee.
So every change on the Official Android Auto app does not consider what effect it has on a hacked app, so if it stops working you are reliant on the Chinese hackers fixing the hacked app. Hence no reply to your request and why I do not use Android Auto on these units.
